You know those books that make you want to cry so hard that you'll start to wonder if reading really is a hobby or just a way for you to punish yourself??????? Well, Against the wind by Amaka Azie isn't one of those books. I was smiling from the moment they met each other which is not immediately to the end.

This book made me happy and as I have always mentioned in my reviews, I'm an emotional reader. Did I feel angry at uju for having the man of my dreams? Sure but kudos to her.
I liked the fact that she didn't have to change who she was at her core to attract him but he loved her for who she is and that's a source of hope for us single Pringles 😌😌😌😌.
Anyways, this book is a 7.5/10 for me.

General thoughts : It felt like reading an episode of grey anatomy, it was such an enjoyable read.

Book overview :
Uju is on mission , After losing her best friend to plastic surgery, she vows to close down every cosmetic clinic and raise awareness of the dangers plastic surgeon can inflict on a person.

In her opinion, plastic surgeon are money hungry individuals that have to be stopped!
Dr David , the youngest surgeon and partner at blossom hill clinic has been assigned to stop Uju from tarnishing the clinics reputation. Uju is not an easy person to convince but when he offers her to observe him at work , she sees the heart he puts in his work.
She realises that her opinion might be based on misinformation.

Both Uju and Dr David weren’t ready to be bitten by the love bug .

This story isn’t without drama and laugh out loud moments!

A gripping, emotional story that blends romance with social issues. Uju Emordi is on a mission to shut down Nigeria’s cosmetic surgery industry after losing her best friend due to complications, but everything changes when she meets Dr. David Njokwu, a kind, passionate surgeon who challenges her beliefs.

This book explores grief, healing, self-worth, and body image with depth and heart. Amaka Azie’s writing is sharp, the chemistry is real, and the message is clear: your body is yours, and confidence starts from within. A bold, emotional, and satisfying story. The romance between Uju and David is slow, sensual and sweet. I blushed so many times while reading this book. And trust me, there are a lot of turns and scenes you wouldn’t expect. Overall, this book was such a nice read and it’s worth it.

David Njoku, a plastic surgeon, clashes with podcaster Uju Emordi, who is anti-cosmetic surgery after losing a friend to a botched procedure. Spending a week at his hospital changes everything — for her views and her heart.

This story balances romance, grief, forgiveness, and the real dangers of cosmetic surgery, while also showing its life-saving side through reconstructive cases.

Chocolate cake dates, pranks, slow-burn chemistry, and drama (yes, there’s an ex!) make this a satisfying, swoony read.

I enjoyed reading this book. I learned the various types of cosmetic surgery aside from BBL and understood the reason behind some people's intention to get certain surgeries.

I love the emphasis on the need to conduct thorough research before undergoing any form of cosmetic surgery and being bold enough to ask necessary questions when needed, because a good surgery alleviates your fears.
The prank between siblings was too expensive, what?! Those boys are criminals.

In the end, there is love in war. And no one can make you feel less except if you give them the power.

Amaka Azie never disappoints!

This story follows David and Uju in a captivating enemies-to-lovers journey. Watching David challenge Uju’s perception of plastic surgery and seeing them discover an unexpected love made for such a heartwarming read.

David is definitely my new book boyfriend!
