This book was even more action packed than the last one. There were so many times I wondered to myself what was going to happen next and who could truly be trusted.
Let me start out by saying that this book definitely has some topics that require trigger warnings such as rape, forced druggings and violence. The rape was never explicit on the page but it was mentioned and hinted to. That being said, the book was definitely a mind bender. Yes what the men and woman did was wrong but I personally don't believe what they did warranted the punishment they received.
I thought the different perspectives was actually very helpful in this particular story. I'm usually not a fan of multiple pov's but it helped the reader to see multiple people's take on the events of the book not just one or two people. At the beginning, I thought the clinic might be somewhat good/helpful but that thought was squashed relatively quickly.
There were so many times that I felt bad for Fr. Simon because you know in his heart of hearts he wants to help everyone but there were so many times he was prevented from doing so because of his vocation or another reason. I also felt bad for Iris, Lucia, Stella and Albert. I thought they were the characters who most definitely did not deserve what happened to them throughout the book.
I have mixed feelings about Dr. Josefine, Dr. Nora, Sebastian and Gabrielle. I can somewhat understand why Dr's. Josefine and Nora did what they did but it most definitely wasn't right. I feel that Sebastian was just trying to make Dr. Nora happy and Gabrielle was helping so she didn't lose her job. Daniel, however, I abhor. Unfortunately, this story could happen in real life.
I liked this book alot. I liked that they referenced the first book so you know they're related but not so much that you'd be lost if you read this one first. You might be slightly confused but not enough that this book wouldn't make sense. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries, mind bending stories, psychological thrillers, who can be trusted?, strong female characters and a real life feeling story. I'm looking forward to reading the 3rd book!
