Penned by Mr Darcy: A Romantic Pride and Prejudice Variation

Rate this book
While staying at Netherfield to care for her ailing sister Jane, Elizabeth Bennet stumbles upon a few charred pages in the library fireplace; pages from an unknown diary detailing an intense and passionate admiration for a mysterious woman. Intrigued, she sets out to uncover both the writer and the object of his affections.

Her search leads her to a surprising discovery; the only gentleman at Netherfield known to keep a journal is the aloof and formidable Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy. Driven by curiosity - and an unfamiliar thrill at the possibility of being the subject of such fervent words - Elizabeth seizes an opportunity to steal the diary.

As she reads his words, her perceptions of him begin to shift, revealing a man far more complex - and far more devoted - than she ever imagined.

With the truth of his feelings laid bare, Elizabeth must decide whether to surrender to what she has discovered or guard her heart against the man whose words have set her soul ablaze.

Penned by Mr Darcy contains open door sex scenes and is suitable for older readers.

When Jane Bennet is taken ill while dining at Netherfield Park, she is forced to take refuge under Mr Bingley's roof.

Her loving sister Elizabeth comes to check on her and finding Jane very unwell, stays to nurse her.

In addition to her worries for Jane, she faces Caroline Bingley's chilly welcome and Fitzwilliam Darcy's haughty arrogance.

When she finds a partially burnt missive in the library fireplace, idle curiosity turns to something more, when she realises that the outpouring of longing and lust may be about her.

When Elizabeth comes across Darcy's diary outside Netherfield, she pockets it.

Burning curiosity overcomes respect for Darcy's privacy.

What she reads, helps her to understand and appreciate the man but will he ever forgive her?

I enjoyed the story, although I kept yelling at her to stop invading his privacy!

An awkward, though passionate Darcy, a flawed but delightful Elizabeth and a seriously intimidating Wickham.

Another pleasing read from Claudia Lomond.

During her stay at Netherfield to nurse her sister Jane Elizabeth finds some half burned pages of a diary. The pages reveal the secret longing of the unknown author for an unknown woman. Elizabeth is fascinated and intrigued and decides to find the author. But when the diary comes into her possession she makes the startling realization: the author is none other than Mr Darcy - and she is the woman he desires.
Each new page reveals that she misjudged Darcy greatly and that he is far more vulnerable than she thought. When she reads his greatest secret she must reflect on how to protect this information.
Will Darcy's diary change Elizabeth's opinion of him? What will Darcy do when he discovers that Elizabeth has found and read his diary? And what about the secret Elizabeth has discovered?

The story was very well written by the author Claudia Lomond. I always enjoy her stories very much and this one was no exception.
At the end the story gets a bit thrilling because a villain enters the stage but it was not overmuch and ODC are able to deal with the situation relatively quickly. Therefore there is no unbearable amount of angst in the story.

I really like that Elizabeth, due to reading Darcy’s diary, is able to comprehend him better. She sees Wickham’s actions on page and his true character is therefore known to her before she ever meets him. Due to this she can, from the very beginning, try to minimize his influence on her sisters.
By reading she also knows about Darcy’s feelings in that matter and about all his dealings with Wickham. She gets an understanding of his way to act, his vulnerability, his helplessness in this situation but also of his kindness. The picture of Darcy is more accurate than anything he could have told her himself because Darcy writes everything down and does not gloss over anything.
On the other hand Elizabeth also gets to know more than Darcy would have told her otherwise. That makes him very vulnerable. I can very well understand his anger at Elizabeth at first. But reading Darcy's diary also makes Elizabeth aware of his feelings for her without him needing to tell her and properly making a mess of it. Therefore he is spared the trouble of an ill formulated proposal and running away from his feelings doesn’t work any more 😉.

I really liked Darcy in this variation. He was reserved as ever but also honest to a fault, even with his feelings. He writes everything down in his diary, even feelings he thinks are inappropriate. When Elizabeth is aware of them because she read the diary he does not hide them, he acts on them. Maybe it’s also an act of desperation but due to this and his strong feelings for Elizabeth they are able to form a deep bond.
I also like that Darcy is not excessively long angry at Elizabeth but he tries to make the best of this situation. He trusts Elizabeth that she will not reveal the secret of Ramsgate and he also trusts her that she will not mock him for his feelings written down in his diary. With her feelings awakened for him they are therefore quickly able to come to an understanding about their feelings and how they are received.

I like the passion between Darcy and Elizabeth in this story. Darcy feels passion for Elizabeth from nearly the first moment of their acquaintance. Elizabeth, on her part, is captivated about the passion she reads from an unknown author about an unknown lady. Once she discovers that it is from Darcy and about herself, her feelings are even more inflamed. When they are together after the revelation that Elizabeth knows about his innermost thoughts they also act on their passion and a really beautiful moment between them is created (I like their encounter on the fields so very much).

There is one big villain in the story. This villain does not try to come between ODC but they try to take advantage over a situation for their benefit. Fortunately they are not successful and their actions do not harm the relationship of ODC.

If you like to know how reading Darcy's secret diary will change Elizabeth's opinion of him you should definitely read this excellent book.

I highly recommend it.

The book is for a mature audience only.

I loved it!

Warning: Meant for mature audiences. Contains scenes that would scandalize the ton. Readers of a delicate constitution are advised to keep their fans and vinaigrettes close at hand. Contains strong adult language and sex. There are also brief mentions of canonical underage grooming relationships (Georgiana/Wickham Lydia/Wickham), and the presence of weapons.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is part of the ‘… By Mr Darcy’ series. This is a sensual re-imagining of Austen’s classic, blending emotional depth, slow-burn tension, and open-door intimacy. Elizabeth thought she knew Mr Darcy, until she read the words he never meant her to see.

When Elizabeth Bennet arrives at Netherfield to tend to her ailing sister, she expects cold civility from Miss Bingley, quiet concern from Mr Bingley, and the continued arrogance of Mr Darcy. What she does not expect is to uncover a half-burned confession in the embers of the library hearth, a letter seared with longing, full of intimate, tormented desire for a woman unnamed. Elizabeth cannot help but wonder who wrote it, and whom does he desire so fervently? Her search begins with playful curiosity, but as she probes deeper, observing glances at dinner, sudden silences, and the restrained intensity in Darcy’s presence, a startling realisation forms, she hopes that the woman is her.

Torn between fascination and propriety, the diary falls into her possession, and she has no intention of returning it. Each secret entry reveals a man far more vulnerable, and far more desperate, than the proud gentleman she thought she knew, but her discovery comes at a cost, for in the book's pages, another secret is revealed, one involving Mr Wickham, Miss Darcy and the man whose soul she now holds in her hands. As desire and duty war within her, Elizabeth must understand her own feelings, and accept the fact that Mr Darcy may never forgive her. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

I very much enjoyed Penned by Mr Darcy. It was an emotional read, since it delves into Mr Darcy's deepest thoughts about the events at Ramsgate and Netherfield, while Elizabeth was there tending to Jane. Elizabeth finds Darcy's diary and is very curious about the man, whose character puzzles her exceedingly. Elizabeth, instead of returning it immediately, is tempted and decides to read it. She discovers an honorable an passionate man who cares deeply about his sister and to her amazement, she finds out that he is also very much attracted to her, and her presence consumes his thoughts. I loved Darcy in this story. He is very vulnerable emotionally after Ramsgate and Elizabeth's presence in Netherfield makes him feel he is losing control. Elizabeth is lovely in this novella. She is sweet and brave and I also liked Bingley, who does not yield to his friend and sisters' pressure to leave Jane.

While looking after her sister Jane at Netherfield after she has fallen ill, Elizabeth comes across some pages from a diary in the hearth that haven't burnt. Reading the words leaves her wanting to find out who it relates to and who wrote it. With her suspicions growing, when Darcy's diary comes into her possession, she discovers more about the man she is starting to fall for and also a scandalous secret involving Mr Wickham. A gripping story that is full of drama and suspense that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Darcy's Darkest Inner Thoughts? Yes, Please!

Another Win for Claudia Lomond!

Our tall, dark and handsome Mr Darcy's silent brooding is brought into a whole new light when Elizabeth Bennet stumbles upon a page from his Diary.

It was romantic, it was witty and it was so steamy I think my poor fan is worn out!

Neither of them seem similar in any way to canon. P&P dialogues are rewritten badly for no reason. D & E barely even interact but somehow Darcy is in love (eventhough he claimed it was only lust only few pages ago. Dialogues between E & D feel as though they are AI generated. Im now seeing that ive written similarly about another book my the same author.

I quite enjoyed this - even though Elizabeth was less sympathetic than you normally see in JAFF. It seemed a more honest and less biased view of her. Darcy on the other hand was more self aware than in canon. A little more licentious than Jane Austen portrayed but believable.

I just finished Penned by Mr. Darcy. I went into it with high hopes and expectations, but it ended up feeling underwhelming. It wasn’t terrible, just rather mediocre. Out of generosity, I’m rating it 3 stars.

The story was well put together. I don't mind a little steam but I really don't like bad language. I am not quite twinset and pearls but almost.
I found nothing romantic I skipped most of it .

Beautiful story

Some editing is needed to make it a 5 star. There are typos, erroneous error and even character confusion.

The story is enjoyable nevetherless. Perfect for those who prefer a variation that doesn't stick to canon.

I loved this book, as I have all of this author's novels. Elizabeth Bennet finds Mr Darcy's diary and, through reading it, comes to a better understanding of him. And the ending was just swoonworthy!

A lovely loving perspective

Mr Darcy has a secret diary... secret that is, until he accidentally leaves some unburned pages in the library grate.
