She’s bound to a prince she’s never met. He’s hiding behind a mask, fighting for her heart. Can love defy the curse and rewrite their future?
Eleanor doesn’t run her life. Trapped in a web of expectations and suffocated by others’ choices for her future, she’s thrust into an arranged marriage to a prince she’s never met. As she grapples with upholding her obligation, meeting her future husband’s head guard makes her question what she truly wants even more.
Joash is haunted by the mistakes of his past. As he fights to redeem his kingdom and himself, his future bride arrives at the palace with an obvious distaste for their upcoming marriage, driving him to prove he’s not the man he once was. When he poses as a guard to gain Eleanor’s favor, his intentions are noble if tangled.
As Eleanor’s feelings for the guard deepen, she wrestles with finding the courage to claim her own future and follow her heart. Meanwhile, Joash must confront his past and fight to let his true self emerge above the weight of his reputation. He also battles the curse threatening the kingdom, with time running out to make things right.
Will Eleanor find the strength to choose her own destiny and her own love? Can Joash rewrite his kingdom’s fate while winning her heart? Or will evil finally claim victory, shattering everything they’ve fought for?

Emotional tone, romance setup, and character tension. Queen of Fate by Megan Lynn Rose is a soft, emotional fantasy novella that blends arranged marriage tension, hidden identity, and a slow unfolding romance wrapped in destiny and duty.
Eleanor is caught between obligation and autonomy, forced into a future she didn’t choose, while Joash—haunted by his past—tries to prove he is worthy of redemption and love.
The story shines in its emotional restraint and quiet tension. The “masked guard” trope adds a layer of intrigue, especially as Eleanor begins to connect with someone who may not be who he seems.
What stands out most is the focus on choice vs fate, and how both characters slowly begin to challenge the paths set for them.
This novella includes:
* arranged marriage trope * hidden identity romance * slow emotional burn * redemption arc hero * fate vs free will themes * court intrigue and curse elements
It’s a gentle but emotionally engaging fantasy romance that sets the foundation for a larger story world.
This story was a mix of intriguing, sweet, dark, and light-hearted (at the same time), and I fully enjoyed it! I rooted for the characters all the way; Joash is such a lovable cinnamon roll, and Eleanor's emotional struggles are so relatable. The climax had me shivering at the edge of my seat. (I'm also always grateful for a clean fantasy romance.) Though I haven't read the Broken Kingdom series, I'm sure this makes a great prequel to the overall story.
Obviously this book was amazing. And obviously I’m saying that because I’m the author. 😅 Eleanor and Joash, your story was a surprise to me, but I’m so glad I got to tell your story and now I get to share you with the world. ❤️
