Integral to the band’s story since its founding, Sister Imperator is a representative of the Clergy, and has been shrouded in secrecy—until now. Discover her clandestine history and the disturbing events that led her to becoming the woman both loved and feared by so many, from her innocent beginnings in small-town New England to the force behind Ghost.
Created by Tobias Forge of Ghost, featuring writing by Corinna Bechko, art by Puste, colors by Thiago Rocha, letters by Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt, and covers by Mikael Eriksson.
As a huge fan of the band Ghost, I really wanted to love this story. While I would highly recommend it to hardcore fans of the music and lore, it is definitely not the best comic-book I have ever read. The overall continuity with the music-videos and existing lore are interconnected really well and are a treat to see visualized with more context (specifically referencing events from Dance Macabre, Kiss The Go-Goat, Mary on a Cross, and The Future is a Foreign Land), but the actual pacing and plot was a bit all over the place.
I know our titular Sister Imperator is an unreliable narrator, which excuses some of it, but it is does cause a bit of whiplash. It feels like literal panels of the comic are missing that would fill in necessary information and movement of the characters from page to page. Speaking of, there are always way too many characters, some written better than others, with their motivations getting kind of messy. For example, while Sister Imperator is a solid main character with a forward-moving arc, Papa Nihil is inconsistently written as either a loving partner or an un-loyal rockstar sleeping with other women; it is inconsistent and kind of head-scratching.
However, overall confusion and a looseness on lore/explanation is part of Ghost’s charm (not to mention, maybe the Swedish/European roots in the writing did not translate the best into an American-style graphic novel), so it does truly feel like Ghost in the best possible way. If you watch the way that something like Rite Here Right Now or the online chapters are shot/acted/paced, then this fits right in with those. For me, that makes it fun — but I cannot see that making sense for others unfamiliar with Ghost. Overall, as much as it hurts me to not give something with my favorite band’s logo on it an instant five stars, I would only strongly recommend to specifically Ghost super-fans… or just stick to the awesome music.
Well, it felt weird. It needed some beta readers. The story was sort of hard to follow, a little nonsensical, not in the overall, but from panel to panel. I'd be curious to know more about how this was put together, but I think it just needed another pass from someone who is good at smoothing out the edges between dialogue balloons.
i’ve been a diehard ghost fan for almost a decade at this point, and is a huge comfort to me. now, i thought the story was… good, but the page and panel layouts made for a bit of a confusing and almost difficult read. the story itself is fine, i love sister imperator as a character quite a bit, but i felt as if the whole … satanic church that is at the center of ghost wasn’t ever really expanded upon. like yeah she formed it in 1969 but i really wish there was more detail into it, like obviously she was scorned by christianity but we are given no real look into any satanic religious views. overall though it was a fun read, but i really also wasnt fond of the inconsistency in the artwork- sisters hair especially always looked awkward

I was curious to see if they'd clarify some of the deeper lore aspects of Ghost, in this comic, but they've stayed clear of too-definitive-answers. It was an alright read, aimed for Ghost fans, disjointed to newcomers.
Not much about the origin of The Clergy is explained : the comic seems to let on that Sister Imperator was the founder of the Ghost band, but where does the Clergy fits in? In the web series, Papa Nihil say his father and his father's father, and his father's father's father (etc.) were Papa before him, so then why would Sister Imperator be the one to introduce him to this philosophy?
Overall, just a fun read about Sister Imperator being cool and tortured.
I liked the general vibe and art of this comic, but feel confused about the story and how it relates to the lore. Sister Imperator is interesting and I do enjoy her character and most of her story. But it kind of left me with more questions rather than answering them. The comic talks about the band and its formation but doesn't talk about how the Clergy comes into it all. And I also wonder how the twins came to be separated and grow up apart? It seems like Sister didn't know/didn't care? I don't know. I've heard rumors of another comic so I'm interested to see what might happen in it. I do recommend this for fans of Ghost. I enjoyed my time reading it.
Un must para el universo de la banda. Si eres fan, merece la pena por conocer un poco más del lore. Si no eres fan, sigue mereciendo la pena por el estilo de dibujo y la historia que encontramos dentro.
I am a huge Ghost fan so this was an interesting read. This wasn't the best thing I've read but I like the lore and it was well written. I recommend it if you're a big Ghost fan, otherwise you might want to read something else.
sister imperator is the comic ever. one million stars. without flaw even. not only a ghost abortion comic but also a circus comic? beautiful. show stopping. tobias forge is the mind of the century.
3.5 Stars ---------------- I thought I would just be getting a short backstory in comic form for Sister Imperator, but this blew my expectations out of the water.
It’s not just more lore for fans, it’s a damn good story with great messaging and an interesting plot. A reader who knows nothing about Ghost could pick this up and be totally immersed.
Please, even if you don’t know anything about Ghost, pick this up and give it a chance. I love Sister even more now and her story pulls at my heartstrings.
And if you do love Ghost and know all of the lore, this is so cool! Getting to finally learn more about Sister Imperator is incredibly satisfying as a long-time fan.
