Read Fever Coast before reading the present book. The characters from Fever Coast found themselves in India where the French and English trading companies fought significant skirmishes which were not fought for love of country. They fought for treasure. I found less than ten good men in the book, and the most of them were fictitious. The Black Hole incident was horrific. The Tiger Hunt was intriguing. The Noise of India was a third rail as was the Heat in India.
I wrote about Adelaide in my review of Fever Coast. I said she was an Albino. Well, she got some color in India where she married and even made a foray into polite society, all to no avail. Lachlan, who knew her depravity, was still on the hunt, and she was his prey.
This is books is filled with intrigue , bloody battle, Love, and the brutality of human nature.
I think this book is far better than book 1 ( Fever Coast) . This has a much faster pace, and more twists and turns. I genuinely connected with the main character. I felt his pain. Karma is such a huge part of this story. The ending is brilliant !!!
This is a gritty tale based on a dark and gritty time and place
This sequel novel is worth a read by world's leaders since history has been repeating itself - businesses with their own armies and economies larger than their home country. At any rate, this is a good thrilling adventure that, as an American, provides a view outside of our colonial period.
I've heard about the East India company. Now I know a lot more. You can tell extensive research went into this book. I wouldn't recommend eating whilst reading the beginning... there's quite a gory scene involving canons and prisoners, Enough to put you off your dinner! 😀 great lead characters.
I’m not sure how he does it but Colin Falconer never fails to produce compulsive page turners. This is no exception and the added bonus is it’s really well written! I won’t summarise the plot or the characters but if you are in the mood to read a thrilling adventure story, I highly recommend this.
An Ambush of Tigers has everything a great Historical novel should have: believable settings for time and place, intrigue, heart stopping danger, and a surprise ending. Colin Falconer nailed it again!
Lot of speed reading though out this iteration. Three stars are in comparison to Fever. It just wasn't as interesting characters not as intriguing and sub plots plain vanilla
An adventure tale with historical fact blended in. The characters are fascinating and well developed The story is fast paced and buckle up for adventure
Well I have to tell that I did manage to read this book to the end, but let me tell you that it was very hard going at times. It is not the worst novel that I have ever read but my advice would be that if you have another more intriguing looking book to read, then, go with that other one.
An Ambush of Tigers, book 2 in a Colin Falconer HF Duology. Lachlan Mackenzie is about to return to Africa with his wife and then his world is crushed again.
