Another wonderful book by this author! This is part two to the Pensatore series, so please make sure you go back and read the first one which is called Giovanna.
It is more like a prequel and definitely necessary to read so you can understand Ashlyn’s life and how she came to be.
I was lucky enough to read this before it was published and honestly, this is even better than the first book, but both are great. Once again, this is a wonderful adventure read with great world building. Once you get started, I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down.
Sooooo, this is definitely a gear change and a half from Giovanna! This one is daaark....really dark, but it is also absolutely engrossing. This is definitely not the gentle flowing stream from Giovanna, more like being dragged down the rapids in a fast slowing river and hurtling off the edge of a waterfall.
I loved Giovanna and couldn't wait to see where it went, and I was far from disappointed. This is a then and now. The story of Ashlynn is absolutely devastating. Blighted by dark magic and a lonely childhood started Ashlynn on a desperate journey for love, and the horrendous repercussions of that love gone wrong. With all that Ashlynn has endured, can she be saved from herself?
The writing style is great, a very raw feeling to this while still maintaining the stunning world building and a fantastic set of characters. One of the joys of this one is the absolutely captivating use of plants. Both to heal and to weaponise. I kind of wish there was an option for this to come with illustrations, I'd love to see these awesome creations on the page! This is a really intense sequel in the series, but so so so good!!!
