Awaken Archangel

Rate this book
Before humanity. Before the fall. There was Michael.

In a world stitched from code and myth, where angels are dreamers, artists, warriors, and rebels… the last hope for a broken Heaven is a painter with a sword—and a secret even he doesn't know.

Abandoned with no past, no name, and no purpose, Michael survives the only way he knows how— fighting. But when the god Lucifer recruits him as a gladiator for Universal Technologies—the mysterious project on Eastern Island—Michael’s forgotten past begins to resurface.

There, he meets Trudy— a defiant computer scientist and the only atheist in a paradise that runs on belief. She’s discovered a threat buried in the source code of Heaven itself… and all signs point to Michael being the key to stopping it—or destroying everything.

This isn’t the Fall you’ve heard about. It’s the one that rewrites everything. Heaven is about to get a reboot.

Awaken Archangel isn't your typical fantasy. Just picture me sitting in stunned, slightly dazed silence every time I think about this book. Awaken Archangel is one of the most unique, genre-defying stories I’ve read in ages. It’s weird in the absolute best way. Think The Locked Tomb levels of delightful, clever, quirky weirdness. This is Good Omens without the baggage (looking at YOU co-author), with angel bureaucracy, philosophical mythpunk, steampunk science experiments, and existential questions about faith, creation, and identity.

The world-building is absolutely wild. Incredible and intricate without ever feeling inaccessible. Piperata blends theology, coding, and gritty near-future dystopia with effortless style. And the characters… I’m obsessed. They’re messy and complicated and so far from the pristine, self-righteous angels you might expect. They doubt. They question. They fight (literally and figuratively) for what they believe, even when they don’t really know what that is. These are some truly phenomenal characters you’ll want to follow into the void.

The mystery of Michael’s past, the crew seeking answers as their world starts to fall apart, the looming quiet danger of Lucifer, and the way belief itself becomes both a weapon and a curse. It’s just so good. The steampunk aesthetic with magic and tech-driven Heaven was so cool. As someone who’s agnostic, I also really appreciated the subtle but sharp religious commentary threaded throughout. And can we talk about the fact that the author also did the ART for this book? Unreal talent.

This isn’t going to be for everyone (its tone and style are very offbeat), but for the readers it is for, it’s going to hit HARD. Easily one of my favorite reads of the year (and I’ve read around 250 books so far). I’m already yearning for book two. If you like books that break convention, blend genres, and aren’t afraid to get a little (or a lot) strange, this is 100% worth checking out.

Rating: 10/5 stars.
Mood: Brain melted, existentially delighted.

Thanks so much to the author and R&R Booktours for the complimentary copy! This is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

[ARC REVIEW]

*clears throat and taps mic*

🗣️Read this. That’s all.

No but forreal, we all know by now that I love a retelling. Biblical story retellings have got to be one of my top faves. Boy howdy does this deliver.

Awaken Archangel is a retelling of The Fall. Which, tl;dr, is when Mr. Morningstar decides he wants to be the head honcho because he feels like The Big Man isn’t doing a good job. Mostly because TBM is absent and that the angels aren’t really living because they don’t really have free will. And well, war happens and Lucy + friends are thrown from Heaven.

But we’re at the beginning of that when Awaken Archangel begins. We have a story with a bit of a dual POV with Michael, as he tries to figure out his Calling (certainly not as an artist) and who he is, and an angel named Trudy who is kind of a scientist/technologist within this world. Eventually their stories connect as they both try to find their places and fight against whatever is happening to their home.

The world CJ has built in this book is incredible. On one hand you kind of have this rural, bartering-centered life, and the other is full of technology powered by Light. It gives a bit of steam and solar punk, and I’m here for it. We also have a whole host of side characters, including some of our faves out of the Heavenly hosts, and CJ’s take on each of them was something that I’m going to think about for a while.

There’s some great humor, puns, and references that had me giggling. If you’re familiar with Christopher Moore’s Lamb, but a bit less goofy.

I’m going to be thinking about this book for a while and I know when book 2 is ready, I will also be ready. Thank you to CJ Piperata for this ARC, I’m so glad it came across my FYP. 💜

This book was an absolute MASTERPIECE! It was so much more than I could have hoped for. This is the story of Michael the Angel and he’s trying to find his Calling in Heaven. We also have the POV of an Angel named Trudy, and she is working with a team of angels who are trying to find the cause of the darkness in Heaven. Michael is called to join the gladiator championship and Trudy takes her team into the heart of the darkness. Does Michael have the power to fight the darkness and save his family and will Trudy be able to stop the darkness before it takes over all of Heaven?

If you love terry Pratchet and Christopher Moore you will very likely love this book.

I didn’t expect this book to be funny. I fully expected it to be very serious even though there are clues in the description. It is a delightfully unserious take on events leading up to the rebellion in heaven. It’s utterly ridiculous in the best way. Not that it didn’t have some serious themes. There are some really dark moments, along with instances of abuse.

Overall I really loved this book. It was fast paced, clever and easy to read. A highly entertaining and humorous apocalyptic fantasy loosely based on Abrahamic Mythology.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Do you yearn for a book that will, simply put, blow your mind with its genius and make you laugh so hard so many times you'll stop counting? A book with so many layers, so many hidden truths, so many gems, so many puns, you won't know where to look first? A book that will make you question everything you know and offer so many new perspectives? A book about Heaven and angels, where neither Heaven nor angels are what you may have been expecting?

If this and more is your heart's true desire, look no further than C.J. Piperata's Awaken Archangel, Book 1 in her Universal Technologies series.

There is something so special and so unique about this book, its world and characters, something almost intangible yet so imaginative and different. C.J. has done such a masterful job writing and imagining this story that I feel any review might not be able to convey just how utterly fantastic this book is.

Each and every character is so complex and so expressive. The world-building is vast and immersive, but fear not, you will thread it and you will feel like a part of the story.

Nobody knows who Michael is. Not even Michael. How could that be possible in a world deemed so pure and perfect? In a world where there should be no pain or sorrow? Hm... Maybe not everything is as perfect as it seems. Maybe it will take an unlikely band of characters to form the most perfectly imperfect found family to uncover the secrets buried deep. Maybe the battle of light vs. dark is more complex than it seems. Maybe, maybe, maybe... All it takes for you is to grab a copy of Awaken Archangel and join the merry band of sort-of-misfits. We will be waiting.

The ARC of Awaken Archangel was the best gift for my mind and soul, and I am honoured to join C.J. Piperata on her author's journey.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to be an ARC reader for Awaken Archangel in exchange for an honest review.

“Tech is meant to enhance life, not replace it.”

As an ex-Catholic who loves fantasy this was the read for me!! Awaken Archangel is a creative retelling of the Archangel Micheal and the War in Heaven.

The world building is insanely good. You find out how many names in the Bible come to be (Eden, Hell, etc.)
The intersection of technology with an almost old world feel of heaven makes not only the plot, but the setting even more unique. Finding out bits and pieces of how the universe is being created gives the story a bit of a whimsical quality.

I enjoyed following the characters journey from being naive angels, to hardened soldiers who are questioning all they have ever known. Micheal is a great MC, you want to root for him even when he’s working against himself. You can really see the pull within him deciding what is “right” and “wrong”. Even if his thinking is flawed, you kind of understand where he’s coming front. I do hope to see more Trudy (and Hoot!) in the next book, I’m especially interested to learn more about her connection to Lucifer.

There are really funny bits, and really serious bits within the story, giving it the whimsical feel with a high fantasy-like plot. This is full of really great quotes, that I will be going through and highlighting to share whenever I do a reread.

I am very excited for the rest of this series and to return to the world of Heaven.

In Awaken Archangel, every angel has been taught to believe in the Almighty however there are those who doubt. Among these we have Michael and Trudy who take very different paths after seeing how the world around them seems to slowly come apart. Michael is tempted by revenge and joins Lucifer's order that strives to create new rules for a new world. Trudy however, is doubtful of Lucifers intentions and tries to investigate this degradation of Heaven.

There's a whole lot going on in the world building here with elements of both sci-fi and fantasy. I thought it was all well done and fun to explore. I haven't heard of retellings based on Abrahamic mythology before but it's great to see.

I found myself heavily invested with the plot and characters. The focus was more on Michael than Trudy, we get flashback chapters that slowly unveil his mysterious past since it is unknown where he came from or what he is. It was also interesting to follow him as he slowly loses himself as he rises through the ranks of Lucifer's order. Trudy's chapters were great as well and follows her quest to uncover the truth with her team of angels. I really look forward to the sequel, this truly was a unique and fun read.

I got to read the ARC on NetGalley

holy moly what a COOL READ 😱 i was NOT expecting to love this book so much or LAUGH as much as i did! ੈ✩‧₊˚ I loved the multiple POV between Michael’s revenge arc blending with Trudy’s search for the truth behind the darkness in Heaven.

HONESTY MOMENT >>>>> It took a bit to get into for me ((( necessary world building as great fantasy books often have))) but once i locked in i was BLOWN AWAY 🤯 i kept underlining parts going OH THAT’S SO COOL! 🪽⚙️🤍🩶🖤 Who knew Celestial-Steampunk was a thing?! I’m very excited to continue with this series and find out what happens next 👀

It’s giving His Dark Materials and Mortal Engines vibes mixed with a splash of Good Omens humor. The story blends gaslamp fantasy with angelic warfare & philosophical mythpunk intrigue ✌🏼

I received a free ARC copy for my honest opinion

I really enjoyed this book! It’s world building was unique, though based on The War In Heaven and Lucifer’s Fall. This is definitely a fantasy book, and should not be assumed to be romantacy, there is no spice, not even closed door. The focus is fully on the world and story, and those things are both great, fast paced and intriguing.

The main characters felt believable, even when they weren’t necessarily likable. It’s a dual POV but for once it wasn’t the love interests, two separate main characters to bring multiple sides of the story together and that was a refreshing take. I enjoyed Michael’s arc throughout the story and I’m really looking forward to how he changes in the next book! Trudy was also a great main character, though I didn’t see much of any growth and change in her story and I felt like I knew her less than Michael. I hope to get more from her in the next book! Hoot was definitely my favorite character, even more so when he reveals more about himself later in the book.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the fantasy genre, mythology, world-building series, and books with celestial beings/angels like Fallen.

This is book is for every reader that is fascinated by heaven, angels, and archangels! Buckle up because this Celestial Steampunk is going to be your next adventure!

Awaken Archangel is an immersive and intriguing story with rich and beautifully written world building.

Everyone loves a good mystery and Michael seems to be the biggest one of all. No one knows who he is and without a calling he’s determined to make one for himself. Split between Michael and Trudy on this fantastical tale we start to unravel secrets about heaven and Michael’s past.

Having read so many fantasy stories before I was delighted to read a unique tale unlike any other. C.J. Piperata does a remarkable job of keeping you interested and entertained throughout the whole book.

When I read the description of this book, I knew this needed to be on my TBR instantly. It was such a unique read, and I devoured it in two sittings (unfortunately, I had to work lol). I wasn't sure what to expect, I had never read this author before and it seemed like it was going to be serious and action packed. It was amazing, and there was a lot of laughter to break up the more serious bits - which definitely added to what I loved about this book. The character development that happened was also well done and made it even more enjoyable to read. Overall, this was a great book and I can not recommend it enough!

[DNF]

I was initially really intrigued by the premise of Awaken Archangel. It sounded original and full of potential. Unfortunately, I DNF’ed it. Despite the promising setup, I just couldn’t get into the story.

The characters are well-crafted, and the writing style is genuinely beautiful, but I didn’t feel drawn into the plot. I wasn’t captivated or moved, and I found it hard to keep going.

It’s not a bad book by any means — it’s just not for me. Maybe it’ll resonate more with other readers.

I was blessed with the opportunity to be an ARC reader -- and let me tell you -- this book completely pulled me out of a reading slump!!! I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up. For a while, I’d been struggling to concentrate or stay focused on any book, but this one reignited my obsession with reading. The world-building is rich and immersive, blending the spiritual and physical realms in a way that feels both epic and deeply personal. I was so hooked that I finished it in just two days. The angel Trudy—sharp, loyal, and full of heart— quickly became my favorite and added so much depth to the story (though I may be biased since I relate to her so much). It’s one of those books that reminds you why you fell in love with reading in the first place.

TL;DR - I finished this book and immediately wanted to write a strongly worded letter to C.J. demanding she tell us what happens next!

Unfortunately this one is just not for me and I’m DNF’ing at 11%. The writing style is beautiful, descriptive and so immersive and the characters and premise are so intriguing, but I just haven’t been captured or drawn in to the story as a whole entity. I just feel like I’m missing something vital which would make it all click into place.

I have no words. I received this book as an ARC but this is 100% my take on this book.

First, this book was not what I expected at all. To be honest, I dont know what I expected but it wasnt what I got. What I got .... I was eating up like cake and icecream with a large spoon. How do you craft characters like Michael, Trudy, Hoot, and all the rest? I laughed, I scratched my head, and I even yelled at the book.

This book had a unique twist and perspective on the battle in Heaven. Personally, I loved how Hoot challenged Michael in so many ways. Hoot made me laugh but I give Hoot props for standing his ground when he believes in something

Piperata created such a unique world and characters that you loved in so many different ways. This book left me with questions but in all the best ways. Now I need the next book because I know there is so much more to come.

Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the ARC!

This book was so delightful to read! At first it's a bit confusing, and I will admit, I had to go back and forth the index at the beginning. The first few chapters were a bit difficult to get into as a result, but afterwards, it was very fun! The world building is well planned out, the pacing for the most part is just right, and I love that the book could be so silly at time, and yet also be serious when it needed to be, and critique its own world, and ours. The twists are so delightful and left me wanting more!

This book is Amazing! Has great character and world descriptions. The main MMC Michael/X is very confident and a born leader. The side characters are just as charming. I love the twist of friendships. The world has both an old charm and new age technology. This is a telling of how the world is being created from a different point of view with battles and villainous gods/lords. The tale between light and dark is beginning!

First and foremost, this book defies genre definitions; it is fun, fantasy, metaphysical, epistemological, dystopian, and more. There are so many things Piperata put her own spin on (my favorite being measuring time in music), which sometimes made for some interesting head-scratching. I referenced the index at the beginning a few times to figure out how long something was. This book had a unique twist and perspective on the battle in Heaven. I loved how Hoot challenged Michael in so many ways. Hoot made me laugh, but I give Hoot props for standing his ground when he believes in something. Piperata created a unique world and characters you loved in many different ways. This book left me with questions, but in all the best ways. I need the next book because I know much more is to come. I also appreciated how we have two main characters aimed at two very different things. We have Micahel, who basically has no idea what his backstory is and only wants to find out what his calling is, and certainly not in any way to do with painting (though it seems he is very good at it). Then, Trudy works with a team to discover what is poisoning heaven and turning it all dark. This story has many layers and interconnections, and I am sure a few read-throughs will be necessary before I catch all the tidbits. It's a great story, and I'm eager for more stories.

Thanks NetGalley for the arc of this one!

If you are tired of the same story being told over and over in the fantasy genre, this one is for you - I know, I know, the tale of Lucifer, Michael, heaven and Eden is pretty much ancient history, but this phenomenal approach to the source material blends the story of Lucifer's fall with an utopia-turns-dystopian setting, technology and programming as well as philosophy and ideology.

Plot
Michael, a young angel without a clear past, wants nothing more than to get a calling to be a gladiator, participating in the sports games entertaining angels since forever. Instead, he gets sent to the new technological university to work as an artist, a talent he has but despises, not wanting anyone to see his work. Fortunately for him, the university is trying to build a gladiator team to send to the games, with its trainer being Joseph, legendary fighter and thinker, Michael's idol and the only one ever who dared to challenge the master of games to a fight for his title. Michael manages to join the team, but little does he know that it is no simple sport he participates in, but a greater plan to change heaven once and for all.
Trudy is a scientist formerly working for lord Lucifer. In the beginning of the book, she is tasked with leading her own team of scientists to work on the code for a new project called Eden. However, she soon finds evidence of the lords sabotaging the coding for this new world and is afraid of this being part of a bigger plan to endanger heaven and all its angels. Proof of a danger for the current way of life can be seen in the darkness overcoming heaven, impairing the healing abilities of angels and endangering the trees growing the vital mana, threatening the angels with famine and starvation. Trudy and her team observe angels turning on their pure nature, killing animals for food, stealing resources and killing for their own gain. Trudy is convinced this has something to do with the lords, their uprising black manifesto promoting selfishness and concepts like pride and even her theory of the Almighty not being what everyone thinks they are.

Thoughts
This book is an excellent study of an utopia turning dystopian. The angels, pure of heart, willing to share everything and trusting in their fate, become creatures fighting for their existence, becoming selfish, implementing a currency based trading system and not caring for the well being of others anymore. It is an incredibly smart look on people turning on their morals in time of need, personal development being impacted by indoctrination, good and bad, free will, a perfect system facing impossible challenges and the people who will rise up in these times of chaos.
I was not the biggest fan of the execution, though. Trudy and Michael barely meet for 5 seconds, which makes them an odd choice for dual perspectives. The world building is incredibly complex and could have used a lot of editing to streamline everything. Overall, the ideas of this book are excellent but the execution lacked editing. Sometimes, you need to let go of topics dear to you to really bring the message across - e.g. I see where the time concept of music related descriptions becomes important later on, but whilst reading it just took me out of the story, being completely foreign and feeling like something hindering the flow of the story. Furthermore, whilst I see why Michael is the main character, he embodies a lot of the flaws of the "new system" (which I do not doubt is the whole point), which makes his character a hard read. He is really unlikable, selfish and, the worst crime of all, a terrible, ruthless friend. Due to the complexity of the story and my problems with its execution, I will probably not continue with this series. Still, I think CJ Piperatas ideas are absolutely unique and I will definitely keep my eyes open for new releases by her, I really think this could be the debut of one of the future big authors of the high fantasy genre!

ARC received in exchange for honest review.

Let’s start off with my favorite part of this book: the worldbuilding. As someone who was raised Catholic, I recognized plenty of names and the basis for this new interpretation of Heaven, but there were so many things Piperata put her own spin on (my favorite being measuring time in music). I love that angels can eat the same things humans do, but have to have a certain ingredient to truly flourish (a main point of contention later in the book). There’s a bit of a learning curve during the first few chapters while readers adjust to the world, but that’s true of any sci-fi/fantasy story, and Piperata is careful not to let her readers get lost in the reeds.

Having multiple POVs is helpful in this book, both for getting different references for what living in Heaven is like, and so readers get multiple views of characters like Michael and Trudy, who may be unreliable narrators regarding themselves for one reason or another. I hope we see more POVs as this story continues - I’d love to get into Hoot’s head, or maybe Philistina’s.

While Hoot was my favorite character, I’m very interested in Michael. He angered me at times, being so bull-headed, but it’s a necessary part of his character arc. He constantly speaks of how he avoided indoctrination and is often frustrated with those who refuse to see his point of view because of their indoctrinated upbringing, but he fails to see how easily he himself fell to indoctrination without even reading the text he follows. Michael just needed the right propaganda, things that align with his beliefs, and he ended up in exactly the same position without realizing. (A very pertinent message for these times.)

What an inspired take on the War in Heaven and Lucifer’s Fall. I can’t wait for book two!

I want to scream about this book from every rooftop! Awaken Archangel is one of those rare reads that fills you with hope, happiness, and pure joy every time you pick it up. It should be savored, not consumed, yet I found myself devouring it, desperate to understand what exactly was happening, and why I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

From the very first chapters, I was hooked. I talked about it with anyone who would listen, often starting with, “You’ll never believe what I’m reading…” And I truly couldn’t believe it. This story is that original. Inspiration was clearly blessed on C.J. Piperata.

The world-building is nothing short of astounding: heaven, "hell", and the corporate complexities of Universal Technologies come together in a tapestry that’s compelling, immersive, and so sharp it cuts through genre boundaries. The conversations, especially between the angels, are clever, thought-provoking, and at times downright hilarious. The inner monologues? Even better. I found myself chuckling out loud more than once.

What truly elevates this book is the intertwining of religion, belief systems, technology, character growth, and philosophical conflict. The small drops of information scattered throughout kept me turning pages, hungry for more. The wit deserves a standing ovation. The characters are the kind that stay with you - flawed, evolving, and deeply human, even when they’re celestial.

And those final pages? Impeccable. A revelation that lands with the force of thunder, yet somehow feels as quiet and sacred as a prayer.

I have so many words for this book, and yet I’m at a loss. All I can say is - I’m extremely thankful this will be a series. Bring on the next installment!

Thank you, NetGalley, for this EPIC advanced reader copy! And C.J. Piperata, I can't express my gratitude for the journey of reading this book!

“He’s got some set of wings, your Champion here.”

Fairytale retelling? No, how about biblical celestial retellings of the fall (without the overly religious overtones)?? This fast-paced fantasy with Abrahamic mythology was so fun to read. Think steam punk but with light technology, an Archangel who is trying to find his purpose, with actual laugh out loud moments that help break up some of the heavy portions of the story and of course demons and gladiators. CJ Piperita will have you viewing heaven and its angels in a whole new light (see what I did there).

This story primarily follows Michael as he searches for his purpose in heaven, and another angel named Trudy who is a specializes in tinkering and technology. While Trudy and some other angels try to discover the source of a darkness that is spreading in Heaven, Michael is called to serve in the gladiator championship. This fall retelling wouldn’t be complete without Lucifer Morningstar thinking he knows best and causing a drastic shift resulting in being cast out. Will Michael and Trudy be able to fight off the darkness and save their family?

I have read a lot of Greek, Norse and Egyptian mythology-based stories but Angel based lore and mythology is becoming my new fav. The writing is beautiful and is well-paced that you forget you are reading, the pages practically turn themselves. I would love to see this book made into a movie! The author did a great job ensuring these characters are ethereal yet relatable and have well developed arcs. The story has great flow and the descriptors are perfect, even for the things that you would think to be difficult to envision. I am definitely looking forward to book 2!!

I stayed up far too late reading Awaken Archangel, and honestly? I’d do it again in a heartbeat. This debut from C.J. Piperata is an inspired fusion of steampunk tech, celestial lore, and winking literary mischief. It had me laughing aloud one minute, and quietly staring into the void of my living room the next—pondering a line or a proverb that hit a little too close to home (in the best way).

Our main character, Michael, is an angel left waiting for his Letter of Calling after Heaven’s bureaucratic machinery breaks down. The department that once issued divine assignments has been dissolved, leaving him in an existential—and literal—limbo. But here’s the twist: Michael isn’t just the gladiator-in-waiting. He’s also an artist, someone who renders The Light itself in brush and pigment. That duality—of martial strength and creative vision—makes him fascinating, and the world he moves through feels at once mythic and mechanical. And is totally enchanting!

There’s a clear influence from Milton’s Paradise Lost, with layers of humor and theological satire reminiscent of Gaiman’s Sandman comics and PratchettGoing Postal and both of their delightful Good Omens. The humor is sharp but never shallow, and the worldbuilding gleams like copper under candlelight. I found myself bookmarking lines that felt both irreverent and unexpectedly wise—like this gem from Heaven’s Handbook:

> “Desire is a nagging shrew, promising the first bell’s dew. If a thing you must possess, desire then possesses you.”

If you like your fantasy speculative, spiritually playful, and a little bit steampunk, I can’t recommend this enough. And if you’re anything like me… don’t fight the temptation to start planning your reading schedule around the release of Book Two: Devil’s Dominion.

Awaken Archangel is one of those books that is full of continual surprises. It's a complete mish mash of genres and manages to be completely original in it's narrative and presentation. It's deeply steeped in religious lore, but it builds it's own religious lore around it. It's steampunk, it's coding and science, it's humanity but through the lens of angels yet to be fallen. It's historical in that sense that it takes place before humanity even existed and yet it feels contemporary. It sets itself up in such a way that Lucifer is the good guy here, even though we know how this story must end.

Anyone who has ever rubbed up against religion will know of Michael, archangel and messenger of God. Along with the story of the rebellion of Lucifer and the descent to hell. This is the story of the beginnings of that rebellion. It's also the origin story of Michael. And out of this, it builds a complex and strong world of angels where nothing is quite as black and white as it comes across in the actual Biblical texts. It's a tale of faith and science and doubt and characters who have their backs to wall and impossible decisions to make.

There's some wonderful character and world building here. I fell in love with Michael and the secondary cast of characters. But more than that, the author builds up a realised world for these angel where rebellion seems the only way forward. It goes against everything my church teachings have taught me, yet so did that folklore where Lucifer rebelled because he was merely an angel and humanity were children. Their world is breaking and this is how they fix it. You can't help but feel fore them.

All in all, this is a mix of theology, science and fantasy. It shouldn't work. It does. It drew me in and I can't wait for the next book.

Have you ever wondered what Heaven is like? What does it look like? Who will be there? I HAVE!! In "Awaken Archangel" by C.J. Piperata the author takes us on a spectacular journey into Heaven. This Sci-Fi, technological fantasy introduces us to a Heaven unlike anything you could have imagined. A Heaven where some Angels may not always act in an angelic manner.

"There are known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns. So long as we
remember this we shall remain humble." The Guide to Utopian Principals and Ethics

Strap on your wings and get ready to fly through the Hexants where you will meet Michael and Gabriel, Baalael and Lucifer (sound familiar?) A Heaven where everything is stunningly beautiful and filled with light; until it's not! A Heaven where everything is free and everyone is filled with joy; until it's not! Peace and unrest, delight and drama, good and evil!

"Eternity is, in essence, right now, always. From the eternal perspective, all of life
has only existed for an imperceptibly minuscule portion of its span, growing ever
smaller as eternity grows larger. But that does not mean things cannot change, in
fact, things will change." The Guide to Utopian Principles and Ethics, Section III, on
Existence

Not since Harry Potter has this reader been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next installment of a book series!! Awaken Archangel transported me to a place of divine serenity and breath-holding suspense. Are you ready for a battle between Good and Evil? If so, which side will you be on?

A great read that will keep you entranced from beginning to end. The world building is excellent and the characters were wonderful. They are not your typical angels. They question what they are being told and fight for what they believe is right. Trudy is a computer scientist and the only atheist working on the eastern island project. She discovers a threat to heaven hidden in the code. Michael is the key to stopping it and saving the world. This genre defiant read is one you will enjoy if you liked his dark materials and clockwork angel.

Awaken Archangel is a visionary blend of gaslamp worldbuilding, angelic warfare, and philosophical mythpunk intrigue—with a splash of Good Omens humor.
