Ofelia Archer thought she’d faced off with every paranormal enemy known to man. She was wrong. She’s about to fight something even bigger than she ever imagined. The weird thing is the packaging is somewhat smaller. When at a Carnival parade, goblins descend and take Ofelia and her fiancé Zach Sully by surprise. The attack is quick and brutal. When the dust clears, one of New Orleans’ richest men is dead. Was that an accident or by design? As Ofelia and Sully start digging, they find a tangled web of deceit. The goblins have been in New Orleans before, but they were driven out by a magical contingent of vampires. They have no intention of leaving again. On top of that, their king has decided he needs a wife. He wants that wife to be Ofelia. As Ofelia learns about the past she starts worrying about the future. Can she fight off an entire army of goblins and keep those she loves safe? The war is on, and only one side will come out victorious. Who will it be, the goblin king or the French Quarter’s favorite witch?
Once again Ofelia and Sully save the French Quarter from magical menaces. The ending was a bit anticlimactic because there wasn’t a huge and long takedown, but that’s really does have a lot to do with Fe and Sully’s in sync relationship. They’re so in tune with one another.
What made up for the quick ending was all the things that happened in between. Fe’s father Oscar has a mental health disorder and that has been addressed quite a bit in the previous books. It is nice to see that he is doing so well and is learning to make his own decisions without leaning so heavily on Fe.
There was also another surprise within the pages that happened to Felix. Felix is also learning to rely on himself rather than Fe. Fe has always been the glue to hold her family together, so she will also need to learn to allow her father and brother to be more independent.
Besides those two men for Ofelia to worry over, there were magical creatures running amok in the Quarter. Pascal was only in a few paragraphs in this, so that sorta stunk because I very much like the vampire, but I’m sure Harper Hart will make up for his absence in the next book.
As always with this series, 5 stars!
Next on my To Read list is Book 20 from Julie Mulhern’s Country Club Murders series: “Bad Blood.” If you like the 1970’s, dry humor, and cozy mysteries, you’ll like The Country Club Murders series.
There's a lot going on in this story. I'm a little surprised Sully and Ophelia's heads didn't explode at some point. Luckily, they kept their heads in spite of all the upheaval happening around them and to them. The Goblin king has decided Ophelia will be his wife. He wants her magic and won't take no for an answer. Sully is naturally opposed to losing his fiance to a three foot high, grayish green disgusting goblin, (or to anyone else for that matter). Mayhem ensues. Will Sully, Ophelia and company win the day, or is Ophelia doomed to become queen of the goblins? There are other surprises waiting for you to discover, dear reader, so what are you waiting for? Enjoy!
Supernatural surprises everywhere with a lot of laughing in between. Fee and her adored fiancé have some major family shockers coming their way along with the horde of goblins and a dead local.
The dead locals are normal given her fiancé is a detective and part of the paranormal team but things are always on the odd side in N’Orleans and this time even crazier when the family is involved - aand noooooobody messes with family. Nooooobody.
An entertaining stories, always love the supporting cast of characters, adore Fee and her fiancé and their hilarious hijinks and an absolutely worthwhile read
This book/series is one of my favorites. I love the dynamic between Sully and Ofelia. They balance each other. The characters are well developed even the newbies in this book. You can visualize them or I can. After 18 books the stories are still fresh as well as the characters have evolved over time. The characters are all snarky and sarcastic which I love, as well as some of the scenes have rolling on the floor laughing. I highly recommend this book and series but I feel you should start with book 1 to see the characters entire story.
I'd give this series 5,000,000 STARS if possible!! They are just AWESOME!! FUNNY, SCARY AS ALL GET OUT!!! sometimes but I'm a chicken so, LOVE the banter between ALL of the characters, the LOCATION is MADE for this series!! It just makes the series that much more INTRIGUING and interesting and heee beeeee jeee beee evoking and/or spine tingling. The goblins were a great touch!! esp. the one that called Ophelia, TOOTS!!! Those are just the highlights it gets SOOOO MUCH BETTER than the synopsis even alludes to. The WORST PART THOUGH was speed reading to the END and realizing it was OVER. I'm in withdrawal.
The series is growing a bit, but not a lot of character development over the last several books. Oscar is improving though, that's nice. Fe and Sully are pretty much where they have been for awhile. The constant "I love you, no, I love you" and dinner in bed conversations do drag a bit. Even the other characters tell them it's too much! This story brings a new para into the mix so that's interesting. Fe's brother and Sully's sister have a life changing decision to make. I do plan to continue with the series.
Goblins, who knew they were real! They described them and I still had them looking like Griphook from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Everything happens because of money. Isn't the saying "All evil comes from money". Well I think that's the saying, its true. Can't wait to see what comes next for Ofelia and Zack. On to the next adventure!😉💚💙
In book 18 New Orleans is at it again. There are the usual witches, shifters, and vampires, but a group of new creatures show up causing chaos and mayhem. There is a murder right off the bat, loads of magic, danger, and romance. And a big surprise for Felix. Highly entertaining.
Join Ophelia and Sully as they have a bit of trouble from some little people, while they are at it you will see a lot of their friends and family and who knows there might be a surprise or two along the way. If you’re curious you know what you need to do, so go out and get this book and read it in a night or two, I did and I’m a slow reader;)
My my, this one is just as fun, interesting, cute, and creepy as every book in this series, and by this very talented and prolific author. I’ll go with a micro hint. Rather short grayish-greenish nasty vicious group of troublemakers. Of course, there’s a twist, or two.
Can Ofelia balance the safety of her family and the expansion of her family?
Carnival has started and the family only thought Oscar’s mental health was something to look out for. Imagine how stunned they were when a new paranormal disrupts a parade. Traveling down a dark rabbit hole, Ofelia and Sully have to find out everything they can, and yesterday.
I always enjoy the supernatural speakeasy mysteries. There are always a few plot lines happening at once. The overindulgence in food is a bit odd, but I enjoy the characters. This book was short and lacked some of the detail descriptions that would have made it easier to picture the scenes. I hope the next book is a bit more descriptive.
Fe and Sully have to be my favorite characters of Lily Harper Hart's. Not only do we get to live vicariously through them and their journeys, they provide good New Orleans vibe (of course, I have never been so maybe it's just me day dreaming of what New Orleans is like). Love how the duo pulls both the super-natural and non-paranormal worlds together.
Did not see that coming and I'm ready for it! I hope that we can get more on that storyline! There's nothing these two can't handle but the drama is what they've become good at! I'm glad that Oscar is getting better and ready to start living his life healthier! I can't wait for the next book!
Hex to Nothing ( A Supernatural Speakeasy Mystery #18)
I totally love this series. The author always has great storyline with wonderful characters in them. There is just something so interesting in how they come together.
I love Ms. Hart's stories! Out of all the different books I read she is my favorite author. She has a fun sense of humor that she writes interesting mysteries around. You won't be sorry to buy any of her books.
To New Orleans. I love love love the Ophelia books. This one did not disappoint although I would have loved for more Pascal. He says he'd handle it and then we never saw him again.
Things are going smoothly, so of course a murder happens during a Mardi Gras parade. Goblins, murder and a surprise pregnancy. Danger, humor and love. No cliffhanger and hea. Great series
The family is growing, as is the population in New Orleans. Dealing with magic has become a sneaky enterprise because of the invaders. I really like the twist in the story.
I love this series. I love Sully and Ophelia. Oscar is so real. The trials they have are always exciting and mysterious. I hope this series never ends. I look forward to a wedding and kids and kids growing up with powers. EXCELLENT READ! Great Author.
Fabulous read! I don't know how she does it but the author has such an imagination! This story in particular has some "out there" moments with a couple of huge surprises thrown in.
Enjoying this series. The characters are enjoyable and the storyline fun with some serious aspects including mental health. Looking forward to the next.
What a surprise! The plot lines are interesting and come together well. I enjoy the characters and as they grow and change. Can't wait for the next one.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
