I received a free copy of, Not Exactly Mr. Darcy, by Carolyn Miller, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book number one in The Silver Teapot series. Olivia Bennett is helping her grandmother and working at a nearby hall. Olivia loves history and Mr. Darcy. is the man she wants to be with, is there a man alive that is like Mr. Darcy? This was a nice read.

When a friend learned that I was reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time, she encouraged me to read this book. I’m so glad I took her advice and must thank Barbour Fiction for providing this ARC.

Author Carolyn Miller whisks readers away to a tiny village in the English countryside, to a fictional estate, Hartbury Hall, that was supposedly used as Pemberley in the filmed production of Pride and Prejudice. It’s here that we meet a surly gardener and an Australian granddaughter who has come to aid her grandmother after hip surgery. Olivia Bennet’s parents have sent their daughter overseas in hopes that she can find her own Mr. Darcy. Little do they know that Liam Browne, the grumpy gardener, is “a most disagreeable, horrid man, not at all worth pleasing,”...just like Mr. Darcy himself!

Miller explores second chances, finding love unexpectedly, and the danger of relying on appearances.

I appreciated the warnings not to let unforgiveness hold me prisoner nor allow other people’s negativity to stop my faith. I laughed at Olivia’s reply to Camilla Atwood regarding ‘Lord’ and copied out the quote about celebration and toleration.

I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel to this great series!

This was such a sweet story. It combines opposites attract, forced proximity, and secret identity romance, and I really enjoyed it.

After Olivia’s work contract isn’t renewed, she moves to an English village to take care of her grandmother. While there, she agrees to help restore Hartbury Hall, the beautiful estate where Pride and Prejudice was filmed. That’s where she meets Liam, a quiet and reserved gardener who doesn’t seem very open to her ideas at first.

As they spend more time together, Olivia begins to see his softer side and learns more about his past. Liam also starts to admire her sincerity and good heart, and slowly begins to trust her, and take an interest in her. But his heart has been broken before. Can he trust her with his true identity? And when Olivia finds out who he really is, will it undo all the progress they’ve made, or could it bring them even closer together?

This is a cozy read, perfect for fall. I would have enjoyed a little more time focused on Olivia and Liam’s growing connection, but what we do get to experience, I absolutely loved! And that first kiss? The sweetest!

I’m really looking forward to E.J.’s (Emma Jane's) story next! I'll try to be patient for its release next year, lol.

The more I think about this book, the more it continues to grow on me, especially when reflecting upon how, in many ways, our lives are comparable to an estate that needs continual care. Using the premise of a filming location that once had its heyday through a movie adaption of Pride and Prejudice and having since fallen into disarray, we get to see Olivia Bennett, an Australian teacher, temporarily move to England to help her grandmother and encounter Hartbury Hall along the way. Through a series of circumstances, including some conspiring forces, it's formidable to see Liv pour all of her heart and effort into helping bring Hartbury Hall back to its former glory.

While it is a delight to see Liam Browne transform from being a heartbroken and cynical man to one that gradually sees the Lord's hand in his life, the real star of the book is seeing everyone come together to take on something that is broken and to bring about restoration. It's the perfect illustration of what God can do with our hearts even when we believe they are beyond mending. Learning about The Silver Teapot and the Bennett sisters, I am excited to see what is next for this loving family with a penchant for Jane Austen. If you enjoy books that cover the ins and outs of reviving a tourist attraction and a burgeoning romance that looks beyond the surface, Not Exactly Mr. Darcy is a gentle, faith-filled story that delivers an Austenesque escape to the countryside, complete with a hero's hidden charm and a heroine's steadfast determination.

I saw the title and cover of this book and knew I need to read the synopsis. Read that and instantly I was like, I need this in my life!!! It was a delightful read! I was invested in Olivia's story and what was to come in her life after the frustrations from her teaching job. But I loved watching her rise up and make the best of her circumstances, and of her family basically planning out her next step. I loved meeting her grandma. She's a hoot!!! You'll be laughing and giggling over some of her antics, if not all of them! But I loved the way her grandma loved her as well and wanted Olivia to succeed.

And Liam was definitely a little bit of an unknown character who we got to see the layers peeled back on as the book progressed. He has some sadness and heartbreaks from his past that keeps him very reserved. And maybe a little brusque towards any tourists that happen upon his estate. He's not too thrilled with people trying to find out information about him and his life.

I loved that Liam's estate was the estate used in a Pride and Prejudice film, and Olivia definitely loved that. Through her knowledge and experience, she was able to help pull down some of Liam's walls by helping him revive the estate and helping it become a thriving community again. Supporting the community members and his family. It was sweet watching their friendship build through the frustrations and tension, and possibly some not so upfront information about who he is!

I'm looking forward to what's to come in this series! This was my first time reading a book by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A delightful romance that includes a fun play on Pride & Prejudice (not a true retelling but a hat-tip to the book and the movies for fans of Jane Austen). I suspect this will also be a cute series as more of the Aussie sisters with their Austen-obsessed mother find their own romances in future books.

When I finish a book, I usually try to find one word to explain my general feelings about it. The word for this book is "delightful". It’s perfect for lovers of Pride and Prejudice (of course), has all of the cozy, small English village vibes, and pairs perfectly with a warm cup of tea on a cold evening. Though it’s not a Pride and Prejudice remake, it still has all the perfect aspects of a grumpy, misunderstood Mr Darcy and lovely English setting.

Carolyn Miller infuses the beauty of simple pleasures into the fabric of the story, all while stirring up a lovely little romance. From the sweet excitement of the main character moving to a new country, to the tedious process of restoring a garden to its former glory, I couldn’t help but be enchanted by the little details of this novel! I especially knew I was going to love this when I read the optimistic main character, Liv, say “Beatrix Potter fantasy” in reference to the English village this story was set in. I’m also not ashamed to admit that I looked at manors for sale in England more than once during and after reading Not Exactly Mr. Darcy… I don’t know how you could even resist!

Okay, I just finished reading this and the last 20% of the book was filled with so many butterfly inducing moments. It was so sweet, and very clean! 🥰

I loved the faith elements in this book, which were not overly preachy, but they were consistently there through the book - themes of trusting God, even when the worst happens. And of course I loved all of the Pride and Prejudice references (and in the author's note at the end it was fun to discover what inspired this story too).

It did take me a while to get into this book, but it didn't take long before it reslly captured my attention. So many of the characters were so sweet and cute...even if they didn't start that way. 😉

The only thing I didn't like as much was a big part of the plot including assumptions/miscommunication/lack of communication, but it was enough to deter me from enjoying the rest of the book.

Overall, if you're a Jane Austen loving bookworm looking for a quick, light read, with a clean romance that'll give you butterflies...definitely give this one a try! 😊

This lovely book is just right for fall reading! I've always been a fan of Carolyn Miller's Regency novels, so I had a wonderful time exploring this one that beautifully combines Regency history with a modern-day twist inspired by Jane Austen, set against the charming backdrop of England. It's a heartwarming romantic comedy with a fresh take on Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Not Exactly Mr. Darcy offers a gentle, faith-filled journey that whisk us away to the countryside with a hero's hidden charm and a heroine's unwavering determination. The story is filled with endearing misunderstandings, a slow-burn romance, and themes of opposites attracting, proximity, and secret identities. Olivia’s family feels very Austen-inspired—her mother is named Elizabeth Bennett, and all her daughters are named after Austen characters. Throughout, Christian themes add warmth, capturing the cozy, caring spirit of a small town. While it’s a sweet, clean Christian romance, it also touches on more serious topics: Liam, a widower, shares that his wife had a lover she ran off with before her tragic accident, and she was pregnant at the time. If you enjoy contemporary romances with a touch of Jane Austen, I think you’ll really love this book!

Love Jane Austen? Are you a sucker for anything Pride & Prejudice related? Do you also enjoy a solid Christian Fiction novel with faith messages woven throughout? Then "have I got a book for you"! :)

Carolyn Miller's latest novel "Not Exactly Mr. Darcy" had delightful little nods to some of the best parts of P&P--including alluding to a supposed "forever immortalized" fountain kiss scene. Throughout the book, you were just WAITING for it to come to life. (It did!)

I loved the premise of the book and it didn't feel like "another adaption". It was just a delightful read and the messages of faith and continuous mentions of the trusting in God was refreshing when so many in the genre seem to be devoid of solid Christian characters.

George was probably my favorite character. :)

Happily giving 4 stars and looking forward to the next books in the series!

What a fun and sweet story, full of swoony Pride & Prejudice vibes and quaint English village charm with a dash of Aussie flair. Not Exactly Mr. Darcy is another emotionally layered romance from Carolyn Miller, and it’s sure to delight you whether you’re an Austen fan or not. (But if you are, you’ll especially enjoy the little nods here and there to the P&P films as well as to the acknowledgment of its rabid fandom.)

I loved getting to know Olivia Bennett and her family, which makes me all the more eager for the other sisters’ stories to come. But I’m getting ahead of myself… We instantly sympathize with Olivia and are solidly on her side when she loses the teaching contract she so badly wanted as our story begins. And when we follow her to England to care for her Gran who’s having surgery, we hold our breath in anticipation of her inevitable meet-cute with her ‘not exactly Mr. Darcy’. And oh it’s a good one, complete with a grumpy hero, a mistaken identity, a ‘ferocious’ dog, a manor house in need of restoration (and funds), and a P&P movie tie-in. If you’re saying ‘yes please’ right about now, you’re not alone. My KissingBooks heart was positively giddy at this point with all the delicious possibilities.

Liam, our aforementioned grumpy hero, is a prime example of the admonishment to be kind because everyone is fighting a hard battle that we can’t always see. He’s been through it the last few years, so it’s understandable that he’s pretty protective of his heart and of Hartbury Hall. Olivia is smart, savvy, and creative – full of great ideas to help reopen Hartbury Hall and market it to its best advantage with a limited team of helpers (who are an engaging mix of personalities) & an even more limited budget. On top of that, she’s warm-hearted and friendly and not afraid to do the work, earning the respect and admiration of the manor house volunteers and Liam’s sister (and eventually Liam too). Though Liam and Liv aren’t the fast friends that she and his sister are (thanks to all the havoc Liv’s wreaking on his house and his heart), sparks of attraction are definitely there from the beginning. And it’s quite fun to watch these two clash at first because you know all that tension is building up to some mighty fine kisses eventually. (And it does!) Their story is a lovely combination of romance, friendship, faith, and wit, and I really loved how it all plays out.

Bottom Line: Carolyn Miller has such a gift for creating characters you root for – especially when they’re messy, guarded, and learning to trust again (or for the first time) – and she’s done so again in Not Exactly Mr. Darcy. This sweet and faith-infused romance brims with charm, from the wonderfully-drawn supporting characters to the modern-but-Austenesque setting and the swoony tension between our emotionally-layered leads. I had great fun watching Olivia quietly win over everyone around her while Liam fought a losing battle with his own heart. But even more than that, I loved their respective – and honest – growth across the novel too. If you love Pride & Prejudice, quaint English villages, friendly heroines, and grumpy heroes who absolutely do not want to fall in love but do anyway, Not Exactly Mr. Darcy is going to make your reader heart very happy.

This book took me by surprise as I’m not a big Jane Austin fan but I really enjoyed it. The characters are great with lots of push and pull which ensues with moments that had me laughing and others that had my heart sighing. I loved the originality of the story and I felt like I was walking the halls of Hartbury Hall as well as the paths of the gardens. That regency Christmas ball had me swooning and looking for a fainting couch. Well written story that flows well and ebbs right into your heart. This is the first book in The Silver Teapot series and now I’m anxiously awaiting more. A book of faith, family, secrets, sweet romance, learning to trust, and a village you want to live in. I suggest adding this to your must read pile.

I adored this book! From the old stately manor house that needed sprucing up to the owner who was broken not only in heart but also in spirit. From the grandmother and her community of friends to Liv who was searching for her next step in life. I loved it all.

The meet cute between Liv and Liam was painful indeed, as were many of their early interactions. Liam was very wounded and Liv’s enthusiasm was a lot for him to take at first. I really enjoyed the growth between these two, including a couple of scenes that were so convincingly written, my heart actually ached for Liv as she struggled to understand why Liam was treating her the way he was. These two also had some heart meltingly sweet moments together.

This was such a fun read! I’m looking forward to reading the stories for Liv’s sisters in future books.

I did not expect to like this one as much as I did. It was very relaxing, entertaining but also had some deeper moments with the characters dealing with baggage affecting their fears and boundaries around their hearts.

Olivia had such a positive bubbly personality and it was easy to be swept away in her lively outlook on life. Nothing seemed like a challenge for her.

Liam was a very brooding but dashing gentleman and as his history was revealed to the readers.

I enjoyed all the interactions between these characters and especially how Olivia broke through the walls Liam had built just with her easy going joyful attitude.

If you are looking for an easy, fun and comfy book to have a break from life, you need to pick this one up.

Delightful contemporary story with some Austen vibes woven throughout that will please readers of Ms. Miller's regency era stories. When a sweet heroine from Australia visits her grandmother in England, she finds herself leading the revival of a nearby estate. Throw in a mysterious grumpy gardener and readers will delight in a romance of opposites attract. As Liz works to restore the old estate, she finds that she just might be bringing new life to a broken heart as well.

I loved the humor and witty conversations that I have come to expect from Ms. Miller's stories, as well as the theme of hope and restoration that is woven seamlessly throughout. While the ending may be predictable, readers will be enchanted by Liz's and Liam's story as they reach their happy-ever-after ending. Although I always like to call it the beginning.

I’m a huge fan of Jane Austen and love reading books that celebrate her amazing work. This novel was such a fun and adorable romance. I particularly enjoyed the biblical worldview represented by the characters. This is a must read for Austen fans who enjoy clean romance. A sweet and fun romance novel with nods to Austen, and Pride & Prejudice.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I love that it started out in rural Australia, then the story continued in a rural village in England. The descriptive writing of the settings is very well written, and I love the different layers to each of the main characters.

The storyline is so homey and cosy, it really captures the joy of historical properties and rural living.

The author weaved Christian faith into the story in a very relatable and natural way.

I'm so pleased that this is the first book in the series, and I'm looking forward to reading the other books in The Silver Teapot series when they release.

Mentions of a character receiving ongoing treatment for cancer, and mentions of a character suffering from a heart attack. Not Exactly Mr. Darcy by Carolyn Miller was a delightful read.

When Olivia Bennett loses her job as a History teacher she has the opportunity to travel to England to care for her grandmother recovering from hip surgery. A journey where she meets grumpy Liam Brown, the caretaker of Hartbury Hall. One of England's great houses. The house was used in one of the productions of Pride and Prejudice. However the caretaker is hardly anything but gentlemanly.

First impressions are often not what they seem. When Liv becomes involved in the resurrection of Hartbury Hall, she finds all kinds of ways to promote the Hall. Liam's tragic story tugs at Liv's heart until she discovers Liam's real identity.

This was a great story. Full of wonderful characters and good dialogue. A sweet clean romance that blooms in a Jane Austen kind of way.

Another Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice adaptation! I liked this approach and I enjoyed reading this book. It was really good from beginning to the end. The storyline, characters and setting were very good. It was also a christian romance.

We have our Pride and Prejudice loving FMC, Olivia Bennet who travelled to England from Australia to take care of her grandmother after losing her teaching job. The MMC, Liam Browne, a mysterious 'gardener' who's more than he seemed. He had a traumatic past and he was quite grumpy. Then, Liv took a shine to Hartbury Hall and was determined to make the legendary building prosper. From there, she gained the love and admiration of the small town and Liam.

I liked the MCs relationship. It was cute closed door and really nice. The chemistry between them was okay too. However, I would have liked it if they had more time as partners in the book. They only came together towards the ending. I liked the renovations at Hartbury Hall, though, it was really nice and it felt like I was present.

After getting fired from her history teaching job in Australia, Austen enthusiast Olivia Bennett heads to England to care for her aging grandmother in a small town where Pride & Prejudice was once filmed at a storied estate. However, the estate is falling into disrepair, and its grumpy caretaker, Liam, seems determined to keep Olivia at arm’s length. When the townsfolk devise a plan to pair Liv and Liam to help rejuvenate the estate and prevent its sale to outsiders, the two reluctantly team up—only for things to begin shifting between them.

I really enjoyed the general atmosphere of the story. The setting was lovely and the small-town charm worked well. The premise had so much potential: a historic estate, an Austen-loving heroine, and an enemies-to-lovers dynamic with a grumpy gardener. However, the execution fell a little flat for me. The pacing felt slow, and I never fully felt the chemistry or emotional buildup I was hoping for. Despite the great setup, the story didn’t hold my attention the way I wanted, and I ended up skimming toward the end. That said, the overall vibe was sweet and comforting, and the setting in particular was great.

Overall, this is a charming read that fans of Jane Austen or cozy, lightly historical-feeling romances may enjoy!

Not Exactly Mr. Darcy by Carolyn Miller is the first in her new series The Silver Teapot. I’m a huge fan of Jane Austen and any book that hints at or retells one of her novels is a must read for me. Such was the case with this story. While it’s not a complete retelling there are definite nods to Pride and Prejudice.

In Not Exactly Mr. Darcy, Olivia, after a career disappointment, flies from Australia to England to help her Grandma recovery from surgery. What was meant to be a few weeks turns into months as she becomes involved in the reopening of a rundown estate that was once used as the location for Pemberley in a Pride and Prejudice film. As Olivia heads up the project to reopen the house, she works alongside estate owner Liam who she assumes to be the caretaker. After a rocky start their relationship begins to blossom.

I loved watching the community come together to restore the house to its former glory. Appreciated the reminders to rest in God and let Him work His sovereign plan in life and healing. The relationship between Liam and Olivia was a sweet slow build. I’m definitely looking forward to more in this series especially since the next book will have nods to Emma which is my favorite Austen novel.

Her grandmother makes a way for Olivia to help bring Harbury Hall back to life for visitors. Her only issue is with the gardener, Liam Browne.

What a delightful novel to get lost in with many lovely Jane Austen connections! Olivia and Liam were endearing characters with wonderful chemistry, good banter, and sweet romance. They both grew and matured in the story making them so loveable. I adored their English village and all the villagers. The faith thread was natural, well written, and naturally woven into the story. I especially enjoyed visiting Harbury Hall and the author did an amazing job helping me feel like I was walking the grounds and touring the house. I enjoyed getting to know Olivia’s family and I look forward connecting more with her sisters in future books in the series.

Not Exactly Mr. Darcy By Carolyn Miller is a wonderful book with sweet romance, engaging characters, and beautiful redemptive themes. The book is immersive with the author’s writing style. I highly recommend Not Exactly Mr. Darcy by Carolyn Miller.

Calling all Jane Austen fans for this sweet story that takes place in Hartbury Hall, England where Pride & Prejudice had its famous Mr. Darcy scene, you will love this sweet tale. Grumpy meets sunshine, dilapidated Regency home meets Liv Bennett and her type-A agenda to fix it up with historical accuracy and love. While the pace moved slowly at times, this fits the Regency flow of a classic book, and plot twists including meddlers, love triangles, Inheritance, and betrayal keep the reader wanting to see how it all comes together. Pride & Prejudice fans will love this retelling of a familiar, modernized love story and the witty banter that carries Liam & Liv to the end of their renovation project.

Okay, so now I need to re-watch the Pride & Prejudice movie to see the infamous fountain scene. 😉 If you are a Pride & Prejudice fan, than this is the book for you.

There were a few quotes that made me smile and even laugh out loud. "Sorry, my face spoke without my permission." is one in particular that made me smile. I enjoyed getting to know the cast of characters as well.

I enjoyed the story and the faith content that was sprinkled throughout that felt very natural. This is my first read by this author and I am happy to say that I will definitely be reading more and look forward to the next book in this series.

If you're looking for a sweet, squeaky clean romance with an Austen-ish story line, this one is for you! Olivia Bennet just recently lost her job and her family enlists her to go to England to help take care of her grandmother post surgery. While there, she is excited to visit Hartbury Hall, once used in a film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. She drives out to the property and sees that the gate was unlocked so she thought she was allowed to visit. She quickly discovers that isn't the case as she bumps into Liam Browne, who is the caretaker of the family estate, and leaves with a huge dislike of Liam and his rude manners. The locals would like nothing more for the estate to open back up to tourists, as it was a boost to the local economy, and with a bit of reluctance, Olivia and Liam are roped into working together to reopen Hartbury Hall to visitors and make it profitable once again. As they spend more time together, they realize that perhaps first impressions are not always as they seem and everyone deserves a second chance at love.

I needed a light romantic read and Not Exactly Mr. Darby by Carolyn Miller fit the bill. Wonderful characters, beautiful setting, a wounded male character, and a female character who didn't know his true identity. The play on Jane Austin's novel Pride and Prejudice is wonderfully crafted. An un-putdownable read.

Grabbed by the title - kept entertained by the banter! This is a super fun and quick read for anyone who loves a "pride" and "prejudice" themed story! It flowed quickly and I enjoyed reading this!

A sweet, faith-filled romance about a lovely young woman who helps restore a historic estate and unwittingly falls for its owner! I enjoyed escaping to England in this novel, and while it’s not Regency romance, I’d recommend it for Regency fans if only for the nostalgia and homages to the time period.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this! I just felt some of the Christian references were thrown in there for the sake of making the book "Christian fiction." I also thought the ending felt pretty rushed. But otherwise it was a cute read!
