My name is Kane Hunter, and I never asked to become humanity's last line of defense.
It started with a strange feeling along Nevada's Extraterrestrial Highway—someone watching me. Within hours, my Harley was stolen, I was tossed into a ghost town's jail by a sheriff who wasn't quite human, and an old Paiute chief was whispering about ancient visitors from the stars.
Then I found the Theron—a dormant alien scout ship buried in the desert, waiting for someone with the right genetic markers. Someone like me.
Now I know the an artificial intelligence called the Mindship has infiltrated Earth, using Area 51 as its foothold before a full-scale invasion from Tau Ceti. With a crew of unlikely aliens and androids, I’ll take the fight beyond the solar system’s edge—into enemy territory.
I'm no soldier, just a drifter with an unexpected legacy. But when humanity's survival is on the line, running isn't an option.
I was born in Canada and remember as a small boy crawling in my snow-fort. I closed my eyes, and when I tried to open them, they were frozen shut. I didn't panic, but wiped away the ice crystals, unglued my eyes and kept on building my tunnel. Those were great days! I moved to Central California before seventh grade and couldn't believe I lived in a land where oranges grew on trees and you could pick grapes from the vine.
I used to wonder what I wanted to do with my life, what kind of work specifically. I was miserable not knowing and bordering on desperate. Then one day a friend gave me his typewriter. I began working on a novel. A different person told me it was much easier on a computer, so I bought one and began getting up at 4:30 A.M. each morning before work, writing for three hours. My eyes were unglued once again as the pang of misery left my gut. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: write. So now that's what I do, I write, and write, and write, and I love it.
It takes a long time to get going, the first half based on earth, where you trawl through pages of what I can only describe as dullness. It's not bad, it just seems to take a lot of words to say not a lot. Thankfully the 2nd half makes up for this, things move along a lot quicker, storyline develops at a fast clip and the story itself starts to be of more interest. The ending is strange, one minute they don't trust someone, but the next minute they do. The person has been deceptive all along, yet one incident and suddenly trust worthy. It's obviously going to be a series of books and if it continues along the same lines as the 2nd half, it should be a really good ome
I always enjoy ebook written or co written by Vaughn Heppner. Hopefully this will be the start of a short series. If so, its off to a good start with another adventure. I would like to mention one problem that many sci-fi authors fail to recognize, which occurred in this book twice, is that in space, there is no atmosphere, so there can be no pressure waves caused by explosions. I hope you find this helpful.
andyslater55@outlook.com I like the way the characters and storyline are evolving from a single player to the 4 at the end of the book. The actual development of the characters is obviously not anywhere near complete but I am enjoying there development so far. Next book please.
Lots of action with an unlikely hero. Our hero is not perfect which helps the story line a lot. Not much in the way of errors and the author actually did research on other planets and star systems. So if you like a hero with faults that gets the job done without some weird twist in the story line, I think you will like this.
Kane Hunter isn’t the kind of man a nice lady brings home. He’s been in jail, learned from poor experiences, and is cruising to San Diego on a bike he won in a card game. The story of how Kane awakens a starship, finds a crew, and declares war on the Mindships is worth the read!
I enjoyed reading Star Hunter. The characters were interesting and somewhat complex. The hard Sci-fi elements were a bit clunky and could be more refined. I’ll read the next installment.
Not a bad story. Tends to over explain things (mansplain). Several times when main character needs to make a decision supposedly under a time crunch he has to talk it out before he does. Have read better and definitely read worse.
Not a bad read this one Heppner and now White has joined him. Is entertaining, interesting and captivating. I found myself planning to go to bed early just to be able to read more each night.
I just finished reading this book and loved every minute of it.Right from the start it keeps you engrossed with plenty of action and science fiction. The way the author draws you into the story and keeps you there until the end of it is outstanding.
A dam good read that gives enough about characters to start to make you want to find out more about them and then that gets you into the actual story to read and find out even more. Read and enjoy
Finding a Hidden ship still capable o⁹f interstellar travel is a good start. From there the hero finds a quest to save mankind and immediately begins....
