Some people get excited when they find out their business is being scouted as a filming location—people other than Mav Grinberry.
I’m a professional location scout. I know the right spot when I find it.
And Grin’s Pub, located in Grinberry Falls, Texas is the perfect small-town bar. It is exactly what I was looking for, but its owner is a stubborn drink-slinger, who is determined to keep film crews out of his establishment.
Hell, truth be told, he wants to keep them out of the entire town. As far as I can tell, Grinberry Falls could use a little economic shot in the arm, but this man is too hard-headed to see reason.
Well, if he wants a fight, he’s got one. Bring it on, bartender! There’s nothing I like more than a challenge.
I will get him to sign the contract, and hopefully soon because I am not a small-town girl. The quicker I’m out of Grinberry Falls, the better. Too much peace and quiet makes my fingernails itch. A slower pace of life makes my heart race, but I’ll get what I came for.
It’ll take more than a man with a steady hand and a southern drawl to change my mind about the perfect shot.
Indie Sparks lives just outside Austin, Texas where she spends her days arguing with her dog about whether or not he really needs to go outside again, and writing strong heroines whose knees go weak for cinnamon roll heroes with dirty mouths and the skills to walk the talk.
She believes steamy rom-coms are the answer. The question is irrelevant.
Indie Sparks is one of my fave author's, I love her writing style and the way she builds her characters, they are always so real and relatable.
Brina blows into the small town like a whirlwind, wild and loud. Mav takes and instant dislike to her.. or does he?! As she's trying to convince him to let them use his bar in a film they are wanting to produce they get to know each other a little better and things develop.
Great short story and introduction into Grinberry Falls, can't wait to read the next one
I love this fun fast read from Indie Sparks! The grumpy sunshine dynamic can’t be over done in my opinion! It was such a fun twist she was finding a location for a movie! It read like a spicy hallmark movie!
Funny rom com about a woman trying to get a bar owner to sign a contract for having a movie be filmed in the bar. We had funny banter, enemies to lovers, small town vibes and an alpaca that can ring a doorbell for some water. Cute and short with an hea.
INDIE DID IT AGAIN!! SMALL TOWN ROM COM FILLED WITH STEAMY GOODNESS & HEA THAT LEAVES YOU SMILING!!
I love this author's ability to give you these amazing novellas that are filled with highly relatable characters, emotional journeys, spicy moments, laughs, and epic endings that provide the perfect amount of escapism from life.
If you love a good grumpy cinnamon roll hero then Maverick Grinberry will be your next new book boyfriend. He has some tragic issues he's faced throughout his life and isn't much for change until a loud sassy woman comes barreling into his bar. He tries hard to dislike this interloper and her wild demands to use his bar in a movie. Unfortunately for Mav he's finding it hard not to have feelings for this intriguing woman.
Are you ready for a sassy big city woman who is persistent to no end? Well, meet Sabrina "MF-ING" Stone. She is hilarious and brings some fun energy to brighten up Maverick's world. She also tries to pretend that she's not feeling a connection to this grumpy bar owner. She's on a mission and wants a yes but maybe she wants more than a signed contract but will she be able to admit it to herself?
If you love quaint small quirky towns with lovable/relatable characters with some good fun banter and steamy goodness then make sure you ONE CLICK this one NOW!! I can't wait for more of this series now!!
Sabrina had one job to do: Get the owner of this bar to agree to letting it be used in a up and coming movie. But she never anticipated coming into a problem that proved to be just as hardheaded and stubborn as her: the owner.
Trying to get him to agree proved to be difficult- more difficult than getting the small town that she’s in to be on board and in her favor. Getting them and the towns beloved Alpaca, Oliver, to like her may help.
But Sabrina is on a mission, and nothing was going to stop her. Let alone Maverick, the hot bar owner.
Maverick was getting tired of doing the same thing, day after day in the bar he took over from his dad after his passing.
But that didn’t mean he was ready for a spit fire who waltzed in his bar as if she owned the place. Hardheaded and stubborn, she didn’t seem to understand the word no when he turned down her offer. Multiple times.
But she was a woman on a mission. And as the days passed by, he couldn’t deny the attraction that he had to her. One night with wine and steaks leads to questions of how or if this could work.
Just like the other three novellas in this series, this is a quick read with some spice added in that keeps you wanting to come back for more and wondering what book will be next.
Chased Shot by Indie Sparks is a captivating and intense story that expertly weaves together elements of romance, suspense, and personal growth. The pacing of the narrative keeps readers engaged, with twists and turns that maintain tension while allowing for moments of tenderness. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, making their relationship both frustrating and exhilarating. Sparks does an excellent job of exploring deeper themes such as trust, vulnerability, and the complexities of modern relationships. One of the strengths of the book is its well-developed character. Each character faces their own challenges, evolving throughout the story in meaningful ways. The dialogue flows naturally, adding to the authenticity of the characters' interactions. Overall, this is an enthralling read that combines emotional depth with a gripping storyline. Indie Sparks has crafted a novel that resonates with anyone who has ever chased their dreams while navigating the tumultuous waters of love. It’s a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and those who appreciate a story with heart and edge.
Thanks to booksiren for the ARC in exchange of an honest opinion review.
I wanted to like this book I did. I went into it like this is going to be a cool book, small town mam meets big city girl looking to use his bar for a bar in a movie.
But in my opinion it was not executed the best. They both gave off vibes of not liking each other then were both thinking dirty thoughts of the other. Mav's character was jaded but almost to much in a way that made me almost not like him.
Brina's character was not well rounded she was thinking about the movie too much and then almost switched gears after the frist smutt scene.
That brings me to the smutt, there was so much potential and I was sadly let down. It was lack luster and didn't really give much to the story. It almost felt like an after thought.
I feel like it could have been more well rounded as a while if it was a full novel not just a novella. It says right on the cover "a poorly balanced romantic comedy" and that it was.
This was a really fun book and a great end to the Rocky Start series (and quasi-beginning of the Grinberry Falls series). Sabrina and Mav had a, shall we say, antagonistic start to their relationship and it was a lot of fun to watch them fall in love. Sabrina is a tough, savvy woman who has managed to be successful in the entertainment industry, and Mav has just recently returned to town after his father’s passing. He’s trying to decide his next step while Sabrina wants him to give permission to film a movie at his bar. Mav isn’t interested. Sabrina isn’t backing down. And neither is willing to give up. Their battle of wills was hilarious. My favorite moments, however, were whenever Oliver would appear. Now there’s a fella I’d like to cozy up to. I’m already looking forward to more romantic adventures in charming Grinberry Falls.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Chased Shot by Indie Sparks is part of the Rocky Start series. Don’t let the length fool you in this novella; it’s a fully flushed out story. I absolutely adored this tale and easily fell in love with the characters. There’s so much life and personality packed in the pages, I didn’t want to stop reading. My favorite and highlight of this novella was the banter between Brina and Mav, it really made me smile at times. Plus I really enjoyed the chemistry between the two. Not to mention Oliver!!!! I thought it was well written and interesting not once did my attention wander. I overall had a wonderful reading experience and plus it was just super cute. If you enjoy a quick read that has a small town romance that can be read in one sitting this is perfect for you. Definitely not only recommend this book but also all the previous ones as well. It can be read as a standalone.
What a fantastic end to the Rocky Start Romance series and introduction into the new Grinberry Falls series! This has been such a fun series and I’m excited to see the stories staying in Grinberry Falls for now.
Sabrina arrives in town on a mission to convince the bar owner to let a production crew use the bar as a location in an upcoming movie. Mav, said owner, is adamant that will never happen. From the moment she first walks into the bar, they have amazing chemistry and I love the witty banter between them! As luck would have it, it turns out that she is also staying in a cottage on his property that he rents out so they have plenty of time to get to know each other better.
There are several sweet as well as spicy scenes throughout the book and the sparks are flying! I’m so glad they were able to work out a compromise and get their happy ending too! I loved getting to know the other town residents as well and I’m looking forward to reading their stories next!
Sabrina is a Location scout who thinks that Grins Bar would be the perfect location to be in a movie. Although the locals seem quite excited about this, the bar owner/bartender is less than thrilled at the idea. Sabrina has just 3 days to get him to change his mind. With his stubbornness and her persistence will they manage to strike a deal? I have really enjoyed this series of Novellas and this was no exception. Fast burn, flirty and fun! I liked the battle of wills between the two main characters and also that Mav wasn't just being awkward for the sake of it. There was actually a very good reason for his immediate shut down of the idea of using his bar for a movie location. This book was extra special because there is an appearance from a character from Missed Exit, the first book in this series but the stage has been set for another spin off series. I am so looking forward to this!
Sabrina’s plan is simple. Find the perfect small town country bar and charm the owner into letting a film production company use it as a movie set for a couple of months. What Sabrina hasn’t planned for is grumpy bar owner Maverick who has absolutely no intention of leasing out his bar. Undeterred Sabrina sets out to convince him but all that happens is the attraction between them that neither of them expected or wanted builds. Add in surprisingly good main character work for such a short novella, an array of small town characters with their own quirks including the town’s resident alpaca and you’ve got a nice small town love story with some great rom-com features. Really pleased to find out that the author will be doing a whole new series based in this town and with these characters.
🎞 Small Town Romance 🎞 Grumpy Bartender 🎞 Battle of Wills 🎞 Steamy Rom-Com
This is the latest in a great series of fast-burn short. In fact, most of the action takes place over just a couple of days.
Sabrina is location hunting; Mav doesn't want his bar to be used, Sabrina thinks it's perfect and sets out to change his mind. Add in a big city girl trying to get her head round a small town, and you have a perfect mix.
Sabrina and Mav make a fun couple, both trying to convince themselves that they're not interested. The banter is fun and the chemistry is off the charts. Add in a wonderful mix of supporting characters, a reappearance of a side character from the first Rocky Start Romance book, and a pet alpaca, and it's a great mix.
This is also the start of a new series, set in and around the small town of Grinberry. I loved this one and I can't wait for more.
Chased Shot by Indie Sparks is part of the Rocky Start series. Don’t let the length fool you; this is a fully flushed-out story. Short and sweet but packs everything. I adored this tale and fell in love with the characters. There’s so much personality packed in the pages. I can say that the highlight of this novella was the banter between Brina and Mav; it really makes you smile at times. I also really enjoyed the chemistry between the two. Not to mention Oliver!!!! The story is well written and interesting. Overall, I had a wonderful reading experience, and the added bonus was it is super cute. If you enjoy a quick read that has a small-town romance that can be read in one sitting, this is perfect for you. Whilst I know this is part of a series, this is the only book I have read from it because it can be read as a standalone.

I wish I had an ounce of @indiesparksauthor writing creativity! Every story I have read by her is funny, incredibly unique, and has a great spicy love story. I also enjoy how they are short n’ sweet!
I can never pass up a Grumpy x Sunshine trope in my rom coms and this quick novella did a great job at showcasing it. For it being so short, it didn’t feel rushed and I loved the banter between Mav & Brina. My favorite parts of the book were when Oliver (the neighborhood alpaca) appears at the bar or on the streets of this small town.
Thank you for this ARC Indie Sparks! I absolutely adore your humor & your spicy / unique takes on rom com stories. 💜
Sabrina walked into Grin's, a small bar in a small town, full of false bravado, confidence, and air of lady from big city. Talking on the phone, occupying two barstools, and annoying the bartender to no end. Only to find out he is the owner, and she actually needs to present her offer to him. Oopsie. Rocky start indeed. Maverick is stubbornly against any change in the town and refuses her offer repeatedly - which does not stop their mutual attraction from growing. Nice, fast, cozy, happy small town romance. I enjoyed the moments with both characters and the town citizens - Oliver being my favorite, heh. One smart being, that one. I also relished in the happy ending and the compromise Sabrina and Mav managed to find.
Oliver the Alpaca. Who rings a doorbell😂 That right there should be enough to get you to read the story. At first I thought I was delirious from lack of sleep, but no, Sabrina is arguing with the bartender. The bartender who just so happens to also be the owner of the bar that she needs to have a business meeting with… What’s this argument over? The town’s mascot who is Joni’s pet that she brings into town🦙 Oh and did I mention that there’s cameo appearances from Indie’s other Rocky Start Romance books?! How awesome 🤩 As always, Indie more than delivers the sass and witty banter that each of the previous books are so well known for and make them such an enjoyable read. When the sparks fly and the main characters finally admit their feelings for each other it is sooo worth it😍
This is adorable - even Oliver the Alpaca wins my vote!
I don't know what it is about cute, quirky animals in books, but I absolutely love it. Oliver the Alpaca is a show stealer in this one. Okay the rest of the book, Sabrina is a stubborn fly by night location scout for a movie. She's on the lookout for the perfect small town bar, and she's found it. But the grumpy stubborn bartender/owner is not having it. Not to mention their first encounter did not go a long way toward ingratiating themselves to each other. But as they get to know each other they see what lies under their rock solid walls and start to fall. A great little novella!
Chased Shot is the fourth book in the Rocky Start series. This is a F/M romance, where you have a determined FMC and a MMC that just wants to be left alone.
I love a good small town romance, especially when there is that friction between the main characters. Sabrina is a loud and stubborn woman... that can't understand why Mav won't just let her use his bar for her project. Of course, he doesn't agree.
The banter back and forth was so entertaining, but not as entertaining as Oliver. I kept waiting for the next alpaca sighting that would come. So funny. I liked that this was a quick read that could read in one sitting.
I loved this addition to Sparks' Rocky Start romance. Main characters are Sabrina and Maverick who delight in this sunny / grumpy romance read. I adore the wit and banter and the quirky animals that tend to steal the show. Well written with smooth flowing storyline. A bit of a shorter read but full of everything you would want in a steamy and sweet romance and oh, did I mention it takes place in a small southern town called Grinberry Falls?!? I'm so excited to see what's to come from a new series to take place there!!!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.
Chased Shot by Indie Sparks is a grumpy sunshine troupe book, which is one of my fav's to read. This is a Rocky Start Romance novella, which makes it a very short read. Sabrina and Mav are full of chemistry and so much adorable interactions. Mav is the one returning to a small town after a family death and Sabrina is a city gal. Sabrina wants to film a movie in Mav's bar and he just wants to find himself and not have a movie in his bar. Neither of these characters are weak characters, they are both arguing and fighting a lot and that part is very true in relationships. I hope to see more stories in Grinberry Falls(love that name;)
Indie gives us the absolutely fantastic finale to the Rocky Starts series! Sabrina and Mav's story begins with her swanning into his bar talking to her bestie on her phone before trying to get him to agree to using the bar in filming a movie. He vehemently refuses. This begins thier smexy romance. To find out where they go to get to their HEA, dive into this beautifully written book with complex characters and plot twists that keep you turning pages throughout. I loved reading this standalone book and highly recommend the series! I can't wait for the next series in this charming place! Don't miss out on this book!!
Chased Shot has all my favourite inclusions with witty banter, lots of push and pull between the main characters, small town with quirky residents and a storyline that holds its own in what is a great shortish read.
Indie Sparks is the mistress of capturing depth to building relationships in a short time frame, you will not feel short changed.
Sabrina is sassy, fiesty, knows what she wants and is determined to not give up.
Mav is charming, sarky and determined not to give in.
In-between their banter, something opens up between them, an honesty, followed by an attraction that neither of them expected and neither of them can deny.
Another hilarious comedy as Sabrina meets Maverick, the owner of a bar that she wants to use in a movie. Maverick is dead set against the idea and against hot shot city girls, but it doesn't take long before she melts his heart. Sabrina never thought that she'd enjoy the small town country life, but after finding Maverick she quickly changed her tune. The story is full of sarcasm, wit and banter and I love the way they keep on each other's toes, never making it easy for the other. I love how Mav gives in to her and does the movie and how she comes around to the changes he wants. Another fun, witty read!
This was a cute novella-length romance. Sabrina walks into Mav's small town bar hoping to use it in a film, but grumpy Mav is just not interested.
I did find Sabrina a little annoying at first, but she soon warmed up to me. Mav was all grunts and grumpy, but Sabrina challenged him and brought a spark back into his life.
My favourite thing about Indies's books are all the conversations and banter between the characters, I always feel like I've gotten to know them so well, even in shorter books.
Sabrina walks into a bar and runs into Maverick, and of course there is an alpaca named Oliver. This wonderful cute short romance story keeps you entrained as you read Sabrina’s wit and come backs to Maverick remarks, as he gives as good as he gets to Sabrina. Will Sabrina convince Maverick to let the movie company lease his bar for a movie? Or will Sabrina not worry about it as things heat up between her and Maverick. I can’t wait to read the authors next book as she will highlight another person in this lovely town of Grinberry, which just happens to be Maverick’s last name!
Cute short book about a girl from the city Sabrina(Brina) and a grumpy bartender Maverick (Mav). Sabrina comes to the little town of Grinberry looking to use Mav’s family bar Grin’s to shoot a movie. Mav is hard set against it. Mav has had a few tragedies happen with his mom and his sister who was an aspiring actress and it made him not want to use his bar. Sabrina and him grow closer and learn about each other and Mav works through some of his struggles. They make compromises and everyone is happy. This book ends with a HEA. Oh and Oliver is a hoot.
Brina and Mav were the perfect duo for Chased Shot in the Rocky Start series! Grin’s Pub, which is owned by Mav, is the perfect spot for Brina's shoot and she is willing to work through the hard exterior of the bar owner to get permission to shoot there. Unfortunately for her, Mav is as stubborn as they come, and no matter what sweet coated words Brina uses, he is not ready to budge. The tension between the two leads to so much more between them. This may have been a short read, but it was the perfect mix of tension and romance! I look forward to reading more in this series!
