Abi has met her ultimate bully. Will she be brave enough to rise to the challenge?
Determined to escape the ghosts of her past, Abi Benson jumps at the chance to skip town when she is offered a ghostwriting position at a prestigious digital marketing firm in the Big City.

When she discovers she’ll be writing for a dream client just two weeks into the job, the opportunity seems almost too good to be true. And when her assigned editor, Philip Baker, informs her of the unfortunate case of mistaken identity that disqualifies her from the running, it turns out that it is.

Desperate to prove herself, Abi strikes up a deal that her broody, enigmatic editor can’t resist. In exchange for keeping her secret about her true identity, she’ll accompany Phil to his brother’s wedding in order to charm his difficult father—who happens to be more distraught over Phil’s recent breakup than he is.

As the guilt over her lie catches up with her, Abi finds comfort in the most unexpected her grumpy editor’s surprisingly tender embrace—especially when an assault flips her world upside down and prevents her from revealing the secret she so desperately wants to confess.

Now, hundreds of miles from home and feeling even more distant from God, Abi must summon the courage to face both her fears and her past head on. But will Phil and Abi’s romance survive the storm, or will their differing beliefs extinguish their fragile flame forever?

If I had the power to rate this book infinity I would have and no one is stopping me so I would shamelessly rate this an ♾️ star
...
This is an christian romance novel ..and tbh I am not a Christian so for me it was difficult to catch up with the phrase and understand the author's word for God but that doesn't stop me from loving this piece...
The background revolves around christianity and believing in the faith of God , the author highlighted so deeply the context of fate and destiny that made me awestruck...!!✨
It had everything I would have imagined and this feels like a home to me now..!! Every scene every scenario depicted , it feels like the author has invaded my privacy of imagination and taken all the silly dreams I would imagine with my faceless fiction boyfriend.!!🥹🫠🫣.
In my reading career I never found a novel as perfect and cute as this ..!!!
The poetry jolted were so amazing and ...Oh yess..!! When Philip baker (MMC) calls her (abi benson -FMC) by her nickname he especially gave .!! I would just melt down like ice in the sun.!!😫🫶🏻..
The story has me crying at one point...but the author decided to give a happy ending !! Or less I would have created my own happy ending because I felt so close to the characters that they deserved every happiness..!!

Great Faith Based Romance!

Review:
A cute and heartfelt faith based romance that I very much enjoyed! I found the characters to be so relatable and genuine- even in their hot mess awkward moments (because don’t we all have those moments sometimes?). I connected with both of our MC’s on very personal levels for very personal reasons. Their story explores so many different unique avenues. Workplace drama. Overcoming fear and past hurts and trauma. Struggles with faith and fully trusting God after unexpected heartache. Wondering if God punishes people for their mistakes. And a true redemption story that warmed my heart and filled it to overflowing. Abi and Phil are the real deal and I love how this book captured their unfolding romance and love story so beautifully, and also how the heart and love of Jesus was so perfectly woven in. With wit and humor sprinkled in, this was the perfect cozy read that I needed to end my April reading on a high note. 5/5 star

5/5 ⭐️ My Grump Editor by Rachel Chamberlayne

Y’ALL! If Emily Henry wrote Christian Contemporary Romance it would be THIS 😍

I absolutely loveddddd this book. I started binging it hard and fast and when I realized it was almost over I had to slow down so I could savor it 😂

the worst part of the whole book? The fact that this is a debut & there’s no more books by Rachel for me to binge next 😭 (I’m eagerly waiting for MORE BOOKS from this author!)

This is the sweetest, least cringey Christian romcom I’ve ever read and I am SO here for it. I loved watching the characters wrestle real questions and struggle with their convictions in real time.

This is a book I could gush about. Abi & Phil are my current Roman Empire 😭🤍✨

I was privileged to receive a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review 🤍

When I say this book was made for me I mean it was MADE FOR ME!

I was thinking about reading a Christian romance book right before this one showed up on my Instagram. I couldn't have asked for a better Christian Romance to start out with.

I related so much with Phil & Abi. I could see myself in both of them. This story was incredible and I never wanted to put it down.

I seriously enjoyed this so much! I cannot believe this is her debut novel!

Thank you so Rachel Chamberlayne for this ARC!

What a beautiful debut this was! Phil and Abi drew me in from their first awkward introduction. They were both imperfect characters, but it was that imperfection that made them more relatable and drew me further into their lives and story. They had a really sweet chemistry between them, and I loved that she brought out a less grumpy side to him. Fake dating and grumpy/sunshine are some of my favorites, and this one definitely felt like a unique take on both... and I adored it. As much as I loved the romance though, more than anything I loved how this story truly pointed to God. Phil isn't a Christian at the start of the story, and seeing his growth as the story went on was really beautiful. Abi, though a Christian, still had her own struggles and ones that I think are going to resonate with many readers. Their story wasn't always an easy, lighthearted one. I loved that the author wasn't afraid to take on heavier topics like sexual abuse, but again pointing to God's love through it all. I won't give too much away, but the topic was handled with grace, and there was one conversation in the story in particular that I think it something that so many Christian women need a reminder of as well. If you love workplace romances and stories with a heavy emphasis on faith, this is certainly one not to be missed. I look forward to seeing what the author does next.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

I just want to start by saying how much I love this book. Ahhh… I just love it!

The storyline of Abi stepping into her new job as a writer and Phil being her grumpy editor—everything that unfolds after they meet—is so well written. I adore how the characters are portrayed; Phil and Abi are just so sweet. I miss them already!

I’m amazed at how Rachel managed to put this story together so beautifully. While it does touch on some tougher subjects, that only makes the story feel more real. And the way elements of faith are woven throughout? Absolutely perfect. It adds so much depth and meaning, making this a definite 5-star read for me!

Where do I even begin? I don't typically read in the romance genre. Romance as a subplot is more my speed, but I loved this book. Just the right amount of sizzle and steam, with no spice, this story had me blushing with delight. I loved the humor, the banter, the chemistry. Phil and Abi are living in my head rent free. Some people might think Christian romance is boring or cheesy. This is anything but.

I loved Phil as an MMC. A man who respects a woman and wants to earn her trust? Yes, please. And yet, he is a totally realistic, human man who isn't perfect and makes the story feel so real and relatable. He was written in such a balanced way, and I loved the way his character changed and grew throughout the story.

Now, let me talk about Abi. I don't know if I've ever read about a character that made me feel so SEEN. From her inability to walk in heels, to the emotions she wrestles with in the wake of trauma, Abi brought such life to this story. Even now, I want to weep thinking about how healing her story was for me. I loved her quiet strength and hidden courage. I loved the way those things came out as the story went on.

Rich with biblical truth and the gospel, this isn't just a fun, sizzling, romantic story. It's about the greatest love story of all time. It truly is a love letter to the broken, bullied, hurting souls who need stories like this. Stories that don't shy away from the uncomfortable reality that so many women face. Stories that make those women feel seen, loved, wanted. I can wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful novel. A fantastic debut!

My Grumpy Editor 🖍️💜

You know what I can believe happened? That I got one of my first migraines and still binge read this book in less than 48 hours.

Now you all get to experience the book I have been raving about for a YEAR.

Abi is absolutely adorable and also simultaneously one of the strongest fictional women I’ve ever met. Phil is complicated in all the right ways and loves chocolate chip cookies even more than I do. The office culture is so fun, the blend of living in the world and of it is so realistic, and the romance, dialogue, and banter are SO witty and SO cute and SO swoony.

I’d also be remiss to not mention that Rachel Chamberlayne’s portrayal of SA and everything that comes with it made me feel more seen than any other piece of media and I will recommend it to every single person I know who goes through something similar.

This book is deep, and heartfelt, and real, and raw, and sweet, and all the good things!

I’ve read this book twice and it just gets better and better every time. Now that I have a physical copy, I am tempted to abandon my TBR just to read it again!

A nerdy love story where two introverts bond over books, humor meets heart, and faith leads to redemption. The kind of love that makes your toes curl—and makes you believe your match is out there!

My Grumpy Editor is a heartwarming Christian romance where two book-loving introverts find love in the most unexpected way. This story beautifully weaves faith, humor, and love—and trust me, the humor had me laughing out loud more times than I can count!

I loved how the writing balanced faith, redemption, humor, and PTSD so seamlessly. I’d definitely call it a faith-filled, swoon-worthy romance. As someone who’s often mistaken for being aloof (when really, I’m just an ambivert who sometimes gets shy), I related so much to the MMC’s journey—especially how he found God for himself.

A little secret between us: You might want to read this with a cup of coffee… but nothing spicy—you’ll be choking on laughter!

I’d better stop here—NO SPOILERS, I promise! Hehe.

This was such a cute romance story! I didn't love the first chapter. It just took me a minute to get into it but I'm so glad I continued through. The story was full of life lessons, banter, and so much more. Phil and Abi were such the perfect couple. They reminded me so much of one of my favorite romance novels, A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade. I will definitely be snagging a physical copy for my shelves.

I got the great opportunity to recieve an ARC and wow. It was such a good read and i was very eager to finish it. Rachel is a lovely writer and story teller. I really felt like I was in the minds of the main characters, and even some of the supporting ones.

The story is both etertaining and points you to the Lord Jesus, which is my favorite type of content. I absolutely love romcoms and this book beautiful brings these themes together. It is clean romance (I have read cleaner, but I think this definitely still falls under clean!). Apart from just the romance story line, this book will make you smile, be happy for and have empathy for various characters as if you're seeing your close friends going through highs and lows.

I found Rachel's writing style to be extremely descriptive which may be a bit much for some readers, especially when it comes to certain topics. Even with that, I believe this is a book that so many will enjoy and appreciate.

A very big well done and congratulations to Rachel, God bless her for this masterpiece. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

I read an ARC of this book and wow wow wow.

I have read closed door romances with minimal faith themes sprinkled throughout, but this is my first one where the MCs' faith were a bigger component to the story. I'm calling it right now: it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this book and consumed it within a 24-hour period because I was engrossed in the story. I found Abi and Phil both to be relatable characters, and there were parts of both of them that resonated with me deeply. Abi was running from her past. Phil was shaky in his faith. Their story was so incredibly moving and sweet. I'm still reeling from this one (in the best way possible)!

I can't wait to see what Rachel Chamberlayne comes out with next!

I had the awesome privilege of beta reading this delightful book.

I don’t have words as elegant as Phil or Abi would use, but I can sum it up using terms Abi would be familiar with:

Ingredients:
1 new job in the big city
2 loving parents
1 homeschooled background
1 mixed up identity
1 grumpy boss
1 support coworker
1 antagonistic coworker
1 horrid boss
Loads of tension
A bag of sizzling kisses
A hefty scoop of God’s grace

Directions:
Spill coffee on first day of work, while making a mad dash for a bathroom, while also trying not to be late to work.
Embark on an adventure of trying to be the person your employer thought they hired when someone mixed up the names on the files.
Rely on God as you deal with a crotchety boss, another boss with grabby hands, along with being homesick and wondering if this is the right path for you.

I dare say Abi wouldn’t attempt that recipe if she saw the ingredient list. But she doesn’t see the product, not unless she makes the recipe. And the product is beautiful - a soul coming to Christ, forgiveness, growth, and love!

Thank you so much, Rachel, for trusting me to be a beta reader!

Besties. You need to read this book. Simple as that. The author did an amazing job with this debut of hers. Yeah, DEBUT. I laughed, snorted, giggled, squeaked, cried and danced around my room reading this book! I’ll say it again, you HAVE to read this book. The puns, the banter, the angst and longing. The MMC’s SMOLDERING looks. Five stars!!!

Jesus and His love for us is so beautifully woven into this story. The entire thing was like a warm hug. Especially the part where the author’s words helped heal a part of my heart that I’ve been struggling with lately.

Please besties, please read her book! It’s funny, endearing, powerful and to top it off, the chemistry and romance between these two is OFF THE CHARTS. 🎆

Wait… this was a debut novel?! I’m seriously so impressed. From the first chapter to the last, this book took me on such a meaningful journey—I loved every part of it. The author did such an amazing job weaving in biblical truths without it feeling forced, and it added so much depth to the story.

I especially appreciated how she handled the MMC’s struggle with his faith. The way scripture was included felt so natural and honest—it really hit home. Even though the book touched on some heavier topics, it never felt too heavy or depressing. It was just the right mix of real and hopeful.

I’ll definitely be reading anything this author writes in the future. If this is how she starts, I can’t wait to see what’s next!

I'm very lucky to have gotten an arc copy of this!

Genuinely, this was such an incredible book. It mixed typical modern romance with biblical themes and God so perfectly. Everything about Abi I related to so deeply, you can tell God had a hand in writing this.

The writing was incredible, the charater development was some of the best I've read in a while. The setting was adorable, and watching what Abi and Phil went through was genuinely so incredible.

I don't have much more to say that is spoiler free🤷🏼‍♀️💐

Definitely a five star read

This book had me kicking my feet and smiling so much! The banter was incredible- for all the bookish girlies, he threatened to dog ear every page! The horror, right?

But seriously, definitely read this book if you are looking for a Christian romance book that has real life workplace struggles. I couldn’t put it down, and I finished it in a day (ok ok I guess it was 2 days because I finished it past midnight lol).

Oh. My. Goodness. If you love enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, and workplace romance, then let me introduce you to your next obsession—My Grumpy Editor!

Abi Benson is on the run—not literally, but emotionally—from her past. A new job as a ghostwriter in the Big City seems like the perfect escape, until a tiny case of mistaken identity nearly ruins everything. Enter Philip Baker, her assigned editor, aka the grumpiest (and most intriguing) man alive. Desperate to prove herself, Abi makes him an offer he can’t refuse: she’ll help him survive his brother’s wedding (and his father’s expectations) if he keeps her secret.

Cue fake dating shenanigans, forced proximity, and the slowest, most delicious burn ever. But just when things are starting to get too real, an unexpected trauma shakes Abi’s world—and suddenly, she’s not just fighting for her job, but for her faith, her healing, and a love she never saw coming.

What I Loved:
The banter! Abi and Phil’s sharp, witty exchanges? Absolute perfection. I lived for every interaction.
The tension! Oh, the pining. The way Phil is so reluctant, yet so completely gone for her? I melted.
The romance! That quote where Phil basically claims her for life? I had to physically put the book down and scream.
The faith journey! This isn’t just a love story—it’s about grace, healing, and finding God in the broken places.
Favorite Quotes:
"You and me? We are as exclusive as it gets."—PHIL, sir, this is a Christian romance, why was I blushing so hard?
"There’s a dedication. Only it’s not a dedication at all. It’s a question."—And just like that, my heart stopped.

This book had me squealing, giggling, swooning, and clutching my heart in equal measure. The chemistry? Immaculate. The emotional depth? Gut-wrenching in the best way. Rachel Chamberlayne has officially cemented herself as a must-read Christian romance author.

If you love sweet but sizzling romance, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, and faith-filled storytelling, My Grumpy Editor is the book for you! Now excuse me while I go reread my favorite parts for the hundredth time.

Phil + Abi
The love story in this book was truly something special. I couldn’t put this one down. I especially loved how he called her “darling” and “Abi Lou”. I will be thinking about these two for a long time!

Abi is running from past hurts. She gets a new job far away from home and meets grumpy Phil. It is not a good meeting but instead of Abi being mean to him she decides to pray for him.
Phil is in a bad place & the last thing he expected was introvert, scared of everything Abi to shake up his life.
I loved this book. Phil’s wrestle with faith - felt so real. He comes to the place in his life where he realizes his need for a Savior. No one made the decision for him. It was personal.
Abi feels like she is being punished for her sins & although there are certainly consequences for our sins - it is shown here that we are all sinners who fall short & Christ doesn’t abandon us. We are also reminded that we are not responsible for other people’s sins.
Rachel doesn’t shy away from clearly presenting The gospel in this one. I loved seeing Christ’s death on the cross talked about. She did an excellent job of showing grace and forgiveness. Abi and her family bond was really special. She also never missed an opportunity to point Phil to Christ and I appreciated how although Phil didn’t fully understand it all he was still respectful of Abi’s boundaries. This story showed our human desires (without being sexually explicit) but how with Christ we can overcome temptation. Rachel is a new to me Author and I am very much looking forward to her next book!

Quote -
Abi is a yellow daffodil poking through the frozen soil of my hibernating heart, pointing in the direction of the Son.

Content -

relationship with ex girlfriend

Where do I even begin? This book had me swooning, sighing, and grinning from ear to ear. 😍

The story kicks off with a classic meet-hate at work, and from that moment, I couldn’t put it down. The tension, the chemistry, the slow burn… it was a sweet ride all the way through.

Phil, the grumpy boss? Yeah, he had the whole “I’m great at my job but terrible with people” vibe going on. No one wanted to work with him. Enter Abi, with her kindness and chocolate chip cookies, breaking down his walls one sweet gesture at a time. (Seriously , the gurl is too nice). Watching his transformation from grumpy boss to jealous, lovesick boyfriend was everything. 😍 Seriously, Phil Baker almost qualifies as the ultimate book boyfriend—protective, a good cook, dedicated, and completely smitten with Abi. His only flaw? He’s not the biggest fan of talking about God or anything God, for that matter… and if you ask me, that’s a major flaw. 👀

Abi, our FMC, is a nice person. She’s juggling so many struggles—bullying, low self-esteem, insecurities—and stepping out of her comfort zone to take a job in a new city. She’s brave, but she can’t always see it. I loved how the author showed Abi’s vulnerability and growth, especially in how she navigated her faith. Eventually, Abi had to make some hard decisions as a Christian, and I loved how the book handled that. Standing up for your faith, no matter the consequences is something we need reminding of as Christians.

The ending? It was satisfying to some degree. I did have one small peeve I shared with the author (can't spoil it, sorry 😁). She explained it, but I still wish it had gone differently.

Overall, a beautiful, heartwarming read that I’d recommend!

The first thing that attracted me to this book was the title and this was worth the read. I enjoyed Phil and Abi’s story, the gradual journey and growth of each of them as they dealt with their flaws. Abi’s sweet disposition was definitely what Phil needed to move past his pain. The impact Abi made not just to Phil but also to her colleagues and all who came in contact with her. Her strength and courage to admit her flaws and work through them is a strong example.
Phil's redemption and improved relationship with his father is heartwarming. I also enjoyed the relationship Abi had with her parents. That relationship was what help ground her when she faced challenges as she stepped out of her comfort zone.
I enjoyed the way the author interwove faith, redemption and hope in Christ in the daily lives of the characters and the fact that despite mistakes, God's love is ever sure. A book with deep life nuggets. Thank you for this awesome story. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

From the very first page I was hooked! I couldn't put it down and read it in 24 hours! I had every emotion with this incredible Christian romance novel. It brought me to tears, made me laugh out loud, and filled my soul with incredible messages of faith and trust in God!

Abi and Phil's story is one of faith, patience, redemption, and a whole lot of funny banter between the two of them! Abi yearns for her independence and finds herself with a mistaken identity at her new job and relies on Phil, her grumpy editor, to keep her secret. I loved Phil's grumpy demeanor and the reputation he has built so people leave him alone. Abi, though, breaks through his facade and starts chipping away at the walls he has put up around himself.

This story does include difficult topics, but the way the author included the hard reality of grief, sexual harassment/assault, and how trials in life can put our faith to the test was done so beautifully! ❤️

I could not get enough of this story! What a wonderful debut novel by Rachel! ❤️

My Grumpy Editor may have a playful title, but such a deep and moving story lies within. It has all the things you want in a romance novel (cozy, funny, adventurous, and a little cheesy (FMC is homeschooled lol)) and also went beyond my expectations. As a Christian fiction novel, it incorporates Scripture and spiritual themes, but Rachel wove the gospel into Phil and Abi's character arcs in a way that I think will resonate so well with readers. It shows that the gospel addresses our deepest questions, insecurities, and hardships, which is encouraging to both Christians and those seeking spiritual meaning alike.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and savored in the experience! All the little sensory details really immersed me in the story. Need to go make coffee and chocolate chip cookies ASAP.

Thank you to Rachel for the ARC! I so look forward to reading your future novels!

I am a fantasy reader normally but wanted something less intense than my usual soul crushing, emotionally damaging novels. While I am growing exhausted of the dual POV, I must say that Rachel Chamberlayne absolutely NAILED IT. Most dual POVs are heavy on the FMC side and I'm usually wondering why it wasn't all written in her perspective in the first place; HOWEVER, I enjoyed Phil's POV the most in this book and I appreciated that you occasionally got to see his POV back-to-back.

The story itself was amazing, and I fell in love with Abi and her kind, gentle spirit. I resonated with Phil the most because I lean toward being a grumpy, cynical menace so it's nice to see that personality type soften and learn to be vulnerable.

I HIGHLY recommend this book - seriously - you are missing out if you don't read this.

It’s hard to believe this is Rachel’s debut novel!

I loved how she doesn’t shy away from writing about real, sensitive topics in the book. And I love how through the whole book, the Gospel message is so strong; the faith elements of this book were amazing.

I loved how Phil and Abi loved each other; he was totally gone for her 🙂. I also really appreciated his journey to come to faith; it felt realistic. The pacing of the romance in this book made it so enjoyable to read and I loved seeing how they let each other into their lives. The fact there was more to the plot than just the romance, and that I wasn’t sure what their HEA would look like, kept me hooked!

Loved her writing style and ooking forward to Rachel’s next book!
