Mercury’s Crypt is a hero's journey about a young necromancer named Mika. She is chosen to become the next Channeler in her lineage, to take up a ritual that opens the veil between the world of the living and the dead. When Mika performs the ritual, the spirits of the dead begin to possess those from her village.
Mika must discover the cause of the possessions. She will have to use the powers of her birthright and journey through the Land of the Dead to save her village.
Mercury's Crypt is a new take on the tried-and-true hero's journey that we all know and love. In under 100 pages, E. A. Logan delivered a dynamite tale that had imagery, poetic prose, peril, action, seeds of deep wisdom, and heavy emotion.
Mika, the protagonist, is a hero you can't help but root for. She is thrust into a world of heavy responsibility, and with little guidance from her predecessors, has to make several hard choices and save her very world. It was dynamic, and very fun to read.
I'm always a little jealous of authors who can tell short stories this well. The last short story I tried to write ended up being 300+ pages. If you're looking for a story that hits hard, delivers the thrills quickly, and still leaves you feeling satisfied in the end, Mercury's Crypt is for you.
