Kwon Taekjoo, the top field agent of South Korea’s NIS, is assigned to uncover the truth behind Anastasia—a clandestine weapon-development project between Russia and North Korea. Though his well-honed instincts warn him against it, he takes the mission anyway. In Moscow, he crosses paths with Zhenya, a ruthless killer with deep ties to both politics and the criminal underworld. While Zhenya claims to be an ally, Taekjoo remains on guard, sensing something sinister beneath the surface. At the same time, Zhenya grows increasingly intrigued by Taekjoo’s resilience—his refusal to yield, no matter the cost.
I picked up the manhwa thinking I was just in for a quick little toxic romance before moving on to something more serious. I was wrong. I was very wrong. One season in, and I’ve already run my little self straight into a ten-book series because I just cannot get enough. 🤡
Codename Anastasia is technically a romance, but--at least in the beginning--it’s really 99% spy thriller about possibly the worst people you could ever know. Zhenya is fascinating. Taekjoo is magnetic. Their dynamic isn’t quite cat-and-mouse, but… cat-and-cat? I really can’t get enough. When I’m not busy with life, I’m thinking about them. I’m reading about them. I’m scrolling through art of them. I’m watching tiktoks about them. I thought the manhwa was incredible (and it really is a fantastic adaptation, now that I’ve read the source material), but the novel? I haven’t felt this engaged in ages.
Before you buy, be aware that this book contains only chapters 1–4 of Volume 1. Chapter 1 serves as a prologue. I didn’t know that, when i bought it from Amazon and i was little disappointed. I hope we will get more e-books (and hopefully an actual book) in the future. This could be a great opportunity to Seven Seas Entertainment.
Do I think any of this is going to end well? No. No I don’t. Are we headed toward a Caesar/Yiwon situation from Roses and Champagne? Oh most definitely. Am I still here? You betcha. It’s just too interesting. I’m locked in. I’m here until the end once again for this crazy ride. Zhenya is so insane and Taekjoo just will not die and doesn’t know when to back off which just makes him all the more interesting in Zhenya’s eyes. Taekjoo, I’ve been saying since you first heard of him to run the other way, but you’ve walked into the lion’s maw and nobody can save you now. Good luck my guy.
I should've checked if this is completed before starting but here we are I liked the plot very much, the whole search for the weapon, the action and stuff but damn I almost dropped it after that rape scene, I swear to god Zhenya what the fuck, there is a reason why Teakjoo is still alive I guess and why Zhenya so nonchalantly revealed all those stuff to him, but I'm shocked at how much this disturbed me (and I've read stuff like painter of the night which I loved lol)
I don't know how to rate it, I'll just leave it without the rating, but I'll continue with the season 2 because I'm curious okay
I already read the manhwa version of this BL novel, and so like I obviously everything 🗿🗿, but the real ground breaking plot wasn't involved in this volume.
And OBVIOUSLY the book is good cuz then why would I read the novel version of a manhwa where I know the plot and shit.
Top reasons I read the manhwa for: 1. I love my baby TAEK JOO and maybe 🤏Zhenya (jk I am OBSESSED WITH THIS MAN DON'T CARE HE IS A BLACK FLAG) 2. People who read the Novel + the manhwa were like 'we are not the sale so FOMO 3. The story of the manhwa is gooodd 4. As the manhwa ain't complete and still ongoing I wanna know what happens next.
I love this series so much. I've read the manhwa while waiting for other books in the series to come out. I love Zhenya and Takejoo. I think the contrast between them is amazing. Can't wait to read the second book and others yet to come.
This had me on chokehold! I knew the partner was bad news! Omg (I’ve read the og version) But I’m so happy there is an official English translation coming
