The Wisteria Cottage Witch
A heartwarming cozy fantasy filled with enchanted baking, small-town magic, and the healing power of belonging.

When weary witch Marigold “Mari” Thistlebrook leaves behind the bustle of city sorcery, she hopes to find peace in the sleepy village of Wisteria Hollow. Tucked at the edge of an enchanted forest, her late grandmother’s ivy-covered cottage—and its charming, slightly mischievous cat—seem like the perfect place for a quiet new beginning.

But the village is more magical (and more curious) than Mari expected, and her enchanted bakery quickly becomes the talk of the town. From cinnamon scones that soothe a restless mind to honeycakes that mend broken hearts, Mari’s gentle spells begin to work their way into the hearts of her neighbors—and maybe one grumpy, reclusive fae who tends the woods nearby.

As strange magic stirs in the forest and an ancient ivy tree begins to wither, Mari finds herself at the heart of a mystery that could change Wisteria Hollow forever. To save her new home, she’ll need to trust her magic, open her heart, and discover that the truest spells are woven from love, community, and a pinch of flour.

Perfect for fans of Legends & Lattes, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, and cozy fantasy with a touch of sweet romance, The Wisteria Cottage Witch is a warm and whimsical escape into a world where hearth magic, healing, and hope bloom beneath the wisteria.

Cute and cozy witchy story with pretty descriptions and mental imagery. Love the setting and the home with wisteria, I loved the bakery and reading about the food. An innocent book with a touch of romance.

The story needs some polishing, but this is an indie author so the editing resources aren’t always available.
All in all this was a pretty enjoyable lazy day read, but there were some misses that didn’t have to be missed.
3.5ish stars, I may come back to change this later

🔉📖This one surprised me.. I  had heard nothing at all about it, having come across it scrolling through free audios in prime reading.  It sounded OK to try for my bedtime listen. (I have insomnia)   It surprised me being such a sweet heartfelt cottage core type, I compare it to Spellshop- if you like that, you'll like this one too!

🔮When  witch Mari leaves behind the bustle of city sorcery, she hopes to find peace in the sleepy village of Wisteria Hollow. Tucked at the edge of an enchanted forest, her late grandmother’s ivy-covered cottage—and its charming & mischievous cat, seem like the perfect place for a quiet new beginning.

🔮But the village is more magical (and more curious) than Mari expected. Her enchanted bakery quickly becomes the talk of the town. From cinnamon scones that soothe a restless mind to honey cakes that mend broken hearts, Mari’s gentle spells begin to work their way into the hearts of her neighbors—and maybe one grumpy, reclusive fae who tends the woods nearby.

🔮A strange magic stirs in the forest and an ancient ivy tree begins to wither, Mari finds herself at the heart of a mystery that could change Wisteria Hollow forever. To save her new home, she opens her heart, embarks on a forest journey-- with hints from her grannies journal.  Mari discovers that the truest spells are woven from love.

💥A heartwarming cottage core, whimsical fantasy filled with enchantment, small-town magic, a sweet romance, hope and healing of not only Mari and the townspeople/friends, but also solving the mystery of  the town's enchanted tree (among other things acting peculiarly!)
This story really fills the need of a calming, kind fantasy, when I've read a few too many cringe-type fantasies.  I'd recommend it for all ages!!

Lovely! I love books with witches, Magick, fae, ancient oaks, and cats…..and this book has them all. Even the villagers were, for the most part, charming.

I recommend it and look forward to reading the next one.

Confusing and Inconsistent

I can’t prove this book was written by AI, but I sure hope it was. Grammar, descriptions, and sentence structure were almost too good to be human without an editor. There is no sense of consistency through out the book.

In the prologue we are introduced to the idea that Mari (our female lead) has been in hiding as a witch for years in the city and the city is a modern place. I’m talking mentions of neon signs and sirens, ect. That is almost immediately thrown out. There are no other mentions of modern technology and we are thrust into a world where everyone in town is aware that she is a witch.

We are introduced to Rowan (our male lead) as a fae man who lives outside of town and is wary of humans, but that’s also almost immediately thrown out of the window when the next chapter he’s in town helping Mari and the townspeople. About halfway through the book any mention of being fae is thrown out and he seems to just be a regular guy who grew up in the town and knows Mari from childhood. In fact, he seems actively surprised to see Mari perform any kind of magic later in the book. At one point she mentions that he has moved in not once, but twice. Then in the next chapter he is no where to be found and constantly just wanders off into the night to his own house I guess?

Pandora, her cat, starts off the book with she/her pronouns, spends several chapters in the middle of the book with he/him pronouns, then goes back to she/her pronouns at the end of the book. So I guess this might be the world’s most progressive book since it has a gender fluid cat.

Many of the names and occupations of characters get swapped around throughout the book, the most notable being our main character’s, Marigold Thistlebrook’s, name changing to Marianna Meadowfern during a trial and remaining Marianna Meadowfern throughout that entire trial. Eye colors and descriptions were also constantly changing. Time was wibbly wobbly and explained poorly, there were no mentions of seasons changing but from the perspective of the trial the start of the book and Mari’s move to Wisteria Hollow was at least a year and a half prior.

There are at least 5 events that could have been the main plot of the book and every single one ends in everyone in town clapping and a festival. One of the festivals has the audacity to say that it had been so long since their last festival in the narrative when it was something like 20 pages prior.

At worst this is AI slop. At best someone asked chat gpt for help with phrasing then dropped their manuscript, mixed it all up, and published it as is.
