Dana LeeAnn lives for the dark side of romance—the stalkier, the better. She originally used writing as an outlet to heal herself, but found it addictive, and has never stopped. Her books are packed with suspense and questionable love interests that will leave your heart racing at the turn of every page. When she’s not dreaming up new ways to torture her characters (and readers), she can be found in northern Colorado, exploring the mountains or dragging her husband into a new project around the house.

4 stars. This was really well written and action packed. I’m usually not a fan of Alice in Wonderland retellings but this was good. I liked Queen Scarlett and Queen Ravenna a lot. They were great together and were a kick ass force as a team. Both women are incredibly smart and rule their kingdoms with an iron fist, especially the Queen of Hearts, Scarlett. The romance between them developed at a good pace but I do wish the animosity they had between them in the beginning had lasted a little bit longer. Other than that though this was action packed, political and romantic lead by two kick ass heroines. Highly recommend it.

A dark retelling where you root for the Queen of Hearts. Scarlett ‘The Queen of Hearts’ vows to rule through fear after a traumatic event. Queen Ravenna forms an alliance with Queen Scarlett in order to protect their kingdoms from an upcoming war.

I was so excited to get my hands on this after reading the book description, and it did not disappoint. It’s a real page-turner and I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with Scarlett and Ravenna. They had such great chemistry and really cared for one another. I highly recommend it and I couldn't get enough. After all, who doesn’t love a good villain arc?

This was a cute but twisted retelling full of whimsical magic and a bond born of unification... I adored this.. the magic of Underland joins forces with the magic of Darkmore and with it 2 Queens who fall in love and unite their magic together to defeat the corruption sought by the one who deems to take it all...

Dana's writing never ceases to amaze me and the way that all of her worldbuilding is created as well as the characters and their development through stories really draws you in and makes you feel...

It was entertaining although I didn't vibe with it as much as I would like, a little uneven, but nothing really wrong with it, I think it will work much better for other people.

Ravenna and Scarlett such an amazing story!!! Two Queens coming together to not only save their kingdoms but others as well!! This story was so very amazing and intriguing and kept me coming back for more.

Scarlett and Ravenna both thought they were better on their own in the beginning, but the impending battle coming brought them together and refused to let go seeing them both grow stronger together and and develop not only the partnership to save their kingdoms, but the romantic connection between them was heart melting!! I love every minute of this story and I’m so happy they got the happy ending they deserved!!!

Amazing dark sapphic villain retelling with forbidden love, power, and secrets.

I loved this book! The story of Scarlett and Ravenna was captivating and beautifully written. I loved their relationship development and how they had to learn to work together. They truly balanced each other out.

I loved the worldbuilding and how different the vibe of Underland and Darkmore was, from little things like flowers to different magical creatures.

I couldn’t put this book down and devoured it in one sitting.

“Two queens. Two approaches to power. Two women who have sacrificed normalcy for the burden of a crown.”
"Is it weakness to acknowledge the costs of power? Or is it weakness to pretend no cost exists?"
"Blood ties mean little when power is at stake."
"Curiosity can be dangerous. Particularly for queens with kingdoms to protect."

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

“Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the most ruthless of them all?”

Another perfect sapphic villain retelling. This time we journey to Underland and Darkmore where two queens are facing a foe together.

Scarlett is the Queen of Hearts and she rules only by fear. That is until Ravenna comes for a friendly diplomatic meeting and instantly catches the Queen of Hearts eyes.

Ravenna is the Queen of Darkmore, but she’s also its dark witch. When a vision in her mirror comes to play she must do the unthinkable. She must combine forces with Scarlett.

Together will they defeat this foe and save their kingdoms. Or will darkness prevail?

Wow. Just wow. Dana killed this one, no surprise there. The Queen of Hearts and the Evil Queen (witch queen) make an unlikely pair in this story. From Allies to lovers, we watch Raveena and Scarlett discover that they don't have to be alone anymore. They are stronger together. Can they defeat Mara and the corruption?

Off With Her Head is a sapphic villain retelling of The Queen of Hearts and The Evil Queen. This was a really fun story with interesting and unexpected twists and turns.

Both Queen Scarlett and Queen Ravenna have isolated themselves to protect their kingdoms and their hearts. That all changes with a single diplomatic visit filled with curiosity from both parties, and when a threat is revealed that targets both their kingdoms, the Queens realize they are stronger together than they ever were apart.

Queen Scarlett and Queen Ravenna’s relationship is effortless and their dynamic is well balanced. I don’t think there’s a single red flag or toxic trait to be seen.

What happens when the chaotic Queen of Hearts, who rules by fear, and the composed witch queen of Darkmore, who rules with blood magic, find that their fates are intwined in more ways than one?

You’ll have to read Off With Her Head by Dana LeeAnn to find out 😉 I do spoiler free reviews

The world that Dana weaves in a short amount of time is fascinating! I loved the distinct worlds of Underland and Darkmore and their individual quirks and creatures. For fans of Wonderland lore, there are enough callbacks to put a smile on your face but so many more unique intricacies to keep you reading. And while Ravenna may be inspired by an “Evil Queen” with an all knowing magic mirror, that is where the similarities stop and instead we get a fresh take on Queen who uses her prophetic mirror and her blood magic to protect her dark loving kingdom.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that either of these Queens are “evil.” Scarlett certainly does push the boundaries by ruling by fear and ordering what seems like an unnecessary amount of executions in the beginning of the story to maintain that fear. But we’re given back story as to why she does this. Then as the story progresses, we see how they come to balance each other out.

In terms of Dark Romance, I would say this would be on the lighter end. There’s certainly dark themes such as blood magic, battles/deaths, etc., so check the warnings, but overall, not too many trigger warnings. Which is not a bad thing and did not take away from my enjoyment of the book! Just clarifying :)

I think things that would have made it better for me may have been a bit more tension between the main characters at first? They were rival queens, so there was some resistance at first. But overall, I don’t know that there was much tension build up from that. Which is fine, that doesn’t have to be a big plot point! I’m just a sucker for a gritty enemies to lovers plot 😂

Overall, I enjoyed the villain retelling/fairytale retelling aspect of this book, the overall plot, and the world itself immensely. The way that Dana weaved this new world around familiar pieces was truly well done and would love to see more of it!

DISCLAIMER: I received an ARC copy of this book. But I was encouraged to complete an honest review and was in no way pressured to put certain things in my review or complete a review in general.

This story by Dana was quite something. It brings together the Queen of Hearts and the so-called Evil Queen in a way you might not expect. You get to see how these two, Raveena and Scarlett, find a connection with each other, moving beyond just being allies. It's about them realizing they don't have to face things on their own anymore. They seem to find strength in standing together. The big question becomes whether they can overcome Mara and whatever trouble she's stirring up.
The setup of this book takes you to some interesting places called Underland and Darkmore. It's a retelling of a familiar kind of story, but with a focus on two queens who are dealing with a common enemy. You get a sense of the different atmospheres of these two kingdoms and how the queens operate within them. It feels like you're stepping into a world where power and magic are just part of everyday life.
Scarlett, the Queen of Hearts, runs her kingdom in a particular way, and it seems to be based on making sure everyone knows who's in charge. Then Ravenna shows up for what's supposed to be a peaceful meeting between their lands. There's an immediate draw between them that Scarlett can't ignore. It makes you wonder how this unexpected interest will change things for her and her kingdom.
Ravenna, who rules Darkmore, is also known as a powerful magic user. When her mirror shows her something troubling, she realizes she has to do something she probably never thought she'd do. That's teaming up with Scarlett. It sets the stage for a really interesting dynamic between these two rulers. You can tell it's going to be a challenge for them to work together, especially with the stakes being so high for both their people.
Will they be successful in stopping this threat and keeping their kingdoms safe? Or will things fall apart under the pressure? The way the relationship between Ravenna and Scarlett develops alongside this external conflict is a key part of the story. It makes you curious to see how their connection will play a role in the bigger picture and what the final outcome will be for everyone involved.

I want to disclose I’be never read any fantasy type Roman/spice or darker themes. This book is an enemy to love retelling about Reveena is the evil queen or witch who rules over Darkmore. She is feared by those she rules over. Her sister Mara did try to unalive her after their parents died. To take over the kingdom: She vanished or so they thought.

Queen Scarlet rules over Underland. Which is full of colors and chaos. She will behead anyone who disobeys her.

Both are rival queens. When they come together to talk about boarders and queen stuff. They are now working together to fight the poison that is taking over Ironwood. The other kingdom. Mara Reveena’s sister is alive, corrupted and wanting to take over Blood and Heart magic all three kingdoms. To have the power of them all. As she has married the King of Ironwood.

These two queen who have been feared. Learn to work together blend their magic to save all the kingdoms with Balance and heart. Not fear and control.

As these two Queens work together. They grow from enemies to lovers. It such a beautiful way.

The way this book gives you every detail. How beautiful it is written. You can visualize the kingdoms, the people and the creatures. It is so well written. The spice scenes are very intimate.

There is some dark elements in here. With death and weird cultures. Other than that nothing too heavy.

The connection between Ravenna and Scarlett had me weak in the knees dude, this retelling had me giggling the whole time. Off With Her Head is a retelling of The Queen Of Hearts and The Evil Queen and the way I was impressed with the imagery and how relatable each character was chef’s 💋. Dana has done it once again, Jesus woman I just need all your books at this point. Do I highly recommend? YES! Please do read it but of course do read the TW/CWs first since this is a dark romance, happy reading babies!

Queen Scarlett of Underland lost her parents when she was young to rebels - her parents ruled their kingdom with kindness, but in the end, her parents' kindness didn't save them. Queen Ravenna of Darkmore rules her kingdom in solitude, only confiding in her prophetic mirror after her sister Mara betrayed her, almost costing Ravenna her life. When Mara steps out of the shadows with an army behind her seeking vengeance and power, Scarlett and Ravenna must join forces to help save their kingdoms, people, and magical creatures.

I absolutely devoured Off with Her Head. The character growth of both Scarlett and Ravenna is so incredible, and I just loved the magical creatures in this retelling! The descriptions of both Underland and Darkmore and how they evolved through the book had me desperately wishing I could travel to these places and experience them myself - they sound so stunning and magical!

I quickly fell for Ravenna and Scarlett - they're such beautiful, strong queens that I could feel their power through Danas words. Ravenna and Scarlett will always be with me as two of my favorite female characters!

I absolutely loved this twisted but cozy villian retelling. Scarlett and Ravenna came to life in this book due to the amazing world building and character development. Dana truly has the magical skills to put you into another world and be able to imagine every detail.

The Queen of Hearts and the Queen of Darkmore come together to find unification to defeat the poisoned sister. I really loved the spin on the story. I felt like you were able to truly understand each character due to the perfect balance of backstory and inner monologue.

Dana’s writing never ceases to amaze me. I am very much a if Dana writes it, I’ll read it. So I am quite possibly bringing that bias with me into this story.

The plot and storyline took precedence in this book. The spice was a perfect addition without taking over the entire story. I’m not so secretly hoping there will be other similar stories to come in the future.

✨ARC Review✨

I fell in love with Scarlett and Ravenna. The level of detail to Underland and Darkmore made me feel like I could see the kingdoms so just vividly in my mind and I loved that I could be completely sucked into this fantasy. The plot really just sucked me in early on in ways I wasn’t anticipating and I lover every second of it.

Scarletts character growth was one of my favorites aspects of this story. Watching her rule with fear and evolving into a more natural authority with respect for her people and less theatrics was 👩🏻‍🍳💋.

This is a short read only 203 pages but I flew through it because I simply couldn’t put this down. I was so invested. I love these queens and the dedication was everything! If you’re looking for a sapphic fantasy without super complex world building with a killer plot and characters you’ll fall for this is it!

This was a really good villain retelling. Finding out what happened in Scarletts past shows why she could be labeled an evil queen to some. It shows why Scarlett doesn't want anyone else to ever see her as weak. I enjoyed learning about each kingdom and how the three kingdoms developed. Scarlett and Ravenna kind of have the same past where someone tried to attack them. You feel bad for Ravenna finding out who it was that attacked her. I loved Scarlett and Ravennas magic blending and changing Scarletts roses. This will have you rooting for Scarlett and Ravenna til the end. You do feel bad for Edmind by the end after finding out he was used by Mara. This was a great retelling and I loved the ending.

A dark sapphic retelling with the Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland) and the Evil Stepmother (Snow White).

2 queens who have their different ways of reigning. 3 kingdoms split.
With one kingdom now in the hands of her sister who tried to kill her, she meets with the infamous Queen of Hearts to try and work together to keep their kingdoms.

1 queen reigns with fear while another reigns with power. But together they realize they can reign with peace as long as they can the twisted sister. And when I say 'together', I am mean TOGETHER hehehe. The moment they see each other, they both felt a connection they never had before. That had them exploring what it could mean to them and their kingdoms.

I think this has the potential to be such a great book but just fell a little short. From the very beginning, the story felt very rushed. As soon as the two queens meet it’s like instant sparks right away. These are supposed to be to be two ruthless queens but all of a sudden are ready to bow to the each other? Idk I wish it would have been a little more drug out. Then, from their first meeting all the drama of the war they end up fighting together begins. Honestly it has such good plot points! The entire storyline of the split kingdoms and reuniting the 3 kingdoms with united power was very good. I just felt like the author was trying to hurry up and get all her ideas out without spending time creating a bond between the reader & the characters.

Brilliant retelling

Off With Her Head contains some triggering situations such as explicit language, explicit sexual content, gore, blood, knives, stabbing, home invasion, parental death, extreme family drama, back- stabbing sister, government corruption, murder, execution, beheading, battle/war, graphic wounds, unhygienic scenes involving blood, mind control and LGBTQ themes.

Off With Her Head is a dark retelling of Alice In Wonderland with a happily-ever-after. The book is also action packed and has witchcraft magical vibes and fantastic creatures.

I rated this book 4* I loved the characters, the plot and how each kingdom & city was described.

The contrast between how each Queen rules definitely fits in with how you'd expect them to but the reasoning behind it is shocking, especially Queen Scarlett's history. She is definitely my favourite queen, the Queen of Hearts has always been my favourite character in both films and books. The animals and characters for Underland are exactly how I'd expect them to be for such a chaotic wonderful place. Darkmore definitely had my imagination working, but what I pictured was just as beautiful just more tamed that Underland, likewise with Ironwood, all 3 kingdoms beautiful in their own right.

I'd recommend this book to those who like Alice In Wonderland themed books, as this was spot on.

I originally had this as an ARC, but just now got to reading a physical copy I purchased right after ... I knew this was an Alice in Wonderland retelling, and wanted to have a physical copy in anticipation of loving it.

Although it was not a 5 for me, I still loved the way Dana LeeAnn was able to capture the magic system the way she did. It was so detailed in a way that was not only descriptive, but whimsical.

Although I loved Scarlett and Ravenna together, I wanted more, especially when it came to Ravenna and her dark magic. However, I loved how Dana LeeAnn was able to capture the blend of Scarlett and Ravenna's magic.

Excited to see what else Dana LeeAnn is up to, so I will be checking other releases ...

If you’re looking for a sapphic Alice in Wonderland/Queen of Hearts retelling this is the novella for you! It follows Queen Ravenna and Queen Scarlett as they form an unlikely alliance to protect their kingdoms from Ravenna’s sister and restore the balance. I loved watching their romance and unlikely bond grow and was rooting for them the whole time. Just like Dana’s other books, the spice was amazing. The storyline was impeccable. The characters were amazing. I have zero complaints about this book, and literally sat there for a few minutes to try and figure out how I was supposed to move onto another book.

Sapphic villains retelling, with a sprinkle of Alice and Wonderland and a lil sprinkle of Snow White's Mirror

Scarlett is the Queen of Hearts in the Underland and rules by fear, and Ravenna is the Queen of Darkmore, and she is a dark witch that rules throu blood magic. Two Queens, two approaches to power, two women who have sacrificed normalcy for the burden of the crown. And now Queen Ravenna needs Queen Scarlett to be her allie against her sister, Queen Mara of Ironwood, and the war that's comin for all the power. This is a very good book retelling. I loved how all the characters in Alice in Wonderland are in the book.

A breathtakingly dark and enchanting fantasy, this novel delivers everything a reader could want—ruthless queens, forbidden attraction, and high-stakes intrigue. The world-building is rich and immersive, bringing to life a kingdom teetering on the edge of war. Scarlett and Ravenna are complex, compelling leads whose uneasy alliance crackles with tension, both political and romantic. The story masterfully blends action, betrayal, and slow-burning passion, keeping readers hooked until the final page. With its gripping twists and a prophecy that looms ominously over the characters, this is an absolute must-read for fans of epic fantasy and powerful female leads. 10/10

Another book of Danas that has me obsessed, at this point Dana just hand them all over lol
This is a dark Sapphic retelling, that makes you root for both our Queens, Scarlett and Ravenna, both queens believing they are better off alone, before meeting each other and becoming allies, learning to trust one another, their magics bringing together the balance of their kingdoms. These two queens will have you cheering for them from the very start. If you like fantasy, its definitely got those fantasy vibes, a little world building but nothing too complicated, for people like me who can struggle with that side of fantasy. The plot and action, along with the spice are *chefs kiss*
No point asking if I would recommend this book, because y'all know I will!! Its so freaking good <3

More of a 2.5 read for me. If I had to summarize this book in a word it would be: rushed. This felt so so very rushed. After our two queens meet it’s like bam bam bam off we go, romance, war, anticlimactic resolution and then end. Is it cute and a quick read?…absolutely. Is it full of world building and character growth with some depth you can sink your teeth into?… no, not at all. At times the magic system is confusing and the reader just has to accept that things work out and their magic works this way because the author says so. All in all not a bad read for KU but not a read again for me.
