Read this book for my toddler's bedtime. This story followed a little girl, waving to the new boy who just moved in across the street. She didn't say but the story started with "if you need a friend, you can sit with me." A rhyming story. The girl waved at him on the bus the next morning to invite him to sit with her. In class, the teacher introduced him as the new student and she waved him over to sit with her. At recess, if he felt left out because he wore blue on a red day then she's okay if he wants to sit with her. At lunch, someone put a backpack to cover the spot where the newbie wants to sit, the girl's friend waved him over to sit with them.. the story goes on to more examples. Excellent story for kids! Cute illustrations!

Thank you MacKidsBooks for the opportunity to read and review.

This is a high quality audiobook production with a full soundtrack narrated by Melinda Sewak. This uses background noises and even voices like children cheering, to enhance the story. The background soundtrack really enhances the story and helps to keep children interested.

This is a sweet story about welcoming and including the members of the community especially when they are in need of a friend. This is very short and ideal for younger children, toddler age, as a fun introduction to audiobooks during bedtime or story time reading. I also think this could be beneficial for early or new readers to read along with the audio. The concepts and sentences are very early reader friendly.

Thank you to Rachel Tawil Kenyon, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. All opinions and viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.

The illustrations for You Can Sit with Me are just so incredibly adorable, there was absolutely no chance that I’d pass up giving this story a try. Rachel Tamil Kenyon does an excellent job of building musicality in her story, everything rather well as the narrator moves through the story. This book is also reasonably something that you could give to an emerging reader as a lot of the book is written with CVC words, therefore the tougher words are ones parents or buddy readers could support them with as they try to read the majority, themselves.

As for the content of this book, it’s wonderful. Told from the perspective of an incredibly caring young student who invites others to sit together, offering up the simple and yet immeasurably impactful opportunity for comfort and friendship. There is so much meaning behind being open for connection and friendship to others who may be having a tough time connecting to others, for whatever reason. I think this book also does wonders in teaching young readers to be purposefully kind in their day to day.

For the audiobook, I do feel that it absolutely must be paired with the book, since it might be difficult for readers to visualize who is talking to who with just the narration. All of that said, the narration is absolutely lovely and fun all the way through.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

You Can Sit with Me by Rachel Tawil Kenyon is a heart-touching and beautifully poetic book that offers an essential message wrapped in simplicity and warmth. With clear and concise narration, it gently unfolds a story about love, inclusion, and the power of a small, kind gesture.

Children naturally tend to be open and accepting, and this audiobook serves as a thoughtful tool to nurture that instinct. It reinforces the importance of making space—both emotionally and physically—for others, especially those who might feel left out or overwhelmed.

The central message is as profound as it is simple: the act of saying “you can sit with me” can be a lifeline for a child looking for connection or comfort. Whether at a reading circle, a craft table, or a picnic blanket, kindness always has a seat. It’s a reminder that inclusion doesn’t have to be complicated—it starts with a moment of empathy.

This poetic and powerful story is perfect for both home and classroom settings. It opens the door to conversations about diversity, empathy, and belonging, making it not just a book but a bridge toward deeper understanding.

A gentle, radiant reminder that kindness matters—You Can Sit with Me is a must-listen for children and grown-ups alike.

Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan audiobooks for this copy.

*You Can Sit With Me* is a heartwarming and uplifting children’s audiobook that delivers a beautiful message of inclusivity and belonging. Rachel Tawil Kenyon’s story reassures young listeners that no matter who they are or what quirks they may have, there will always be a place for them. The playful, outlandish scenarios—each followed by the comforting refrain that "you can sit with me"—make the message both fun and deeply affirming. It’s the kind of book that fosters empathy and self-acceptance in a way that feels natural and joyful.

Melinda Sewak’s narration is perfect for this story—warm, gentle, and full of kindness, making the listening experience feel like a cozy hug. The production quality is excellent, allowing the book’s sweet and reassuring tone to shine. This would be a wonderful addition to any child’s audiobook collection, especially for parents and educators looking to reinforce themes of friendship, diversity, and unconditional acceptance.

I’d gladly give this **5 out of 5 stars**—it’s simple yet powerful, and its message is one that every child deserves to hear. Highly recommended for young listeners and anyone who believes in the power of kindness. Thank you to **NetGalley** and **MacMillan Audio** for the advanced listener copy!

This is a great audiobook that encourages kids to be inclusive and kind to one another. The repetition of the message “you can sit with me” reinforces the idea that no matter the situation, there’s always a friend to turn to. Similarly, the book encourages children to be the person that a friend can turn to in a time of need. The message is clear and repeated throughout the book for clarity.

The audiobook is a wonderful format to enjoy this story in. The narrator is clear and emotive—keeping a hopeful tone throughout. The addition of background noise when applicable in the book helps it feel more atmospheric. Also, the situations presented in the story are realistic moments of feeling “singled out” at school, so it makes the book more applicable to children.

Overall, this is a great addition to any library or classroom. It is especially helpful in reinforcing the idea of being a friend to all in any situation.

Thank you to Macmillian audio for the advanced copy

With an excellent narration by Melinda Sewak and a kind, inclusive message that all children deserve to hear, You Can Sit With Me was a delightful audiobook.

I loved how this book helped eliminate so many of the anxieties young children face when they are the new kid, wear the wrong outfit, or stand out because they have something that makes them not fit the mold. The message was clear all are included.

The writing was easy to follow, and the audio narration was enhanced by background music. I know this is the type of story I would enjoy reading to my children, and it is definitely something that we would listen to on our way to school and then discuss. Overall, I highly enjoy this audiobook.

10 Stars! “You Can Sit with Me” is a heartwarming children’s book that promotes kindness and inclusion. Through its simple yet profound message, the story illustrates the power of offering a welcoming gesture—like inviting someone to sit with you—to help children feel accepted in new or overwhelming situations, such as a reading circle, craft table, or picnic. The book tackles common anxieties like being new, wearing the wrong outfit, or feeling different, emphasizing that everyone is included.
The endearing characters and easy-to-follow writing make it an engaging and delightful experience. I pre-ordered this book for my preschool class and will also get it for my teenage daughter and her friends. Thank you Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a Beautiful Book I was given an Audio Copy of. The Narrator does a good job reading this book. It is about being kind and allowing a Child to Be a Part of the Group no Matter How They Are. This is the way to Make Kids feel accepted and put a Stop to Bullying. Often, this is where kids Can be ostracized and made to feel alone.

I think having the actual book and seeing the Illustrations would be all the better, but adding in the Audio for Kids to listen to would be nice as well. Definitely Recommend getting a copy of You Can Sit with Me. Excellent for Kids and Adults, as well.

Thank You Macmillan Audio for Giving me an Audio Copy of this Book. I appreciate this so much. I always leave Reviews of all Books and Audios I Read.

4 minute audio that didn't really sound like a real person narrating.
The cover of the book is adorable and I feel like it would be so much better to be able to see the pictures/pages that go with the audio. Not sure I would recommend purchasing only the audio, instead would opt for the printed version.
I would say this book is geared towards maybe kindergarten/first grade age kids but would be good for anyone who's having a little trouble adjusting to grammar school or social situations.
Everyone needs friendly and supportive people in their lives and this is a reminder to be that way for others.

Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

What a great book for that first day of school jitters, especially after you move to a new school. The text is simple but effective in its message of kindness and how to be a good friend. Lastly, I loved the sweet illustrations and appreciate that other kids watch and learn kindness from our narrator. A wonderful for book for anyone getting ready to move (or already has) and any classroom to help welcome their new classmates.

Thank you NetGalley for an audio ARC.
This is such a great book for young kids to teach them or remind them about how to be a decent human being. I would use this in both a home and classroom setting. It would be great as a "first day of school" reminder of how we can be kind to others and make everyone feel welcome and accepted. I absolutely love the messaging in this book and the audio narration was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Encouraging story about making room for others. Readers see a young girl make room in the neighborhood and at school for a new friend who has just moved there. We see all sorts of scenarios where the title refrain is repeated. Kenyon's gentle tone makes for a welcoming feel in both the sad and glad happenings. The artwork is highly detailed and offers more information on each page spread. A great read aloud for early in the school year or when kids are meeting new friends.

Very close to a five star book for me! The overall message, attitude, and feeling of the book are excellent. The illustrations are lovely, colorful and fun without being overwhelming. What knocked it down a star for me was that "you can sit by me" was used every time except for the second to last time. There were a number of times an adjusted phrase would have been warranted, and I wish the author would have keep with it 100% or just adjusted the phrase as needed.

Still a very nice, cute book.

You Can Sit with Me (Hardcover)
by Rachel Tawil Kenyon
Audio book is a life affirming book, about inclusion. It does not mater what is different with you, you can sit with me. If its the color of you shirt, you can sit with me. Its a good social emotional book showing that even if there is difference we can all work together.

ALWAYS be welcoming. And the story of a little girl who welcomes a new boy with open arms whether he's been moved out of a spot in the cafeteria or isn't quite sure where to go during free time, our little protagonist repeats that he can always sit with me.

It's a heartwarming, repetitive picture book that is perfect for the opening to a new school year, new adventure, or simply to remind people to be kind at any age. The spreads are so sweet from posing for a class picture to walking home in the rain.

"If life is hard or life is good or you just need a place to be, you can always sit with me."

Sweet book about a new child in a class or school finding another student who invites him to sit with her when he is unable to make new friends in a new school. M.C. is open to helping the new student find his place in a new school and class.
