A 3.5-star read for me, rounded up.
I never expect one author's work to give me just the same reading experience as another's.
Even so, when I checked out this new-to-me author's website and saw that he's got an appreciation for the classic humor of P.G. Wodehouse, that got me interested. I've been eating up Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster books and have also been enjoying the related British TV comedy series from the 1990s.
"What ho!" (in my Bertie Wooster voice. Uh…sort of.)
Sometimes this lover of deep and serious fiction needs reading she can just relax and laugh over. Or at least find chuckle-worthy. Or worth cracking a wacky smile over.
That's what I got with the misadventures of Terrence Winkworth, here. I was entertained from start to finish—even did some literal laughing out loud. Granted, I couldn't help cringing as other characters, particularly Terrence's father, orchestrated stripping Terrence of control over his life. But it made me feel all the more gung ho about his aspiration.
Aw, for peanut butter and jelly's sake, y'all! Just leave the poor man alone already. Even if, um…strictly speaking, he isn't poor, anymore. Or whatever.
Now, as for the writing style, there are some aspects that could have used some sharpening and polishing, which may come with further writing. But I'll admit I was distracted by the punctuation errors in this book, especially in the dialogue.
That is, a lot of the paragraphs of dialogue have closing quotation marks at the end when they shouldn't, since one character is speaking from one paragraph right into the next without dialogue tags or action beats in between. So, a lot of the closing quotation marks make it appear that the dialogue is switching between different characters when it actually isn't. I kept having to backtrack to double-check who'd said (or hadn't said) what. Also, a number of the paragraphs would have had a smoother flow if the action beats hadn't been separated from the dialogue.
Technical stuff, there. Might not even be there anymore in the copy you read. And, hey, I was enjoying the story itself enough to keep trucking right along.
The ending of this quick read indicates that there's more in store for poor/not poor/whatever-he-is Terrence. So I'll be over here keeping my eyes open for a second book.

July 31, 2025Terrance Winkworth is in his camper in a remote location in Utah. He is away from society and his parents. This tranquility is broken when a car pulls up next to his camper, at 8 in the morning. Two people have arrived; a lawyer and a woman who will be ruling his world.
Seems he has won a fifty million dollar sweepstake. He has also been placed under a conservatorship, courtesy of his parents. Great! He can’t even spend what money he has won!
This is the beginning to a madcap adventure. Terrance does buy a home in a very nice area. Unfortunately it is next to a CEO that is involved with the company that had the sweepstakes contest. There is no love there.
Next his father steps in and takes over the house in décor and providing “friends” for Terrance. (Terrance prefers to be left alone…..but Dad doesn’t care. Along with the fake friends come the influencers! Cameras all over the house live streaming Terrance’s world…at least trying to.
Between dealing with his body guard, Jim, and his assistant, Reggie, Terrance tries various ways to get out of this circus and back to peace, quiet and NO people.
A short, fun read about a guy who doesn’t want much of anything but finds himself in a deluge.

It's a fun, funny, witty story that I would classify as ABSURDISM, just minus the nonsensical unreal events. These events could actually happen.
The story starts with a man winning $50million dollars, but he doesn't want it, but it's forced upon him legally. Yeah, that's nonsensical in a way, and is bizarre without being full blown bizzaro. Because the more we (the reader) learn about the character, we realize why he doesn't want the money... Accidentally and by happenstance, the main character becomes an online influencer against his will...
there are laugh out loud moments, and I like a bit of comedy from time to time. I'm super surprised by the low ratings of this book because it's not meant to be taken seriously. I mean, did readers not see it for what it was? To me, it was a big joke, in a good way. It's a quick read and I blew through it much quicker than anticipated.

Could have had a little more character building to it.
It’s television comedy but on a lesser known channel.
Broad characters that served one purpose. Popped in when they needed to then left. Farce-lite.
Coincidences were just a little too coincidental.
Again, funny premise. Put your brain at the door and enjoy the 129 but I just wanted more.

This book is witty and sarcastic. It is funny and entertaining. It is a wonderful, quick, escapist read. It is absurd but at the same time you feel like this could happen. You may not agree with Terrence's choices. You might not understand how anyone can try to refuse 50 million dollars. But you will root for Terrence and feel for him as his life slides out of control. I enjoyed watching Terrence try to get out of this mess of other people's making just to end up further in. I enjoyed all of the strange people and events that kept popping up in Terrence's life. I enjoyed the ending too. I had a lot of fun reading this book and hope to see more from Fenwick in the future.

A very quick farcical read that is almost plausible. Laugh out out as you follow the main character find him self in situation after situation that he would rather not be in. He book starts out with him winning a large sum of money, but it ends up taking him further from his dreams of doing nothing, each step away funnier than the last.

This book was a refreshing book that had me laugh out loud quite a few times. It took an entirely new spin on influencers and growing up with money. Every spin you never expected occurred here, including a flying inflatable kangaroo. I’m telling you, just read it.

Wait this was such a fun read, quick and easy. And the whole book I was rooting for Terrance to get away and live his life peacefully in a nice camper in Joshua Park😂
