Dragon's Captive

Rate this book
Ten years ago, monsters broke through from another world. Now they rule Earth, and humans just try to survive.

Clara has a dangerous secret. She's an omega – the type of woman these new rulers, called Primes, want most. She's stayed hidden for years by using special drugs and pretending to be normal.

Then Commander Kairyx spots her. He's not just any monster – he's a massive dragon shifter who rules the entire mountain region. And he can smell what she really is.

Captured and dragged to his mountain fortress, Clara finds herself trapped with the most powerful alpha dragon around. Her body responds to him even when her mind screams no. Heat takes over, and their bodies connect in ways she never imagined possible.

When Clara gets pregnant with Kairyx's babies – the first time he's ever been able to have children after trying with seven other women – everything changes. A rival dragon wants to steal Clara away, claiming she belongs to him instead.

Now Clara faces a choice no woman should have to make. Fight for freedom, or stay with the dragon who claimed her by force but is starting to claim her heart too.

Dragon's Captive kicks off the hot and steamy Prime Omegaverse Series! Each book features a different monster alpha and the human omega who turns their world upside down. Contains explicit adult scenes with claiming bites, knotting, and possessive alphas who always get what they want. Happy endings guaranteed!

Sweet and steamy is my thing! I just love when a hero is gentle, passionate, and protective with his heroine. It makes me melt inside. As a reader, I’ve especially come to love monster romance novels, but I couldn’t find enough that scratched that itch. So I decided to start writing!

If you love my books, please let me know by emailing allegrarosebooks@gmail.com. And be sure to leave me some reviews! I’d love to have your support. Thank you so much for reading.

DROPPED.
A poorly written plot despite the smoking hot cover.

I've never had issues with body betraying syndrome or dub-con, but this was written in bad taste. Even halfway through the story, I found it EXTREMELY hard - I STRUGGLED - to like the story.
It felt like...emotional rape. It's so obvious throughout the majority of the story that the heroine wouldn't have chosen the MMC if he never caught her.

The MCs never had their relationship defined, there was a lack of trust, no relationship building and no significant communication. It was a serious captor-captive situation-ship that never blossomed into romance. The author was trying too hard to romanticize their "relationship" and it left a bad taste in my heart and mouth.

The sex felt absolutely non-consentive.
The heroine cried when she found out she was pregnant! That's a big, fucking red flag!

And everything went according to the MMC's dictate.
Zero trust, zero respect, zero everything.
I don't care how nice and considerate he treats her after. In fact, that's the one thing I couldn't stand. How nicely he treated her, didn't feel genuine, because I can't get over the fact that he was using her body to make babies. She was more like a machine he had to ensure was working well in order to have his children delivered safely. His actions felt like motives.

Even if that wasn't the idea the author wanted to express, that was the impression left upon me.

I still can't stop fixating on the fact that Clara was a broodmare. I AM ALL IN FOR THE BREEDING KINK, BUT IT WAS SOOOO WRONG HERE. As in, we've been told that she wasn't even his first attempt at impregnating an Omega. In fact, she's the 7th, and the only successful impregnation. That gave me the ickey vibes. Soooo where are the other 6 omegas who were supposedly "HIS" and "CLAIMED" by the MMC?

It's a betrayal to the Omegaverse genre (that isn't RH), whereby, like fated mates, you should only have ONE sole mate to fixate, dedicate and love on. I'm a romantic in THAT way.

Maybe only the SMUT was good...I mean 2 cocks?? But good sex doesn't make up for the unappealing rapey romance that made me want to gag and skip everything altogether. I'd take a bodice ripper romance any day, and you'll probably ask me...WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? They're all rapey! But a bodice ripper does put in the effort to kind of develop a relationship between the MCs, unlike this...just shoving one stereotypical situation after another into our faces, trying to make us believe the characters were IN LOVE.

OVERALL this story was an epic failure in terms of the romance. It felt rapey and sad. I've read plenty of captive romances whereby the characters get to know each other - TRULY KNOW - as they overcome their differences and set aside hatred or bad feelings. Here? All I felt was being force fed my favourite omegaverse genre IN THE WORST WAY, having all the troupes shoved down my throat and demanded to BELIEVE that this was romance.

Ironically, the female's face on the book cover says it all. She's definitely NOT SMILING.

I wanted to DNF this, but I had to find out how the plot would progress. It really wasn't worth finding out. Unfortunately, under the veneer of well-written syntax, the story itself is a mess.

Literally, the story could have been half or a third as long because EVERYTHING WAS REPEATED OVER AND OVER. I swear, if I read the words "biology," "biological imperative" or "I should" again, I'll tear my hair out. On top of that, you don't need to read the smut scenes or the descriptions of Kairyx after the first time because they are all literally copy-pasted. Same wording. Same actions. No depth.

Oh, the book tried to go deep into the FMC's psyche about being a captive vs a lover, but that too was repetitive, because every time she seems to have an epiphany, the next chapter, we circle back to "a feeling she doesn't want to acknowledge" or a "feeling she can't quite yet name." 🙄

I was actually excited in the beginning because she was a librarian, and that gave her character a unique aspect, but her identity as a librarian fell mostly to the wayside of what was presented of her: namely, an unwilling captive. I'm not trying to make light of the fact that she was taken against her will. But also, that whole aspect did not sit well with me either, and afterwards, her entire persona just became one of "resistance." She had almost no other facet. I would have liked to see more sides of her - as well as more of the world and story that Rose just described in passing.

Also, I don't think the author has ever seen the Appalachians, because there is nothing rocky or craggy about them. They are literally round and green. I can give a pass on the snowstorm if they're north enough.

I gave it the extra star for the concept, the fact that the book was largely without typos (at least until the last 25%), and the fact that I finished it.

So I was really torn on this book. On one hand the premise was interesting and the smut was pretty hot, but on the other hand, Clara was taken against her will and impregnated and we see her struggle with that reality.

I went into this thinking I'd get more romance and bonding with a bunch of smutty goodness but it's not really that at all. It's actually sad and kind of dark IMO.

PLOT:

The plot follows Clara, a human omega hiding in plain sight as a beta librarian and taking heat suppression pills to stay under the radar. In this world, dragons have taken over and omegas are rounded up for breeding purposes. When dragon commander Kairyx scents her, she's abducted and brought to his lair. Detoxed, bred and claimed Clara struggles with her new life while a new challenge emerges.

THOUGHTS:

- First off the words "biology" and "biological imperative" were used WAYYYY too often. It felt like I read those exact words like 5 times every chapter and it really annoyed me.

- I personally couldn't get into Clara's story. she's terrified and angry, clinging to her humanity and autonomy and Kairyx is all, "ur an omega I'm going to claim you, you'll be begging for me".... and like I GET it, it's biology or whatever, but there's something deeply unsexy about a male lead that basically forces the female to have sex with him against her will. I don't care how "sweet and kind" he ends up being, he did not give her a choice. A trial period would have really helped this. Like he kidnaps her, they bond over the library and grow close and she comes off the suppressors or they give in to each other etc. The way it's done makes it sound like he felt guilty and the library gift is a consolation prize to keep her busy.

- Next, the thing with the kids. I thought this would be cute.... no. It was NOT. There's a scene where she's crying her eyes out, didn't even want to consider being pregnant and hoping she can love her kids. They hadn't even TALKED about kids before the claiming and now poor Clara's got babies to bring into their messed up relationship????? ALSO, human / dragon hybrids are rare and super uncommon right? so homedragon didn't even think to get her sufficient medical care or do his research before kidnapping the 7th WOMAN he's trying to impregnate???? Bro.

- The romance didn't really work for me. Clara is constantly battling herself on if she actually likes him or if it's just hormones. Kairyx seems surprised and hurt that when his claim is challenged that she's not professing her love for him. like? what? you've done nothing to bond with her, win her over and NEVER apologized for how you treated her. like seriously??

Lastly, while the ending with the kids was really cute I feel like their relationship was kind of undefined. like they're together for the kids but the origins / issues were never really worked out and they're just in love now.

I fear it may be AI.

Look, I’m not saying IT DEFINITELY IS AI. I’m just saying… it has a certain je ne sais quoi. I did force myself to finish the book, though it took me four times as long as it should have. The second half of the book seemed to have almost no articles? Not sure why. The word biology exists 73 times in this book, and biological imperative another 31. It was rough dude. Rambling and at times almost incoherent, I really wish it was half the length. I really wanted to like it for the dark romance, omegaverse, and monster aspects. But truly it was rough. Definitely will not be recommending.

Ten years after dragons tore through the sky and took over the world, Clara (h) is just trying to stay invisible. An unclaimed omega hiding among humans, she knows what happens when a Prime finds you. You’re taken. Bred. Changed. But when Commander Kairyx (H), the dominant dragon who rules her region, catches her scent, Clara’s quiet life ends. What follows is captivity, heat, and a brutal claiming that should have broken her. Instead, it starts something neither of them expected. Now carrying hybrid twins, Clara is forced to navigate a world built on power and dominance while trying to hold on to her sense of self. But the deeper the bond grows, the harder it becomes to separate biology from choice, and survival from something that feels dangerously like connection. Just like Clara, you'll find that Kairyx is a dragon you’ll hate and then fall for, as they fight for one another. A dark, steamy, intense, omegaverse romantasy, with heats, breeding, and knotting, exploring love, connection, power, consent, choice, freedom, transformation, resilience, domination, partnership, and what it means to forge a future from something that began in fire and force.

The overuse of the word biology really killed this book for me. I really tried, got to 67%. But the repetition of the same phrases and actions kept pulling me out of the story.

This review is based on the Advanced Reader Copy I received prior to publication.
The author was notified of my review, and notes.
Also, prior to publication, and may have made changes.

I really had hoped to enjoy this more than I did.

I found myself constantly being bombarded with repeated sentences, and phrases.
Unnecessary references throughout the book to Stockholm Syndrome, and just when I thought we had move passed the questioning.

It started over again constant descriptions no longer needed to point out every difference.

Myself, and my best friend grew up being different. Constantly labeled freaks, and monsters hoping that others could learn to see past the surface.
Look past the prejudices based on someone else’s opinions, and experience for themselves.

The relationship and bond formed could easily have been portrayed closer to a dom/sub relationship. It had the markers, and the making just not the execution.

This would not have been the first mating bond formed that started by claiming.
Dom/Subs have deep connections that exist well beyond the scope of a normal relationship. They require open communication and deep trust.

I thought Clara and Kairyx had reached this turning point half way through.
I hope the author will lean towards the above suggested dynamic for the future of this series.

I really liked the back stories and the main characters.
The premise, plot, and world building all started on an excellent foundation.

It just didn’t quite reach the heights it could have.
If given my open mindedness at the turning point.
The expanding of communication was on the side of the Alpha,
but I felt Clara’s immaturity and close minded attitude halted the vast opportunities being offered.

I have witnessed love occurring in the most unlikely places, and between the most unexpected.

Both in writing, and in reality. So please don’t create unnecessary barriers for your characters to grasp, and cling to.
They would be surprised by all they are missing, and these books could reach greater success. If these barriers were removed.

Just another subpar book with a pretty cover. This definitely needed an editor due to all the repetitions and errors. At one point the heroine even thinks of herself with the wrong last name. There were a lot of repitions of phrases over and over again. "You take me so beautifully" was said dozens of times throughout the book, including several times each sex scene. Also, in every single sex scene was her "unexpected orgasm" every time the hero cums in her. How "unexpected" could it really be when it happens every freaking time/day? The conflict with the rival dragon just really doesn't make sense in the context of this world where the alphas just take omegas to breed and the heroine is already a claimed and pregnant omega. I am not gonna get it into it but it just really seemed pretty contrived to make a 3rd act conflict and not something that would have naturally occured in this fake world. Another thing that irritated me in the beginning was that the heroine kept repeatedly saying she would rather die than be a captive claimed omega. She mentioned it like ten times in the first half of the book but at no point does she have any deeper thoughts about it even when she is put in a position where she could actually kill herself and escape her fate by death. Her room has an unsecured balcony on the top of the mountain that she repeatedly notes if she fell she would die. And yet, even with her repeatedly saying she would rather die and having an easy and relatively painless way of doing so she never thinks any deeper into it. All the characters, and the whole world really is just one-dimensional. Poor writing, poor editing. Poor me for reading it.

New author for me I very much enjoyed this book. It has a dark theme with a power imbalance that will never be equal yet life finds a way to build partnership and emotional connection which started as capture and coercion. Kairyk is a dragon alpha, strong, powerful dominant who takes what he wants and he wants Clara when he discovers she's an unclaimed omega hiding in plain sight. Clara is a strong determined human woman who does not want her choices taken away nor to become a captive breeder for the monsters that have taken over earth. She's intelligent, resourceful and strong willed but no match for her biological side once it becomes active. The clash of two worlds and two strong willed characters where balance can never be equal and consent is not given yet deeper bonds are formed is an emotional, gut wrenching, heart pounding plot twisting journey of discovery, adaptation, partnership, bonding, affection, surprise and more. Wonderfully told from both points of view and well balanced, richly detailed and story line cohesively moves at a good pace. A book that truly grips the reader's attention. My only criticism is there are about 3-4 phrases the author repeats too often instead of finding a different way to say the same thing so it started to feel repetitive which detracted slightly from the story hence 4 stars. Otherwise a fantastic read that took me on an emotional rollercoaster. A book that makes u feel highs and lows is great writing.

Clara, the female human omega lead, has spent a decade using suppressants and acting as part of the human resistance to hide from the magical overlords who now control Earth. Unfortunately, their effectiveness is waning when the local dragon overlord, Kairyx, the male dragon shifter alpha lead, tours the library where Clara has been head librarian. His presence is enough to disrupt her suppressants entirely and she is borne away to his home high in the mountains.

When Clara’s suppressants are cleansed from her system, she moves naturally into heat and Kairyx claims her. When her heat wanes, she’s shocked to find Kairyx is more than the overbearing brute she expected, and that he offers her more than being a breeding vessel. Adjusting to her situation somewhat, she and Kairyx begin to form a careful agreement, since Clara really can’t escape.

Then Kairyx’s rival claims that Clara should be his and stages a legal attack to force Clara to become his…

This story is female lead POV, well written, and a dark, omegaverse, dragon shifter/human, fantasy almost romance. It does end with a HEA but it’s almost a HEA by agreement. I empathised with Clara’s initial resistance position and I enjoyed seeing the change in her mindset as she explored life as it became. I enjoyed that Kairyx was an alpha open to change, and that he was interested in what Clara had to offer in addition to her womb. I enjoyed the intimate scenes that helped bridge the relationship between the lead characters.

Dragon’s Captive is the first book of the author’s new Prime Omegaverse series and doesn’t disappoint.
The world changed the day monsters came through a rift between our world and theirs, setting a new world order into motion.
Once their Alphas called Primes detected human omegas amongst the populace things went from bad to worse.
MFC Clara is a human omega who has spent the last ten years hiding by using suppressants that mask her scent, until the day they begin to fail and she also receives a notice that the regional governor Commander Kairyx Dragonscale will be inspecting the historical archive and library where she works on the following day.
It doesn’t take long after his arrival when they are in close quarters for Kairyx to detect what Clara really is and she runs from the prime alpha and is taken captive.
Though Clara fights against the alpha’s claim, once the suppressants are purged from her system and her omega heat emerges, resistance becomes futile.
This was a wonderfully written story that was character driven with excellent world building, and centers around the love that slowly develops between the two as they begin to connect emotionally, though neither will admit to the three words, I love you.
With plenty of alpha/omega spice, a pregnancy, and danger coming from a rival dragon clan leader,
I was kept very entertained by this immersive story. HEA.

A new life by MeemsAngel82

This was great! My first from this author. I do love me a good book where a fellow book lover gets their HEA! This was well written and is a full read with rounded out characters and a sensual tale. These two are great together and this was actually romantic in nature.

Omega were needed to continue on the future of these monsters. But they also found love as they were meant to be.

Scary indeed! The kidnapping was one thing and being told up that your Omega self was going to be exposed? How scary! He does care for her and he knows that she is his. I love the whole concept of these once mythical creatures coming alive and seeking their women. She went through a lot and luckily he was worth it to her! He scared her at first but because of what he was and the nature of what they were going to do. He was actually gentle with her and this was a fun and sexy read. The HEA was so sweet!

'For a dangerous moment, I allow myself to imagine a different world— one where I don't need to hide, where my secondary gender isn't a death sentence or a breeding contract. What would it be like to just be an omega without fear? To experience the biological imperatives I've chemically suppressed for a decade?'

I really enjoyed this book. Good world building. I can't imagine what Clara must feel having to chemically repress her body to hide being an omega, lest she be dragged away to some kind of breeding facility. Always alone and trying to be invisible- and lonely. Ten years she endured this way, until a sudden mandatory inspection by the alpha commander right when her supressants are beginning to fail. And after all those years, in just minutes, she is caught, and Kairyx announces his claim for all the public to hear.

The tension and suspense kept me riveted to the story. Vorthrax pressing a claim and the trial were exciting. And the birth. Those scenes bumped this story up to 5 stars for me.

⭐️⭐️

Plot - 2/5
Characters - 1/5
Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me. I don’t mind some non-con elements in fantasy or monster romance (especially when done with nuance—sue me), but this just pushed a little too far for my comfort.

Our MMC has already claimed seven other women before meeting the FMC, and his attachment to her seems to stem primarily from her falling pregnant, rather than any real emotional connection. That made it hard for me to root for the relationship.

Clara also seemed to lose much of her identity halfway through the book. Rather than continuing to grow or push back, she settles into a “this is good enough” mindset—which doesn’t make for the kind of romance arc I enjoy.

I would’ve loved to see more depth—in connection, in dialogue, in emotional stakes. Instead, it felt like the romance took a backseat to repetitive sex scenes that didn’t do much to move the story or characters forward.

Just not for me—but I know others might enjoy it depending on their preferences.

3.75 ⭐️rounded up.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Having never read from this author before, I picked this book up as a pallet cleanser (I just finished reading some soul crushing contemporary romance books and needed a break). What I thought would just be some dragon smut, turned out to be a pretty good story with a good amount of plot. I liked that the heroine stayed true to her own thoughts and beliefs throughout the entire story. This wasn’t some insta-love, fated mates storyline…both characters over time developed a deep respect for the other which then in turn led to a bond.
The thing that kept this from being a 4 ⭐️ for me was the repetition of certain words and phrases..I understand what the author was trying to convey to the readers, but at times, it just became a bit much and unnecessary.
Overall, I definitely plan on continuing with the series and this book certainly served its purpose for me…perfect palette cleanser.

"What began as claiming has become connection. What started as captivity has evolved into choice."

Ten years ago, monsters broke through from another world. Now they rule Earth, and humans just try to survive.
Clara spent years hidding her omega dinamic but all blows away when Kairyx finds her.
Abducted and claimed she struggles with confliting feelings for Kairyx.
But when threatened from another dragon ,their relationship evolves and a stronger and rare bond forms.
There's some triggers that may be disturbing for some readers so check the TW.
While there's a good plot ,I would have liked to see a more complex world building .
The spice is high with all the elements of a OV,heats, scenting, knotting, biting, and our dragon has two c*cks ,and that leads to very steamy scenes.

Layered Love Story with a twist

I enjoyed the complexity of this story while still having the whole alpha and omega dynamic that we all love. I liked how it wasn’t instant love and they had to work at getting past the biology and seeing if her loyalties really lied with her alpha once faced with adversity from the other clan.

The only reason this didn’t get a 5 is because the captive to love narrative was reiterated way too many times. Which dragged out the story unnecessarily. They spoke on it in every scenario where they could have included more of khairyx perspective instead of waiting until the end as a ploy for people to join the newsletter. One person POV takes away instead of adding to these type of stories. Otherwise amazing read and i will be reading the rest of the series.

This is the first book in the new series of Prime Omegaverse and I devoured this book. It is a full length novel that is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth that was taken over by beings from another dimension. The writing was impeccable and the story was shockingly good. If I could give this book six stars, I would have. I am so excited to read the next in the series. The book leaves open vast opportunities for stories with multitude of beings from other worlds that I am practically salivating over the prospect of the next book in the series. If you love great story-telling and compelling characters with fully developed arcs, you need to give this one a read. Excellent all the way around.

This book follows Clara, an omega, who has been in hiding. Clara’s character is portrayed as resilient and courageous. This was an interesting story and plot. Creatures have taken over the world and now humans need to learn to survive with this new reality.

If you are looking for an enemies to lovers book then this might be for you.

I was left wanting this book to go more into the magic and lore more than it actually did. There were things brought up that never went into any more detail about. Also, “biological imperative” felt like it was repeated every chapter. In a few spots there was a consistency issue.

Dragon’s Captive is the first book in Allegra Rose's new Prime Omegaverse series and was a solid 4.5 star read for me. Earth totally changed when monsters (Primes) came through a rift between the 2 worlds. The Primes take over, subjugating the humans and gathering the human omega women for breeding. Librarian Clara has been suppressing her omega biology for years, but when Commander Kairyx Dragonscale comes to visit the library, he discovers what she really is and captures her. These characters are compelling, well written, there is sizzle, steam, action, drama, and more. Great start to this series.

Meh. 2.5 stars.

I enjoyed the overall idea of this book. Omegaverse, FMC has been hiding in plain site and taking suppressants to hide what she is. One of the Dragon rulers discovers her and decides to take her.

I came here for the non-con, but found that I actually didn’t enjoy it. The FMC was too meek IMO (she kept saying, “I’d rather die than give in to you” but then there was literally no resistance. I don’t love a doormat).

Then there was the repetition. The amount of times “biological imperative” or “biology” were used is staggering. Also, the author would state something and then repeat it over and over.

This does end in an eventual HEA. I won’t be reading any other books in the series though.

Repetitive

The cover hooked me right away (yes, I absolutely believe in judging a book by its cover, and this one did not disappoint visually. )The story itself was engaging, with a strong storyline that kept me curious about what would happen next.

That said, the repetitiveness started to wear on me. I don’t need to be reminded at the start of every chapter about the universe, the backstory, and how everything began, I was following just fine without the constant recap. While I appreciated the worldbuilding, I would’ve preferred the narrative to trust the reader a little more and let the plot move forward.

Overall, a captivating read with great potential, but the pacing could have been tighter without the repeated explanations.

Allegra Rose did this one right. An omega, Clara, hidden in plain sight for many years as a librarian, got found out by the top dragon, Kairyx and she's was spitting mad.

Clara was intelligent and determined and not easily won over, nor did she sugarcoat what Kairyx did to her in the beginning throughout the entire story. I loved the respect they came to have for each other. I enjoyed the twins coming into the story as well and not as an epilogue, although, I did love the epilogue.

As always, be sure to check your triggers before reading, otherwise, dive in!.

Clara has been hiding a secret for ten years, now her secret is out and a dragon has taken her. Kairyx knows Clara will go into heat now the suppressants are out of her system and he intends to make her his breeding vessel. They both have a lot of issues to address if they stand any chance of becoming a couple. Not least of which is forced to be a breeder.

Clara has been hiding in plain sight for ten years now... she's an omega and has been using suppressants to hide... but, now she must meet the Commander Kairyx at her library and he knows right away that she is an omega and kidnaps her ... so good !! the push and pull... the slow burn ... the everything !!.

this is one of the rare times I’ll rate a book I dnfd. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT listen to the audiobook, not only is it an AI voice… it’s a male AI voice which was…. A choice. Also it felt like whole parts of this book were either copy/pasted, or written with AI. And if the words biology/biological/biologically show up one more time I might just take a hostage.

It’s a shame because the beginning had me despite the narration. The world and storyline is unique and interesting, just not interesting enough for me to follow through with finishing it.

Clara is an omega who is taking meds to hide her omega status. Kairyx is a Prime who discovers Clara and claims her as his omega, his possession. They slowly develope a partnership and she discoveres that she no longer wants freedom if it's without Kairyx. "I may never have chosen this world or these circumstances, but I choose your now.".

“Dragon’s Captive” by Allegra Rose

-A steamy, high-stakes omegaverse romance with rich world-building and sizzling tension. I received a free copy of this book and am freely sharing my opinion.
Clara’s strength and Kairyx’s dominance clash, then evolve into mutual respect and passion.
Dark themes of control and choice are balanced with emotional growth and connection.
A gripping start to the series that blends heat, heart, and fantasy perfectly.
