I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. we meet Rose, a young woman who had a troubled childhood living with an alcholic father. On her own at a younge age, she met Buddy, a diner owner, who took her in and gave her purpose. she continues to have nightmares daily and draws to help her stay calm. her boyfriend of 2 years Damon is an eel in disguise of the perfect boyfriend. when they are out apt hunting, he stops at a warehouse and when she finds him, he leaves her with a man whom he stole from. great, Rose goes from one captor to another. Maybe this is a good thing. Tyr is angry at Damon for stealing from him but is shocked when he leaves a female with him. Tyr has been alone for a long time that he forgets how to be civil. There is smtg about Rose that captivates Tyr. he cant put his finger or claw on it but hes under her spell. Tyr learns more about Rose and what she went through and what Damon has done to her. Their circumstances may not be ideal but they will learn to adapt. There are more questions than answers esp when Tyr sees Roses tattoos. His loyal witch friend Sage is there to help him along the way and keep Rose safe at all costs.

I am so grateful for receiving the ARC for this book!

It was amazing.

anything and everything I wanted. It might've been the right thing at the right time, but I'll take it!

Rose is this poor soul tormented by the world, while Tyr is the definition of a protector. Their encounter is exactly what Rose needs and their relationship is the best thing the world has to offer 💗

I've said it before and I'll say it again: i rate my books based on vibes mostly. So here is some 5 star vibe that needs to be on everyone's list. The author deserves a prize 👏 for how good she was with representing the emotions and actions of this book. I felt everything on a cellular level and it was amazing.

The world building is something to be explored in the future but for a book where 90% of the action happend in a house, we learned plenty.

This is a good introduction to a series and I can not wait for the next book to be out( i know... long time till that, but a girl can hope)

Did i mentionit is spicy??I'd say only🌶 but worth it nonetheless

I feel like all the air has been deflated out of my lungs!!! Morgan!! THAT ENDING?!?! 😖 The BONUS EPILOGUE!

I ate it up!!
This is a shifter romance with humans, fae, witches and other magical beings.
The character growth is done so well. I love how Rose is starting to find her confidence. Unfortunately I can deeply relate to some of the abuse she experiences at the hands of angry people. I know im going to find bits of healing for myself while reading her healing journey as the series progresses!!

Sage is probably my favorite side character ever!! She’s just the best and she better not betray us at any point or I will throw hands!!!💪🏼 Totallyyyy kidding!

I loved this book and I can’t wait to see where it goes!! I’m so curious!! 👀

Format: E-Book
Genre: Romantasy

* Thank you to Morgan G. and BookSirens for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

I would like to take a moment to applaud Morgan G. on how well she created Rose’s character. She walked a very delicate line of having the FMC shaped by her past traumatic experiences but also giving her a safe space within the book to grow from them.

Rose has lived a hard life, with periodic flashbacks the reader is able to understand the extent of Rose’s trauma - while also understanding why she feels the need to tip toe around everything to keep people at ease. Tyr and Rose end up very much stuck with each other through unexpected circumstances, but with that Rose finds a sense of found family and safety. Sage and Tyr give Rose the means to blossom in a way that was so pure and beautiful.

I expect as the rest of the series progresses we will get more high fantasy elements, but within this book it takes on more of a low fantasy genre. I liked that building and forming Rose’s story was the focal point within this book, I think it gives her character more depth and strength moving forward in the rest of the series. I am excited to see how she continues to evolve and what kind of fantasy elements play a role in Rose’s relationship with Tyr. There have been hints and my own theories that have me very interested in where their relationship will progress to.

This book is such a clear 5 stars read for me!
I took my time to enjoy this lovely story of coming out of the darkness of abuse of Rose and discovery of love and respect. This book carries some semblance with "Beauty and the beast ", where the beast helps her, respects her, and empowers her. I loved the story, the characters, and the way the author changed the word to fit with the supernatural.
Thank you for the privilege of participating in the ARC reading team! I can hardly wait for the second book of the series!❤️

Fantasy Romance · Dark Romantasy · Slow Burn · Forced Proximity · Found Family · Betrayal · Animal Familiar · Humans, Fae, Shifters, Witches & Magic · "Who Did This to You?" · 1st Person, Dual POV · 18+ / TW

Here comes another beautiful debut 🪄
What a healing love story…💘 I devoured it in one breath...
The writing is smooth, with worldbuilding that unfolds gradually but vividly.
It’s the first book in a series, so there’s clearly more to come.
For romantasy readers who love diving straight into magic - this one takes a slower path. I’d say the book has two distinct acts:
☆ The first, “Before,” leans toward dark romance. It’s set entirely in the human world and follows Rose - her trauma, pain, and the weight of her past and relationships. No magic yet - just raw, emotional groundwork.
☆ Then comes “After” - like a massive golden gate creaks open, and suddenly you’re stepping into an entirely new realm. A magical world that welcomes you to explore, feel, and heal.💫⭐🚀
Rose’s discovery of the truth- about herself and the world around her - comes through a betrayal that cracks her world wide open...
The fantasy side of this universe is so rich - fae politics, shifters, witches, magic, danger. And of course… that dragon shifter 🥵
But the real jewel? The romance.
It’s tender, aching, and full of tension - slow-burn that burns through the pages... It’s full of “I shouldn’t want this” energy that makes every touch, every glance, feel electric. ⚡
The push and pull is perfect - two vulnerable hearts, hyper-aware and hesitant, doing everything they can to resist what’s growing between them. And when the walls finally break? Let’s just say… the wait is very worth it. 😈
Tyr... oh, Tyr. He’s strong and beautiful, and has this painfully beautiful soul. ❤ I was ready to shout my feelings… well, too soon after meeting him 🤭
It would’ve been a full 5-star read for me if only the first part had been shorter...
The dual POV here feels like part of the magic itself.
And if you’re not hooked right away? Keep going. The magic is waiting on the other side 😉
Huge thanks to @booksirens for the ARC - so happy to share my love for this heartfelt, enchanting story! I’m so eager to see what comes next!

"Even dandelions go through concrete cracks to bloom out of the pavement, could I somehow do the same?"

This book is a haunting self-love journey about female strength, resilience, and empowerment with a sprinkling of Beauty and the Beast vibes, a witch best friend, a pet fox, and a dragon tattoo.

The main character, Rose, is a human girl beat down by a string of abusive relationships and the threat of homelessness, trapped in a life and a relationship that she was forced into out of necessity. Her journey, through the book, is one of self discovery and empowerment when she finally finds some space to heal and choose for herself.
Rose- "He doesn't respond, just begins driving, staring straight ahead like I don't exist. Maybe I don't, maybe I let myself become a ghost, an apparition of who I should have never become."

Tyr is a mysterious shape shifting guardian with a protective streak and a golden eyed bestial secret. A lonely and reclusive man that is trapped between two worlds, when his journey collides with Rose's, it changes them both for the better.
Tyr- "What are you doing to me, Rose?"

The best friend you never knew you needed, Sage is an understanding witch with a talent for helping people, whipping up potions, dyeing hair, and ordering pizza. She is the comfort character that you feel like you could you could call up in a time of need and within five minutes she would be on your porch with chocolate, a warm blanket, and some sage wisdom.
Sage- "No one defines your worth but you."

Note: the book deals with some dark and heavy themes — definitely check the trigger warnings before you start.

This story drew me in from the very first page, We follow Rose, who is stuck in a toxic relationship and ends up in the mysterious home of Tyr due to a reckless deal made by her boyfriend. From there, things spiral.

One of the book’s biggest strengths is its worldbuilding. The author does a great job of revealing the world piece by piece, which kept me intrigued without ever feeling overwhelmed. Throughout the story, we encounter shifters, witches, gnomes, and other reaces and each element adds to the richness of the setting.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from the author, and I always feel truly honored when that happens. It also means I go in wanting to love the book — and maybe that raised my expectations a bit too high. While the beginning pulled me in and the ending completely reignited my excitement, there was a portion in the middle that felt a bit slow for me. I can’t quite put my finger on what it was — perhaps the pacing or a slight dip in momentum — but it made that part of the book harder to get through.

Thankfully, the story picked up again toward the end, becoming fast-paced, intense, and thoroughly entertaining. And with that cliffhanger ending? I need the next book immediately!

Built in Embers is an indie, romantasy in a Beauty & the Beast style, Book 1 of 3.

I thoroughly enjoyed book one of Rose and Tyr's story. The writing is strong, and the author gave me plenty of detail to envision the setting and characters. I liked the turn of phrase, highlighting many passages as I read.

The characters are perhaps the best part of the book, as you grow to love or hate them as needed. The personal growth of Rose is satisftying, and I hope she shows up in book 2 as this realized version of herself. She's been through a lot and deserves happiness and safety. Sage, Buddy, & Ham are all fun side characters, who add to the whimsy, warmth, and comedic relief. And Tyr - who had me as soon as he said, "the beast stirred within me." - is the dark icing on the cake.

On the romance side, there is plenty of sexual tension, longing, flirting, and spice. I loved Rose & Tyr's hesitation, the broodiness & shyness, and their desire to take care of each other. As a romance writer, I also appreciate their individual struggles and internal dialogues, which are so important to the story.

Finally, I appreciate that this debur book wasn't 400-600 pages, as many epic dramas seem to be. It's manageable and enjoyable, not daunting. Well-edited, too. I look forward to Book 2 and Rose's determination to be the hero in her story.

I have always loved the idea of magic being just beyond our reach and this beautiful book brought that to life. Not only did the story and plot keep me hooked start to finish, but Rose's healing journey was so good. Rose struggles throughout this book to escape an abusive relationship and to slowly understand her own worth and ability to stand on her own two feet. I felt her reactions to people and events due to her trauma viscerally! More than that, I LOVED the way the author presented healing as a form of strength, and that facing danger head on isn't the only way to be brave. Facing your trauma takes an enormous amount of courage, and even more to actually start healing.

This book healed a piece of me. On top of that, it was well written and I am absolutely clamoring for the next one! Don't even get me started on Tyr. I love a secret cinnamon roll who is dealing with his own struggles but is just the sweetest, and who desperately wants the FMC to find her power and strength, but is willing to be soft and a safe place for her while she does. Definitely one of my favorite male characters in a romantasy right here. Do yourselves a favor and read this one!!

I generally don’t like to read any spoilers, including the trigger warnings for books. I didn’t read it for this book, and was definitely surprised, but only because it was vastly different from what I usually read. Definitely be sure to check the trigger warnings if you have things you can’t/don’t like to read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I could not get enough of Rose's growth from a timid girl into a strong woman and can't wait to see what the next book brings. The fantastical way the real world blends into Vitris was such a breath of fresh air. It's been a while since I've read a book that surprised me like this one did. I'm so excited for the continued world building and to see more of Rose and Tyr!

I initially saw the page count and it was sizeable but not bad, but I flew through this book way faster than I expected. I’m a bit sad now after finishing, and hoping the next book will arrive soon so I can jump back into the story and watch Rose grow.

Built in Embers is an urban fantasy that follows Rose as she discovers a new world while grappling with and navigating through her past trauma. There's a lovely romance with a bit of spice in this first book.

This was such a delight! I fell in love with Rose right off the bat. I was cheering for her the whole time. She deserves the best and I can't wait to see how far she'll come in the next book! And then Tyr is such an amazing guy. I loved seeing his internal struggles but loved that he talked to Rose about them so she understood how he was feeling and why he did certain things at the beginning of their relationship. +100 points for strong communication in the romance! They are just so adorable and I want the best for them ❤️ also the spice was 🔥

The worldbuilding was interesting and I am looking forward to the world expanding in the next books! Oh and Sage is just the best witchy friend. And Ham?? Ham is top tier animal companion.

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

I loved Built in Embers! Rose’s arc is deep and watching her handle her past while discovering a world so much bigger than her own was such a ride. The way Morgan G mixes real-life struggles with fantasy elements is fantastic, and it kept me turning pages well into the night.

Tyr is everything you want in a protector. He's brooding and strong, yet he respected Rose’s boundaries and her healing process. Their slow-burn romance was so lovely, with just the right amount of tension and chemistry. It felt natural and it made every moment they had together build beautifully.

The world-building in this book is fantastic. It’s got magic, fae, and shifters, but it's woven into the story in such a natural way that it never feels overwhelming. There’s a lot of potential here, and I’m so excited to see where the next book takes us. If you're into fantasy and a little bit of spice, Built in Embers is definitely a must-read. Can't wait for book two!

4.5 Rounded up to 5

Watching Rose grow and form relationships was the main focus of this book. Her character was well written and felt realistic in her healing.

The side characters were interesting and added a lot to the story. I'm looking forward to reading book two, not only to get answers to the cliffhanger, but to see more of the worldbuilding that's started in book one. There's a good balance of emotions and healing while working in fantasy aspects. It isn't all one thing or another, it has moderate slow burn spice, magic, and elements of realism. The struggles the characters went through in book one were tough, but I am interested to see how their relationships develop with the change in scenery into the fae realms.

I also hope the author does a spinoff with Sage and her backstory.

Please check your trigger warnings.

Rose has been through so much. Some parts were hard to read. I wanted to cry with her, hug her and be her friend. To let her know that she is worthy of love, respect, friendship, and kindness.

Tyr is unsure about his new companion but his beast immediately wants to protect her and seek out vengeance for all that have hurt her.

I really enjoyed the garden gnomes scene. It was a different take on fantasy/magic that I hadn't read before.

This is a SLOW BURN! I'm glad Tyr made sure that Rose was in the right headspace before things went further with them.

This does end on a cliffhanger.

I do hope in future books that Rose seeks professional help to deal with her trauma.
But, I can't wait to see more of her fire as the series continues. Tyr seems like he will burn the realms down for her. So bring on book #2.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5/5)

This was such a fun fantasy debut that had me pulled in right from the start!
Rose is an amazing FMC, so easy to love and root for, and the author did a wonderful job bringing her world and journey to life. The world-building was unique and really well done. From the setting to the creatures and magic, it was memorable and exciting without being overwhelming. No info-dumping, no overly complicated explanations—just enough to keep me curious and wanting more!
Aside from Rose, Sage totally stole my heart. I seriously wish I could pull her out of the book and steal her away as my new best friend.
The only reason it's not a full five stars is because I just would’ve loved a few more answers before it wrapped up.
But honestly, it was such a great read and I cannot wait for Book 2!

“Built In Embers” was a very entertaining book and I definitely recommend it if you like fantasy, growth out of trauma and romance with a bit of spice.

The FMC is relatable in the different ways past and present trauma affect her and I enjoyed how the situations she faces and the characters she encounters make her confront the trauma and grow and start healing.

I would have loved to have had an Epilogue just to wrap up some issues, even to add more angst to the cliffhanger, but book two might explain why the book cut off where it did.

I was left wanting more, wanting to know what consequences lie after the decisions made but I will need to wait for book two that I will definitely be reading.

I don’t normally read this genre but saw her instagram and was intrigued. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see where the series goes.

The characters were likable, especially Tyr, and watching Rose and him interact made me smile. I liked that he was a strong character but was also sensitive to Rose and her healing journey. Rose goes through such an emotional roller coaster, and seeing her relationships and how they heal her helped combat the darker themes in the book. Buddy is such a nice addition to her little family of sorts, and shows family doesn’t have to be blood related.

This book primarily focuses on the start of Roses emotional journey, but the ending promises more action in book 2. I’m glad I took a chance on this book and plan to continue the series.

This is the first book in a trilogy and ends with a classic first book cliffhanger.
Rose has faced many challenges in her life, with poverty and abuse (pay attention to the trigger warnings) and finds herself a captive of a guardian thanks to her unscrupulous boyfriend. Tyr, the guardian, becomes an unexpected friend and his home, a haven for her to begin healing. And she learns of a world beyond her wildest imaginations.
But Rose is not safe, like she hopes, and the darkness within her seems to be getting stronger, and the more she learns the more mysterious her past becomes. I have so many questions and I am looking forward to the next book.

Built in Embers is a cozy, purposeful blend of emotional growth with a dash of toe-curling spice. We follow Rose's horrors in our urban world until she unveils the fantastical, finding herself a bargaining chip for a broody shifter, a reluctant ally to one sharp-witted witch, and at the mercy of unforgiving fae. While she learns to open her heart in ways she's never known, Rose must face her years of trauma to break free from the ghosts of her past.

This was my first dip into dark romantasy and am counting the days until the next book in this series. Morgan writes with heart and leaves hidden gems between page-turning chapters. I loved the dynamics between characters, as well as the fresh take on both the magic as well as each fantasy race. I can't wait to explore more of this story!

I just finished this and… wow 🤯
You know that rare feeling when a book almost recognizes you? When certain lines hit so close to home you have to stop and catch your breath? That was this one for me.

I saw so much of myself in Rose — her thoughts, her struggles, her quiet defiance. At times it was deeply uncomfortable, other times oddly comforting. But always, always powerful.

This book didn’t just entertain me; it mattered.
And I’m still not over that ending — I need book two immediately.
I loved how the world slowly unfolded — full of potential, danger, and magic. The dual POV really worked and made everything feel so much more layered and emotionally intense. It’s a slow burn in every way, and I loved that.

Easily my top read of the year so far 🐉🗡️

Morgan's debut novel had me hooked from the start. It starts as a contemporary story that progressively twists into a fantastical tale, and I cannot wait to see where the storyline goes and what adventures Rose will encounter along the way, as this first book ends in a cliffhanger (which I love).
This book sets the ground for what I know will become a great adventure, and I am (not so) patiently waiting for that whole MMF situation to unfold. No pressure. It's just that our girl Rose here deserves to be thoroughly loved—she's been through so much already.

P.S.
Ham is the best character, and I hope we'll see even more of his foxy side in the future. <3

This shifter romantasy is a great read, not only for its fantasy, but for how it handles Rose as a survivor of child abuse, abuse and DV. There are also some interesting themes and messages about tr4fficking that come with the Rose being given to Tyr situation.

I think the on page abuse was written in a light that showcases the tenacity of Rose's spirit and the after effects and explains WHY someone may stay and how childhood grooms people to continue to be abused as adults...and most importantly how to find ourselves after. This is very well-written debut, and I can't wait to see how Rose's journey continues!

Seriously I found it hard to put down at any point. Following Rose's struggles and her relationships in life.
Especially her relationship with Tyr, it was amazing, I was totally in favour of it. Also Sage is wonderful and such fun.
As I could see I was getting close to ending I was thinking oh please we need more; I can not say goodbye to them yet.
Hopefully looking at the last page's Hopefully looking like more is to come.
Please Morgan we need more, lots more .
Totally recommend "Built in Embers"

4.5 stars!! I'm not a romance reader but I am a fantasy reader and the world building and fantasy elements in this book are top tier! The antagonist was written so well to be hated but I loved every scene with him- they were gripping and gut wrenching and had me on the edge of my seat. Every glimpse into the fantasy realm was EXQUISITE. I am obsessed. Gorgeous descriptions of settings, compelling plot, great antagonist. It would be a 5 star book if I enjoyed romance but it's definitely the best romantasy I've ever read. I'm excited for the next book!

This book was so much fun! It's like a cross between an urban portal fantasy and a romantic fairytale. With a little spice thrown in, of course! But it really takes you on a rollercoaster! The poor FMC has such a rough backstory but then you get to see her come to life and slowly find her confidence. And Tyr is a total swoon-worthy MMC as he fights his social awkwardness to find ways to make Rose happy. And I'm a total sucker for a sassy friend and adorable animal companion! If you enjoy urban romantasy and don't have triggers around DV, this one should be on your TBR!

In her debut novel, you are transported to the life of Rose. At times the description is almost brutal, so please read the warning. Rose has had more than her fair share of struggles, but does her best to survive. With each new struggle Rose has faced, your heart breaks more and more. How can she continue on this path? It takes hidden strength and a desire not to give up. Rose has that in abundance, she just doesn't see that. I love this journey sooooo much and wish book 2 was ready!

Excellent debut. Be sure to check the trigger warnings as with any book. This was so well written and really touched on the healing journey. what it means to heal and open up once again. I loved the dual POV too. Getting to see both Rose & Tyr's thoughts really showed how healing shows differently.

Prepare for a cliffhanger ending. Eagerly awaiting book 2.

What a ride. Our FMC, Rose, is used as a bargaining chip for trade by her abusive boyfriend. Our MMC, Tyr, is the person she never expected.

In a shifter romance, we are introduced to a world of fae, humans, and witches. We meet and watch Rose work through her trauma, begin to heal, and build confidence. Rose's character development is amazing along with good world-building. The book was easy to read and kept me wanting more.

This book will be part of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger.

The story seemed to abruptly stop, though. I would have enjoyed the overall book more if there was more of a culmination. while leaving the reader craving for me.
