I've reviewed a few titles from this adorable little series in the past, so I just couldn't miss the opportunity to read the latest novel through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Like the others in the series, GAME TIME MALLORY features a smart and spunky young girl, Mallory, as she goes through the frustrations and excitement of her every day life with her two best friends. In the current story, Mallory decides to join a youth basketball group, despite her friends' unwillingness to participate as well. Although she desperately wants to impress her classmates and her family with her dedication and skill in basketball, she soon finds herself in the position of being the *only* girl on the team who hasn't scored a single point in a game. After days of missed shots, even managing to score points for an opposing team, Mallory is ready to give up her on new hobby for good. Can her best friends convince her not to give up -- or, is it time for Mallory to turn in her uniform in order to pursue greater things?

As with the others that I've read in the past, the book was pretty cute, with adorable illustrations, a relateable story line, and a strong female role model that can easily encourage and entertain young readers. This would be a great first series for elementary school children who want to read chapter books on their own, without feeling lost or bogged down in a complicated plot line.

I'm not really into basketball, or sports in general, so I don't think I enjoyed this title as much as others I have previously read, but I do think the messages of team work and friendship will push beyond a slight disinterest in the subject matter at hand.

I'm sure I will read others in the future, for as long as the author continues the series.

Mallory is the average girl, wanting to join every club her school offers. Soon, a basketball program is being offered and Mallory is positive on her decision to join. However, her friends?.... Ehh not so much. All of her closest friends seem to have the busiest schedules during this time period and refuse to join. But Mallory doesn't let that get to her and follows her heart.
She practices and practices and thinks she has her game on. As soon as tryouts come along... It's a completely different story. She doesn't make ANY baskets and some girls on her team are not exactly kind to her about her mistakes and few failures. She needs to figure out a way to do well and take care of the mean girls on her team.
As for how I enjoyed the book? The book was the practical fail then win kind of story. In my opinion, it was all too predictable. She struggles on the team, then gets a pep talk and suddenly does well and makes the winning basket in the game. The story had very few to no surprises and had me predicting every event in this story. Overall, the book would be much better with a few tweaks here and there.

Game Time, Mallory is the 23rd book in the Mallory McDonald series. Mallory, the title character, is excited to play basketball, but nervous about joining a team without her friends. When teams are formed, she winds up with mean girls Arielle and Danielle, who taunt her repeatedly about her inability to pass or shoot the ball. Mallory worries the season will end without her ever making a contribution to her team.

Game Time, Mallory is intended for the lower end of the middle grade spectrum. The Mallory series really takes a positive turn in this latest story, as it takes the focus away from Mallory and her best friends and gives Mallory an opportunity to branch out on her own. By playing basketball, she learns important lessons about teamwork, persistence, and confidence.
