Breathe in the nostalgia of everything old red truck in book three of a new cozy mystery series.
It’s less than a week until Christmas in Mabank, Texas, and just a few days away from RaeLyn and Mason’s wedding on Hadley ranch. Unfortunately, a wildfire with mysterious origin is rapidly traveling across several counties and headed right for the Hadley acreage. Fire fighters rush to put it out before the family homestead goes up in flames, taking the business and the old red truck with it. Their perfect wedding may be ruined, and RaeLyn and Mason are determined to find the source of the fire.
"I'm not a spring chicken. I'm more of a well seasoned hen."
While not verbatim, that quote from Aunt Bessie Mae had me cackling.
Mistletoe and Mayhem is the third book in the Red Truck Mysteries. Just like the first two, it's full of small town drama, humor, fun characters, and a mystery. There is more romance in this book than the other two, and it's cute to see how things end up for certain characters.
Thompson infused this story with a healthy helping of faith, which I appreciated. The reader is reminded that, no matter how stormy life gets, God is in control. A certain scene, which readers later learn was inspired by a real-life event, was particularly poignant. The scene involves a fire, and since, last year, my county suffered through one of the worst recorded fires in my state's history, it definitely hit home.
I mentioned there is more romance, and some of that involves allusions of a wedding night between a new couple. Thompson handles this quite tastefully and keeps it not only clean, but wholesome as well. There's no cringe, no unnecessary details, and no spice or steam.
Content Matter: Arson, lives threatened by fire, vague hints at a wedding night. All are written well.
I do recommend reading this series in order. This is a cute little series that is sure to charm any reader who enjoys adorable couples, small-town drama, a bit of mystery, and an outrageously hilarious great-aunt. I hope Thompson writes more series in a similar vein.
*I received a copy of this book for promotional purposes from NetGalley in conjunction with the publisher. A positive review was not required.
I enjoyed this story so much. Who doesn’t like a suspenseful wildfire, a sweet wedding, and cozy mystery? It was fun to be with RaeLyn and Mason as they approach the big day and the mystery around the wildfire was really good. I figured out the culprit, but the emergency measures were written well. I live in OK and have seen or smelt enough to know they’re scary. Very much enjoyed and hope there will be more.
I just love stories that take place at Christmastime! In Mistletoe and Mayhem, a wedding is to take place at Hadley Ranch, however, the joy of a Christmastime union is threatened by a raging fire.
This is a fun small-town story with heaping helpings of romance and charm, and a side portion of mystery. While I’ve read other books by this author, I haven’t read the previous two in this series—but this one certainly makes me want to!
I connected with the bride, Raelyn, and empathized with her. Wedding planning is enough stress to deal with, let alone an approaching fire threatening her special day and the family ranch. Mason, the groom, is easy to love, and Aunt Bessie is loads of fun. The spiritual elements are what binds this cozy story together so effortlessly.
First Line: “Mom, please don’t cry.” Series: The Little Red Truck Mysteries Genre: Christian Mystery & Suspense Author: Janice Thompson Page Count: 256

Imagine that there is a wildfire in your town where many lose everything, only to have the fire end right as it’s about to touch your property. Then a few days later there is a massive storm that brings much needed rain to your community, but leaves a tad bit of damage behind. That’s what happens to RaeLyn and Mason the week before their wedding that is supposed to take place after Christmas in Mistletoe and Mayhem by Janice Thompson. Mistletoe and Mayhem is the third installment in Ms. Thompson’s The Little Red Truck Mysteries series. As RaeLyn prepares for her dream wedding with her dream guy, Mason, she is faced with the reality that she may have to alter her plans somewhat. Choosing to Trust God is easier said than done, but that’s what RaeLyn chooses to do. As RaeLyn trusts God with her wedding, she can’t get the trauma of the fire out of her mind. Was the fire really caused by dry lightning? Or was it done by disgruntled friend Buck as retaliation against Frasier Oil? Or were teenagers, Karter and Kenner, deemed heroes of the wildfire to blame? Or was it Aaron, the local firefighter who just got fired? RaeLyn just has to trust those over the investigation to get to the bottom of it. Frankly, RaeLyn’s too busy getting ready for her big day to worry about anything else!
I loved reading Janice Thompson’s Mistletoe and Mayhem and getting reunited with Ms. Thompson’s characters from The Little Red Truck Mysteries! Mistletoe and Mayhem is a cozy mystery with more cozy than mystery—and in this instance that’s ok, given the point of the plot. I was amazed at how much RaeLyn focused on her wedding and let the investigators do their job, despite her sleuthing instincts going into overdrive. (Even though RaeLyn did pass along information and ideas to the authorities a time or two.) I love the interpersonal reflection and praying that RaeLyn did regarding her wedding after the fire and storm, trusting God and choosing to see that as long as Mason and those she loved were with her at the wedding, that’s all that mattered. I love how much prayer and Trusting God was a strong thread in the storyline. I thought Mason was the sweetest— especially the way he treated and cherished RaeLyn! Aunt Bessie Mae was a hoot and reminded me of Aunt Bess from Gayle Leeson’s Down South Cafe Mysteries! (That’s a good thing, because we all need a Bessie Mae in our lives!) I understand that RaeLyn’s Mom was having difficulty going through the things going on in the book, but she often came across as being annoying to me at times, especially if she still carried hurt over people’s decisions that she didn’t approve of. (That is purely a personal opinion and did not take away from me enjoying Mistletoe and Mayhem.) I loved Mistletoe and Mayhem, but I wanted more mystery than what I got. I completely understand why there was more cozy than mystery in it, I just personally missed having a proper dose of mystery in the book for me. Despite the lack of mystery in the book for me, I still really enjoyed Mistletoe and Mayhem and the reminders of Trusting God woven throughout the book. If you are looking for a Christmassy escape that has a powerful lesson of Trusting God and Him performing Miracles, with a dash of mystery mixed in, then I recommend you read Mistletoe and Mayhem by Janice Thompson!
Have you read Mistletoe and Mayhem? What did you think of the book?
I would like to thank the Publisher, NetGalley, and Celebrate Lit Blogging Tours for giving me a copy of Mistletoe and Mayhem to review, for letting me be a part of the Mistletoe and Mayhem Celebration Tour, and for providing the information needed for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My review is also on NetGalley, Amazon, and my blog Leslie's Library Escape.
If you are looking for a fun and faith filled cozy mystery look no further. The author is very gifted in creating stories that are relatable with characters that you fall in love with. This is part of a series but I think you could still read it and jump right in without feeling lost. Although reading the entire series gives you a better feel of the characters and how they each play a role in the overall series.
This is written with a southern feeling and boy does it give you some belly laughs. From iced tea to country living you will be transported to a small town in Texas. They love Blue Bell cream, family get together and Aunt Bessie’s cooking. Don’t miss the laugh out loud southern sayings that show the author’s personality.
When the threat of wildfire, chaos breaks out. Scrambling to save their land, salvage an upcoming wedding and rescuing the old red truck, the story takes on energy. I loved how the family works together while sharing precious memories during this unexpected interruption to their lives. I was thinking about the fires that have destroyed cities lately and how devastating it was.
RaeLyn is a few days away from her wedding but sees it slipping away as the smoke can be seen getting closer. She has dreamed of this special day for so long. Will it be ruined by a fire that was mysteriously set? She tries to stay calm but as you know brides want everything to be perfect on their special day. I love how she thinks of her family and makes sure everyone is safe from the impending disaster.
Now my favorite character is Aunt Bessie Mae. Her spunk is contagious and I feel like she holds the family together. Her cooking is so special that I want to be invited to eat with her. I can imagine the country fried steak, mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, black-eyed peas, made from scratch cornbread and of course her mouth watering apple pie with crust that melts in your mouth. Who’s ready to get an invitation from Aunt Bessie Mae?
There is a little mystery with the fire that I really enjoyed. Was it set out of greed or by accident? Will the wedding still take place? Can this family save their land or will it be destroyed? Get ready for lots of laughs and enjoyable characters in this small town cozy mystery.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
It's finally happening! RaeLyn and Mason are getting married with Tilly as co-star! However, it wouldn't be The Little Red Truck Mysteries without some laughter and tears and a whole lot of mayhem for the rambunctious and quirky Hadley clan.
To start with, I have to say that this cover is one of my favorites this year. Elements of the story are everywhere and Pawpaw's, now RaeLyn's, truck, Tilly, is front and center where she should be. Mistletoe And Mayhem was both an interesting and fun read....and, as someone who lives in a state with frequent forest fires, a little chilling to think about. Seriously, Janice Thompson did an excellent job capturing the intense thoughts and frantic desperation when fire is at your doorstep.
There was a little less mystery in Mistletoe And Mayhem than in the previous Little Red Truck Mysteries but it was no less enjoyable. Riding along with RaeLyn, Mason, and the rest of the Hadleys for that final week leading up to the amazing Christmas themed wedding filled with all things Texas and traditional was definitely fun.
The mystery thread, was still interesting as the suspects in the wildfire are not the people who might have might not normally have invited suspicion. Janice Thompson did a good job peppering clues, red herrings, and drama throughout the story and the final revelation of who-done-it.
I honestly don't know if there will be more Little Red Truck Mysteries but I know that I have liked the three that have been released. Janice Thompson does cozy mystery just as well as her romantic comedies and I try not to miss any of them. Just know that when you read Mistletoe And Mayhem you might want to have a little snack with you because these Texans really know how to eat....
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Thank you to Barbour Publishing, Janice Thompson, and NetGalley for granting me access to an eARC of this book to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s less than a week until Raelyn is marrying Mason and Christmas is right in the middle. Right before Christmas a wildfire nearly takes out Raelyn’s family property. Everyone is unsure if it is arson or dry lightning that started it. There are several possible culprits. Also the groom seems to be extraordinarily busy. There is a lot to figure out.
This was my favorite of this cute, Texas themed, Christian cozy mystery series! However, this book really did not have much to do with a mystery. There was a bit of a mystery but the fire and the wedding took center stage. Therefore, I couldn’t really rate it any higher than I did. I gave it a four star rating on here, but it really was more of a 3.5 stars. I enjoyed all the wedding and family threads, but would have loved more of the mystery. There are several threads of the story that I would have loved more information on. One of my favorite things about the whole series has been the East Texas setting, which is very similar to my West Louisiana home. There is quite a bit of faith in this book, but yet it doesn’t feel overly preachy.
If you love clean, cozy stories about family then you will love this book- especially if you love Texas and Christmas. If you are looking for a good mystery, then this is probably not your book because the mystery takes the backseat.
I really enjoy Christian Cozy Mystery stories. Mistletoe and Mayhem by Janice Thompson is Book 3 in the Little Red Truck Mysteries series. I have been enjoying this series from the beginning and have been looking forward to this book!
II dove right into this book and was engrossed into the storyline immediately. Raelyn and Mason and Aunt Bessie are the main characters in this book. The setting is Christmas time in a small town, Mabank, Texas. Raelyn and Mason are in the midst of joy and happiness as their Christmas themed wedding is only a week away! Their joy turns to Worry when a Suspicious Wildfire is heading toward the Hadley Ranch, where the wedding it supposed to take place. Raelyn and Mason decide that they will not allow these Wildfires to ruin their wedding and actually think it could be more then an accident. I LOVE how they take action and begin to investigate the origin of these Fires. Raelyn is such an AMAZING character in this storyline. She wants to not only save her Wedding, but her concern is for the Family Ranch as a whole. Mason is a true gentleman in this story and his love for Raelyn shows in his actions. Aunt Bessie is such an AMAZING character for this storyline and she makes me laugh throughout the book. I also LOVE how they rely on God throughout this situation. The book is one of Mystery, LOVE, Family and recognizing that God is in Control. I really hope there are books in this series as I am truly enjoying this series! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Cozy Mysteries and Small Town family life. AMAZING BOOK!
I enjoyed this finale to the Little Red Truck Series. We see RaeLyn prepare for her wedding to Mason, investigate an arson, help Aunt Bessie Mae move to her new home, counsel siblings on upcoming familial events including a proposal and a new addition to the family. Whew! The entire book takes place in only a week's time. I thought the story was a little too compact for my taste. I also considered a 4 star rating due to the excessive rambling about the sage green and honey brown wedding colors. For a Christmas wedding, sorry I just can't picture that! Thompson redeemed the entire story for me by making RaeLyn a considerate bride who cared about the comfort and enjoyment of friends and family as much or more than her own. This to me signifies true love. When a couple view their wedding as the start of a God-centered home and family. Not just a lavish party with an all about me bride like we see on reality tv. No friends, the way RaeLyn and her groom Mason conducted themselves shows class and integrity. This is how God intended love and romance to look. So many books, movies and tv shows cheapen the sacred event of joining a couple in holy matrimony. This was a refreshing and inspirational read. Girls, don't settle for anything less! I received this book from Barbour Publishing with no obligation to post a review.
Mistletoe and Mayhem is a sweet cozy mystery with enough suspense to keep it moving and enough romance to make it fun. It was so fun to read. I loved the characters and watching them face the hard times that came their way.
This is the third book in a series, and yes, you do need to read them in order. I’m always an advocate of reading books in order, but this one you really do need to read the first two books first.
The series is the Little Red Truck. If you’ve got a toddler boy, you’ll know about the Little Blue Truck series. My son is obsessed, and we have them all. We also read them all multiple times a day. So, when I was reading this novel, he was forever trying to get me to read the truck book out loud to him. And yes, you can paraphrase it for a toddler. He loved hearing about fires and trucks.
Even if you don’t have a toddler who is obsessed with trucks, you’re going to love this one!

This author is delightful, and I enjoy spending time with this lovely family, which includes Raelynn and Mason. This is the third book in the series, and while it may be read on its own, it is best enjoyed after reading the first two. Sweet Christmas story. True Texas fashion is larger-than-life.
The focus in this novel is on Raelyn and Mason's wedding and it’s surprises that nearly destroyed everything. Since Raelyn fancies herself as having sleuth abilities, she starts asking questions, trying to track down clues as she heads to the final days of her wedding and a week away from Christmas. If you are looking for a book that makes you smile inside and out this is the book for you.

This one was just okay for me. The story moved a bit slowly, and I had a hard time really getting drawn in. I later realized that it’s actually the third book in a series, which probably explains why I felt a little disconnected from the characters and storyline at times. I’m giving it an extra star for that reason — I imagine readers who’ve followed the series from the beginning might enjoy it more.
Overall, it wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but fans of the series or those who enjoy a cozy, slower-paced holiday read may find it charming.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy of Mistletoe and Mayhem in exchange for my honest review.
My rating system: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Absolutely loved it! I’d read it again… if my TBR pile weren’t already taller than me. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Really great read! Thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily recommend it to others. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Glad I read it! A solid read, and I might check out more from this author. ⭐️⭐️ – Just okay. Not terrible, but I kind of wish I’d picked something else. ⭐️ – Nope. Didn’t connect with it and wouldn’t recommend.
Tillie has stolen my heart along with all of her lovable family and their friends. Janice Thompson has done a great job with combining romance and mystery along withe the family dramas, heartaches and joys. It's almost time for Mason and Raelyn's wedding to take place but Raelyn's long-held dream of celebrating this special day on her family's farm is threatened by a terrible fire that goes roaring through the countryside. Drawing on a real life experience, Ms. Thompson brings a miracle to the family along with surprises along the way that Raelyn will never forget. Will the wedding take place as planned or will it have to be moved to indoors? After all, it is December and the Texas weather in unpredictable. Will Mom and Meghan get past the strain in their relationship? What happened when Tasha's parents decide to retire instead of running Fish Tales? Why is Mason being so secretive about his plans for where he and Raelyn will make their home after the wedding? And what does the grouchy old Buck Adler have to do with this? Pick it up - you won't want to put it down until the final page is turned
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” ISAIAH 43:1–3
Outside the small Texas town of Mabank, RaeLyn Hadley’s life dream of the perfect ranch wedding is about to come true. So we discover in Janice Thompson’s cozy mystery, Mistletoe and Mayhem, #3 The Little Red Truck Mysteries. These books are all quick, rather amusing reads. I would suggest reading them in order to get the best feel for the series and characters. Several secondary and tertiary characters are repeats from the first two books, and I got a clearer picture of them. In fact, the bride-to-be and main character-sleuth is beginning to rub off on me. Just as RaeLyn has an “infamous spreadsheet” for every wedding detail she’s planned, my spreadsheet would show which characters I now put into categories of “like,” “love,” ”don’t like,” or “wish they would change this trait.”
As the wedding approaches, RaeLyn wonders if fiancé Mason is getting cold feet. Their usual communication and time together is tanking. Uh-oh.
I loved every minute we get to see Aunt Bessie Mae. As unique as her name, she is a blessing and a veritable matriarch of the family, though she has no children.
I did want to give RaeLyn’s mom a good shaking. A parent needs to be willing to let her children mature and fly the coop. Yet RaeLyn’s mom is grasping each grown child by their tail feathers as they strive to make an independent life for themselves. I thought she would create her own Hades on earth! in her efforts to keep anything from changing.
Even this quiet little town has its share of greed, big corporations, rumors, and disasters. And of course, RaeLyn is neck-deep in it all the week of her wedding, when disaster strikes. Will the ranch survive? The wedding take place?
Miraculously, through it all, RaeLyn manages to look out for others. She has a heart as big as Texas for her ever-expanding family. She encourages her blacklisted sister-in-law. “God redeems every situation, if we let Him. And clearly, you’ve let Him. Now He’s given you the desires of your heart.”
Despite the turmoil and the search for an instigator, RaeLyn clings to her faith. She knows that is how they will all overcome the difficulties. “And pray... That’s the best gift you can give us right now. Pray.”
For those who like cozies with a bit of Texas Blue Bell ice cream, small ranches, changing families, and faith, this is a series to be enjoyed.
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“But there was coming a day when all would be made right.”
“A hug could solve a thousand problems,” [my personal fave quote, next to Isaiah 43]
Big changes are coming for RaeLyn and her family. RaeLyn and Mason are getting married, and poor Mrs. Hadley is having a hard time wanting to let her baby girl go. What secret plans does Mason have for him and RaeLyn? Is it just as RaeLyn's mother fears and he wants to take her far away? No, it couldn't be that as he knows how much RaeLyn loves her family and hometown.
However, as the wedding preparations continue and the big day gets ever closer, a wildfire breaks out that threatens not only the wedding, but all RaeLyn and her family hold dear. Will they be able to get the fire out in time, and what is the cause behind it?
Lots of questions to answer as the series wraps up with a happily ever after for RaeLyn and Mason, and for the whole family and town. I enjoyed these cozy mysteries, the small town bond, and the hilarity of the family dynamics.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
MISTLETOE AND MAYHEM: RED TRUCK MYSTERIES VOL 3 by Janice Thompson
RaeLyn has her own ideas of what her wedding to Mason, in Mabank, Texas should look like. She wants her little red truck there (it's not running right now). She wants all of their friends and family to attend (an outside wedding in the winter).
Nature doesn't always cooperate with the best laid plans. A wildfire erupts nearby, sending the family, into a tizzy. RaeLyn and Mason are determined to find out what is going on.
This is a lovely mystery about family, adventures, and forgiveness. It is uplifting.
Highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of #mistletoeandmayhem #redtruckmysteriesseries from #BarbourFiction @BarbourFiction @BarbourPublishing #BarbourPublishing #JaniceThompson I was not obligated to post a review.
In this installment of the Red Truck Mysteries, RaeLyn is preparing for her outdoor wedding in December when the weather threatens her idea of her perfect wedding. As nature decides to not cooperate, a wildfire breaks out nearby threatening her family farm. Was it merely a wildfire or was it purposefully set? RaeLyn and Mason investigate the wildfire while tying up loose ends before their wedding.
This book is a fun seasonal read. It is in the same vein of Christian fiction with a small cozy mystery that isn't overly suspenseful. What I loved most was the family dynamics presented within this book along with the message of hope. The wedding was the icing on the cake. I see myself rereading this when the weather grows colder. If you are a fan of faith based mysteries, you will enjoy this book.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC. This review is voluntary and all thoughts are my own.
This is an enjoyable addition to a fun series. The focus by far is on RaeLyn's wedding but Thompson has included some suspense and mystery with a raging prairie fire. That introduces a minor theme of trusting God in the face of possible tragedy. There are also the feel good family celebrations around Christmas. The emphasis is on the wedding happening shortly after Christmas. And what a wedding it is! Thompson has done a good job describing the touching outdoor setting and the wonderful actions friends and family take to make it a perfect celebration, right down to the sunset glow. This is a good novel for readers who like a touching one centering on family and friends and celebrations.
This novel is part of The Little Red Truck Mystery series and while it reads well on its own, reading the earlier books will help to experience the full impact of this one.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
What could possibly go wrong? I mean, Raelyn is getting married in a week and it’s all planned out and on a spreadsheet. This is the third and final book in the little red truck mysteries and I’m so sad to see them end. The Hadley family in Mabank, Texas just seems like a part of my life. There have been times when I’ve been reading and looked up and realized I’m in my own living room and not in Mabank. But several things have definitely gone wrong, the least of which is a blazing fire that puts the Hadley Ranch in jeopardy. But that’s where Raelyn and Mason’s wedding is to take place! There’s a mystery to be solved about who or what started the fire. Will the wedding take place as Raelyn has always dreamed since she was seven years old or will the venue have to be changed? What a wonderful, heartwarming story that had me on edge at times. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.
"Mistletoe and Mayhem" (The Little Red Truck Mysteries: Book Three) by Janice Thompson is the third book in the series. There is a little mystery involving a fire, but the main focus is on the wedding taking place. I was able to figure out the fire setter right away. I do like the characters in the book, but the mom seemed like she was a little over the top are not wanting her kids to fly the nest. This is a fun series to read and follow. As I've already stated this is the 3rd book so I recommend starting at the beginning to get the whole story but if you don't read the other two, I think you could still enjoy this as a standalone but again I have to ask why would you want to read one book and not the whole series. The wedding descriptions were Absolutely wonderful. Looking forward to reading the next book if there is one.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
Another fun story set in Mabank, Texas, with RaeLyn Hadley and her family, who face a series of misadventures as her wedding day approaches. Of course, there are her fiancé, Mason, and all her friends too, making this a cast of delightful characters who have plenty going on. The novel can stand alone as a satisfying drama, but the previous books in the series lead up to this climactic moment. The author throws in twists and some humor, along with plenty of heart and hope for the future. You can’t help but root for everything to turn out well for everyone involved. The engaging tale hooks you and keeps you wanting more. It’s sad that it includes women who had terrible first husbands and remarry, which I don’t believe is biblical because marriage is a sacred covenant in God’s eyes and not breakable by humans. RaeLyn and Mason did things right, which offers a good model for readers. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Mistletoe and Mayhem is book 3 in the Little Red Truck Mysteries and is best enjoyed if you have read the earlier books in the series.
It's a week out from Christmas and Raelyn & Mason's wedding. There is lots of focus on the wedding and the pressure to get it all perfect, along with weather worries and a fire that came really close to destroying it all. Raelyn is a bit of an ameteur sleuth so starts asking questions about how the fire started which adds a side story as time marches onwards towards the wedding. I really enjoyed the united family, close knit friends and lovely small town community that came throughout the story.
This is a comfortable and easy afternoon read. I would have enjoyed more focus on the mystery rather than the wedding but other than that it is a sweet holiday read.
A heartwarming cozy mystery, at Christmastime that finds Mason and RaeLyn working out the final details to walk down the aisle, while her parents are getting used to the idea of an emptying nest.
Probably my favorite of the series so far, with a satisfying story arc great characters and a warm reunion of familiar faces. I loved how this book had more of her parents, and a lot of themes of family and embracing the positive changes. Engaging mystery, with an engaging heartwarming feel. I loved the strong themes of faith and family throughout, especially at Christmastime.
Satisfying read, and it was so wonderful to see characters that I have watched fall in love and come to care for finally tie the knot. Engaging plot, amazing characters. Excellent read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
"Mistletoe and Mayhem (The Little Red Truck Mysteries )" by Janice Thompson is more Cozy Christian Romance than Cozy Mystery. RaeLyn and Mason are soon to be married, just a couple days after Christmas. However, a wildfire threatens RaeLyn's family farm just before. That could threaten the wedding planning as well.
The mystery part took all of maybe a 16th of the story. RaeLyn barely interviewed anyone and for sure really didn't investigate. She just had a couple of interviews to make her newspaper article. It didn't even wrap it up actually confirming who the culprit(s) were. There was a heavy implication of who the culprit(s) was but no confirmation or culprit monologging.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This series has been amazing! I love these cozy mysteries. They are attention grabbing without the intense suspense. RaeLyn and Mason are relatable characters who you feel you could be best friends with throughout the story. I could not put this book down, and when I did I kept wondering what was going to happen next. Did someone purposely set the fire? If so, who? And Why?! I highly recommend this book, and if you haven’t read the first two those are amazing as well!
**I received a copy of this book as part of the CelebrateLit blog team. I was not required to write a positive review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is part of a series. If you choose to read the series, go in order. But...I, personally, think each book is great as a stand alone. I love the beloved old red truck and its part in this story! Raelyn and Mason's wedding is drawing near. They're having their wedding on the Hadley Ranch and suddenly a wild fire is headed towards it! No way will they allow the fire to destroy Raelyn's home and where she's planning her wedding to take place. Then, it begins to appear that just maybe that terrible fire was no accident. This was just a sweet Christian fiction story that I loved. Oh, and let's not forget Aunt Bessie! Such a wonderful character!
Mistletoe and Mayhem by Janice Thompson completes the Red Truck Mysteries Trilogy. What a great finish it is too with a few days from Christmas and Raelyn wedding to Mason. Still there are troubles and problems with a wildfire that has been burning with it now heading in the direction of Hadley’s land. Fun of family, community, hope and Christian inspiration as all work to stop the wildfire while also finding the cause of it. A mystery within a story of wonderful characters in a place where you would love to live and become part of it. A satisfying conclusion to this trilogy.
With less than a week before Christmas and RaeLyn and Mason’s wedding on Hadley ranch, a fast moving wild fire is spreading. RaeLyn wants to know who started the fire and why? As they rush to evacuate, will RaeLyn be able to have the wedding of her dreams? While the book concentrated on the prep for the wedding, the mystery side was a little disappointing. I love fall and holiday cozies which this was but it needed just a little more mystery for me. I look forward to more in the series. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
I have enjoyed these mysteries with Tilly the red truck. I like the characters and I love how the community is like a family. I love how RaeLyn and Mason work together to solve the mystery. I also liked that we get to see RaeLyn and Mason get married since we have seen them fall in love in the previous books. I like these books and I think this author does a good job of writing a cozy mystery.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
