""... But it doesn't mean we stop loving them -- ever. We just keep going and pray for... a change of heart."
"Change of heart," She sighs audibly. "That's what they need."" (ch 9)

The Golden Son, Baldry, is a gladiator. His real name, from his former life, is Jared. In the arena, he fights genetically engineered monsters created by the Grigori, fallen angels. He was once a half-angel, half-human, a nephilim, but somehow lost his powers and most of his memory. His wife, Grace, is dead (or so he believes), and it pains him still. Grace's mother, Shannon, knows of his past and has something up her sleeve.

Supreme Lord of the United Earth, Grigori Zazel (Azazel), is Jared's father. He was supposed to kill him to stop a war, stop him from annihilating Isreal. Jared had failed and has to now switch things up and try to stop him through a peace-talks mission.

Grace, still alive, believes Jared is now in league with the enemy. She is part of a rebellion trying to fight against the Grigori and Zazel and the new cure, and all the levels of Hell and havoc they're making of the world with all of the changes.

This book contains a new dystopian fantasy world with Biblical references, giant avatars, a prophecy, holograms, technologically advanced weapons, robots, cloning, fallen angels, demons, singing, and a love tested. Seems like an odd combination, but it works in this story. It's fascinating!

For some reason, I thought this was a standalone, but it's actually book 5 in a continuous series. Oops, that's completely on me for the oversight. After reading this book, I do recommend starting from book 1... So you don't get sheepishly confused about some things and have to fumble around, like I did.

Forever is Book 5 in the Forlorn Series by Gina Detwiler. This is the last book in the series I think the author did an outstanding job of finishing every loose end. This wonderful series shows the end times. I thought the author followed the biblical timeline from the Bible while the story was clearly fictional. This book and series are fantastic and fast paced. The characters are well written and I enjoyed this book. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

isten, Forever didn’t just keep me on the edge of my seat—it threw me off it and left me gasping on the floor. Grace is out here fighting for the future of humanity, Jared is stuck in a nightmare battle with his evil angel dad, and oh yeah—the actual end of the world is knocking on the door. The drama? Explosive. The emotions? Gut-wrenching. The action? Non-stop. If you love dystopian chaos, impossible choices, and a love story that refuses to die, Forever is the finale you NEED. Grab it now, and may the apocalypse be ever in your favor. 🔥⚡📖

Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. Five stars are nowhere near what I feel this story is worth. Such an eye opening, heartfelt message overlays the epic journey of Grace, Jared and many others as they search for truth, each other and prepare for the true Lord’s final days to the final battle! Deception is rampant, molding people with many falsehoods, but Grace stays true as she fights for her freedom, and a way to return to Jared, whom she discovers is still very much alive, fighting for righteousness and preparing for war in the birthplace of the one true Lord. The ending will have you cheering and tearing! This epic journey will not be forgotten, nor will the message that resonates throughout the pages! Gripping, action packed, suspense filled with nail biting and breath holding scenarios, tissues may be needed!

Reality weds fantasy in this spiritual adventure

Pennsylvania author Gina Detwiler continues her popular YA supernatural novels - The Forlorn Series – with FOREVER, the concluding episode dealing with spiritual warfare with angels and demons – and young humans! For those new to this spiritually enhanced series, the characters continue to entertain, as this novel opens with the angel Michael: ‘I, Michael, prince of the heavenly host, guardian of Israel, have had just about enough of this. How long? I ask again as the Golden Son takes to the sand for the main event of the day…”HaIl Baldyr! Golden Son! Destroyer!”…His real name is Jared Lorn. Even he seems to have forgotten that.’ With that degree of lighthearted humor, this novel sails forth!

Providing the story, Gina offers a solid synopsis: ‘Grace Fortune leads the rebellion against the United Earth, devastated by the belief that her husband, Jared Lorn, has joined the dark side as the son of the ruthless Supreme Lord Grigori Zazel. But Jared, now known as the gladiator and demigod Baldyr, is locked in a desperate battle with his fallen angel father. His father's plan? To annihilate not just Israel but the entire world. As the apocalypse looms, will Grace and Jared find a way to reunite before the world is destroyed? Can they survive the coming devastation? And what happens when a new, even more terrifying enemy emerges—one who will exploit their love and humanity to bring about their downfall?’

Fine writing, excellent character sculpting, and an imaginative plot make this an extraordinary book – for both Young Adult…and adult readers!

This is the fifth and concluding novel in the popular Forlorn series. As it opens, Grace Fortune is in the midst of rebelling against the United Earth. She believes that Jared Lorn, her husband, has aligned himself with Grigori Zazel. In fact, Jared is now known as Baldyr, and he and father are engaged in a pitched battle with each other.

Will Grace and Jared reunite? And what will ultimately be Earth’s fate? These are the questions that the author endeavors to answer. The previous novels in this series have been an exciting preamble, but now that all the pieces are on the board and the stakes are the highest, the tension in this conclusion is turned up significantly. This is the not only the culmination of the Forlorn series but also represents a leap forward in the author’s writing style. The action sequences, dialogue, and pseudo-religious elements are all used to excellent effect. Readers should find this to be a more than satisfactory conclusion to this tale.

Finale with capital letters

What a wonderful finale to this saga! It was fast-paced, exiting, intense, and gripping, where readers were drawn into the same circle of doubt and confusion that Grace felt regarding Jared. I was particularly captivated by how, within such an exquisite work, theology, the apocalypse, and love play such important roles as they struggle to stay afloat in the middle of so much chaos. I was thrilled to find such complex character development in a young-adult book, it leads us through moments that are simultaneously reflective, hopeful, and chaotic, culminating in an ending unlike any other. This is an intelligent read, perfect for fantasy enthusiasts who appreciate stories that delve into complex relationships while delivering profound and thought-provoking message.

Extraordinary!

This is one of the best closers I've read in a long time, if you enjoy dark fantasy stories with a touch of apocalyptic elements and above all magical character development and interpersonal relationships, then this is the book to read!

Set against the backdrop of the apocalypse, the story is filled with tension, danger and crucial decisions with worldwide consequences that have a lot to do with the conflict created between Grace and Jared which adds a powerful emotional layer to the narrative.

Finally, in my opinion, the introduction of a new and more dangerous enemy ensures that the story does not become predictable and will keep you hooked until the last page, highly recommend this text!

A page-turning novel
“Forever” belongs to the saga “The forlorn” penned by Gina Detwiler where the end of times is still close. For this reason, the inhabitants of earth want to do something to prevent it. Grace Fortune and her husband, Jared, apparently have different plans but they strive to remain together throughout the chaos.
It's a story that combines tragedy, treason, blood, danger and love but at the end, you'll understand why the protagonists behave in that way. I found it captivating and interesting, in fact, there are some unexpected changes that make the story much more interesting. In a nutshell, if you enjoy intriguing and chaotic plots, then this saga is the ideal one for you.

Forever by Gina Detweiler is the dramatic fifth book in the Forlorn series. In this installment of the saga, the apocalypse is actually here and the action – which was fast-paced all along – picks up even more pace. Grace and Jared find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict, as Grace leads the rebellion and Jared (now the demigod Baldyr) has to decide what he stands for and whose side he will stand on before it is too late.

I enjoyed the author’s post-apocalyptic world that blends gritty action with supernatural and spiritual/religious themes. At times, I wish there was more focus on building out this world and exploring the layered themes in more depth. Fans of action novels, however, will most likely prefer the book’s plot-driven style.

Grace and Jared's journey will touch your heart. Each page will keep you engaged and reflective. The ending is truly satisfying; you'll be so happy to finish this book, and your heart will be full. Intense

Forever, from Gina Detwiler it’s a really emotional, super intense reading, and practically impossible to set down. It honestly feels like the series' heart because everything totally comes together. Characters make truly massive sacrifices, the choices are incredibly painful, but absolutely meaningful. I adored how the story highlights love, loyalty and always that sliver of hope, even surrounded by brokenness and what appears unjust. Though the dystopian world stays dark and pretty unsafe, it was the relationships that truly grabbed me. Certain moments made me almost tear up. The reading flows seamlessly but carries major power. Forever delivers a powerful conclusion demonstrating how love and courage triumphs, no matter what.

Forever is a heart-pounding conclusion to The Forlorn series, throwing readers straight into the chaos of an apocalyptic showdown. Grace is leading the rebellion, convinced that Jared—now the formidable Baldyr—has turned against her, while Jared fights a war of his own against his fallen angel father. The emotional depth and high stakes had me completely hooked, and I loved how the book balanced intense action with the raw, complicated love between Grace and Jared. If you enjoy dystopian stories with epic battles, star-crossed lovers, and world-ending stakes, this finale delivers in every way.

Forever is a thriller that captivated me from page one. The story resembles some of the jewels of cinema, such as Star Wars and Gladiator, bringing back that spark of rebellion and freedom. Detwiler does a great job rounding up the characters and their backgrounds while describing the intricate political scenario. It is a detailed book that contemplates every possibility and keeps the reader hooked for hours with its intensity.

Overall, it was a fantastic read. I recommend it to people looking for an engaging and demanding story, perfect for getting lost in a new reality. I wouldn't describe it as original; it's more of a well-rounded story.

I have to say that author Gina Detwiler always surprises me with each book in this series. ''Forever'' is, like the others, full of action, suspense, and plot twists you can not imagine. A new enemy is emerging and will put to the test the love between Grace and Jared. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was the description of each setting and how exciting it is to imagine them. Also, I would like to highlight the narrative because it engages you from the beginning. I highly recommend this series of books. Do not stop reading this series from the first book onwards; they are exciting.

Just finished the final book in the series and it was quite the ride. The author wraps up a wild and emotional story with a lot of emotion and also a lot of action. Chaos is everywhere and the stakes are super high.
Personally, I think I enjoy how personal it felt, the love story between the characters, and how they cope with their own demons; it was a rollercoaster in a fast-paced novel. Every reader that has been following the series I think won't be disappointed with this last book.
Overall, I think the book is a powerful read, very unique and perfect for those looking to leave the real world for a bit.

Amazing book!

This book has everything a saga's conclusion should have, as it's full of emotions, epic battles, and moments that will remain in our memories forever. I loved all the growth the main character went through, from his dream of defeating a world-class villain to the loss of a great love that haunts him every day. Not only is it a fascinating story, but it's also a profound journey through faith, humanity, and, above all, the power of love in dark times. I really liked the way this book is written and each of the unexpected twists and turns that draw us deeper into the story and make us want to reach the end to truly see the outcome of this incredible story.

Great finale

I have been following The Forlorn Series, and reading this book left me astonished. Forever is my favorite book in the saga, and the perfect final for it. Gina Detwiler sets a great apocalyptic scenery, with deep character development just like in the previous books of the series. It has abundant visual descriptions, a lot of action and high energy. The narrative felt fast paced and interesting. The book has moments that are intense but also show deep emotional impact, especially at the end. I haven’t read any book before that could combine fantasy and religion so well. I would recommend reading the previous books to really enjoy everything that this one has to offer.

I enjoyed reading Forever from The Forlorn Series because it feels emotional and meaningful. The book is about love, loss, and choosing hope even when things feel broken. I read it during a rainy weekend, and it matched the mood of the story very well. The characters feel real, and their struggles stayed with me after I closed the book. I liked how the author shows that pain and love can exist together. Some scenes made me feel sad, but others gave me comfort. The story moves at a calm pace, which helped me connect more with the feelings. This book reminded me that healing takes time and that holding on can be an act of courage. It is a touching and thoughtful read.

This book makes you stop and think about the state of our world.
Are we in the End of Times? Grace is looking for her husband. Is he still the man she married or has he joined the bad side?
But it is a lot deeper than that. Family drama overload.
Will Grace find Jared before it is too late?
This is a very good read, well written & so scary with all of the things going on in our world. Can this all be closer to the truth than we are willing to acknowledge.
