I discovered this book through TikTok, and the creator’s spoken word content and energy really resonated with me when they came across my FYP. I think these poems likely thrive more as performed spoken word than on the page, which makes sense given the TikTok origin.

That said, this book wasn’t quite for me. Being self-published, there are a lot of spelling errors and typos. Some of these feel intentional in terms of language style, but many seem like oversights. There are also formatting issues, like blank pages after poems, which suggest it wasn’t fully copy-edited. Some of the imagery felt basic and familiar, lacking nuance.

Overall, I think the author has a strong, authentic voice and real passion for their craft. This seems like early work in their career, and I believe they have the potential to develop into a more polished poet over time. While it wasn’t a perfect fit for me personally, I can see why others, especially fans of spoken word or TikTok poetry, might connect with it more.

Poetry is not something I’m very interested in but honestly, the author popped up on my TikTok feed promoting this poetry book and it intrigued me enough to give it a try.

I don’t really know enough about poetry to rate the actual poetry on a scale of one to five, however some of these were so very beautiful even as someone who has no idea what she’s talking about. I specifically adored “Good Morning Text!” So four stars is what seems right to me.

I like the overall message that this book speaks, and that is that you are worthy & deserving of good things (and yellow flowers). The poems are also very spiritually charged, and I appreciate that so much!

What got me interested in this poetry collection was the simple marketing as well as the thought behind the collection. A bit of friendly joy, much like a gifted yellow rose. I was curious as the lead title poem was read if the overall connected thread of this collection would be about appreciation, care, and grace to oneself and others.

‘How to Hurt a Friend’ was a favorite because it was relatable and realistic. And ‘Where Are The Martyrs?’ was relevant and well written. ‘Yellow’ & ‘Yellow Flowers Are for The Living’ were top-notch and probably the most well thought and edited. They were relatable poems of self-deprecation and forgiveness. However, the rest of the poetry was very rudimentary, and felt basic in context.

This is a good self-published poetry book that I thought had interesting ideas and poems, but there were so many typos and formatting mistakes that would distract me from what I was reading. I hope this author keeps writing poetry and improving their style :)
