I've been fascinated by Mermaids since I saw the movie "Splash" back in 1984. I always thought they were sweet, magical creatures of the sea. This book shows that the positive and "fun" side of mermaids has only recently come about. Not only were mermaids considered bad luck, they could be mean and dangerous. I also didn't realize that people have believed in and talked about mermaids for, like, THOUSANDS of years!
