About the author

People remember American writer Washington Irving for the stories " Rip Van Winkle " and " The Legend of Sleepy Hollow ," contained in The Sketch Book (1820).

This author, essayist, biographer and historian of the early 19th century wrote newspaper articles under the pseudonym Jonathan Oldstyle to begin his literary career at the age of nineteen years.

In 1809, he published The History of New York under his most popular public persona, Diedrich Knickerbocker.

Historical works of Irving include a five volume biography of George Washington (after whom he was named) as well as biographies of Oliver Goldsmith, Muhammad, and several histories, dealing with subjects, such as Christopher Columbus, the Moors, and the Alhambra, of 15th-century Spain. John Tyler, president, appointed Irving to serve as the first Spanish speaking United States minister to Spain from 1842 to 1846.

tre racconti di fantasmi davvero piacevoli e super scorrevoli!! conoscevo già La Sposa Cadavere ed Il Mistero di Sleepy Hollow per via delle trasposizioni cinematografiche e leggere le storie da cui sono tratti è stato davvero molto interessante e le illustrazioni meravigliose di Loputyn non hanno fatto altro che migliorare l’esperienza di lettura🩷

Illustrazioni stupende di Loputyn accompagnano tre celebri racconti di Schutze e Irving, in cui atmosfere gotiche e macabre fanno da cornice ad amori impossibili.

Col caldo di questi giorni, leggere tre storie classiche da brividi è la scelta giusta per sopportare l'afa e sognare il cambio stagionale. Considerando l'apporto grafico di Loputyn all'inizio di ogni racconto, artista italiana dallo stile apprezzatissimo che ho conosciuto da relativamente poco ma che non abbandonerò tanto presto, mi sarei aspettata la presenza di ulteriori illustrazioni, anche solo due, all'interno degli stessi, giusto per dare fiato alla narrazione e rappresentare le scene chiavi delle vicende scritte quale perfetto accompagnamento. Ciò non toglie che il libriccino sia una chicca da sfoggiare nella propria libreria.
