Ava Storm’s day isn’t going great. Her good deed of caring for a stray cat turns into a disaster when she discovers that cat is actually her ex-husband magically transformed into an orange tabby. Then, when she is assigned her first actual police investigation in the field, a senior detective claims he’s already solved the case.

But Ava doesn’t think he’s right, so she digs into the case teaming up with her ex-husband’s gorgeous brother to uncover a world of deception in the supernatural underbelly of Los Angeles.

This is a stand-alone mystery novella.

Oh my word WHAT a fun read! I have to admit, the title caught me...We plunge right in with newly divorced Ava missing her dearly loved cat, who was also her familiar, who'd gone to kitty heaven and having to contend with another cat glaring at her through her window. This cat was nothing like her sweet affectionate Bubbles, he kept hounding her until she grudgingly let him in, she IS a cat person after all...but flip, THEN the cat talks, and lo and behold, it's not a stray, it's her ex Liam! Nasty human, nasty cat seems to fit the bill. Liam, in his previous human form, was self centred, self important, self righteous, yeah, SELF being the operative word and now poor Ava is struck with him. And, coincidentally, these are all characteristics of cats, REAL cats. His "change" is quite apt if you ask me 😂Just as she thought she'd never have to set eyes on his lazy cheating butt, fate has other plans.

Not only is her ex now a cat, begging for her help, her kushy job as a police consultant just got, well, elevated. Where before all she did was decide if a case was for the paranormal police or for the normal police, she's shoved, very unwillingly, at risk of losing her job unwillingly, into solving a case, like a detective, which she's not...and even worse, it's the same case her ex purported to witnessing, which apparently turned him into a cat... didn't help his attitude much though. And then there's her ex's brother... Braxton who had warned her off his own brother previously...but not for the obvious reasons.

Although this is a very lighthearted read, it's got more to it, it's not 2 empty slices of bread, there's ham and cheese in the centre, yes, it is the complete deal, really tasty. There are witches, shifters, Fae, all supers, even a golem, mystery, intrugue, cool magic and a dash of romance! I'm checking our more of this author's books...

THAT TIME MY EX TURNED INTO A CAT is the first installment in Mathiya Adams' Ava Storm Supernatural Mystery series. This fun and humorous story of a supernatural police case is my introduction to this author. My attention was captured at the beginning right to the end, wondering what's next. The novella is a stand-alone mystery.

Ava Storm finally got a divorce from her lazy, lying, cheating husband. Now he's back as a cat. New body,  same old Liam, lazy, whining, and expecting her to support him. He also mentions he saw a woman murdered just before he was turned into a cat and Ava must help find out what happened and turn him back into a human.

This story was so much fun to read.  I'm hoping to find out what the future holds for Ava and Liam.

Some days you just need a quick, witty, cozy witch mystery book. I found it hilarious that Ava’s ex husband is turned into a cat. If only we could all do that with our exes. Ava is really hard on herself. She doesn’t think she’s a very good which or detective, and neither does anyone else for that matter. She proves them wrong though! I really love how she didn’t fall in love after her divorce. She’s just living the single life, trying to put her life back together. I’m very interested in why Braxton kept telling Liam to stay away from her. I hope this series continues. I want to learn more about these characters and the world they live in. There are enough suspects in this case that it was near the end before I figured out who the real culprit was.

Good mystery, snarky dialog, dangerous female witches. A witch is murdered, apparently by a "Normie", non-magical person. Storm is a loner witch, not in a coven. She is assigned to investigate the murder. Multiple suspects, she gradually narrows it down. Last couple of chapters contain battle of magic users. I'll buy author again, hope for a sequel.

Fun story with some comedy sprinkled in. It involves witches and warlocks and detective work. It is an enjoyable read, treat yourself and pick up a copy.
