Journey beyond the illusion of separation with this profound spiritual guide rooted in the nondual teachings of Advaita Vedanta. This book offers a clear and compassionate path to self-awareness, helping you uncover the deeper meaning of life and experience the peace that comes from realizing your true nature.
No Path to Enlightenment is a profound invitation to look beyond the surface dramas and distractions of life, challenging the very notion of the self as we commonly understand it. Inspired by Socrates’ bold declaration that “the unexamined life is not worth living,” this book encourages a courageous inward exploration that many shy away from due to fear and conditioning.
This book reveals how our identity, shaped by thoughts, social roles, and personal stories, is ultimately an illusion—a construct that obscures the deeper reality of who we truly are. Beneath the restless mind and its incessant chatter lies a vast, unchanging stillness—the eternal Absolute or pure awareness—that embraces all experience without limitation.
Rather than offering a path or method to control or suppress thoughts, the book gently guides readers to a subtle but transformative to notice thoughts as passing phenomena, like clouds drifting across a clear sky, rather than becoming entangled in them. This shift liberates from the grip of the defensive ego, self-doubt, and negative self-talk, opening the way to genuine freedom.
Freedom here means living with ease, free from the constraints of ingrained patterns and the false self, and awakening to the realization that you are not the “I am” born of thought but the “I” before thought—the pure presence that underlies all experience.
The author, Colin McMorran, draws from his deep engagement with Advaita Vedanta, a non-dualistic Hindu philosophy, as well as Western philosophy and psychology, to present these timeless truths in clear, accessible prose. His writing resonates with seekers from all walks of life, inviting them to question the very foundation of their identity and to taste the freedom that comes from recognizing the illusion of separateness.
This is not a journey with a destination or a self to discover but an impersonal arrival at the recognition of the stillness beneath all appearances. Like a vessel leaving the safety of the harbor to sail the vast ocean, the book invites you to loosen the ropes of your mental prison and set sail into the freedom of pure consciousness. It challenges the stories and conditioning that keep you tethered to a limited sense of self, opening the possibility of living fully in the present moment, free from the illusions that obscure your true nature.
It offers a rare and profound opportunity to awaken to the deepest reality of your being, to see the world as it truly is, and to realize your highest potential beyond the confines of thought and identity. It is an invitation to experience the ocean of consciousness that you are, embracing the freedom and peace that arise when the illusion of the separate self dissolves.
Readers have praised the book for its clarity, depth, and transformative power, placing it alongside works by renowned spiritual teachers such as Eckhart Tolle, Adyashanti and Rupert Spira. Many have found in it not just intellectual insight but a direct experience of the stillness and peace that lies beyond the self.

This is the best book on exposing the illusion of the (imagined) self and consequently easily one of the best pointers to Reality that I have ever read. A much clearer articulation of non-dual REALITY than can be found through the published versions of Sri Ramana and/or Nasargadatta Maharaj's teachings-although it is pointing to the very same REALITY.
This is the first book of this kind that I have read- with this message so clear that there is no self. All other books on spirituality (that I’ve read) have only encouraged the development of oneSELF and our story. But this book blew all that out of the water. The beginning is heavy and wordy, but I found once I got through the first handful of chapters there was so much richness to be found. A must read for those searching! You’ll find every answer about where you’re “going” right here!
No false notes here, a message delivered without pretence... with what could be nothing less than genuine experiene.Thank you, Colin. Please accept a full measure of gratitude for this right book at the right time.
There is a resonance for the truth behind the words. A gift for how to recognize and find the space of awareness we are looking for but are already in.
If you are at all of a troubled disposition then please; DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
This book is as troublesome as The Catcher In The Rye!
It will indoctrinate you and into the wrong direction you really need to be taking if you have mental health issues!
Read at your own risk. I tell you now - and from past and personal experience, this book will cause you mental trauma as it has done for me.
I don’t care IF it is supposed to be helpful. It isn’t!
For people who really need help with their mental health, this is NOT the book to read! It is full of mind altering word placements and suggestions and will create havoc for you.
If you have read it and you are suffering then there is only thing to do; keep reciting the Jesus Prayer (google it) and this will exorcise the mental smorgasbord of overthinking and overwhelming thoughts you may have encountered after reading this. 🙏
The author states right up front that this is not a feel good book for those spiritual seekers looking for a guru, encouragement or coaching on how to achieve enlightenment. This book was written to help the reader refine noticing the illusion, which includes the spiritual seeker. To notice those signs that keep you imprisoned. To reflect on the existence of those fears of losing self and where they come from. Maybe a buzz kill to some, but really a truth that helps the reader notice, to see anew, to leave the harbor. Definitely a book I was ready to read. Light winds and following seas...
After being stuck in a depressive state for years, I have realised, through this book, that I have control or more importantly I can observe. I would say that my road to recovery has started but now I realise there is no road. I have read numerous books on enlightenment, awareness etc etc. But I have never read with such clarity, a book that defines why we, as humans, are suffering in so many ways. Thank you Colin, your words of truth are greatly appreciated.
This is one of the finest books written about the subject of 'Non Self' or 'Anatta'. Just as Lao Tzu mentioned, 'The Tao that can be spoken of is not the real Tao', anything that is said here is just a finger pointing to the moon. All the analogies and allegories mentioned in this book are very powerful and yet simple to visualize and even a novice reader of this subject would appreciate and enjoy the content and would greatly benefit from it.
This is a very intelligent book written apparently by a very intelligent person about a difficult subject. Fortunately for us who already read a few books on non duality, this book is another support that we walk the right direction.
Very Interesting self help book . Helps in better understanding of Non-self , non-duality and such assumptions. apparently demands a firm attention and which is worth at the end.
I have read a few books on non duality in the past and they have all made an impression on me. This book made the most impact on my life. Colin does what seems impossible and hints at what the indescribable is like. I have since moved on to read another book by Colin McMorran Silent Mind. I thoroughly recommend both if you are a seeker who wants to stop seeking. I have to remind myself every day to let go and transcend the thoughts that appear to be telling me the story of my life. All they are and all everything that appears is passing clouds.
