Rate this book
Cupcakes, Paws, and Bad Santa Claus - A Novella includes REAL Recipes! Annie Graceland's a baker with a pinch of psychic ability. She's a midwestern girl who's surviving a divorce while navigating the mean clean streets of L.A. When stressed, Annie's psychic gift/curse kicks into high gear. She's empathic; feels other people's lusts, urges and desires in her own body. Usually it's simple -- someone's craving chocolate, or lusting after the wrong guy. But since Annie discovered she could see and talk with ghosts, her life became a little more complicated. It's Christmas season but Annie's not feeling the holiday spirit. The ghost of Dr. Derrick Fuller, the pompous self-help author, is still nagging her to help him pass to the Afterlife. Annie's soon to be ex-husband is pushing for joint custody of her beloved cat. Her BFF takes her shopping at the mall to cheer her up. Instead they get felt up by Santa Claus and harassed by mall employees. When Annie spots the Sweet Paws table--the animal charity where she met her cat. She flees there for support--only to be guilted into baking hundreds of cupcakes for their holiday fundraiser party--the Furball. The Event Organizer convinces Annie to play sexy Mrs. Claus at the swanky event. When the same Bad Santa from the mall is murdered at the party, Derrick pesters Annie to track down his killer so he and Santa can pass to the Afterlife. Can Annie find Bad Santa's killer before she and others are whacked at the Furball? Can she resolve her latest debacle before her boyfriend, hottie Detective Raphael Campillio, finds it odd she keeps showing up at murder scenes? Can Annie find the light that Bad Santa and Derrick need to go to in order to pass to the Afterlife? And what about that little dog... **Includes a Gingerbread cupcake recipe donated by baker Laura DeVries from the award winning Cupcakes-A-Go-Go Cafe in Madison, Wisconsin!**

Once again Pamela DuMond provides us with a delightful, and at time intentionally silly, snapshot of the life and misadventures of Annie Graceland. I love these fun cozy mysteries that send a ghost into Annie's path. The unique Dr. Fuller is back in all his glory; it appears that he has a ways to go to his wings, so we won't be surprised if we see more of him soon.

After a really icky encounter with a mall Santa, Annie is talked into making cupcakes, for a pet rescue event and into working it. When the original Mr. and Mrs. S. Claus can't make it, a substitute turns up. Need I say more on that? To fill in for the missing Mrs., naturally they turn to Miss "Can't Say No to a Good Cause" herself.

One of Miss DuMond wonderful talents is the ability to give us a offensive character and make us care what happens to him laughing all the way.

I will look for the first Annie's mystery/cookbook. This novella was funny, but obviously done in a hurry -for Christmas? I mean, the crime does not have any reason, you don't understand how it was done, the characters ae very uncomplete and I still don't know who Derrick is.
But it was amusing to read, for the half hour it took.
I don't know if the other stories are longer, or more elaborate. I will try to find the original one and compare.
PS. I checked, the other books are real novels with more than 300 pages.
And the recipes look quite good but you need so much time to make cookies and the ones they sell at the store are not bad!

Another cute and funny installment in the Cupcake series. Annie finds herself once again in the middle of a murder mystery when a Santa for hire is killed at a holiday fundraiser. To top it off Derrick the thong-wearing self-help guru still hasn't managed to get to the after life yet. Can Annie manage a little Christmas miracle and solve the murder of the snarky Santa?

2013-07-03. Pretty good. This time, Annie is dealing with an obnoxious Santa and overly zealous pet rescue. She of course can't say no to helping the rescue group and ends smack dap in another murder. Pretty quirky but not the least bit suspenseful. I enjoyed it but it barely made 3 stars for me just because it was almost boring despite Annie's escapades.

This tasty little morsel is a short, fun novella that will tide you over until the next full length Annie Graceheart book is ready for public consumption. There are even a few recipes included in this short story that sure are mouth watering.

Just finished "Cupcakes, Paws and Bad Santa Claus" that I got in the anthology "Killer Tails". I enjoyed it so much that I have purchased the first book in series "Cupcakes, Lies and Dead Guys" to start on the rest of the set.

Cupcakes, Paws, and Bad Santa Claus Annie Graceland Mystery #4)
by Pamela DuMond

This was an entertaining story about a woman who bakes cupcakes and sees and talks to ghosts. Good editing and proofing (the only error I saw looked to be a mistake of whomever digitized the text), good pacing and flow, plenty of likable characters, lots of humor, and it actually had a Christmas theme (unlike several "Christmas" pieces I've read lately). But it didn't really hold my attention and if it hadn't been so short, I might not have finished it.

Light reading.

I missed Julia. This novella was a short-story disappointment after the last one.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

‘Tis the Holiday Season' but I’m not feeling ‘Fa-la-la.’. My BFF drags me to the mall for some cheer but getting felt up by tipsy Bad Santa while getting our picture taken doesn’t put me in a better mood.

The same boozy Bad Santa is murdered during the Sweet Paws Animal Adoption Gala and it falls on me to track down his killer. Someone’s rescuing the cats and dogs. If I'm lucky -- a Christmas miracle might happen and someone mght rescue me too?

Cupcakes, Paws and Bad Santa Claus by Pamela DuMond is the 4th book in the Annie Graceland Mystery series. Empath and ghost whisperer Annie Graceland is helping at an animal charity fundraiser when Santa is murdered. A cute installment in the series but I wish that Annie had a bit more of a backbone.
