Dalia Davies fell into monster romance--almost by accident--and loves it here. She drinks her weight in tea every day and has been told on numerous occasions that she “knows too much”.
She pairs old gods, monsters, and aliens with human women who get exactly what they want and maybe a little more than they came for.
Brought up on fairytales read while hiding in the back stacks of her small-town library and sneaking in creature features at friends' homes, she always wanted a way to meld two fantasies into one. When not writing, she plays the banjo poorly, dreams of traveling the world, and avoids large crowds and loud noises.
Living in the southwestern US, she lets the outside heat permeate her stories and hopes they leave you panting.

This is, of course, a pen name. It is one of many I write under. You can find my other works as:

This book was everything I was hoping and so much more!

It gives you even more insight to this little village and the “monster” they’re all so afraid of.

I loved the backstory of how this family of vampires has impacted the village.

The FMC, is a total baddie and I love how fierce and loyal she is.

Of course I love the MMC, his obsession and devotion to his mate… how he wants to figure out how to court her is adorable.

And of course this book is HOT… like melt the hinges off the doors hot.

This little series is incredible!

A serviceable monster romance but it definitely overuses the words "velvet folds" and is a bit too short.

PLOT:

Lucia is a strange witchy woman living in a town guarded by a vampire. Each blood moon a sacrifice is sent to the ritual stone to provide sustenance to the vampire. When her sweet and innocent friend is forced to be a sacrifice, she goes in her stead and a monster finds his mate.

THOUGHTS:

- First off the title gave me 80's romance novel vibes and at first I thought it was just a tongue in cheek use of the phrase.... Except we literally read it like 50 times during the smut scenes and it got old for me SUPER fast.

- the story is really short but the world is pretty interesting. It's set in a sort of fantasy village and we find out there are different races like monster hunters etc. so that was cool.

- Lucia being older (36) and growing herbs and being good with plants was a good touch (we don't see that super often) but I found her personality a bit odd and a lot of it just left me with more questions. She's quiet but like super aggressive / violent too? She's presumably been going to the castle for years to take care of the flowers, but even though they are mates, the connection was never felt until after. I didn't get why she didn't just stay with Adrick, like her dad is older and they can hire help, why was she still living under his thumb at 36? Why was she just allowed to walk in and out of a legit vampire owns the castle? Are people afraid of him? Is she a witch or just really good with her hands? Why is she so close to Felica? We don't see them have anything in common. What's with the bell ringing and berries on the door Etc.

- Adrick was a cool character but I think we just needed more! We know he's a monster, he's big, has wings and has a huge d..... That's basically it? We don't get a sense of him as a person, likes and dislikes or anything aside from lust.

- the smut was ok but not that spicy IMO. They're the size difference and all but with the overuse of "velvet folds" and the simple descriptions it kind of felt bland to me?

- lastly, I think this could have been so much better with more editing and a longer length. I noticed typos and incorrect grammar and the story itself felt a bit rushed. There's so much random stuff happening and characters we hear about but it just ends too fast for the feeling of a meaningful connection.

So this is my favorite out of the two, we have more story, more background and plot twist, I love how their relationship progressed over the time.

And I’m guessing Adrik is the 4th son. Love how patient and kind was with Lucia.

I hope we get to know more of the 5 siblings and hopefully the story of their parents.

If you've read Velvet Steel and loved it, this is a prequel you won't want to miss! Did Dalia Davies use Velvet Folds 50+ times in this book? Yes. But was this book also crazy spicy with some wholesome, romantic moments tossed in? Also yes! While there were a few small conflicts and points of danger tossed in, this was overall a light, quick and spicy read!

Delightful. Utterly, ridiculously delightful. Building more lore for this delicious world and being endlessly titillating? Perfection. Dalia Davies does it again. I SNICKERED for hours. You can't help it.

I read Velvet Steel last year and was absolutely intrigued by the world and wanted more. Velvet Folds was a great addition to the universe and i loved the plot twist and take on vampires and their mates.

Love that Lucia is 36. She has responsibilities, she just can't fly into the night with Aldrik. Though not a fan of the self sacrificing for a village that doesn't value you.

I get the schtick but hate the repetition of velvet folds and that there was no epilogue.
