A delightful adventure about a little goat in search of a farmer's pie. On the way the goat goes to a hairstylist and checks out a farmer's market. It's a sweet little story without any heavy-handed moral. Just a fun little ride, with cute illustrations.
Oh my Goat! Scout is one mischievous and determined goat – his obsession with that cherry pie is hilariously relatable. The moment he ends up playing firefighter in oversized boots and setting off the sirens? Pure comedic gold! My little one was giggling uncontrollably. It's a wonderfully playful story that captures a child's curiosity and the chaos that sometimes ensues. Highly recommend for a fun-filled read-aloud!

As an adult, I genuinely enjoyed the story — it was charming, well-written, and had a positive tone that made me want to give it five stars. However, when I considered the age group it targets (4–8 years old), I had to rethink my rating. The main character, a young goat, sneaks out alone to explore the city, and the story ends happily without any real consequences. For very young children, this could send the wrong message — that it’s okay or even exciting to sneak away from home without telling anyone. While curiosity and independence are good traits, they need to be guided carefully at this age. The lack of danger or warning in the storyline might encourage kids to imitate this behavior in real life. Because of this, I don’t think the book is suitable for its intended age group, despite its literary and artistic merits. It may be better suited for slightly older children who can better understand the difference between fantasy and real-life decisions.
Some stories capture pure childhood joy, and Scout’s latest escapade does exactly that. In Goat on the Go: Scout’s Delicious Day by Natalie Horseman, the lovable goat with an endless sense of curiosity follows the irresistible smell of something sweet all the way from Stephens Farm into town. Cosette Alcalde’s colorful and expressive illustrations make Scout’s journey feel lively, warm, and full of motion.
This book is a wonderful blend of humor, gentle life lessons, and playful adventure. Young readers will giggle at Scout’s determination while adults appreciate the themes of exploration, courage, and trying new things. Perfect for ages 3 to 8, this second book in the Goat on the Go series makes a fantastic read aloud for families, classrooms, and any child who adores animals and silly adventures. Scout’s Delicious Day is a cheerful addition to any picture book collection and a story that leaves you smiling long after the last page.
Goat On the Go: Scout's Delicious Day is a charming story in which the young goat is once more up to no good as he not only follows his nose but also his belly.
Along the way, Scout meets new people who don't seem to bat too much of an eye for this fish out of water and allows readers to see some interesting stops along the way. And you don't need to read the first to enjoy this one although it is highly recommended.
The author has kept with the same brightly colorful and rather cartoonish illustrations which provides Scout with wonderful facial expressions as he gets to experience his adventures whether for good or bad.

“Goat On The Go: Scout’s Delicious Day” by Natalie Horseman is wonderfully illustrated and tells the story of Scout the goat who decides to go on an adventure when he smells the scent of a freshly baked cherry pie. Disdaining carrots and hay, Scout decides he must try the pie and that is how his adventure begins. Scout tries driving a fire engine, gets his hair cut, and also gets lost, panicking till Luna the farm dog rescues him. Oh, and he also sticks his face in that pie, guzzling it. No one gets angry and Scout gets back to his farm, determined to adventure out again. Though fantastical, this crazy, little story will delight children everywhere.
Full of adventure, fun, and funny, we follow Scout as he keeps his eyes on the pies. Vibrant colours, great expressions, a mirthful bedtime read for all ages. There are lessons here, too, about a spirit of new experiences, staying focused, keeping close so as not to get lost, and appreciation for home. My favourite parts were the reflection of the farmer's pie in Scout's eyes and the hairdresser deciding to primp up the goat. It's a new classic, for sure.
Natalie Horseman did not disappoint in this second installment of the Goat on the Go series. Scout the goat is off on another adventure, and this time he's chasing a sweet cherry pie through town! The story will make you giggle from start to finish as Scout gets into all sorts of silly situations just to get a bite of the pie. It's a fun read that encourages curiosity and new experiences, just with a little adult guidance so kids don’t end up lost like Scout in the farmer’s market.
Goat on the Go: Scout's Delicious Day is a cute farm story featuring a determined little goat. Scout gets a whiff of Farmer Ray's cherry pie and sets out on an adventure to get a taste of it. He hops in the back of Farmer Ray's truck and follows him into town. His adventure leads him to a fire station, beauty shop and, lastly, to the Farmer's Market where he discovers the pie. Early readers will enjoy this entertaining story and colorful illustrations.
This adorable book reminds me of books like "Curious George" and "Corduroy" from my childhood. Scout the goat is immediately likable and the adventure he goes on is full of fun twists and turns. I thought the colorful illustrations were also fantastic. I was delighted to see a photo of the author as a child at the end with her grandfather - which matches the sentiment I had while reading the book to my niece. Sweet book!
Another fun adventure with Scout the goat chasing adventures in town. This story is sure to be an oft-requested bedtime story from young children. The illustrations are cute and appealing and enhance the tale.
A little goat is desperate to try some of the fabulous pie the farmer is bringing into town, so he sneaks onto the truck. His adventures in town are adorable and the art is fantastic. I loved this book! Perfect for a classroom story time or snuggling up at bed time.

Scout, a little goat, just wants pie--even if it means jumping into the farmer's truck for a ride to the big city. But he has quite an adventure in search of pie. Delightful illustrations. This book is part of a series.
The 5 star rating was provided by my granddaughter. This was a cute read though. I had no idea that goats had such discerning tastes. She loved it and I thought it was pretty cute.
"Goat on the Go" is a captivating story about a little goat's exciting escape to town and surprising adventures in new places. Kids will love the story, pictures, and happy ending.
Such a fun book and I love that it included info on the real-life Farmer Ray and that Scout is a real goat as well! I'd definitely recommend this book for all little animal lovers!
