When she agreed to spend her last summer before college at her cousins’ house in Ireland, Charli Moretti never expected to meet anyone like Rhys Doyle. He was the first boy to ever make her heart flutter, and though their lives followed different paths after that fateful summer, she always remembered him as her first everything.
Sixteen years later, after a tumultuous divorce from her abusive husband, Charli is returning to Ireland a shell of the woman she once was. Life has tried to break her many times over, and now all she wants is a fresh start and an even keel. She’ll be working as an accountant at her uncle’s hotel, but what she doesn’t know is that Rhys Doyle works there, too. He’s the head of security, in fact, and he’s no longer the teenage boy she once knew.
With the rumours flying around that he and his fiancée just broke off their engagement, Charli decides it’s best to give Rhys his space. She knows personally how hard it can be when a relationship ends. The problem is, she can’t seem to stop running into him, and the more she gets to know the man he’s become the more those old feelings start to return.
Quiet Longing is a standalone contemporary romance and is book #2 in L.H. Cosway’s Quiet Love Series
L.H. Cosway lives in Ireland. Her inspiration to write comes from music. Her favourite things in life include writing stories, food, musical comedy, and of course, books. She thinks that imperfect people are the most interesting kind. They tell the best stories.
As much as I loved the first book in this series, I loved this one even more. Quiet Longing follows Charli, an American teenager spending the summer in Ireland with her family, and Rhys, Charli’s cousin’s best friend (as well as Shay from the first book’s cousin). Charli and Rhys spend an unforgettable summer together before she starts college, and that is the first half of the book (which was my favorite half). The second half takes place 16 years later after Charli’s divorce and move to Ireland.
Rhys works for Charli’s uncle, and Charli starts a new job at that hotel as well. They start off as friends, but Charli is skittish now. Her life has changed since she last saw Rhys, and she has changed. She’s not as lighthearted and confident as she used to be. But Rhys still sees that girl he loves underneath it all. I loved how much these two loved each other in such a sweet and quiet way. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!

This was my first book by LH, and I was very moved by it. She touched on a LOT of trigger subjects and did it with such finesse. I really liked both of our MCs. We have Charli who when we first meet her is strong and confident and carefree. Then we have Rhys who has never been the one getting the girls attention and has frankly had a HARD life so far. The thing I appreciated and enjoyed reading about was fast forwarding 16 years later and we have the roles reversed. Charli has now been through it. She is timid and self conscious while Rhys is more settled and confident. The connection these two had in both parts of this book was infectious. I felt like I was in the room with them and could feel their energy. My heart broke for them at the end of the first part- having to step away not because of feelings but distance. Watching them rekindle their romance, it was like no time had passed. Both of these characters were strong and fierce in their own way. I was rooting for them to make it the whole way through.
Charli is in Ireland for the summer before she heads to college. She has no expectations other than to have a good time. So when she finds herself crushing on her cousin's BF, Rhys, she tries to convince herself now is not the time. But she can't ignore how her body reacts around him or how he makes her feel. They flirt and dance around each other until they can't fight it anymore. They are each other's firsts and so much more. It is impossible to think at the end of the summer they will go their separate ways, but this is what happens. Charli is heartbroken when a few months go by and Rhys is now radio silent. Fast forward 16 years and Charli finds herself back in Ireland. It seems to be a place of awakening and healing for her. She is on the other side of an abusive marriage and is trying to find her footing. She does not expect to see Rhys NOR does she expect her body to have the same reaction as before when they were younger. She feels safe with him. She feels things she hasn't felt in a long time. She starts to realize how important he is to her and that he might be able to get her over a few things she has been struggling with. She decides she can't fight it anymore and propositions him for a situation that is beneficial to both of them. What she doesn't think about is her heart? Is she ready for something like this? Will she ever be? Because even though her heart knows it belongs to Rhys, her mind is fighting her on it.
Rhys is going through it at 19. His dad is abusive towards him and his mom and FINALLY she makes the decision to leave him. His safe haven is his BF's mansion. When said BF's cousin, Charli, comes to town from America he doesn't know what to do with himself. She actually pays attention to him. Not all of his friends who have always gotten the girls. No her eyes seem to find him in a crowded room. They are conveying things to him that he can't quite comprehend. So after dancing around each other and gathering some courage, they become each others firsts. He realizes too late how much he feels for Charli but wouldn't trade this time for anything. So when she leaves, he tries to stay in touch. But tragedy hits again and he withdraws. When he sees her again he sees she is engaged and so he decides to move on too. Fast forward 16 years, she is back. And he questions how he ever convinced himself that he loved someone else? It has ALWAYS been her. She is different though. Gone is the confident young woman replaced with a timid one who has been through it. Rhys recognizes the signs and decides he is going to help Charli. He is going to be whoever she needs him to be. He thinks she might leave him again at some point but it will be worth it right? He knows he wants her in his life forever. He is just waiting for her to catch up.
LH did a great job of helping me connect with these characters. I liked the pacing of the story and the side characters as well. I had already bought book 1 and definitely plan on reading that one soon. And LOVE the idea of Jonathan being our next MMC. I like that this book (and I'm assuming the others) are a harder look at love. It comes easy for these two but they had to work to get it back. Definitely recommend this one if you haven't picked it up yet!
Thank you to Grey's Promotions and LH for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Maybe I'll give this a chance later! I don't really know because second chance romance usually dont work for me. . .
Second chance :
- The first half of the book is about the MCs when they were teenagers / they lost their virginities to each other and loved each other but they couldn’t be together. When the mmc found out the fmc was engaged to someone else he decided to move on too.
- The second half... They meet again after 16 years apart. Both were with other people during the separation. The fmc divorced her abusive husband and the mmc broke up with his fiancee (another review said that the mmc thought he loved his ex but when he saw the fmc again, he questions how he ever convinced himself that he loved someone else? It has always been her).

It's safe to say.......I love love LOVE being in this world!
I was so excited to read Rhys story after loving Shay and Maggie in Quiet Types and, of course, getting to know Rhys! It did not disappoint or let me down in any way at all! If I could, I would give it more than 5 stars!
It's my ultimate favourite series and books of the year for sure!
I loved reading (I didn't want it to end - taking my time to finish!) about Rhys and Charlie! They both suffered so much (my heart broke for them both) and their story. Their love was so touching. Really moving. It was a great read and the layout of the past of them as teenagers, the best summer, when they met and then sixteen years later was perfect of the past and present and the perfect epilogue!
I can't recommend this series enough!
I can't wait to read Jonathan's story in Quietly Yours!
✨Read if you like: second-chance romance, summer flings, protector heroes, wounded heroines, workplace romance.✨
📚 Charli Moretti never expected to meet someone like Rhys Doyle during a summer in Ireland when she was just a teen. Sixteen years later, after surviving a toxic marriage, she returns to the same place that once held the best memories of her life. Now an accountant at her uncle’s hotel, Charli is shocked to find out that Rhys, her first love, is working there too—as the head of security. With a broken engagement in his past, he’s no longer the carefree boy she once knew. Can they rekindle the flame after everything life has thrown at them?
👨👧 Charli is a beautifully complex heroine. She’s been through a lot and comes across as vulnerable but resilient, determined to rebuild her life. Rhys, on the other hand, is the strong, protective type—someone who’s also been shaped by life’s hardships but remains steadfast. The two of them have a rich history, and that adds an emotional depth to their interactions.
💞 Their romance feels like a slow burn, reigniting as they keep crossing paths at work. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their shared past adds layers to their rekindled connection. From stolen glances to deep conversations, Charli and Rhys’s love story is one of healing and finding strength in each other after years apart.
👧 The side characters, from Charli’s uncle to the staff at the hotel, help create a warm and sometimes humorous environment. They add heart to the story, rounding out Charli and Rhys’s world with moments of levity and support.
✍️ L.H. Cosway’s writing perfectly captures both the emotional intensity of the characters and the charming backdrop of small-town Ireland. The pacing feels just right, blending moments of introspection with swoon-worthy romance.
🌟 Quiet Longing is a heartfelt, second-chance romance that explores themes of healing, forgiveness, and rediscovering love after loss. This story was perfectly written and was just the right amount of everything you are looking for.
📲 **QOTD: Have you ever reconnected with someone from your past and felt those same old sparks fly?**👇
This was such a sweet second chance romance. I really loved the characters so much so that I needed to read books 1 and 3. Even though this is a series with interwoven characters and stories, I don't feel like I lost anything by starting with book 2. I want to read book 1, not because I feel like I am missing anything but rather because I want to spend more time in this world with these people.
“I love you, too. Fiercely. Passionately. I’ve been yours since we were kids, and I’ll continue being yours until we’re old and grey.”
Having adored Quiet Types, book one in the Quiet Love series and getting to meet Rhys, I was excited to read QUIET LONGING. Sadly, I didn't enjoy this one like I did the former and I think that had to do with having eighteen chapters set in the past. I understand it was to show how the leads meet, become friends and fall in love and what caused the separation but I found myself a little bored during those chapters and I feel it could have been cut down some to make the story flow better. It was also hard because I didn't feel a connection to either leads so when we get their backstory or see the struggles they endured I felt like an outsider who didn't have that emotional connection that I like in my stories.
I'm not giving up on this series though and hope book three has the same magic that book one did, fingers crossed!
After reading the first book, I was definitely interested in Rhys but I don't think I was quite ready for the innocent, sweet young man he was.
To be honest, the first part was a little too long for my liking...I wanted manly Rhys! And well, I'm not sure that's what we got.
Don't get me wrong, Rhys and Charli were great. I loved how they balanced each other out...AND the thoughtful, sweet, patient Rhys was all I could want and more. I guess I was just wanting a bit more jeuge....a more growly, intense Rhys if you will.
And next we have Jonathan to contend with. Not sure what to think of him...maybe he will be a little more growly. 😉
LH Cosway delights us once again with an extremely poignant and beautiful romance, as well as with her wonderful characters who will quickly capture your heart. If you're a fan of the author like me, you can't help but love this sweet and intense story, the kind of story she has the secret to. I love the way she shows the evolution of feelings, her protagonists who fall in love and make us fall in love with them at the same time. I immediately liked Charli and Rhys. I am at an age where I read less romances with teenage heroes, because my own adolescence seems far away, but I knew that with this author, I would have no problem entering into the story of these two very touching young people. The story is presented in two parts. I particularly liked the first one. Charli doesn't have a supermodel body, Rhys doesn't have a great set of abs, and yet they are immediately attracted to each other because they immediately see each other's beauty. A beauty not perfect by standards but perfect for them, because that's what's most important. As a result, Rhys isn't cocky, which I appreciated. They have friends, they party, but they both have a certain shyness. More Rhys than Charli. Charli is shy about her body but she doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, she is honest and intelligent. Rhys is slightly more reserved, which can be explained by his difficult life. Our hero made me shed a few tears. He is a lovely, selfless and courageous boy. Both have their own wounds but his are particularly deep and have lasted forever. I found him very realistic in his behavior both with Charli and with his family problems. He's just a boy who survives and does his best, and even though he already has this protective side in him, he's not a superhero, not in the sense that he wants to be. His plans to rebuild himself, to recover his self-esteem, to feel stronger, are completely understandable. Charli will bring him something new in his life: love, but not only that. Among handsome guys, she saw only him, and he needed such attention. He needed to be loved by a girl who gives him confidence but above all who understands him, with whom he can open up. Charli is more confident, but she found her soul mate in Rhys. Their relationship evolves smoothly, naturally. We know from the start of the reading that something will separate them, so I spent my time wondering what or who will separate them. LH Cosway added several supporting characters who could play this role, not to mention that their story has an end date from the start since Charli is only in Ireland for the summer. I found it very clever, my brain was constantly buzzing, asking questions. I don't know if it was intentional on her part, but it worked that way for me. The separation made me cry of course, yet it is logical. The second part takes place sixteen years later. Our protagonists had one life before the separation, and another after. Two very different lives, where the roles have been reversed, which is a very nice idea. Rhys found what he was looking for, he is stronger, more confident. Charli, on the other hand, has been through hell. She returns to Ireland to create a new, happier life, on good foundations, far from the source of her nightmares. She hasn't been broken, but she's not the same anymore. She moved me enormously. I admired her greatly for her courage. The author knows how to play with our emotions, she knows how to control them, which I also admire a lot. Charli's family is amazing. Every single one of them. She's lucky to have them, they helped her rebuild herself, even if Rhys was her main source of strength. She can always count on him and he is incredibly patient and generous. He agrees to be the tool of her healing without expecting anything in return. But Charli is stronger than she thinks and once again the roles are reversed. They are really made to understand each other. New secondary characters try to put obstacles in their way, their relationship evolves smoothly again. Although the feelings never went away. These two mirrored parts are ingenious. And of course, we smile at the happy ending. Charlie and Rhys so deserve their happy ending after everything they've been through and all these years separated from the love of their lives. The author offers us more than a story of summer fling or second chances. She shows us the impact of an encounter, the impact of sincere love, she offers us a story of resilience, of victories over suffering. I also really appreciate that her characters need to look for their strength within themselves, because we should not always rely on others to solve everything, it is important to know of our own value, to know how to defend ourselves. Self-esteem is important. Quiet Longing is a wonderful love story, with a wonderful writing and wonderful characters. I recommend it to you! Thank you LH Cosway for the ARC, thank you for your trust and your generosity.
I've come to appreciate second chance stories, especially when they are filled with so much longing and hope. Rhys and Charli's story is beautiful and heartbreaking as their lovely summer fling of firsts becomes a future that holds such pain and sorrow.
Rhys' childhood is riddled with shameful secrets that he keeps close to the vest until a beautiful, confident American blasts into his life. Her arrival is like a breath of fresh air in his tumultuous life. They become friends, confidantes, and lovers in a short time knowing they will be apart soon enough making their experience feel even more cherished. However, life rarely unfolds as planned, and time and circumstance pull Rhys and Charli apart, leading them down separate paths filled with unexpected hardships.
After sixteen years, Charli returns to Ireland to start over. Her transformation is notable from a young confident woman to a woman prone to panic attacks. She's been through hell and back and I admire her resilience and determination to rediscover herself. Rhys is a kind and thoughtful man who joined the French Foreign Legion to run from his past and become the man he thought he should be. Rhys is so loving and considerate and like a fine wine, he only gets better with age.
Rhys and Charli's connection is electric, igniting familiar feelings that time cannot erase. The bond they share is enhanced by the warmth of supportive friends and family, who add layers to the story, creating a lovely blend of belonging and camaraderie, enriching Rhys and Charli’s journey back to one another.
This memorable story is full of love, grief, healing, and finding strength in each other. It leaves a lasting impression with a beautiful plot and compelling characters. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Thank you to Ms. Cosway for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
This is the second book in this series, and this is Rhys and Charli’s story. Charli met Rhys when she was visiting family in Ireland for the summer, and he became her first everything, but their lives were heading in different directions. Now 16 Years later, Charli is divorced from a toxic marriage, and needing a fresh start, she heads for Ireland where she was her happiest, and becomes an accountant at her uncle’s hotel, only to find that Rhys also works there as head of security. Will these two be able to rekindle their past romance? This is a well written emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, humor, witty banter, engaging and relatable character, challenges, healing, second chances, workplace romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, unpredictable, and heartfelt addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
Quiet longing promised longing, but ended up delivering a flop instead. Heroine’s a doormat, the plot’s a yawn, and the romance? No yearning, no angst, just a hero thinking joining the military is the answer to everything. Hard pass.
Charli spent a summer when she was young with her relatives in Ireland where she met Rhys. Rhys had a horrible home life but did what he had to do. These two connected so perfectly.
Jump forward 16 years and Charli is back in Ireland putting her life back together after a horrible marriage. Rhys is working for her uncle in security now. I love how these two reconnected. I loved how these two found each other again. Beautifully written. Read It!
4.5/5 I read book 3 before this one because I didn't feel like reading a second chance romance but I'm glad I finally decided to read it because I loved it so much.
Rhys is such a perfect gentleman. I mean, he bought her dream house before it went to someone else, even when they weren't together (even when he's not a billionaire) JUST IN CASE. and he didn't say a thing about it.
"You never have to hide from me, Charli. I'll take you any way I can have you."
"For however long or however much you need, I'm yours to use how you see fit."
"I want you to lean on me. That's what I'm made for."
Such a beautiful, sensitive book! Charli and Rhys are absolutely delightful. We meet them 16 years earlier and get to know a confident, funny Charli and a shyer, but strong Rys, whose ambitions in life have been informed by his homeless. Both have huge hearts and their teenage love is one which is both intense and realistic. The sense of family is also strong, with them serving as both grounding and loving figures. When we meet them again 16 years later, much has changed, and this part of the books introduces those changes with honesty and compassion, which is also characteristic of these two fabulous souls. I absolutely devoured this lovely, well written second chance story. It is written with an underlining kindness, despite the experiences that Charli and Rhys have gone through in the intervening years. It is impossible not to love them wholeheartedly. LH Cosway writes books that always make me feel that I have entered a very special world. They have a sense of the unusual, and she creates characters who have such unique personalities. Absolutely fabulous 💖💖💖💖💖
Quiet Longing is the second book on the series and my new favourite! You can't help but fall in love with Charli and Rhys as you're swept along with their romance. The book is split between Charli and Rhys's second chance at love, and their initial summer romance when they were 16 - the amount of time dedicated to both time periods is perfect. I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It really is a beautifully written, must-read romance.
Book Name/Series: Quiet Longing (Quiet Love #2) Author: L.H. Cosway Standalone?: Can be read as a standalone, but includes characters from other books.
2 Stars
My Opinion: This was a two-part story. The first part is Charli and Rhys meeting as teenagers/young adults when Charli goes to Ireland to visit family for the summer. They’re immediately attracted to each other, and they begin spending quite a bit of time together as they get closer. However, when the summer ends, they go their separate ways. The second part of the story happens 16 years later, when Charli starts working at the same hotel that Rhys works at. Charli is freshly divorced from her abusive ex-husband, and Rhys has just broken up with his ex-fiancée. They again grow closer and start spending time together.
I had high hopes for this book after the reading the first one in the series, despite usually staying away from second chance romances. Unfortunately, this didn’t make me change my mind about the trope and I was a bit disappointed. I felt that it dragged on a bit in places, especially the first half, and I found that I regularly lost interest and had to force myself to pick the book back up to finish it. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the characters or the writing, I just felt apathetic about the story. I think one of the reasons for this is that I knew that there was going to be this 16 year separation and that they were both going to be with other people, so it wasn’t worth getting invested in their relationship in the first half of the book, but that unfortunately also meant I wasn’t that invested in their reunion in the second half. They did have some sweet moments together though and they made a cute couple in the end.
Hero: 4/5. Rhys (18/19? and 34/35?). I liked him. In the first half we see him struggle with trying to get his mother away from his abusive father and dealing with the aftermath of that. He was a little shy and insecure, but he eventually came out of his shell. He was very protective of his mother though, and later of Charli as well. In the second half he was surer of himself, and I really loved how patient and supportive he was of Charli and her issues. Heroine: 3/5. Charli (18 and 34). She was okay. In the first half she was a pretty confident and outgoing person, but after everything she went through with her abusive ex-husband, she became more withdrawn and struggled with PTSD in the second half. I wasn’t crazy about her though and I didn’t connect with her at all. I also really didn’t like that she got Rhys’s hopes up about being together again and then pumping the breaks and deciding she wasn’t ready for a relationship and then made him wait 7 months.
Quiet Longing is the second book in the Quiet Love series and like the first book, it is fantastic. It took one of my favorite tropes - second chance romance - and nailed it. Charli and Rhys's love story is beautifully emotive, and I was invested from the moment I met them. They meet when they are teenagers when Charli visits Dublin for the summer, staying with her aunt and uncle, hanging out with her cousins, and working at the hotel owned by her uncle. Rhys is good friends with her cousins and also works at the hotel so they end up spending time with each other. Neither have the money that her extended family does, and they can relate to each other in more ways then one. They fall into a passionate romance that ends when Charli goes back home to college.
After losing touch, Charli find herself back in Dublin to pick up the pieces of her life. It's been sixteen years and she doesn't expect to see Rhys, but when he arrives for dinner at her uncle's house, all the emotion from the past rushes back. However, Charli isn't in a position to start a new relationship and Rhys is fresh out of one of his own. Still, because she is the lead accountant at her uncles hotel, the same hotel where Rhys is head of security, they end up once again spending time together and what follows is a gorgeous second chance romance that has become one of my favorites.
The first love that grows between Charli and Rhys at teens is a frenzy of passion and new emotions. I felt their love grow and believed their feelings. Both are going through family things over that summer and I loved the support they provided for each other, especially Charli's support of Rhys as he was going through the awful things his mom and him were dealing with. It's crushing to see them separate at the end of the summer, and though I had hoped they would stay in contact with each other. It's sad when they don't and years go by.
Now, they are back in the same area and it's Charli that needs support. Charli is fresh out of an abusive marriage and is trying to get her life back. It's tragic to see the changes in Charli and I wanted desperately to see her transform back into her old self. It's a hard journey but Rhys is there every step of the way. The unconditional love and support Rhys gives her as they become friends again and then more is beautiful. The patience he has while she grows and learns how to live again is everything.
There is no doubt that these two still have amazing chemistry even after years apart. I loved seeing them reconnection through both their eyes. It's intense and once again passionate, but it's more than first love. Their love proves to be a forever love and I was along for the ride when they fall for the second time.
Overall, I loved loved loved this story. It's a wonderfully developed second chance romance that has left a mark on my heart. It's a fantastic addition to the Quiet Love series that is definitely becoming a favorite series. I fell in love first with Maggie and Shay from Quiet Types, and now I have fallen for Charli and Rhys. All of these characters are amazing and I cannot wait for the third book, Quietly Yours, featuring Jonathan, who we've seen in both books. I am intrigued with him and can't wait for him to find his love.

I’ve gotten behind on writing up reviews. I finished this book a while ago but am only doing the review now.
This book is told in two parts and is the story of Charli a young 17 years old from America who is spending the summer in Ireland with her cousins, two brothers and their sister and their family. Her cousins have a small group of friends and Rhys is one of them. This the sweet story of young love between them. While the family is quite well off, Rhys is a different story. He comes from a poorer backgrounds and also very dysfunctional. His father is a bully who beats both Rhys and his mother. As a result Rhys hides his mother while he stays with his friends. This gives he and Charli time to form a close, intimate connection. But she has to head home and he has set plans he can’t give up so they sadly say goodbye and promise to keep in touch. But this doesn’t last long and they loose contact.
The second part takes place some fifteen years later when Charli moves to Ireland. The intervening years have not been good for her. When she left Ireland years ago she was a confident, friendly, open heated and loveable person but she’s not at all who she was. She gwas married to a controlling, narcissistic man who destroyed her confidence, separated her from friends and family and she was only a shadow of who she used to be. She finally gathered enough courage to divorce him but left to move to Ireland with nothing but the promise of a job working as the head accountant with her uncle’s successful chain of hotels.
Very soon after she settles back into her former home, she unexpectedly meets Rhys again. He knew he would be seeing her again though and is shocked by the change in Charli. Their feelings for each other never left though Charli is broken and in no condition to get back into a relationship. But Rhys is loving and understanding, having lived most of his early life being abused, and he is slowly able to help in her healing.
I’ve read many books by this author and loved them. I can’t really put it in words but there is a uniqueness about them. There’s a tenderness and it feels like a quietness about them that is very soothing and comforting about them. It’s like sitting during a winter storm in a warm cozy blanket watching the snow fall, knowing everyone is safe and you’re well stocked and prepared. It’s almost soothing.
I love L.H. Comways books and can’t recommend them highly enough. They are on KU though I have purchased most of them so I have them close when I need that feeling they bring to me.
Read this story on Patreon - such a fabulous heartfelt read.
"The sad truth was that when it came to Charli Moretti, I'd crawl on my knees to be her second, third, fourth choice."
Charli Moretti and Rhys Doyle felt like old friends to me. I was invested in them from the very beginning. I loved how Charli crushed on Rhys and made him feel seen and heard. They had a beautiful, tender friendship and more as teenagers, and I just couldn't wait to leap forward into their future to see how their story played out.
"I was dangerously obsessed with this woman. Always had been. Her eyes and face, her body and voice were hardwired into my very being. As soon as she entered a room my body responded. I wanted her, had never stopped."
This story was well-written, engaging and heartfelt, and so satisfying to read. Charli and Rhys had such a wonderful connection and delicious chemistry. I've loved everything I've read by this author - she has such a way of connecting the reader to her characters. Loved it so much!
I picked up and put down this book several times. Then I read the end to see how it would finish... then I went back to read the rest of the book. It wasn't my favorite L.H. Cosway book, but I won't stop reading this author because it didn't hit me right at this time.

Quiet Longing (Quiet Love #2) is my first novel by L.H. Cosway and it won’t be my last! It was such a sweet, second chance romance novel that I couldn’t put down!
Quiet Longing is the second book in the Quiet Love series, however the books can be read as stand alone. I decided to read Quiet Longing first as the storyline peaked my interest more. The story is told in dual POV’s between Charli and Rhys. Charli is an American 18 year old about to start her first semester of college in the fall when she decides to spend the summer in Ireland with her Aunt, Uncle, and cousins. She meets Rhys, one of her cousins best friends who comes from a troubled home but has a heart of gold. He is like a big teddy bear. The two have the sweetest, most tender summer fling. Losing their virginities to one another. The word “love” is never used but you feel it on the pages between these two! Swoon! The summer ends and Charli returns home while Rhys fulfills his dream of enrolling in the French Army. The two promise to stay in contact but that quickly fades and they never talk to each other again…
This is where Part 2 begins. 16 years have gone by. Charli is recently divorced after a long painful marriage of domestic abuse. She decides to start over again in Ireland and work for her uncle. She always wondered what became of Rhys but she isn’t the same fun 18 year old she once was. Now she is fragile and suffers from PTSD/anxiety attacks.
Once she returns she seems him. Rhys. He’s even more handsome than he was at 19 and also works for her uncle as well. He remained close to her cousin and is part of the family. The two grow close again. Their friendship picks right back up and she almost becomes dependent of him as her safety net. He’s still that protective teddy bear.
I just adored Charli & Rhys as teenagers and adults. They definitely had emotional baggage due to family issues but the way they had each other to lean on was just beautiful. I love that it was a long build up between the two once Charli returned as adult but I would have liked to read more of Charli & Rhys as a couple.
L.H. Cosway writing held my interest and told a sweet story of first loves getting their second chance. I can’t wait to read another book from her.
I give Quiet Longing (Quiet Love #2) by L.H. Cosway 4.5 stars
Absolutely loved reading this one. Charli first meets Rhys after high school when she travels from Boston to stay with her cousins in Ireland for the summer. I lived there first half of the book as they get to know each other. It’s everything I love in high school and college romances as she spends time with her cousins and their friends and her friendship with Rhys develops into more. But when summer ends they each go off on to the next stage of their lives. The story picks up again sixteen years later when after a disastrous marriage and divorce, Charli heads back to Ireland to heal and for a fresh start. There Rhys and Charli find themselves back in each others lives as they are working together again.
This was such a well done and beautiful story. The characters and story were complex and both Rhys and Charli had a lot of things to work through throughout the course of the story. I loved how this progressed and just lost myself in these characters.
I loved Rhys and Charli's story so much! Their summer together as teenagers and the connection they had was wonderful. I really enjoyed how they built a friendship and explored their feelings for each other. Neither of these two had a perfect home life. My heart hurt for their pain and suffering. I was sad to see them go their separate ways, but I couldn't wait to get their reunion. They were definitely soul mates and kindred spirits. They picked up right where they left off, like no time had passed. Their bond was that strong. I loved every part of their journey and how they worked through the struggles to be healthier and happier people. I am loving this series so much, and I can't wait for Jonathan's story next.
Rhys was longing for a better life for him and for his mom. Then he meets Charli and he longs for a future with her.
Charli longs for adventure and belonging. She meets Rhys and then she longs for a future with him.
I, the reader, just felt pain during this longing because SIXTEEN YEARS?? I was happy and then broken. And then I broke more. That HEA was hard earned and fought for. Ugh, it hurt.

Thank you to the author and Grey’s Promotions for sharing this eARC with me. 🫶🏼
Charli and Rhys are so endearing. I have a soft spot for the quiet/recluse type characters that don’t see their worth (teen Rhys). I love that Charli sees HIM from their first hello. Their Summer of love is nostalgic for the teen years and falling for your first love. It’s heartbreaking what these two went through; their own separate tragedies and trauma. Fate brings them back into each other’s lives where they find healing and the love that never left. It is a good read. I just enjoyed the story of Shay and Maggie more. 4 solid stars!!!!!!
