Converging Contests: The Webs of Fate Book Three

Rate this book
The third installment in The Webs Of A decadent, dark story about fate. The Webs of Fate series is an addicting forbidden love, dark romantic fantasy with witty banter, heart-stopping action, and blistering hot romance set in a vibrant modern-day world full of magic where myth and history blur together in a mockery of truth.

Callahan
The webs of the fates are tightening like a noose around my life. The Dark contest is closer than ever, the contenders marked to compete. Forty days remain, a time of mourning the loss of our king before the trials of the contest begin. I put my affairs in order, starting with balancing the scales with the Magia.
It lures me into a false sense of security, the only thing that goes my way as I prepare for the contest.

Natalia
I have a list of annoyances going.
Tony is back in my life, whatever infected Ness from that codex might kill her, Cal’s sister hates me, and I am to be his weapon in the contest. If all that wasn’t headache-inducing enough, Pierre becomes the Light Queen, and Lucius, the Ancient, has some plan concocted involving me.
Then there are my feelings. Falling in love is never easy. Cal falls first, but trust is hard. I can’t bring myself to confess until it’s too late.

This book is intended for mature audiences. This series will contain explicit content and dark elements that may be triggering to some. It will include a magical race of beings known as the Seraphinus that has two factions with extreme prejudice against each other. Additional Violence / Mature Language, Contracted Servitude, Emotional / physical abuse, Substance abuse, Sexually explicit scenes* / Dub Con *While not included in this book, this series will feature a M/M/F relationship

Holy Mother. This series just gets better and better.

I don't usually like it when multiple POVs happen and stories start to spread out. However, this is done so freaking well.

The words I would like to say won't do this book justice. The amount of detail C.J. Wallingsford puts into this series is amazing.

We get to see more of Nessy and Mass and it's so good. Their dynamic is amazing. I absolutely love it.

Of course, we love Tallie and Cal. The growth we get to see through this book is fantastic. The power, the emotions, all of it.

Let's talk about Tony real quick. Are we thinking redemption arc? Possibly. I don't hate him as much now, so maybe redemption is in the cards.

All the surprises and secrets that start to come out were just *chefs kiss*.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I did cry a little. The story got me.

I can't wait to continue this series. It's such an amazing story.

CJ never disappoints!

With every book in this series so far, she has raised the stakes for these can't-get-enough characters and literature-ly blown me away.

I can't imagine what will happen next, and I can't wait to find out.

Bring on Book Four!

Callllllllll. I love him. The ending of this book was something else. This is book 3 in the series so you would think I would have been prepared for this, but oh no. New level of stress unlocked. Like what just happened???? (in a good way.) I did not see the plot taking the course that it did. Like gods, challenges, Pierre being a Queen (lol.) It was wild. I cannot wait until I get to read book 4.

Omg where do I start with Converging Contests, which is book 3 in the Webs Of Fate series.
I loved this book so much, did it leave me heartbroken? Well yes, but did CJ also weave an amazing story of love, banter and intrigue? 100% yes 🙌🏻
I’m loving seeing more truths unfold and everyone’s characters developing and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Left absolutely sobbing and needing to start the next book this second 😭

Definitely has ups and downs, as well as some intense scenes but still loving where the story is going as well as some of the things we find out as some truths come out and mysteries solved. Can't wait to see what happens next

I don't know what CJ keeps putting in these books, but I just cannot get enough. Once I pick it up I want to ignore sleep and just read until I cannot function. Converging Contests is now a very close second favorite in The Webs of Fate series for me.

For her, I would figure out how to draw blood from a stone.

Thank you CJ Wallingsford for an eARC!

“No, you don’t. We have never been allowed to do as we please. We are the contractors, and with that comes responsibility. We are to hold ourselves to a higher standard. We stand at the top and it’s a position of power but requires the sacrifice of ourselves for those beneath us.”

I really thought with the ending of Dividing Illumination: The Webs Of Fate Book Two majority of this book would be the contest and akin to the games in Gathering Shadows: The Webs of Fate Book One but what I got was so much more than what I could have ever wished for. CJ has not only completely built 2 cultures from the ground up but she has not missed a single detail. She doesn't just tell us how they live and the codes they believe in she shows us what that should actually look like and what happens when they are followed, and not followed. This creates some of the best reader immersion I have ever experienced and is part of why I am so obsessed with this series and need everyone else to read it. Not only are the cultures explored in-depth, but the human experience of our growing cast of main and mostly lovable side characters. This woman has managed to make me completely 180 how I feel about some of her characters, because Talia is also growing enough to understand why they did what they did and while they may not deserve forgiveness, they do deserve understanding, especially around the pain and suffering they also went through.

“One can never have too many books.” I shrug. “Books are ah- maz- ing.”

Talking about emotional pain and suffering, you had better be ready for some more in book 3. I was lighting up CJ's DMs at 2AM like a snot-bubble-blowing crying child after chomping through this book in 3 days and how it left me emotionally unwell over things no one saw coming. Vanessa continues to rival Natalia for my favorite character as she continues her growth arc at lightning speed. I have never been so proud of a fictional character as I am of her for not only standing up for herself but being so vulnerable and raw. By extension, I am proud of CJ for continuing to write in such a way for both of the FMCs. It goes beyond just good story writing to portray such things so well. You are channeling parts of yourself and your own life experiences into your craft. I have to mention how much I love how CJ connected the bonus scene of DI into CC. I will not spoil it, but the bonus scene still lives rent-free in my head and then for it to connect back around after learning so much in this book. It was just the perfect tying up of that loose end.

“You’re my guiding star, my future mate and queen, my weapon and partner, and I’m your home.”

I'm going to continue screaming at the top of my lungs about this series for so many reasons, but a huge one for me is the authentic romances. They're hard, they hurt, they're chaotic, and their bonds are constantly tested, but they're also unbreakable, beautiful, healing, full of banter and humorous in the cutest way possible. It is such a large part of what keeps me just chomping through these chonky books. I am fretting more about what is going to happen in book four and how everyone is going to be affected than I am worried about my own IRL relationships. If, for some reason, you are reading this before reading this book because maybe DI left you feeling all kinds of ways. All I can say is trust the process and continue on because all the pieces aren't even on the board yet.

The story continues... overall, I enjoyed book three! It was long and talky, a little repetitive, with an action-packed ending. I did predict the ending, but I can't believe she did it. I thought nooo no, she wouldn't, but she did, and I am so excited for the next leg in Tallie's journey. I have new respect for Tallie, I've found her sass to be "pick me" so far, until that last fight. "Is there a door you need me to open" was literally my favorite part of the whole book. Great job to the author. This story is a grind, and it's coming together beautifully. I am what I am, so I have to mention the typos. I see them as little Easter eggs just for me. I'll be here with my highlighter if you ever need an additional beta reader.

This was another great installment in the Webs of Fate series, but oh did it hurt at the end.

I have been sucked into the world building of this series from the beginning, and this one delivered even more. The contests for the Dark Throne is approaching, and things are going to shit. The Light and Dark are still at each other's throats every turn, the Ancients are making their presence known, and people are dying in droves.

Cal and Nat technically have 40 days to get their affairs in order before they enter the contest for the Dark Throne, where only one person, and their weapon if they are lucky, walks away from. But during that 40 days where they just want to lie around, be lazy, and fuck, the Webs of Fate have other ideas.

There was SO much that happened in this book, but it was presented in a way where it was all easy to keep track of and the story flowed so well. The attention to detail was impeccable. But the ending???? Way to rip out my heart, stomp on it, put it through a blender, and put it back in my chest. I will be needing book 4 asap, because that was a steep cliff and I don't believe what happened, happened. I will gladly stay in my delulu land until I read book 4 thank you very much.
