Ladies left at the altar… a vanishing groom who has taken more than their hearts… a mortician determined to set matters right.
Mortician Phoebe Astin and her brothers, Julius and Ambrose, of The Economic Undertaker loved the chilly winter weather; it was much more befitting to wearing dark suits and burying the dearly departed. However, not all that were buried remained that way, notably two young ladies who appear in spirit form to Phoebe, claiming to have died from heartbreak after being left at the altar, their fortunes stolen.
Determined to help them get justice, Phoebe provided a tip to her beau, Detective Stone, to catch the cad. But suddenly, the weather was not all that was proving to be chilly when, for the first time, Detective Stone dismissed Phoebe’s clue; Julius was ambivalent about her hurt; and an angry Ambrose was most out of sorts. Regardless, there was a cad to be caught, and being dead was no excuse for letting crime go unpunished.
Ideal for fans of Deanna Raybourn, Cara Devlin, Irina Shapiro, and Wendy Vella.

Love this series! It’s so rare, as an Australian reader, to find books not only set in this country, but in my state, and a city I’m familiar with?… well, that’s as rare as hens teeth (or just about).
Once again, we follow the adventures of Phoebe Astin, and her immediate family, with the occasional POV from other characters that round out the investigation, as they try to solve a ‘mystery-of-the-week’ style case. Fun, fast paced and utterly charming.
The books are free of graphic violence and there is no sexual content, so it is quite refreshing to read a book that focuses on a good plot, great characters, and some rather unconventional occupations for ladies in the later part of the 19th century. I find these books just a great way to relax - no phones, no tv or any other distractions to divert the characters attention. Anyway, this is a series that has to be read from the start to get the most out of the books as there are a lot of happenings from previous stories that are mentioned in each of the following books.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading The Lady Mortician's Visions series. They are thrilling, they keep me guessing, and make me smile and laugh. I recommend the entire series for an easy fun read. I also love how Helen Goltz intertwines actual history within her fictional stories. Thanks for the great read. Kathy Brazzle
The characters are so fantastic and we learn something new about them with every new book. The idea of a mortuary and its family being the center of these books is so unique. I can’t wait to read the next instalment!
This author deserves more than 5 stars! I've enjoyed everything she's written and look forward to more. This family has so much more to share, and I will be right there with them. Well done!
The mortician Phoebe speaks with spirits. Most want help to find their murderer or to let family know of something. Now they want girls to know that men are leaving them at the altar after taking their monies.
