OMG!! I’m dead. 😵 Kill me now!! I need the next book stat!! Debbie (me openly shaking my fist at the sky) Leela!! She’s come into her own and the story just flies off the page!! The slow burn hurt so good. Phew Araz. So much longing!! The cliffhanger though.. refuse, like always to give too much away!! Get your hands on this book. I’m going to go stare at the wall and think about what I just read. Bravo Debbie!! You genius!!
Grab this book, clear your schedule and settle in! Okay, this book picks up where the last left off. It's a bit of a slow start, but the deeper you get into the story the more it picks up. Be prepared you will not want to stop for anything. Leela is royalty. What?! Cue jaw-drop, raving, the whole nine yards. This means big things for our girl, but what we don't know is the obstacles ahead. This is not a game. LOL! The Authority has apparently held power too long and they are more than reluctant to let it go...or is it one individual in particular...probably, but where there's one...there's two. So watch out. Get ready for new characters, new drama, and the romance to intensify. Try as she might Leela and Araz are getting closer and this only furthers to complicate things between them. What to do...what to do. There is one new character that enters this story that we are immediately wary of. Why? Well, they are a lone survivor of a trial. As the story progresses...we waffle a little on whether to give him a chance or not...but there's one scene...that consideration...out the window!!! Period. Nope! No take backs. LOL! The ending? Yeah...just yowl. Yowl away and we'll be right there with you. When does book 3 come out again? LOL! We need it. NOW!
I was getting bored and started skipping, a lot. Nothing was happening.
We've shifted from Leela simply wanting to ascend, to her suddenly knowing better than beings who've lived in this world for centuries. How about getting to know and understanding what's going on and why, before putting your earth values forward. We are most definitely not winning any awards, we are "fixing" others now?
Leela and Araz are losing any points towards relationship goals. I was getting embarrassed on Leelas behalf, if a man doesn't want you, leave it alone!! Stop throwing yourself at him. It's not interesting anymore.
Blue is suddenly sounding more Scottish (or whatever the heck that's supposed to be) by the day eeeerrrrmm what the what now? More new words being thrown at us.. I lost any and all interest hence the skipping.
Just hmmmm book 1 had a bit more focused control. This is taking off on a tangent. I don't know if these words are made up, or actually part of a language but I think if you can follow without having to keep referring to the glossary every page, this may be a more palatable read.
Simply because I'm pedantic, enough descriptions about roads/walk ways/bridges/(you get my gist) it's was boring to read. Most definitely didn't help the world build... For me!
I'm enjoying this series a lot. I like how the author ties in Indian mythology in this series. The plot thickens in this book especially with the Authority. I wish the author would put a list of characters in the beginning since there are so many characters plus the addition of new ones in this book. The ending of this book has one heck of a plot twist that I am ready for. Can't wait for book 3.
Warning! Warning!! Kindle throwing may follow the ending of this book....
Leela is back and more confused than ever!! First off she is of a certain bloodline that makes her royal!! OMG!!! Now the trials she faces to become an ascended god are now also trials for the throne but also life or death obstacles!!! Because they don't want her to ascend and obtain her birthright!!! They want to snuff out her flame before that happens and they remain in power!!! But they forgot one thing... or one person I should say!!! Her Drohi, Araz!!! He may not be able to be with Leela but he will defend her to his last breath... which may happen sooner than they both think!!! And the cliffhanger at the end of this... yeah I was soooo close to throwing my kindle because that ending was hangover worthy!! Now I NEED book 3 to find out what happens next!!!
When the first thing you read is, "Nani always emphasized the importance of clean underwear when leaving the house, in case an accident landed me in the hospital. God forbid they saw my dirty knickers. I guess it was her way of saying expect the unexpected…" you just KNOW it's going to be a page turner! And it was... exactly as book 1 was, I was totally, utterly, completely immersed! I was plunged straight into the cliffhanger at the end of the last book and OMG what a turn! Ms Cassidy throws all her weight in from the onset, just so I'm hanging on by a thread, with the pounding in my head, my ears, my frigging veins like a drum concerto!
Oh do I love the loyalty Leela has awakened in her demigod peers! All in the same boat, snatched from their lives and worlds to attain something higher, something more. But it's a deadly existence. The gods have manipulated everything, the gods are omnipotent, the gods are NOT benevolent. And Leela, well... she's a major threat! Now things become more complicated... It's evident the Authority wants her to fail, to fall during a trail, they manipulate, they scheme, they frigging outdo themselves to end her, but she's stronger than they thought. She's a fighter, she has an endgame and her endgame is a betterment for all, to free Azaz from forced servitude, to set the souls of her Nani and Pashim, to end the cruelty of the gods. Leela is just amazing, her strength, her natural charm, her genuineness wins over even those who were out to get her. I adored the sense of family surrounded her, I adored the complexity of her relationship with Azaz, I understood her, I understood him, I cried with them both for the situation they were in.
I adore how Debbie brings in light humourous banter, when I least expect it. Like Blue, Leela's familiar, as Leela aptly said, "he was a whirlwind of confidence and witty remarks". Most times he opens his mouth, I'm giggling, he defuses the tension instantly, like in a very uncertain and dramatic scene, this escapes from him, "oh for f@ksake, you're acting as though she's doomed. If Sex on a Stick says he can keep her safe, then I trust him". Sex on a Stick would be the gorgeous Araz, a character so complex, his layers have layers! The depth of his soul and who he is, is buried under this mountain. The heat he exudes for Leela set ME aflame, it was extreme, it was raw, it was oh so igniting! What Leela and Azaz share is so much more than the bond forced on them. It's a rare combination of, he'll, EVERYTHING that makes a relationship beautiful, everything that makes a relationship special and it's one they can't act on.
It takes great skill to fully allow a reader to embrace the characters of a book, Ms Cassidy has an abundance, she presents nuances in her characters that are so easy to distinguish, so easy to embrace, so easy to understand. Leela is a prime example, Azaz got it in one "Leela is soft, she is NOT weak. There is a quiet strength inside her. Justice runs in her veins. Honour rides her every breath." Taken from her world, learning that she is MORE than she thought she was, forced to undergo trials, trying to navigate a perilous world where the corruption, especially by the Authority, is so vastly entrenched, their methods beyond despicable and Leela is adamant she'll put a stop to it all, she'll make sure that everyone has true freedom. But, to do that, she has to undergo the trials and good glory, Ms Cassidy had me writhing in panic with, well heck, so flipping much! The air trials almost plunged me into despair...and then I was soaring in delight because...well...Pakshiraj, totally awesome! THAT'S what this author does, she gives with one hand and slaps with the other! Her storytelling is simply outstanding, I loved the two extra POVs, albeit not often, but just catching a glimpse of Azaz's and Blue's thoughts was enough to sate me. Be still my heart at the beauty of this passionate love, be still my heart for all the action that nearly ended ME!
The slow burn was at times sooooo frustrating, I wanted to shout "GET IT ON ALREADY!" but there's a reason this very capable author does the teasing, no, not to torture us, although... there IS that too...but to offer up the complexity that happens in a person's mind, which she handles superbly, expertly and extremely eloquently. This author took control of my spirit, my soul, my heart, my emotions, and toyed with them. She twisted me up so badly, I didn't know my a@se from my elbow, she twisted a knife each time she uped the ante and frek, she did that with each subsequent page I read! By the time I was near the end of the book, I was emotionally drained, I was in anguish, I was in awe at Ms Cassidy's abilities. And that was BEFORE Leela entered the labyrinth! This is one of those reads that sent me into a mind spin, it's beautifully layered and gorgeously complex and off the charts riveting! The ending, OMG, the ending! If you heard someone yell "NOOOOOO!!!!" ,that was me ..Debbie Cassidy is, well, she's the Queen of cliffhangers!!! So, yes, you got it, I NEED THE NEXT BOOK!!!
I debated on a 4 or a 5 for this one so i’ma go 4.5 and round up. And here’s why…
DAMNIT, DEBBIE! Your cliffhangers are the best and worst, woman! Just kidding. I never lower a rating for a cliffhanger, because that’s silly. I actually LOVED the cliffhanger! The last 20th percent of this book was my favorite part! I am not one for delayed gratification, let me tell you… but the end of this one was VERY satisfying albeit suuuuuper “NOOOOOO! I need the rest NOW!” I definitely got taken by surprise. I usually figure things out and I did not see this coming. 5 stars for crazy mind that can create this type of work … because as a long time fan, I KNOW she’ll pull it all together. And I’m along for this ride. Even though it’s un-aliving me.
Now, the first 80% was a continuation of the mystery, world-building, relationship-establishing, trial-taking, higher-ups-betrayal-ing, tension-mounting Debbie Cassidy that we’ve come to expect and that she excels at. Tons of bumps in the road, hints at what’s to come, frustrating slow burn. The tension between MCs was tensioning, (sorry for all the -ings) and it’s definitely a cleaner spice than some other of her works. I wanted to knock their heads together and tell them to cut the crap, already. There’s some heat, some brief spice that is lovely and emotive and not at all dirty (but I kinda wanted some Fire Daddy dirty talk, I mean come on! Araz could be way more growly and naughty, please. Oooh maybe an outtake or bonus chapter? I’ma ask!)
Some of the “bumps” ended quickly without resolution-just teasers, really- or enough of a build up, but I feel like if she wanted to, Debbie Cassidy’s mind could have made this way too long otherwise. So it feels like “I wanna get this in without making it 700 pages and there are a bazillion upcoming things to drop hints at.”
So -.5 for the twists and tuns and betrayals/ grrrrr moments of the action getting done too quickly to get that “Wow, that was a real struggle” feel. I’m not sure if I wanted more detail, and less twists, or for the “twists” to be less twisty.. not sure. This is why I read and don’t write. I couldn’t pull this shit off like Debbie Cassidy does.

This book did not disappoint. This is turning into an amazing series. We pick up from the end of the first book with the POV starting with Araz watching Leela and how he is feeling from the revelation that she is royal and now possibly his enemy. I loved getting a chance to see a lot of this book from his POV as I feel it really gives depth and insight to his character. I love when authors give us this so that we can get more depth to our characters and not just the one side of from the main character POV. Again I just loved Blue he is such a great addition and love his unfiltered chatter and unapologetic flirting he throws at Araz. This book had me really starting to love Araz where in the last book I wish he would just get over his issues and stop being a jerk. This book it’s more of a “stop letting your head get in the way of feelings” but he’s getting there. The end of this book had like some really big moments for me that I was just shocked or got me emotional. The ending though was such a cliffhanger on top of a cliffhanger though. Like I don’t know if I have ever read anything that has stacked the cliffhangers like that and just made it work so well. Now I’m just anxiously waiting to see what happens in the next book. I absolutely recommend this book and say it is worth the read. You do not need an understanding of the background in Hindu mythology to love this book. The author is such a great writer that everything conveys well and the world just sucks you in and it feels like home. It is definitely up in my top three reads right now and I think it might be in the list of new favorite series. It is just THAT good
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book picked up right where the last one left off. There were a few small time skips, which were perfectly handled by splitting the book into 'parts' for each one. I wasn't sure at first why they were needed, but it made a lot of sense with the time skips, so an excellent decision on the author's part.
The way this book was chugging along and then absolutely screamed toward the finish was INSANE. The last half of the book especially I was like "wait...I figured that'd be in the next book! And the next! Talk about accelerated..." BUT I want to assure you that the book DIDN'T feel rushed. (Just the character, poor thing!)
I absolutely adored everything about Leela and Araz's relationship in this book. There was some foreshadowing that I can't wait to see how it plays out... though I was so focused on that that the twist at the end of this book caught me TOTALLY off-guard. Holy bananas!!! I was about shrieking the whole last couple of chapters, much to my husband's amusement as he came to bed and I was nearly hyperventilating over a book, lol. (Don't worry, I told him he has to read the series now so he can understand!!)
As always, Debbie is an absolute master of the craft with no equal that I've ever found. The spice? Fabulous, but man, the characters and world building always blow my mind (thank goodness I don't have to completely follow all of that to enjoy the books, because I could never!!!). And the descriptions are perfection—well done, nothing overused, and with a unique and consistent voice.
Don't miss out on another work from the author who has no equal!
This series is going to kill me with anticipation! Debbie Cassidy is an absolutely genius with these types of books, and I absolutely loved it…. Except for the ending cause now I’m going to be biting my nails waiting until the next book comes out wanting to know what happens!!!
This book is the 2nd in the Labyrinth of Gods series. Leela is still reeling over the loss of Pashim, she is determined to continue fighting for her place amongst the demigods. Now that she is discovered to be a Royal, the Authority tries to make things even more difficult for her by giving her tasks that she is bound to fail, but when she doesn’t, they keep trying to take her down. She and Araz keep growing closer, but with the promise she made him of freedom, she can’t cross that line. And Blue…. I love that rat (never thought I would say that... EVER).
This book had so many twists and turns and ups and downs… By the end, I was spinning out of control (in a VERY good way) trying to anticipate what would happen next (and being wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME). I laughed, I cried, I screamed, and I died a little when things happened within this book. I couldn’t put the dang thing down – it was THAT good. Those last 2 chapters though??? OMG WHY??!?!?! Lol I almost have to wonder if instead of this being a more MF romantasy, that Leela ends up with multiples (Pashim coming back, Araz, the primordial evil?, Guru Chandra possibly – the choices are endless here!). I can’t wait to find out – this series is definitely a MUST READ!!!
Debbie Cassidy has once again woven a story that blends the brutality of gods with the fragility of the human heart. In Damned & Broken Gods, the second installment of the Labyrinth of Gods series, the stakes soar higher than ever. The heroine is reeling from loss, yet her journey forces her to step into power she never asked for. What I loved most was how Cassidy balanced the weight of grief with the fire of determination—it made every choice feel razor-sharp and real. The world itself is breathtaking: lush, dangerous, and layered with divine politics and ancient rivalries. Every turn of the page revealed another secret, another betrayal, another moment that made my heart clench. And then there’s Araz—loyal, torn, and impossible not to root for. The tension between him and our heroine isn’t just romantic; it’s deeply emotional, testing the boundaries of trust, destiny, and desire. This isn’t a lighthearted fantasy—Cassidy delivers a story that hurts in all the best ways. The heartbreak is devastating, but it’s that very pain that makes the moments of hope and connection shine even brighter. If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that pulls no punches, that leaves you aching while still desperate for more, Damned & Broken Gods is exactly the book you need. Debbie Cassidy has crafted a tale that is as beautifully haunting as it is utterly addictive.
Preface: This review is my opinion only. Yours may be different. Neither is wrong and that's ok.
So as you could probably see from the title of the book, this is the second in the Labyrinth of Gods series. It is really recommended you read book 1 first, as the story continues on from book 1, and comments on things learnt in it.
I had thoroughly enjoyed book 1, and couldn't wait for me (pre)order of book 2 to arrive on my kindle. I promised myself I would only read the first chapter or two before sleep, but before I knew it I had devoured the book from start to finish and dawn was breaking.
The spice is still low, and the relationship is slowly heating. You do still want to slap the stupid out of both of them now and then but you can also see both points of view. Out of a 5 spice rating, I would rank it maybe 1. This is on par with Ms Cassidy's 5 book series books, where by book 5 the spice is usually about a 3.
Fingers crossed this too will be a 5 book series, as the story so far is amazing and I don't want it to end too soon.
As Blue is one of my favourite characters, I am pleased to see he also has a storyline that is further uncovered in book 2.
I would talk more about other characters, but with so many spoilers possible, and i hate reading reviews that say it's spoiler-free then give away farm more than the reviewer probably realises.
Do you ever read one of those books that's so good, you want to recommend it to everyone, but then you feel bad for doing it because waiting for the next one is pure torture? Cassidy is the queen of cliffhangers that you don't mind hanging from.
After the last shocking cliffhanger in book one, Leela’s life drastically changes. What doesn’t change? The super-hot fire burning between Leela and Araz, and the never-ending “why won’t they?!” Of course, there’s an increased risk for both of them this time around, but it’s not going to change readers’ minds AT ALL about whether they should throw caution to the wind. The need for them to do so only gets stronger.
Thankfully, with Leela’s big life change (which I won’t specify in case you haven’t read book one), the most important thing that doesn’t change is Leela herself and what’s important to her. Instead, there’s just added pressure from new potential competition in the tests during her training, a few people that are hard to figure out if they’re going to be friends or enemies, and a huge heaping of political pressure. All of this on top of just trying not to die during all the crazy tests she and her friends are put through.
I thought book one was awesome. Book two is even better. Book three? I have a feeling we’re all going to need to buckle up and hold on tight for one incredibly dangerous ride!
I ARC read book one in this series and absolutely LOVED it, so when the opportunity to ARC read book two came up I just couldn't say no!! It's a fantastic sequel, building on the world and answering so many questions whilst giving me so many more!! The worldbuilding expanded beautifully, and I adored going to some new places with our favourite characters.
We jump in right where we left off in book one, and the pace never slows. With Leela having a claim to the currently unclaimed throne, The Authority don't want her to take away her power - ok putting her and her friends in danger. Leela comes to accept her position and the good she can do with it, and we see her really grow throughout the story.
The found family in this story is everything, and I really felt connected to each and every character. The slow burn romance is amazingly done too - the tension was FANTASTIC and I felt like I could barely breathe at some points!!
I have to give a shout out to Blue, who is absolutely my favourite character. Our lovable animal companion is so so funny, and equally melts my heart with his care for Leela. The ending of this book had my jaw on the floor, and I need book three in my life as soon as possible!!!
First of all ... how dare you make me cry so much?!
Damned and Broken Gods It's the second book in the Labyrinth of Gods series, and this is exactly how I feel: broken! I can barely find the words to describe this book; it tore my heart out and also gave me hope. Leela has to navigate this crazy world, fight against evil creatures who want her gone, and fight against her really strong feelings towards her drohi and the grief in her soul. I love Blue so, so much! and I love the way he fights for his and the other anchors' rights ... He is definitely a part of Leela, who also can't stand to see someone being treated unfairly. I swear she has the purest soul! And Araz...oh, Araz... Just added one more thing on Leela's long "to do" list. I liked the way he changed in this book ... He finally understood that there is a different way to get what he wants without hurting Leela...too much. Just like with all the other book written by Debbie, there isn't a thing that I didnt like apart from the ton of tears I spilled while reading. There is a bit of spice, so I recommend this book with all my heart to all readers 16+. If you want a break from the real world, this is the book for you! ❤️
Let me tell you, the way I cursed this book, and how quickly the last page came. I was not prepared. I spent a good 10-15 seconds trying to turn a page that was, in fact, not there. Then a good minute in denial that I didn’t have the next book to start right away. Leela and Araz’s story flows so well, it’s like you’re listening to a story instead of reading it. And the chemistry between them is palpable. I’m both living and dying for the push and pull of their relationship, and the flip flop between what is essentially business partners, and what is substantially more. I started this series disliking Araz, but now I can’t help but empathize with him and understand his side of things. I also went into this having such sympathy, and a soft spot for Vick. But now I genuinely dislike him. His actions have turned him into someone who is, in my eyes, no longer deserving of pity or empathy. All that aside, the ending of this book just about gutted me. I couldn’t start another book for days because I was so hung up on NEEDING to know what happens next, and needing to know how the ending of this book pans out. So, to say I’m impatient for the next book MAY be an understatement. I’m excited to see where the story goes next.
Into book 2, and it turns out Leela is of royal blood and in line to the throne. But the ruling Authority isn't too happy about giving up control so are going to make it as difficult as they can for her to ascend and claim her title as Queen.
Leela has enemies coming after her in this book but also has allies in the form of the friends she had previously made, Blue her anchor and Guru Chandra. Also Araz has finally come around and is on her side as they now have a deal. She will need all of them to survive the trials she has to face.
There are a number of trials she has to face, some alone and some as a group. They are told they will not all return from the trials and I did cry at the events of one of these. This book is totally absorbing which is why I am writing this review at 4 in the morning after being incapable of putting this book down till the final page.
Now that ending. Although a bit of a cliffhanger, I actually really liked it. After all the emotional turmoil of the chapters leading up to it I actually did smile at the very last chapter. It was totally unexpected though but i have learnt with this author to expect the unexpected! Now I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
From the very first line, I knew this book was going to be a page-turner, and it absolutely was. Just like book one, I was completely immersed. Debbie Cassidy drops you straight into the aftermath of the cliffhanger and doesn’t let go. The pace, the intensity, the sheer tension—it had my heart racing. Leela has quickly become one of my favorite heroines. She’s loyal, strong, and determined to fight against the gods and the corrupt Authority, no matter the cost. She’s not just fighting for herself, but for Azaz, for her family, and for freedom itself. I loved her courage, her natural charm, and the way she wins people over with her heart. The banter and humor lighten the darkness perfectly, especially from Blue, her familiar, who had me laughing even in the tensest moments. And then there’s Araz—layers upon layers, smoldering heat, and raw intensity. The slow burn between him and Leela was torture, but in the best way. The worldbuilding is incredible, the trials had me on edge, and the emotional depth of every character shone through. Cassidy balances action, heartbreak, romance, and humor beautifully. And that ending… let’s just say she’s still the queen of cliffhangers. I need the next book now!
First off, let me just get started by saying I love a good map in the beginning of the book… And good gravy thank you for the index with all of the descriptions of items and names used in the book. 💖
I had such a love hate relationship with the first book that I was looking by forward to and dreading the second book because of the emotional rollercoaster the author has taken me on with this series already…with that being said, I was just as enraptured with this book as I was with book 1 & I finished it in less than a day. I think some of my favorite parts of this book are Blue’s chapters, I love that fuzzy little anchor and his mouthy af ways. This back and forth is so irritating but I understand why Leela and Araz have this going on…I just wish it wasn’t so difficult for them to be together…
I hate how invested I get in these characters because this author keeps killing off my favorites…the last 10% of this book had me yelling at my phone…like what in the holy hey is going on over here, I’m devastated and sobbing for one thing but happily sobbing over the last 1% of the book…talk about an emotional rollercoaster… idk if the third book is going to be the last but I’m extremely excited to see what these characters are up to in the next book
Gripping, can't wait for the next one! Please don't read this review if you haven't read the first book yet. This is book 2 of a series and it needs to be read in order to follow the story. So much action in this book, I couldn't put it down. And, in true Debbie Cassidy fashion, we end on a cliffhanger at the end. I hope this series is only three books because I don't know how many more cliffies I can handle. But our girl, Leela, shows her heart to her friends by staying true to herself, even with everything on the line. She befriends everyone, and proves herself to those that doubt her. Leela is a royal. She's the next Queen, but first she needs to meet the Authority who will determine if she can take the throne immediately, or if she will be required to go through the trials. One of the most important parts of the trials, she and Araz need to stay just friends since they know they will have to go their separate ways - but it is becoming harder and harder as their feelings grow. The Authority continue to try to ensure Leela doesn't make it to the end, making Araz's job even more difficult, and in the Labyrinth, he will do anything to ensure she survives.
Damned and Broken Gods: Labyrinth of Gods Book 2 by Debbie Cassidy is a perfect continuation of Leela's story as she struggles to ascend and become a god despite everything the authority throws at her trying to ensure she doesn't make it. This book is filled with more to be revealed vibes. I feel like we're getting closer to the truth and can't wait for the reveal! I enjoyed watching Leela make new friends and her relationship with Araz change as they both seem to fight the inevitable. The world-building in this book was just as great as the first with new friends, creatures, and monsters. How far will the authority go to ensure she never takes the throne? Can Araz and Leela find a middle ground despite everything in their way? So much happens in this book, but despite the fast pace, there are moments where it feels like time slows and Leela and Araz get their moments.
This book includes forced proximity, found family, slow burn that heats up a little, with low-heat, and a couple that puts duty over desire. If you enjoy these themes, then Damned and Broken Gods is a must-read!
this was everything. somehow this beat the first book, everything about this was scorching. the yearning, the side characters, the development of the world into places we’d only been told about.
BLUE. perspectives from blue… (though what did happen to madame spider????) and everything in between.
this was the slowest of slow burns, and usually i’d be craving for more but this book just has the complete perfect balance, there is enough to keep us on our toes but the depth of the fantasy world grounds everything.
i love how leela isn’t rushed into developing before she’s ready - it’s a realistic time cycle.
the ONLY complaint i’d have for this book (and this is really trying to grasp something) is i’d love for grief to be spoken about more, what she misses about the mortal realm, things she’s lost, i feel like that would’ve just made everything perfect. not dwelling but acknowledging.
i loved the creativity of using the mythology, the foreign concepts of some of this history truly made this book so much more incredible because i was forced to open my mind to the world that has been created. this book cannot was a league of its own.
This picks up right where book one ended. There’s now a slight problem with Leela and Araz’s plan they made. Of course Leela doesn’t see a problem with it, now she believes the plan would be even easier to achieve. Araz… not so much.
We get to see more of this world Debbie has created which was fun! There’s more tests she needs to take. We meet new characters. One of which, I didn’t like right away and still don’t like this person. There’s something about him…
Araz and Leela get closer in this book. They become friends and they may or may not cross that friend zone. Who knows.
There are so many little things that happen or are said that give me pause. I have to sit and think about it. Figure out if it’s part of the whole story (which knowing Debbie, it is) and it honestly made me go a bit crazy with my theories. Love that her writing gets me feeling crazy though!!! definitely a sign of a good writer. That’s one thing I love about all her books. She gets me thinking with her little hints/foreshadowing. You’d think it’s nothing, maybe filler text but, it never is. There’s always a reason for every word in her books. Now, I’m biting my nails wondering what it could all mean.
The end of the book: *takes time to breathe and clam down so I don’t go all HAHDUDNENHEYBDNSOEHXBANWOEUDBXBNZZZZZZZHSUDHDBBDBDBDJJSIWNSBDBDNXNXJJDJSNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!HBSUSOSBDHDBNMLPAOAKWNSBXJDJSNS!!!! In this*
That ending!!!! Grrrrrr. Okay, stay calm. Oof that cliff really got me. It was a doozy. I’m honestly upset but I know it’ll all work out. It always does. But grrrrrr.
OMG...!!! The Queen of Cliffhangers strikes again, not only did she have me in her coils like a snake holds there prey before striking, she had me wanting an amazing ending. Well Miss Cassidy didn't disappoint me. I was held captive in Damned and Broken Gods pages until the very end. I feel as if I were pulled through the wringers backwards and still wanting more. I love how Leela came into her new world strong and complete and wanting peace for her friends. She succeeded to overcome every obstacle that was thrown at her and still tested till the very end. I agree with how she believes that groups of people be it they be of a different race should be free to make their own choice and treated with respect. I loved how Araz was strong for the FMC when she needed him to be and was there when she needed him the most. The ending did me in, I didn't see it coming and now I greave like Leela as her world shatters. So, if you enjoy a Strong FMC, Grumpy Sunshine MMC, Slow Burn and surprising endings that you will enjoy this series.
This is book 2 and continues where book 1 left off.
Leela continues to train for her trials but now that the Authority have an invested interest in her future, they have started to try and influence some of the trials.
Araz and Leela are both trying so hard to resist the chemistry between them but it's getting harder and harder. I personally haven't forgiven him for what happened in book 1 so I'm not feeling too sorry for him just yet!
I have to say that Blue was a bit hit and miss with me, his personality just didn't fit a rat in my mind, but I did enjoy his conversations with Leela.
Leela has managed to surround herself with a found family of sorts and this is helping her to adapt to this new environment.
As always in Debbie's books the world-building is detailed and well planned out. It might be an age thing for me but I did struggle to keep track of everything so I had to make notes as the book progressed. There is a handy glossary at the beginning of the book though to help you out.
Another cliffhanger ready for book 3..... looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
“Ah, for fucksake,” Blue snaps. “You actin’ like she’s doomed. If Sex on a Stick says ee can keep ’er safe, then I trust ’im.”
Well, if you are reading this review, you most likely will have read Lost And Stolen Gods book one in the new highly anticipated Labyrinth of Gods series by Debbie Cassidy so my open line by Blue just solidifies that I absolutely adored this anchor and am hoping that we are going to get to know the other anchors a bit more and maybe even get their POV.
We got some questions answered in the second book, but I feel that we have been strategically left in the dark, and all will be revealed as we progress into the series.
This is slow burn, and at times, I just wanted things to speed up a little . But boy, when things started happening, left right and center, I knew that this author had once again ensnared me in this new captivating world.
So what are you waiting for? Start reading
“Liar,” he said. “Bet you were too busy ogling Pecs of Perfection over there.” The one and only Blue

Ever since I’ve read book one, the desire to start this second book has been consuming me. The tension between Leela and Araz could be cut with a knife, and for a big part of this second book that doesn’t change. Seriously, this author knows like no other how to write about starcrossed lovers and make them suffer… And you just know you can’t trust the moment things seem to change, because that’s usually when the true hurt starts.
I never thought I’d say this, but in a way I love this author’s MF series a little more than her why choose work. It’s just a small difference, but the dynamic between all the characters just touches upon so much feelings I always need a bit of time to recuperate at the end of each book. The story can become real emotional, while the plot just keeps on going, twisting and turning around in the most unexpected ways.
So yeah, this was another awesome book, and now I can start counting the days until I can get my hands on book three…
If you loved book one of this series you will love book two. We start where book one ended at the elemental selection where we find out that Leela is not just any old run of the mill Demi-God but actually descended from royal bloodlines, the last of the royal lineage thought until now to have died out. The chance to make a real difference is within her reach. However the council who are running things now are power hungry and don’t want to lose their position and do not make Leela’s journey towards the crown easy, in fact they make it as hard as they bloody can! But with Araz by her side, and their bond growing stronger Leela will not crumble as easily as they hope even when tested to the limit. Prepare for a wild, emotional ride full of magic, love, betrayal and sadly some loss (I say no more but have some tissues close by) that you will be gutted to get to the end of. Already counting the days to book 3!
