Beer League Belles #1

At the Edge with You

Rate this book
I never thought I’d see her again.

Fable Winthrop was my only partner on the ice. I’d been the hockey player turned figure skater overnight, and she was the prim, proper ice princess who didn’t take my crap.
I did everything to make her smile, I worked hard to get her the gold, and I loved every moment of it. Even though her parents warned me to stay away from her, I fell desperately in love with her. Since I couldn’t have her the way I wanted, I made her my best friend, the girl who knew me better than anyone, in the hope that, after it was all over, we could choose each other.

But after winning the gold, her parents pulled us apart.

I chose the rough, fast world of hockey. She stayed in figure skating, not only winning two more golds, but carving out a name for herself as one of the best coaches in the sport.

Now, twenty years later, she’s back. And after a letter from the grave, she is the co-owner of my rink.
The rink was supposed to be mine, and now, she’s not only in my space, she’s in my head. We have to work together like we did all those years ago, but so much has changed. Not only are we older, but the past weighs heavy on both our hearts. While Fable still reminds me of the girl I remember, she’s a woman now.
And she’s still in my heart.

When the chance comes to skate with her again, I jump onto my blades faster than I could say yes. I don’t just want a second chance at skating; I want a second chance with her.

But Fable has spent years building walls around her heart, and our past continues to chase me. We were unstoppable once—two kids who could conquer the ice together. Now, I have to prove to her that we still can.

At the Edge with You is a story of second chances, redemption, and learning that, sometimes, the biggest risks aren’t taken on the ice—but in love.

I love a sweet second-chance romance, and Fable and Jett’s was a good one. Hockey romance is my fave, and this one was different than your typical college or professional athlete story. I especially liked Fable’s relationship with her grandma, Kitty. It was the sweetest.

I’m a huge hockey fan and it’s playoff season so this was a no brainer to read! Ice skating gold medalist Fable was diagnosed in her mid thirties as neurodivergent. When her grandfather dies, she returns to her Tennessee mountain hometown after living away for nearly two decades for his funeral. When she’s required by the terms of his will to stay on at his ice rink for no less than one year, she must also work with her former pairs partner and beer league hockey god who’s the only man who makes her libido stand up and take notice.

After a devastating on ice injury in his junior year of college, Jett moved home to rehabilitate and was mentored by Fable’s grandfather to learn the ropes at the ice rink, and it was assumed he’d inherit the business when the older man passed on. Working with Fable was a wrinkle he never saw coming, but while they butt heads over the day to day management of the rink, their attraction to each other is undeniable.

Meddling family members both for and against a union between Fable and Jett promise to make the year fulfillment a trial.

I loved the main characters, and was very much impressed with the respectful and enlightening portrayal of the manifestations of Fable’s particular diagnoses, but I truly disliked the cartoon villain-esque depictions of Fable’s manipulating and grasping parents. A woman of nearly forty should have a great deal more agency than she perceived herself to have, and a lot of the machinations could’ve been thwarted if Fable had just consulted with Kitty (her grandmother) on a few issues. I understand plot devices but this was a whole other level of repugnant parental actions.

I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from Booksirens, and I’m leaving my honest review.

Took them long enough

OVERALL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐ It Was Okay

This is my first Toni Aleo read, and I would say the book made me laugh and tear up a bit, but it didn't offer me anything new or exciting. Some books stay with you after you read them, while there are books that you enjoy but immediately forget, and this book is solidly in the latter category for me.

It's a mix of tropes we've already seen before. The MCs being forced into an arrangement because of a dead person's will, the parents paying off/warning one of the MCs to get away from the other, one or both MCs not falling in love with anyone else in their life except for the other MC, one or both MCs with parent issues... these are nothing new.

WHAT I LOVED 💕

💜 As a grandma's girl, I loved the grandma-granddaughter relationship between Kitty and Fable.
💜 Jett was the calm to Fable's storm.
💜 Fable stood up for herself against her parents.
💜 Jett's possessiveness.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME 😞

💜 Took me so long to warm up to Jett because of how fixated he was on women's bodies. I didn't get his constant need to describe her body as stick or bones (when they were younger) or thick (present).

She also coaches a lot, so she’s in shape, even if she isn’t the stick she used to be. Now she has thighs meant to suffocate me, hips meant to be handlebars as I pound into her, and a belly that I want to nuzzle. And those titties… There aren’t enough days in this lifetime for me to get my fill.

All those times I had her hips in my hands when we were younger, I held bone, but that’s not the case anymore. No, her heated flesh feels like a buttery roll I want to devour in one bite.

He even thought something similar about a childhood friend.

She’s on the thicker side, and I mean, if I worked in a bakery, I would be too.

💜 Too cheesy for me.
💜 I didn't get the point in The Belles' POV.
💜 I'm not happy with the reasons for the 20-year separation.

DID I LAUGH? Yes, a few times.

DID I CRY? Teared up, yes.

SWOON SCORE: 🦋🦋🦋 Cute Enough to Keep

Jett was an amazing support for Fable mentally, emotionally, and physically. He soothed the turmoil inside her. She thought that maybe something was wrong with her because her parents only ever saw her faults, and she couldn't enjoy sex with other guys, but Jett proved her wrong. He was attuned to her needs and gave her plenty of reassurances.

My thoughts never really stop, but in his arms, I can just be without them taking over.

Jett presses a soft kiss to the crown of my head, and then against my hair, he whispers, “I’ve got you.”

Excuse me while I cry and sing "When Will It Be Me" over here.

SPICE LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Hot and Explicit

Jett was obsessed with Fable's body. There were a few spicy, explicit scenes when they finally got together. No kinks though.

DO I RECOMMEND THIS? Yes. I think other readers may find this book enjoyable or even love it, so I think it's worth it for them to give it a chance.

When this series was announced, I couldn’t wait to start it. “At the Edge with You” is an emotional, swoony and romantic second chance hockey romance that was a great start to this new series.

I loved that Fable and Jett were former ice skating partners and had a history from twenty years ago. Fable is so relatable with her anxiety and how she is with relationships. Even with therapy, she always had this barrier she couldn’t quite get past. And being forced to come back to her small town was the push she needed. Although she had been mostly happy there, seeing Jett again was tough for her. Jett is a swoony, tattooed man who was invested in the local rink and was expecting it to be left to him when the owner, Fable’s grandfather, passed away. But he was a sneaky man even after death, and wanted these two back together. I loved how Belles were the grandmothers watching over to make sure they found their way back to each other. Fable and Jett had a deep history and once they got past that, I loved the teasing of when they would give into their feelings for each other. And when they did, Jett was so patient and really listened to Fable, so many green flags with that man. They face some challenges but they work on it together. I love that Fable and Jett were older, in their late thirties, and had gone through life issues before finding each other again. Even though it took twenty years, these were meant to be and I loved their story. The ending was so romantic and I can’t wait to for the next book in the series.

At the Edge with You is such an emotional, sweet love story between former Gold Medal winning skating pairs Fable and Jett. As teens, they were just friends, just partners, who both secretly felt something for each other. After they won gold, Fable moved to a different state and became a singles skater and Jett went to college and played hockey before hurting his knee. He came back to their hometown to help run the local skating rink owned by Fable’s grandfather. 20 years later, Fable returns home after her grandfather passes away and finds out that she has to run the skating rink with Jett for a year, even though he was supposed to inherit it by himself. I really enjoyed this story. The author is so good at writing characters with mental health issues, neurodivergence, abusive home life, medical issues, etc that it makes the characters lives emotional and relatable. Fable was such a special woman who is unapologetically herself and was diagnosed later in life. I loved Jett. He was the perfect hero and the perfect partner in life for Fable. He loves her for herself, quirks and all. So much more happens in this story that I don’t want to ruin, but I definitely recommend this story to all. It’s the first in a new series and I can’t wait to read more!

A good start to a new hockey romance series from a woman who knows how to pull all the heartstrings. It's also just what I need since my team didn't make the playoffs.

Fable is a former skating gold medalist in her late 30s who's come home for her grandfather's funeral and now has to stay for a year to run his beloved skating rink. Not so bad - except that her parents are also in town and her relationship with them is fraught with drama AND there's her former doubles partner Jett who left skating for hockey after they had won their first gold medal. So you know from the beginning that there's going to be a lot of tension between Fable and Jett and yes, there's a lot of spice as well. But with Ms Aleo there's always more. This time, Fable is neurodivergent. With her domineering parents and staying to run the rink alongside Jett, her mental issues complicate things. Jett takes the time to make her feel safe. He is patient and calm and a good foil to Fable. My only compliant was how much influence her parents exerted on Fable - she's almost 40 years old and still allows them to manipulate her. I just think that, even with her mental issues, she took too long to confront their actions. I am definitely looking forward to more from the Beer League Belles.

Quote I liked:

The words burn through me like a wildfire, and I don't want to put out the flames.

It's been a hot minute since I've read a book from this author. This one truly is captivating.
A super cute, incredibly heartwarming and devastating story of two people who were thrust apart by people that should have known better.
Jett and Fable skated together as kids, even making the Olympics. But that didn't mean the boy from the wrong side of the tracks could be with the ice princess and pursue their dreams into the future.
Many years later they are brought back together by a death in Fables family. With Jett helping her grandfather out all these years at the family area, he is certain things will go off course when she arrives for his funeral.
The ups and downs of this couple will break your heart and make you shed some tears. To imagine what lengths family would go to to tear two people apart. It's crushing.
There are many wonderful, hilarious, sweet characters in this story. The Belles are absolutely hilarious!
The story is addictive and I just want more of Jett, Fable and the Belles.
5 stars. I'm so glad I got the chance to read this book!

First, let’s celebrate that this is the seventieth book published by this author! Ms. Aleo is a storyteller, and this latest is a great one. I fell into Jett and Fable’s story, and could not put it down.

As youth, they were on skates, he with hockey and she a figure skater. But let's back up a little, because this is what makes the story special. Fable is on the spectrum, and the author does a fabulous job of getting into Fable's head and sharing her thoughts, feelings, and frustrations. As teens, they skate as pairs and win gold.

Years pass and Fable returns to her small town in Tennessee mountains for her grandfather’s funeral. As secrets are uncovered, will the will contingencies be matched, can the two find the magic again?
This is the first in a new series, and I am excited for more.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Do you love a hockey player turned figure skater? Do you love mature characters? Did you once watch the Cutting Edge and obsess over that movie? If you said yes, yes and absolutely yes than this book is for you. Toni Aleo has a new series and the first book is fantastic.

This story will give you all the emotion. The anger. I had so much of it for Fable's parents, two people that should not be parents. The swoon. Jett is sexy and sweet and has a heart of gold. The romance. Jett and Fable’s love story spans twenty plus years and they still have that connection. The happiness. These two deserve their happily ever after and it was so worth all the tears and sadness to find the other piece of their heart.

Toni brought back so many good memories from when I was younger. This is definitely a feel good story that will warm your heart, spice you up and give you all the romance vibes.

I have read some amazing books in my life. Some stick with you for a moment to a while, this one is gnawing at my heart and I think it will stick with me for a while. Toni has given so much depth to Fable and he struggles with many years of abuse, emotional damage, and inner monologue that tears her down. Enter Jett and his she's always been my world and no one's going to stop us this time mentality and you have me cheering in the bleachers for the home team. BTW, I don't know who I hate more Elli's mom and sister or Fable's parents. Discuss..

If you are looking for a second chance that should have always been a first chance, I cannot recommend this book more. I have all the feels and they are blossoming. 👨‍🍳💋

📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚

Should’ve always been together?

In the first book in a new series The Beer League Belles we get introduced to the Belles and their grandchildren Jett and Fable. I’m going to start by saying I’ve struggled deeply with the Belles in this series not because they aren’t fun and quirky but because they ALL knowing let their grandchildren suffer for decades and did nothing about until tragedy struck. If I’m honest two weeks after finishing the book I still am. So I’m going to say I loved Fable and Jett and how incredibly dedicated to each other they are and likely always would’ve been if not for outside influence’s. The way he loves her and puts her first and only sees her not her LABLES. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb: I never thought I’d see her again.

Fable Winthrop was my only partner on the ice. I’d been the hockey player turned figure skater overnight, and she was the prim, proper ice princess who didn’t take my crap. This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in single POV this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

Fable, a competitive figure skater, and Jett, an ice hockey player with his eye on the NHL, were brought together as teens to train, and then compete, in figure skating in the Olympics.
During their time together, they formed a bond - becoming best friends and developing feelings for each other - but Fable’s parents considered Jett waayyy beneath their class and were determined to rip them apart as soon as the Olympics were done.
Fast forward 20 years and the death of Fable’s grandfather has brought her back to her hometown to be there for her grandmother. She has stayed away to avoid her parents, who have never understood or accepted her as she is, and spent her time coaching and working on her mental health, looking for answers and desperate to just be able to feel ‘normal’. Jett made it to the NHL but a knee injury cut that career short and he ended up back home, working at Fable’s grandfather’s rink, playing in the beer league and looking after his ‘girls’ - his mom, grandmother and great grandmother; otherwise known as The Belles.
A twist in her grandfather’s will forces Fable to commit to staying home for one year - working at the rink with Jett - or she will lose her inheritance and Jett will lose the rink that was promised to him! With the close proximity, it does not take long for the combustible heat between Jett and Fable to ignite but will it have the opportunity to develop into something more this time or will Fable run when the year is up?!
With her usual flair for sass, drama and an all consuming love story; Toni gives us another amazing book that made me laugh, tear up, swoon and get a little flustered! 🤭🔥 Jett is the perfect man for Fable - he calms her internal storm, he makes her feel all the feels, he thoroughly loves her as she is and he is exactly the dirty talking, hot and sexy lover she needs! Fable is all the woman Jett could ever need or want - she’s sassy, she’s a hot mess sometimes and she’s the only girl he’s ever loved. To finally get their HEA together, Fable and Jett have to overcome the damage done by her parents and grandfather 20 years ago and find out if what they feel is real and lasting. Their journey is helped along by the hilarious, and at most times inappropriate, Belles who are desperate to see Fable and Jett find love with each other.
Toni Aleo has once again delivered a book that you can’t help but devour, hoping it never ends and leaving you wanting more - more of the beautiful couple, more of the hilarious antics of the Belles and more of the sexy antics too! 😉 I can’t wait to read more of this series, loving the direction Toni has taken with the later in life MC’s and the beer league hockey world!

SOUL CRUSHINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!

This was one of the fastest 5 star ratings I have ever given. This book was so many things! Emotionally driven at the forefront of it all! It was written with the intensity of someone speaking from their heart. Toni poured her soul wrenching experience combined with an understanding and depth of the complexities of mental health diagnosis and how it weighs on those who are struggling. I loved how labels didn’t matter and love surpassed it all in so many generations and contexts!!
After a significant mental health crisis, my daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and other mental health struggles in her senior year of high school. It changed her life! Reading how Fable struggled really hit home as we still at times live these very real emotions. Fable never backed down from who she was and her strength fueled by Jett’s determination to love her just as she is was something to behold. My heart split into a million pieces but my soul mended each one because of the depth of feelings this story emulated.
Fable and Jett are true love personified! Recognizing just how important it is to understand and love one another for who they are. Even though family is important it is not everything if they don’t love you as you are. No one should be judged or decision made because of status ever! Jett was such a comfort for Fable and knew what she need to feel the way she needed to. He was the strength that supported her strength and courage. These characters where made for each other. Let’s not forget Kitty and the Belles who brought just the right amount of life experience and humour that fit absolutely perfect in this story!
Toni you have given a story I will never forget and will sit in my soul for always. thank you for honouring these characters and their emotions so respectfully and beautifully. This is a must read five star plus recommendation!! Worth every tear and giggle ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Bring on the next book!!

Wow, a new series with new characters from my favorite author, life is good!
The Beer League Belles are here and what a great way to start! Give me some mature characters, throw in some hockey and Cutting Edge vibes and we are ready to roll!
Jett and Fable skated in the Olympics back in Salt Lake and there was definitely more chemistry than what they showed on the ice. Unfortunately, Fable's family is wealthy and powerful and Jett's is far from it so after the pair win the gold, Fable and Jett both go their separate ways.
Twenty some years later, Jett is now running the ice rink in their hometown of Thistlebrook while Fable has been moving around the country. When Fable's grandfather passes, she knows it's time to come home and knows that she will be running into Jett since the ice rink he runs, was founded by her grandfather. At the reading of the will, Fable and Jett are both surprised to find that they must work together at the ice rink for a full year before they will receive their respective inheritance and here we go.....
Wow, just wow....Toni has taken her FMC, Fable, and given her alot, from neurodivergent tendencies to questioning her sexuality. Is she the strong, bad *** woman we expect from her? Of course, but I love how Toni always puts us right inside the mind of her characters and all the self doubt that lives there. It makes me want to cheer for their story even more and makes their counterpart even more attractive for finding the strength and beauty in them and making them love them all the more. That turned serious for a bit but dang it, this is why we all come back to Toni Aleo and cheer her characters whether they are NHL, minor league or beer league players.
Well, this review certainly went sideways but if you have read ANYTHING by Toni Aleo, you know the story is good and this one is no different.

Hockey romance plus a positive image of dealing with mental health issues… and omg the sizzling spice between Fable and Jett! Thank you so much for this story and bringing us to Thistlebrook - I have no other way to start this than with a heartfelt thanks.

Thistlebrook is a small town that is all about hockey. Fable and Jett were the town’s golden couple when they were kids. They made their way to the Olympics, and then Fable’s family decided they knew best and got in the way of the possibility of any young romance. Jett is sent to try college hockey and the two spend 20 years apart from each other. They both felt the sparks between them, but never acted on it and never admitted it to each other.

Fast forward to their adult lives…. Fable is on her own in the big city, trying to cope with all of her mental health labels, and being very successful as a figure skating coach. Jett is back in Thistlebrook, running the local hockey rink, playing as the star of the Beer League Belles hockey team, and being the apple of the Belles’ eyes.

And then tragedy strikes and Fable comes back to Thistlebrook. There’s family drama that everyone is thrown into. It becomes Fable’s opportunity to deal with deep emotions, and Jett is by her side to support her and lift her up (figuratively and physically).

Witnessing Fable and Jett reconnect is so heartwarming, I feel like I was the long lost Belle in my pink jersey, with tears in my eyes as they accepted the love that had been between them for 20 years. Jett teaches Fable about acceptance and found family. Fable discovers herself and is able to flourish into the beautiful woman that she has always been (with all the ink, piercings and flaws).

I absolutely loved this story, and cannot wait for the next trip to Thistlebrook.

PS - Maggie is my spirit-Belle. At least for now, they have to be a staple of any Thistlebrook story

"At the Edge with You" maybe a small town hockey romance, but it is so much. It is one of those stories that grabs reader's interest, pulls at the heart strings and leaves you with tears falling. Immerse yourself in Jett and Fable's story, a love story that will remain in your heart long after you close the book.

Twenty years ago, love grew on the ice for Jett and Fable as they skated their way to Olympic Gold. Their love was obvious to anyone that saw them together. That love was not acceptable to her rich parents. Jett would never be good enough.

Money talks. Jett walks. He had no choice. Her parents would have it no other way. He was not good enought for their daughter. My stomach is still churning over what her parents resorted to. What they still try and do. They chased their daughter away.

Fable would not return until kitty, her beloved grandmother, calls her home. Kitty's one love, Phillip, was gone. Jett's mentor and boss at the Ice Thistle Rinks, was gone. Only Kitty could get Fable to come home after the death of her grandfather. Get ready for a lot of page turning family drama.

I soon learned that the past can influence the present. Guilt can be erased, if you plan it right. I don't know how he did it, but Phillip planned it right. Fable might have had her issues, but her parents made them so much worse. It is no better when she returns. Phillip steps in from the grave to protect Jett and Fable, correcting a mistake.

Their story had my heart breaking over and over again. I didn't expect so many tears. There were sad tears, crushing tears. There were also tears from deep stomach laughter. The kind of laughter that reminds me I am old and have had children.

𝐀𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is the first book in the Beer League Belles series by Toni Aleo, featuring a captivating second chance love story for Fable and Jett that brings all the feels and heat! Leave it to Toni Aleo to make my former teenage dreams come true by elevating the premise of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘥𝘨𝘦 into a beautifully complex adult journey full of passion, drama, self-discovery, soul-deep emotion, acceptance, family, and love. I guarantee you won’t find characters like Jett and Fable anywhere else. Fable’s strength and fortitude, despite the way she’d been belittled and degraded for her uniqueness as a neurodivergent individual made me want to stand up and cheer! I was even frustrated with her therapist. Sometimes it feels like endless labels just further divide us. At least, that’s been my experience as someone with physical disabilities. She just needed the freedom to be herself, and someone to see her for exactly who she is. And let me tell you, Jett saw her, and he didn’t want or need to change a damn thing!! I loved every single moment… the angst and longing, the absolute fire, the total love and support he provided! There were also plenty of chances to laugh, from the nods to the movie, flirty banter, and the hilarious antics of the Belles! Those meddling seniors were absolute gems, and I loved so many of the characters in this new world! It was my visceral reaction to the emotion that shocked me though! There’s a point late in the book, when Jett asks, “Princess, in sync with me?” I was was like, “OMG, I am!”😍🥹🫠 I swear, I pretty much cried for the rest of the book, for different reasons! So, so, phenomenal!! I can’t wait for more from this series!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

At the Edge with You is the first installment of Toni Aleo's Beer League Belles and it was definitely enjoyable!

Fable Winthrop is a former gold medal winning figure skater who moved away from her small hometown nearly two decades ago. In her time away she has been diagnosed as neurodivergent and while she wants nothing to do with returning home, she must due to the death of her grandfather. Following the funeral, Fable learns at the reading of the will that she is required to stay in her hometown to help run her grandfather's beloved ice rink for at least a year. This wouldn't be bad except that she has to work with her former doubles skating partner and the one man that has ever made her feel something.

Jett Cook is a hockey player turned ice skater that paired with Fable all those years ago to win gold prior to Fable going solo and he going to college to play hockey. After getting injured while in school, he moved back to his hometown and started working with Fable's grandfather at the ice rink. He was being groomed to take over the rink at some point while also playing in the beer league there.

With Fable back home and the will stipulating that she and Jett had to work together to run the rink, will they be able to rekindle their friendship? And is there more than friendship there between the two? Or will meddling family cause even more problems for the two?

I enjoyed this book and I liked the relationship that Fable had with her grandmother Kitty. I was not pleased with Fable's parents on multiple occasions unfortunately. I appreciated that Jett loved Fable for who she was, challenges, quirks and all. This was a great start to this new series!

At the Edge With You is definitely a five star read for me! I adore this story of Jett and Fable, former friends who met at her grandfather's ice rink. Jett as/is a hockey player and Fable is an ice skater. They meet again when she returns home for her beloved grandfather's funeral. She always had feelings for Jett, and he had feelings for her as teenagers, but they were separated when he went to college and tried for the NHL and she went on to the Olympics.

I adore Fable for her differences. I feel like the way she sees the world, people's actions, and her reactions, are not that different. I loved how she had suck strong feelings for Jett, but didn't think he felt the same about her. They had great banter, which I always enjoy.

I felt Jett's conflict in wanting to pursue a future with Fable, but then again feeling like he couldn't or shouldn't. Most of all I adore Jett's protectiveness of Fable. If only they had been allowed to be together all along. It would have gone a long way to helping Fable feel "normal."

Toni did a wonderful job with Nico in Wild Tendy, just as she has done with Fable in At The Edge With You. She shows the character's conflicted feelings and thoughts about their differences from non-neurodivergent people, and how they don't see how much like normative neurodivergent people they are. I really appreciate how Toni handles these characters, and shows how they have normal lives, how they make their challenges work in everyday life.

A Toni Aleo book is always guaranteed to be a winner for me, a great read that sucks me in and I wish I could stay in that place with those characters forever.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via BookSirens. This in no way impacted on my view.

It's been over 20 years since Fable Winthrop and Jett Cook won gold at the Olympics, or even saw each other again. Jett was sent to college to play hockey, whereas Fable was on a solo route, winning another two golds before fleeing town and doing everything she can to forget her family, and Jett. But now she's back in town, and stuck here for at least a year due to stipulations in her grandfather's will. If she leaves, Jett loses the ice rink he's made his own, and Fable would never do that to him. She's tried to forget about her childhood friend and crush, but being partners once again is stirring up the old feelings, and she doesn't want to fight them any longer.

I loved this book! From the first few pages, I was hooked, and the fact that it was dual POV made it all the better. We got to see both Jett and Fable's characters, seeing their flaws and their mistakes, but also what made them uniquely perfect for each other. The yearning and sheer love they had for each other was magnificent, and the fact that it was not all plain sailing, but there were arguments and animosity as they rediscovered themselves and each other, made it even more enjoyable. The extended cast of characters, especially the Belles, were a hoot, and I only wish that Fable's parents got their comeuppance because they were truly vile and disgusting characters. I need to read book 2, and hope that Jett and Fable play a large part in it!

A Second Chance Romance that gives me everything I want in a read!

I am here for to stay in Thistlebrook. Toni absolutely nailed it! Second chance with small town charm and some sports drama, this is a book you will not want to put down.

Fable and Jett are former skating partners with a deep bond that was cut short. The heartbreak it had on both was not expressed to each other but it was there. I was so drawn into their reunion… 20 YEARS LATER!!! The tension was there, and it was totally warrant!

The hockey and figure skating blend is unique an adds something different. Also, I love the whole Beer League Hockey Team!!! The ladies, or the Belles, had me LOL-ing every time they popped up on page! Fable is a strong, guarded and totally relatable character. Jett is the perfect mis of rugged and vulnerable. The chemistry is undeniable, and their journey back to each other felt earned. Not rushed or overly dramatic. BIG PLUS, we have a small town, and I love me some small town vibes!! It gave cozy, real life feels that made me want to google Thistlebrook and visit!

This book is filled with emotion. Grief, regret, redemption and hope. That is what I love about Toni’s books, they are always filled with the feels!

If you are looking for a new, different and fun read, this is it!

Jett wanted to be a hockey star, but he was also figure skating in order to pay for all of the gear. His dad left and his “girls” raised him. While figure skating, he was paired with Fable, and they were fantastic. Her parents could see the growing feelings they each had and didn’t like it. He quit and followed his dream of becoming a pro hockey player. Years later, he is back in the small town, running the rink and living his life.

Fable has recently, and in her thirties, been diagnosed as neurodivergent. She believes she is asexual and has never forgotten Jett, who she feels abandoned her. When her grandfather passes away, she begrudgingly goes back to the small town to pay her respects. She hasn’t been back in years, partly because she doesn’t want to run into Jett and partly due to her overbearing parents.

She arrives very memorably and both of their lives change in ways they never imagined. I enjoyed seeing them get to know each other again and their banter. The fact that he did things in order to see her “fight” was great. Their open and honest conversations were enlightening and I adored how he always saw her and never let her believe she was too much. I loved the characters, story, and how fabulous the mental aspects of Fable were written. I can’t wait for more books in this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

I am a big Toni Aleo fan I've been reading since her Nashville Assassins series and At The Edge With You reminded me of her old school work. And I think the relationship between Fable and Jett is the thing that reminded me of those books, and that relationship is why I loved this book so much. Throughout the entire book we see both Fable and Jett have each other's backs no matter what. And for Fable who has only really ever been told which is wrong with her and everything she needs to change about herself she needed that. Jett loves Fable unconditionally and with no caveats. For Jett Fable showed him that she thinks the world of him and he is good enough for her.
Another highlight of this book is Fable’s grandma, and Jett's grandmas and mom. They all had that they needed to get Fable and Jett together and they worked to get them together. But they weren't overly meddlesome I which can really annoy me. But they were a good level of scheming. I also enjoyed all the references to the classic 90's movie, Cutting Edge.

At the Edge with You combines two of my favorite things: Toni Aleo books and a book inspired by the movie The Cutting Edge. I couldn’t read this book fast enough. Jett is the prefect brooding hockey player who, when given the chance, will not let Fable get away a second time. They were dynamite on the ice but after many years apart a funeral brings Fable back to the last place she ever wanted to come. The book has great secondary characters. I love Jett’s tattooed grandmother. She needs her own books of all her adventures. Toni does a fantastic job of writing Fable and Jett. Toni has a way of channeling her inspiration movie into the characters. There is passion between Jett and Fable. Oh is there passion! Once they decide that working together again is special their characters have the chance to discover what could have been all along. Sure, they had to grow along the way, but sometimes the best things are the things that were right in front of you all along. Fable is unapologetic in who she is and she knows that she doesn’t have to change for anyone. Luckily for her, Jett loves her and isn’t afraid to stand by her. This was a great start to the series and I can’t wait to see what the Beer League Belles have in store for us!

The beginning of a new series!! At the Edge with You is introducing us to the beer league hockey team, The Beer League Belles.
If these characters are any indication, I already know I’m going to love his series!
Jett is a former ice skater/ hockey player who not only plays in the beer league but also runs the rink where the games are held. Raised by the 3 generations of strong minded women and you get the idea of what kinda of man he is.
Fable is a former Olympic ice skater and Jett’s former partner. She is also the granddaughter of the owner of the rink. Pushed to the brink of insanity by her parents and loved unconditionally by her grandparents, you start to get the idea of who she is and why she stays away from the small town that holds such conflicting emotions for her.
Jett and Fable came together 20 years ago as friends and partners. 20 years later that connection is still strong and all consuming. If soul ties are a thing, Jett and Fable are prime examples of it.
This book has a little bit of everything. Kinda enemies to lovers, forced proximity, past love, mental health issues, controlling parents, crazy funny old people, intriguing side characters and a very possessive MMC.
Yo! Bring on the Beer League! I can’t wait to see what Toni has in store for us!

Wow. I requested this arc back in July, but it wasn't due until mid Oct, so I postponed reading it until it was closer to the due date…. IF I HAD KNOWN it was a banger, and absolute HEATER - I would have read it months ago. It truly came out of left field. this is a new to me author, so I didn't know what to expect but man, I loved it so much I'm already planning to request book 2 about their associated friend "DEAN".

But about Jett and Fable - such a great display of a love that only comes once in a lifetime. that it is a later in life second chance made it really really special. A lot of books try to convey star crossed, or Destiney. the best description of this love would be a fated mating. true in ever sense - Meant to be together.

Something I've seen happening in a lot of book recently is chapters from secondary characters who are extremely important to the story; in this we got a few chapters from their grandmothers. Is a version of the world I would love to live in, no one is an island, we all need support. Further showing the importance of their grandmothers but showing us their perspective was genius.

I received an advance review copy for free through BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

FULL REVIEW

It’s been a hot minute since a book has made me feel ALL the things…I laughed (out loud at times), I swooned, I BLUSHED, and I cried…perfect makings of a story for me.

Fable and Jett are so perfect, I don’t have adequate words. I related so heavily to Fable and her “I’m the problem” mindset, and am blessed enough to have my very own Jett to remind me I’m not too much, but perfect in my own imperfect way.

The banter, the passion, and the BELLES! Oh, the Belles. I would love to see more of them in their own stories…because from just the cross-stitch alone, I know they have colorful backstories. These four meddling women are the mommas and grandmamas we all need in our life. Their insight and encouragement was a perfect addition to this story, creating another layer to fall in love with.

I cannot wait for you to read this story, which releases soon! Toni Aleo scored big time with this one and I look forward to the next story in this Belles series.

*Thank you to the author and Booksirens for the opportunity to read and review this title.*

I don't know how Toni surpasses herself with each book, but she does. Fable and Jett's chemistry is off the charts. They were the "cutting edge" couple. They were young and in love but neither would acknowledge it being so young. Well enter the interfering parents. Fable's parents are horrible to her and send him away. Unfortunately her Grandfather lets it happen. Fable goes off and has a successful solo skating career and then goes off on her own to stay as far away from her toxic parents. Queue years down the road and her grandfather passes. Her beloved grandmother Kitty summons her home for the funeral. Fable knowing she will run into Jett and her parents comes home with all her "baggage". Thinking she is broken with all of her issues. Jett has been thriving, alone, running the ice rink with her grandfather. As part of the will they have to work together for 1 year in order for Jett to keep the Ice Thistle as it was promised to him all those years ago. Little do they know there is more to this plan. You have to read to see how Fable and Jett get to theie HEA. It is a hot steamy adventure. A must read.

I loved Fable and Jett's journey to love.
When Fable is called home to Thistlebrook for her grandfather's funeral. Fable had just ended a year long relationship with a boyfriend she didn't care about and felt relief when he left.
Fable hasn't been home in. while and has never had her parents approve of her.
Fable is anxious as she knows Jett will be around. Her once skating partner 20 years ago, when they won Olympic gold.
Jett stayed away from Fable, as her parents demanded.
Jett now runs Thistle Ice rink. His dreams came true to run this place and will now own.
When Jett sees Fable his hearts beats faster..she is still beautiful and he has missed her.
When the will reading discloses Fable and Jett run the Thistle Ice arena together for 1 year.
Grandma Kitty and Jrtt' mom and grandma's are huge Belle supporters. These ladies are a hoot!
We get to watch Fable and Jett fall in love and how Jett calms Fable like nobody has ever done.
we watch Fable bring back figure skating program and the Thistle just grows!
Fable is stronger than all the love she didn't get from her parents. Fable stands up to them and how much hurt they have caused.
The love story is beautiful!
