About the author

I'm the author of seventy-something novels, including romance, women's fiction and mystery. When We Were Sisters debuted in June 2016, a stand alone novel about two foster sisters traveling back into their past together. I loved writing it and love the cover my publisher chose.

I'm also excited about my recent series, Goddesses Anonymous, which started with One Mountain Away and was followed by Somewhere Between Luck and Trust. The third book in the series, A River Too Wide, came out in July 2014. The Color of Light debuted in August 2015. Will there be more? We'll see.

I'm also putting up my newly edited romance backlist and love re-reading and updating them a bit.

Last year my husband and I moved from Virginia, to Osprey, Florida, the state where both of us were raised, met, and married. In the summer we live in Chautauqua, New York. I'm a quilter, knitter, kayaker, and the mother of four children, whom I regard as my greatest creative endeavors. And now there are four wonderful grandchildren to spoil.

Knyga sužavėjo. Tai dviejų šeimų ir jų kartų saga. Veikėjų daug, aprašomi skirtingi šeimų likimai. Australija, tolimoji ferma. Nedidelis miestelis, žvejų laivai, kriauklių rinkėjai.

Iš tikrųjų šiuolaikinė istorija man buvo mažiausiai įdomi. Va pati pradžia, apie du geriausius draugus ir perlą, štai kas labiausiai įtraukė. Netikėtas poelgis ir viso prakeiksmo užsukimas. Gal net ir pamokanti istorija, kai norisi daugiau bet kokia kaina. Išdidumas, turtai apsuka galvą ir pamini visas vertybes. Būtent ta vieta ir neleis man pamiršti knygos. ...juk aš jam ir taip dovanojau du metus pagyventi.. wow.. O vėliau tik gavo ko nusipelnė.

Labai daug jausmų, tiek meilės, tiek kaltės, skausmo ir išdavystės. Kiekviena istorija labai paliesdavo, norėdavos išmąstyti, pabūti su ja, išjausti.
Nustebino knyga, nes tikėjausi paprasto lengvo romano, o gavau daug daugiau. Gražus pasakojimo stilius, malonu skaityti, nors knyga gana stora, 608pusl., bet man neprailgo.

🖋 ..eidavo išsitiesęs, lyg siektų išretinto oro, tinkamo tik dievams.

Spalvinga, intriguojanti, jausminga ir romantiška istorija apie neįkainojamą perlą, kuris dvi susijusias šeimas veda į pražūtį 🤎

Pasakojimas vystosi dviem laiko juostomis. Tai - šie laikai, kai dabartinė brangakmenio paveldėtoja Liana, kartu su buvusiu vyru Kalenu (antrosios šeimos nariu), leidžiasi į staiga dingusio sūnaus paieškas. O antrasis laikmetis pasakoja prieš šimtą metų ištraukto paslaptingojo perlo istoriją ir svarbiausius įvykius, kurie vyko po to.

Atsivertus pirmuosius puslapius, mane išgąsdino pateiktas šeimų medus. Jau nujaučiau, jog laukia tikrai painus romanas. Tarp vardų nepasimečiau, bet veikėjų čia tikrai nemažai 😁 Nors patiko abi knygoje pasakojamos istorijos, mane labiau sužavėjo dabartis. Vėliau praeities skyriai įsiterpdavo pačiu netinkamiausiu metu, tad džiaugiausi, kai jie baigėsi 🙈 Nors, žinoma, be jų nebūtų pavykę taip gerai įsijausti į istoriją. Apie pačią knygą yra įvairių nuomonių, bet man patiko. Tik, mano galva, pasakojimą buvo galima šiek tiek sutrumpinti.

Nors kažko labai ypatingo čia nebuvo, knyga buvo tai, ko tuo momentu man reikėjo. Siūlau, jei norisi ko nors paslaptingo bei intriguojančio 💫

The author writes beautifully. This is my first book by her; I have three of her books total. I'm eager to try the next two. For this one, I didn't enjoy the long back and forth episodes as a personal preference with reading, preferring to stay in the current crisis timeline. That didn't help my enjoyment, so I hope the other two I have don't do the same.

Didelės apimties šeimų sagos yra mano vienas mėgstamiausių guilty pleasures. Kartas nuo karto man labai norisi panirti į sudėtingus šeimų medžius, dviejų laikų istorijas, šeimos paslaptis, intrigas ir panašius reikalus. “Žavios melagystės” būtent tokia knyga ir jau nuo pirmųjų puslapių supratau, kad tai būtent tai, ko aš ieškojau šiuo metu! 

Robsonų ir Liuelinų šeimų gyvenimai panašu, kad sukasi aplink vieną perlą. Nešantį nelaimę, mirtį,  liūdesį ir nedarną, tačiau vis tiek traukiantį prie savęs kaip magnetą. Kaip minėjau, šioje istorijoje keliaujama dviem laikais ir, kaip neretai nutinka, man praeitis patiko kiek labiau, nei dabarties įvykiai. Man labai patiko skaityti apie tai, kaip seniau vykdavo perlų paieškos vandenyno dugne, koks tai siaubą keliantis, bet kartu įsimintinas potyris. 

Dabartis pasakoja apie tas pačias šeimas, kai vieną dieną dabartinės perlo paveldėtojos sūnus dingsta kartu su perlu. Berniuko ir perlo paieškos jo tėvus nuveda atgal į Australiją, kur visa istorija ir prasidėjo. Knyga labai spalvinga, turinti daug veikėjų, tačiau ne visi man atrodė tokie išpildyti ir įtikinantys kaip galėtų būti. Kartu čia labai svarbią dalį užima ir rasizmas. “Žavios melagystės” turi daug intrijų ir melo, paslapčių ir skaudžių įvykių, lėmusių ne vieno istorijos veikėjo gyvenimus. Gal į pabaigą man ji jau atrodė, kiek per ilga, tačiau bendrai man ji patiko ir noriu rekomenduoti ją mėgstantiems kelių laikų šeimos istorijas!

So many back stories interrupted the flow of the current story of Liana, Cullen and their son Matthew which I found frustrating. Once you get through the sections that go back in time to a previous ancestor's era, which fortunately get shorter and shorter, the main story is hard to put down. The main theme is greed which interferes with love with a secondary theme of fear that interferes with love. The characters are well-drawn and span four generations, but my interest remained with the current era. The descriptions of Australia over the four generations is masterful. I fell in love with the language.

A flawless pearl causes long lasting consequences to all those who possess it. From murder, to insanity, to betrayal to heartbreaks.... no one escapes the "curse" of the pearl.

The story jumps between the present time, where Liana and Cullen are desperately trying to track down their missing son Matthew and possibly the pearl, and the past where Tom and Archer are best buddings and set about oyster harvesting, to Mei's story with the pearl.

There were a few times when the story kind of dragged a little bit. For the most part the story moved along just enough to keep my attention and curious. Quick the family saga and interesting mix of characters for sure.

Prasidėjus karui norisi lengvo žanro. Tad ši knyga puikiai tiko. Dviejų šeimų trijų kartų painios istorijos.

Despite the fact that the book is very large and heavy, it is very easy to read. I like reading about family saga and to know how pearls (maybe Marilyn Monroe sang that diamonds are the best girl's friend but i personally think that's pearls) was cultivated, hunted and discovered. I recommend this book for summer vacations.

This novel is a story of generations of the Robeson and Llewellyn families after The Pearl of Great Price is discovered from the depths of the Australian waters. It is a story of how friendship can change when greed overtakes the human soul. It is also a story of family secrets and unspoken words.

It's a powerful story in many ways as it is a story not only of the generations of 2 families but is classic in that it could be a story across the generations of many families and portrayed by different nationalities and living in other parts of the world.

Emilie Richards blends the current day with family history seamlessly and the drama is vivid through her storytelling and riveting through the characters she has created to share their story. For me, it is one of the novels that as I close the book cover, I must pass on to another reader friend to discover and be captivated.

Rich and Compelling - a terrific read

A wondrous tale of the early days for pearling in Australia, and a unique pearl and the people it affected. Like many things f great value, it causes good and bad to flourish. An excellent read and visiting Australia remains on my bucket list. Greatly recommend!
