3/27/24 Review. Disclaimer- I have not read the Seven Seas version that was released 10/1/24.
I bought this ebook version earlier this year before I knew about the problematic issues surrounding the two authors. This is my review of the ebook released on Amazon (not SS version) which I read because I had heard good things about the TV series.

I highly suggest you do your own research before buying the book and supporting them. I'm leaving a review to bring awareness to this as Seven Seas recently announced they got the license to publish. Here's one link if you are interested in looking into it but there is a lot more info out there.

https://twitter.com/cessurluve_/statu...

I wanted to read the book before watching the series because I had heard great things about Kinn and Porsche. While I absolutely LOVE Porsche and the overall story was great, this novel has many flaws and red flags IMO…

🔴Ableist word choices (extremely derogatory)
🔴Dub-con (but much closer to rape) twice
🔴Major homophobia which is so weird to me in a BL/MM
🔴 Derogatory terms related to women
🔴 Overuse of the word bastard in this translation (994 times 🤣) Nothing necessarily wrong with the word bastard, it was just excessive in this translation
🔴 Editing in this version is pretty bad but still readable

This should have been a DNF but I wanted to know the obsession people had with Kinn and Porsche. I think I get it but Porsche deserves so much better.

KinnPorsche is one of those rare cases where the TV show adaptation is SO MUCH BETTER than the original novel. I picked this up last year because a) I really wanted to support Thai translations (and I hope we have more coming -- just better!) and b) I genuinely really enjoyed the TV adaptation (despite it not being perfect). I wanted to see what the original source material was like and omg... Let's just say that the TV writers deserved a raise for basically re-writing the entire thing. They improved on every single aspect. If there's something stupid in the TV show then chances are it came from the novel. And if there's something brilliant in the TV show then chances are it's because the TV team edited it.

The original novel isn't just bad... It was outright unbearable. I had to stop reading every page and just laugh/scream at how ridiculous it was! I really loved Kinn and Porsche as characters in the show, but I hated them in this novel because they were sooo awful as human beings and lacked any chemistry :') There is also no plot, no mafia tension, nothing but a bunch of immature young adults causing senseless havoc?? It was like a train wreck you couldn't look away from... except that eventually I did have enough and decided that I needed to stop torturing myself with this book.

So TLDR; if this premise interests you in any way then I highly suggest just watching the TV series and skipping this novel entirely. And if you want more KinnPorsche, then just rewatch the show or something because omg I seriously do not understand how the original was published.

DNF @ 250 pages

did i have less than 100 pages to go? yes. am i still DNFing? also yes

everyone has told me the drama for this is the most amazing thing in the world, but apparently the book is no where near as good cause what even was this?? the mc porsche was INSUFFERABLE. every single scene was him screwing something up, everyone being like hey dude you screwed this up, and then him throwing a temper tantrum when everyone actually wanted him to do his job or act like a civil human being. i was over it

i might try out the drama though, cause everyone truly seems to LOVE it

the! amount! of! exclamation! marks! were! driving! me! nuts!

this really reads like one of those bad but addictive fanfics. i wouldn’t say this is necessarily good? but it was entertaining.

i would also say the series is definitely better, even though it also had lots of flaws. i think the characters in here are walking red flags with no explanation. they’re also super unlikable which I didn’t experience while watching the series.

so if you enjoyed the series, you can just skip this.

Well, that wasn't very good. And to be fair, I hadn't actually expected it to be good. For context, I watched the Thai drama that was based on these books back in 2022, and while it definitely had its problems, it was still a good, bonkers, entertaining time, with characters that I eventually came to adore. Reading this made me realise just how much the show writers improved on the source material. Because this was bad.

The writing itself was both spare and immature, and I don't think the translation could have helped with that in any way. We mostly switched between Kinn and Porsche's first person POVs, but we would randomly get third person interludes from the villains or other side characters, which always felt intrusive and clunky. The characters were annoying and completely devoid of charm. I know Kinn is supposed to be an overbearing asshole, but jeez, it was a lot. Porsche's immaturity got on my nerves. I used to joke that the show conveniently forgot that Porsche was in university, but maybe that was for the best, because the uni scenes added nothing. Kinn still being in uni as well was surprising and kind of silly-feeling. Like, him getting his bodyguards to do his homework is so pathetic, omg. I did like getting to see more of Porsche's friends, and getting the actual background of the Time/Tay relationship. But it wasn't very entertaining. And I feel bad to say it, because he's my favourite character in the show, but Porchay was so annoying every time he showed up LMAO. I hated the characterisation of Tankhun, and there wasn't enough Kim.

The plot felt very uneven and haphazard, and IDK I'd have been interested if I hadn't already had an outline of how things would go. The book really gives you no insight into the mafia and their business, and it makes the bodyguards' jobs seem like a joke. IDK, to me, at least. I found myself getting bored a lot. Oh, and the first sex scene was even worse than I expected. Yikes.

Listened to the audiobook as read by Tommy Fuller, which was okay. He has a very aggressively American accent, which was a little jarring. Not that I would have wanted him to put on a Thai accent or anything, but it just sounded strange. Oh, well. I read this to satiate my curiosity, but now that I have, I don't think I'll continue with the series. The show was enough.

This is not a particularly good book. What little plot that exists is completely absurd, and a lot of other factors that one would expect from a published novel are completely missing.

But you know what? I had a lot of fun. This is a silly, over-the-top story, and I really enjoyed reading it. It's trash, but I'm a racoon.

However, I wouldn't recommend this for someone looking for an interesting story, or a good romance. The titular Kinn and Porsche are rather toxic, and I kind of want them to get together just because they'd be quarantining themselves from the rest of the dating pool. And obviously, while that's quite a bad thing in real life, it was rather entertaining to read in a novel that's already so absurd.

Anyway, I liked this, and will definitely continue the series. However, I will admit that I disliked haw rape-y things got at the end, so I do hope that doesn't continue in the subsequent novels.

The authors are horrible people (one search on SM is enough to find out) so I won’t spend money on this book. Also, mafia stories are my least favourite so it’s not even a hardship. From what I’ve read in other people’s reviews it must be really bad too. I hope this tanks in regard to other 7S books and they’ll get more fastidious about picking up problematic authors.

2,5 stelline

Fatto a caso... Proprio come succede nella serie Boris XD F4 basito verso l'orizzonte is the way XD).
No... Ciaone. Stammi bene... Forse mi rivedrai o forse no :)" Cioè... Nella serie ero "WTF? Porsche sei scemo o cosa?"
Contro ogni aspettativa ho amato Chan. Ho apprezzato Korn (?) No...
Brutto Kinn cattivo!! Go to horny jail!!
Spero di no
Come primo volume è bocciato. Prima o poi...
Se siete fan della serie un consiglio.... STATE ALLA LARGA DA STA PORCHERIA!!!

Although I am not a fan of the author(s) of this book, I wanted to read KinnPorsche to get more details about the characters from the series.
The actors did a marvelous job in the series. KinnPorsche was one of the first Thai dramas I watched a few years ago and it opened my eyes to another world out there. For this reason I’m going to continue reading the volumes until the end even with my feelings about the author(s).

I’m honestly enjoying the novel too. I like that Kinn and Porsche are so angry with each other and constantly violent. I kind of prefer them being a bit more rough and it leading to that breaking point that melts them out.
But also content warning for those that have never watched the series or read the book: attempted sexual assault and non con / dub con. I absolutely hated the scene in the series and was uncomfortable with it in the book as well. It’s at the end of the this first volume.

I’m not going to rate these because I almost feel it’s unfair to give a rating to an author(s) who doesn’t care about their international readers anyway. They don’t deserve us

It has its issues with problematic language and some homophobia/transphobia, but I feel most of that comes from Porsche and his issues.

Messy and chaotic, it was entertaining and I want to see where the story goes.

TW for the language issues above and dub + non-con. A character withdraws consent during sex

I didn't have high hopes going into this based on what I already heard but it still let me down from there. I listened to the audiobook and it took a while for me to get into the narrator. The writing was awful but I don't know if that was from the translation or the fact it was more noticeable as an audiobook. The main characters weren't interesting enough for me to care. The ending was not my cup of tea and I don't think I will continue.

Having lost his parents young, Porsche juggles going to college with bartending to support himself and his younger brother, Chay. One night on the job, he sees a man being beaten up in a nearby alley. Initially, he turns a blind eye, but when the victim asks for his help and says he'll pay him, Porsche agrees and saves him. The man in question turns out to be Kinn, the second son of a powerful mafia boss. Porsche wants nothing to do with Kinn after that night, but Kinn's father pushes his son to find and hire Porsche as a body guard, and as the two play a cat-and-mouse game, Kinn begins to want Porsche simply for the thrill of the hunt...and maybe something more. But as the bodyguard of a future mafia don, Porsche will have to contend with threats from enemies both outside the family and within.

I wanted to like this book, but it was kind of a letdown. I didn't like Porsche at all; his two settings are angry and horny, with the former stealing the spotlight in this first novel. He spends the first half of the book trying to evade Kinn, and the second half being a lousy bodyguard with only one or two positive showings. His poor performance also detracted from the story's logic: If someone hired by a mafia family was *that* bad at every task assigned to him, he would've been shot very quickly. Instead, Porsche's shenanigans are only met with Kinn's yelling, his fellow bodyguard colleagues' disdain and fists, and the occasional chuckle or exasperated sigh from Kinn's father. It made no sense to me how they could overlook the constantly terrible behavior that frequently made their family look bad.

Kinn is the more interesting of the two male leads, but his shift from borderline murderous rage at Porsche to lust and some slight caring happened too quickly for me, so it didn't feel believable. The author's attempt to portray him as sly and serious when it came to "business" matters fell flat since they were few and short in occurrence; there was just too much time spent on his playboy antics and not enough on his "future don" development. His interactions with Porsche, as I said, were mostly anger-fueled, and I felt zero chemistry between the two, even when Kinn started to flirt shamelessly with his bodyguard. The secondary cast was made up of mostly faceless names except for the main antagonist (?) of this volume, but even he was weird and felt very surface-level in terms of character depth. So, with no one to like or root for, I will not be continuing this series further.

This was not what I expected, but I absolutely loved it! The combination of Kinn's domineering mafia presence and Porsche's overall badassness is a phenomenal pairing!

Kinn is this hardass gangster helping to keep the 'family business' in prime condition. He is cornered in the alley outside of a bar one night when he runs into Porsche, who ends up saving him. After this Kinn becomes obsessed with Porsche becoming his bodyguard along with the urging of his father.

Porsche is a college student just trying to make his way in the world while providing for his little brother after their parents died. When he sees Kinn getting beat up in the alley his initial thought is to walk away, but then he goes back to help. After the second night of saving Kinn, he starts getting harassed by the other man trying to offer him a job. Their already tenuous acquaintance devolves into constant bickering soon after.

This story is full of twists and turns that are expected of any mafia/bodyguard romance, but it feels fresh in this story. The writing kept me entertained when the story focused on Kinn and Porsche, but a little too chaotic when Kuhn got involved (that man-child is going to flip and try to kill everyone, I can see it now.)

I'm super excited to see what will happen in the next volume because I can see things getting even more intense before these two find a happily ever after-if they even get one at all.

Okay, this book was completely meh to me, but it's probably because I have already seen the drama that was based off the books and I loved the drama and the book had things the show didn't and vice versa.

Kinn and Porsche are the typically definition of enemies to lover, Porsche just hasn't accepted it yet. Kinn being the second brother and the heir to his families businesses is super by the book and Porsche is the complete opposite. Porsche basically being forced to be Kinn's bodyguard annoyed me but I get why it happened.

Kinn's brother's are hilarious but I wish we got to see more of Kim, he's always the mysterious brother.

I so didn't like the cliffhanger of the book, I'm going to have to get the second one to see what else is different between the book and drama.

I really liked the writing and I'm so in love with Porsche and Chay, also love Porsche's friends!

Tankhun has a special space in my heart.

Kinn... I was mad at him almost all the time... And at the end when Kinn asked for permission I thought it was going to be okay, but then he didn't stop when Porsche repeatedly asked for him to stop. It started in a good way and ended in abuse. I'm mad at him right now.

The series was better. The characters really had more depth to them in the show. Read this in one day, so on the volume 2. The writing was okay. Most scenes in the book could have been glossed over.

it was ok. Not much plot so far but I enjoyed the banter between the two leads. Not sure if I'll continue the series though...

I devoured this in one sitting and I'm scrambling to start volume 2 but I need to sleep! Ha!

I love the first person alternating format so we can get inside both of Porsche's & Kinn's heads. The intensity of which they feel every emotion toward each other is all-consuming, and as much as I want to hate Kinn for all the same reasons Porsche does, knowing there's a complex character behind the mafia boss facade makes me want to see more of the passion and chemistry between them.

Knowing their first time together was under problematic circumstances, I can't wait for the point they come together willingly as lovers. There's a tough road ahead, as I'm sure Porsche will not come out of their first time together in love, or even in lust, with Kinn. There is bound to be shame and resentment there and my heart breaks for them both...

It will be interesting to see how and when Porsche shifts his thinking of "I only like girls" to only seeing Kinn as the object of his desires... and love. <3 I'm sat and ready for more! (Also the audiobook narrator is fantastic!!)

Also... I have a hunch that Big is working with Vegas...

I thought this was entertaining, but I don't know if I will continue with the series.

While I thought the narrator did a good job, I didn't really enjoy the main characters together and I'm not really interested in seeing them work through things, including what happened/is happening at the end of this volume. I'm glad I was able to listen to this one as part of a subscription I have, but I don't think I will read any more unless the rest of the series is available through a subscription I already have or available from my library.

wow this was so bad lol Porsche is incredibly dumb as bricks in the novel version.

I see now the tv series is light-years way better for story telling, I can only say this book can be for die hard fans of the tv series who want to know what the book version is like so that you can appreciate the tv show more.

unfortunately I have terrible tastes and I will probably keep reading up until at least the pete Vegas arc because curiosity killed the cat or at least my brain cells/tastes

I did not, DID NOT, expect this book to be this annoying – more like the characters to be this annoying! They were fighting to earn the first place in my most annoying MCs ever list.

Honestly, if I had read this first, I would never have started the show – so I guess this is one of those times where the adaptation is 100% better than the source material.

Trigger Warning: rape, sexual violence, toxic relationship, spiking, internalised homophobia, physical violence.

I'm so glad that I read this after watching the drama because if I hadn't, my expectations would have been so high. I did love the drama, don't get me wrong, it was a solid 9/10, but I like the characters & setting a bit more in the novel version.

In the drama, it annoyed me a bit how Porsche was in college at the beginning, but that plot point quickly became irrelevant after he started working for the family. His life outside the family became a passing thought, to be honest. For example, his friends, school, Judo, his brother Chay, etc. In the book, Porsche also makes a better deal for working for them, and even has a time limit on the contract he signed. Porsche is also more of a badass in the book, both in fighting & appearance. I love that Porchay knows about Porsche's job from the beginning & isn't left fumbling in the dark alone.

Love Pete. So far, he's my favorite character in the novel & drama.

Kinn annoys the fuck out of me. He was literally giving me goosebumps with our he was always getting in Porsche's personal space. I have a feeling that Kinn is going to give possessiveness a new definition after how things ended in this volume.

More Thai novels need to be officially translated & published because even the ones that aren't action-packed and intense are so good & it's just sad that they won't be given a shot by most Westerners because of the difficulty in finding them, only to find fan translations. I also personally hate reading on a screen.
