Bloodfire Orcs #3

The Orc's Innocent Plaything

Rate this book
A midwife should have some understanding of pleasure, aye? And I know just the male to teach me…

I came through the stones to the orc’s world to help with my sister’s birth. So many human women have Mated with orc males, and I’ve long grown accustomed to the way their brutish features hide honorable and caring hearts. But there’s one male, the acting chief of our cozy little village, who drives me absolutely mad.

Vartok is charming and flirtatious with everyone else…but with me, he’s demanding, rude, and teasing. So why does my body respond so fiercely to his nearness? When my sister jokes yet again about the pleasure found between a male and female—pleasure I have never experienced—I have one too many ales and decide to do something about it.

After all, Vartok is known far and wide as the most experienced at pleasure. Why should he not be the one to teach me about such things? But I don’t expect the bargain he makes…a bargain I cannot object to, when I learn exactly what it will mean for me!

another spicy romantasy featuring an intimacy bargain between a hot kilted orc and his v-card-carrying human plaything…who have to learn to work together when everything goes wrong!

Veronika Kane is the monster-loving alter-ego of USA Today Bestselling Author Caroline Lee. One of Caroline's favorite genres to read is SciFi Romance, which led her to monster romance. When she discovered it was possible to set big, buff, delicious monsters in contemporary cozy small towns, she was sold. And that's how she ended up with a new pen name and a new series.

Welcome to the town of Eastshore Isle, the only beach town on the east coast experiencing negative population growth. You know who's going to help save the town? That's right; super-sexy, laugh-out-loud orcs.

Just like Caroline's HistRomComs, except greener.

The Orc’s Innocent Plaything by Veronika Kane
Bloodfire Orcs series #3. Paranormal orcs historical romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
Myra traveled through the magical stones to the orc world a few months after her sister went through with her mate. Myra knows she can use her midwife skills to help others. She’s drawn to Vartok, the Bloodfire smith but he treats her differently from anyone else. Teased by her sister about her inexperience in pleasure, Myra downs a few glasses of ale and stomps over to ask Vartok for lessons. He’s, of course, thrilled. His kteer has known Myra is his mate and this is the perfect time to help her become comfortable with herself and her needs.

True medicinal plant usage. Not so real orcs and ridges though I’m sure many wish it was real. Count me in.
Entertaining with super sexy times, this historical romance is a fast read.
Low angst, high heat, small town, orcs. A romp through the highlands that will leave you a little rumpled and a lot satisfied.

This was a great addition to Veronika Kane’s works!! I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!

What I loved:
1. I loved that Myra always had to be so controlled and decisive in her role as a healer but she really thrived by letting go and letting someone else lead in the bedroom!! As someone who is a leading, board meeting babe during the day, this is definitely something I can relate to 😉

However, despite him being “in control” during all of their intimate times, he made it very clear that he would never want to do something that made her uncomfortable, and thus empowered her to speak up and he would stop immediately. He frequently checked in with her and frequently took things slow and counter to what he really wanted in order to keep her feeling safe and secure in their power dynamic, ultimately showing that she truly had all the power. This was perfection and absolutely what a dom/sub relationship should look like.

2. I loved that he didn’t treat her the same as other women, because he knew from the beginning she was his mate but he didn’t think she wanted anything to do with him so he distanced himself. I further loved how she hated that he didn’t flirt with her like he did all the others, but then when he did she hated that she didn’t feel special enough (though, she couldn't have been more wrong about his feelings and intentions). Again, so freaking realistic!!!!

3. I loved that Nan had a larger role in this book, often working alongside Myra as the two healers in the village. I caveat this with I haven’t read book 1 in this series yet, but I feel she was instrumental in this book specifically, especially because she ultimately pushed these two together.

I also love that Nan is human and the tribe all but knows that she is really the one in charge of all these orcs 🤣 I really want Nan’s backstory!!

4. I loved the ending (Shhhhh I’m not saying more!), and I can’t wait for the next book because I think it’s going to be even spicier!!!

5. I liked seeing a connection to Kane’s Stolen Harlots series, since when I read that series the Bloodfire Clan (the clan this current series is based on) were the enemies. It seems the enemies will come together and potentially see they have more in common than differences? But who knows! I’m interested to see how these clans with interact going forward.

6. Who doesn’t love a good intimacy bargain trope?? I love it especially when the MMC is a former playboy who falls first!!

7. Finally, the book was spicy and full of heart, like I’ve come to expect from Veronika Kane 😊

Thank you to Veronika Kane for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

This book is undoubtedly the hottest one yet in this series, and every spicy moment serves a purpose. Myra is a midwife who crossed the veil to support her sister during her sister’s pregnancy and has become indispensable to the clan. She also keeps tight control over every aspect of her life, until she propositions Vartok, the clan Blacksmith, into providing her with lessons in intimacy since he’s known in the clan for attending to others’ pleasure. The thing is, they both have feelings for the other that they’ve hidden…and now they’ve got to figure that out, too. Will they or won’t they? Read and find out!

Tropes: Fated Mates; intimacy bargain/bet; intimacy lessons; virgin heroine; reformed rake hero; Blacksmith & [insert heroine role]

I received an early version of this book and happily give my review.

4& 1\2 🌟's for The Orcs Innocent Plaything🔥🔥💖🌟

This is book 3 in the Bkoodfire Orcs series and thus far my favorite. Vartok and Myra have been circling one another sin e the very first story. Vartok is temporary chief of the Blood fire clan . He's only taken on this responsibility because his elder brother went missing several months the ago during a battle.. He's been shouldering the fate of the clan he loves By himself. on top of this Myra his cousins wife's sister has come to live with the clan because she is a midwife and her sister is pregnant. Myra loves the Orc village and doesn't plan too leave she just wishes Vartok didn't seen to dislike her. She doesn't seem to understand where his dislike of her comes from. Barton just thinks she's a bit cold and doesn't like him so he tries to stay away. What this is, is a huge misunderstanding. They both like each other too much but don't actually talk or listen. When Myra's sister needs a plant too help heal hear after the baby's birth these two set off one mission to save Avaleen and on the journey discover how much they truly love one another! Their is a bit of spicy lessons that go on that !dad up to them realizing that is hat they have is really special and made to lat w life time. Totally Recommend🌟💖🔥🔥💖💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🔥🌟🌟💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥

The best one yet IMO! We finally get to see Myra and Vartok's story, a classic case of misunderstanding.

Myra feels that since she arrived in the village, Vartok has treated her coldly or ignored her and he's a notorious flirt but never gave her the time of day. Vartok feels Myra was cold and distant and wanted nothing to do with him so he respected her wishes even though he knew they were mates. When Myra comes to him with a proposition - teach her about pleasure - they both find a deeper connection and unravel the misunderstandings of the past.

THOUGHTS:

- I thought this was very cute! Myra is a strong woman hiding fears and insecurities behind a confident and cool mask. Vartok is a player who's been thrust into the role of acting chief while his brother is missing - a role he wants nothing to do with.

- they both have their own issues and insecurities but they communicate with each other and end up stronger than they were apart.

- the smut was pretty hot and we get a bunch of it throughout the book which I appreciated.

- I thought it was a great choice for them to wait to try for kitlings. it felt very mature and given Myra's job as a midwife and the traumatic birth mentioned it felt right for them to wait a bit.

This is book 3 of the historic Orc Blood Fire Clan series. It is best to read them in order as all the characters from the previous books make an appearance in each of the new ones. You can always catch up on the back history of each human after you read this book!

I could really relate to Myra. She is a very reserved and keeps her emotions close to herself. As a healer dealing with patients and family members, and how women are treated in the "human" world makes it difficult to express her feelings and actually take care of her needs and wants. To some Orcs she appears Icy, or standoffish.

Vartok, the Orc blacksmith and current chief of the clan knows Myra is his mate but feels she does not want a thing to do with him so avoids her. The story is Myra getting the courage to go after what she want and Vartok shows her the pleasures she deserves. It is a very spicy book.

What I like most about these books are that the Orcs always makes sure the female is in control and can say stop or I don't like this, etc. The Orcs are very conscience of making sure their female is happy.

This is a steamy orc romantasy! It is the third installment in the Bloodfire Orcs series, which can be read out of order, with some minor spoilers.

Human FMC Myra is a midwife living with the Bloodfire clan. She’s focused on being useful and caring for her pregnant sister, but lately she’s realizing she doesn’t have any firsthand experience with how babies are actually made. But, she knows just the orc to help her learn, MMC Vartok, the clan’s blacksmith, who has been standing in as chief.

This was a fun and spicy installment in the series. Both characters are clearly drawn to each other but put up walls and masks, leading to plenty of miscommunication. I wanted to shake them and make them just talk it out, but they worked through things with their bodies instead, creating a titillating dynamic. This book also expanded the world and introduced new characters who seem to be paving the way for future books or series.

I can’t wait to find out what happens in book 4, The Orc's Eager Captive. Kragorn has been such an important part of the story, I’m excited to finally see what’s been happening with him.

I loved finally getting Vartok’s story! Him and Myra have been at odds ever since she came to his village. It was wonderful to finally see why. I loved how amazing Vartok was. He was so infatuated with Myra that he was willing to take what she offered/wanted-spicy lessons. Then he showed her through his touch and his care how he felt about her. Beautiful. I loved how Myra and Vartok were able to be their authentic selves around each other. He could talk about his fears and doubts as interim chief. She could talk about the struggles and fears of being a midwife. She has worked so hard and long at being the one people turn to in need. But with Vartok she can let go and be the one taken care of.
Their spice was spicy! So good!! It took some time but they were able to get their happily ever after! Loved the story and loved them! Can’t wait for the next book!

I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Vartok and Myra are too cute

This is book three in the Bloodfire series. We find ourselves with two people who are having serious communication issues. Vartok and Myra are both thinking the wrong way about each other. Vartok has been elevated to Chief since his brother is still missing. Myra came over from the human realm to help her sister deliver her baby aka bairn when the time comes. Mayra is finally getting used to the village, but states that she still feels like an outsider Both Vartok and Myra are fighting their match; it’s not like hard fighting, it is more like they are trying to ignore the pull. Obviously this will not work for long because Vartok’s eyes are starting to glow in that special green color. Mayra is so shy and we all hope she can grow and learn to accept her feelings for Vartok. There is a happy ending for our favorite clan members and this couple. Read On!

Overall, I've really enjoyed this series. I thought this couple was really sweet. My only complaint is that there is an apparent dearth of females, yet somehow the MMC has all this experience with them anyhow. In the very beginning the book states that the females "human and orc alike" whisper about what a great lover he is, yet in the same chapter it is said that every other human (besides Myra) in the village is mated to an orc. So who are the human females in the village who supposedly have experience with him? If he's regularly crossing the veil (which wouldn't make sense for the local blacksmith) for these experiences, then the females would be elsewhere and not in the village whispering. And we just have to trust that orc women exist since only one is ever even mentioned as far as I could tell.

My least favorite so far. As long as the author uses the extremely offensive word for female genitalia, I will continue with pointing it out. It is NOT historically Scottish. The root word was first recorded in the 13th century in Oxford, England (a different country at the time and far south of the Highlands) and soon became associated with ladies of the night. I don't know, maybe the author is implying that all of her heroines are prostitutes (I know one was and was very ashamed of it), and the heroes are all customers. It doesn't need to be used and is vulgar. To the point where I skipped over most of the spicy parts just so I didn't have to read it.

BTW, there are others of us with degrees in history (both BA and MA) who are also capable of doing research (since 1991).

Loved this! I’m a sucker for a “he falls first” and this story of an orc who found his fated mate but never told her… paired with the human woman who thinks the rakish orc wants everybody but her.. *chefs kiss*

I love that both of these characters are so overwhelmed with responsibilities that they find escape, companionship and release within one another. Once their relationship all comes to a head, it is so sticky sweet that I absolutely swoon at every single time he kisses her temple or she reaches for him.

This is such a great series with each couples story riding alongside the main plot and I cannot wait to get the next book!

Pure Enjoyment!
The Blacksmith and the Midwife, Vartok and Myra, light up the pages of this book with a fire that is almost to hot to handle.
I loved the denial between them and how each of them fought against it until they couldn't.
(And then I read the teaser for the next story and oh dear, how on earth am I going to be able to wait for the rest of that that one?)
I read an early copy of 'The Orc's Innocent Plaything' and am happy to recommend it as a story full of fun, adventure and happy entertainment.

💚 Fated Mates
💚 Blacksmith MMC
💚 Healer/ Midwife FMC
💚 Reformed Player x Virgin (but make it historical)
💚 Spicy Lessons

Vartok and Myra have assumed the other doesn't like them for months. Vartok knows she's his Mate but doesn't want to make her uncomfortable.

When Myra wants to ~learn~ she goes to the sexy blacksmith with well endorsed skills in the bedroom. She assumes he will never actually want her. He assumes this is all she'll ever give him.

I loved these two. I wanted to scream at these two.

Great Orc story

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of Myra the healer and Vartok the Blacksmith/Stand-in-Chief. Their relationship was fun to watch blossom. He knew she was his mate from the start, but she took his respect and admiration for her as indifference. Once they were able to be in each other’s space, the truth of their bond couldnt be hidden - even if Myra didn’t fully understand.

While there was lots of passion and “teach me” moments, there was also caring , strength, family bonds, and love. A fun tale all around with a dash of humor to keep things interesting.

Veronika Kane's newest Bloodfire Orcs book is so wonderful that I'mgoing to go back and read the first one! Myra is a midwife who came through the veil to be with her sister who is mated to an orc. Vartok is an orc blacksmith who has a reputation with the ladies but who secretly wants only Myra who believes he hates her. When dhe decides she no longer wants to be a virgin, she enlists him to be her tutor. Boy, does she get schooled!

The Orc’s Innocent Plaything
By Veronika Kane

Oh my word, Roni has outdone herself. This book is so good and so hot, you’ll need to read it in one sitting because once you start reading you won’t be able to put it down. That’s exactly what happened to me. Started reading in morning and read ALL day. It was engaging and absorbing and made for a wonderful relaxing day of leisure. I really can’t say enough positive adjectives to describe it. It’s an amazing book. Have fun.

This part is simply the best one from all instalments of Bloodfire Clan series. The communication and dialogues between characters are probably what I loved the most here. Their chemistry is right on spot.
And of course Vartok, he is "my type" of here and I always like book boyfriends like him.
The story is super juicy with a light touch of BDSM.
I have really enjoyed reading it.

From Innocent to Mate

He thought her stoic behavior was natural, but the more he learned about her, as she let her defenses down, he realized as a healer this was her professional facade. She had crushed on him and he knew she was his fated mate. They acknowledged their feelings for each other during a quest and finally got their HEA.

Wow! The epilogue truly provided a happily ever after for our main characters. I loved the ending! I can’t help but smile when I think of that final scene where Myra fetched Vartok from the council meeting. It’s wonderful to see how much their relationship has grown since the beginning.

Another great Orc short to sink your teeth into. A nice quick read to cleanse the palate when you read so much dark romance.

Veronika really brought the spice with this little nugget. Vartok really knows how to teach icy innocent little Myra a thing or two about pleasure 😉.

I like stories where there is a power exchange in the smut but not where there is a power imbalance. In this story, the hero has all of the power, so his control sexually over the heroine, who has no power and only a tenuous place in their society, borders on abusive. Not my cuppa.
