It is India’s first graphic novel to live adaptation. It has been adapted as an Amazon web series. While the adaptation is a perfect copy of the classic The Hills have eyes, the graphic novel is quite novel in its approach. The graphic novel keeps you engrossed panel to panel because of great art by Gaurav Shrivastav while dialogues by Shamik Dasgupta make the artwork comes alive. Unlike the web series, the original story does not have too many parallel storylines which make the plot dull and boring.
Concerns About an Author's Public Behavior I cannot comment on the quality of his books, as I have not evaluated them in depth. However, my personal experience with the author has been deeply negative. I have observed him frequently expressing strongly partisan and communal views on social media, and I have personally been subjected to repeated online harassment and abusive language from him.
I possess evidence of these interactions, which has significantly affected my perception of his public persona. As a result, I find it difficult to separate the author's work from what I view as an intolerant and divisive approach to public discourse. In my opinion, his social media conduct reflects a clear ideological agenda and a style of engagement that I find unacceptable.
While others may judge his literary or creative work differently, my own experience has left me with serious concerns about his credibility and character.
I've read the Bengali translation of this graphic novel and I must say, it left quite an impression. The narrative's build-up was captivating, drawing me in with its well-crafted storyline. Character development was skillfully executed, lending depth and complexity to the protagonists. The portrayal of violence and gore was vivid, adding a raw intensity to the narrative. The artwork, while slightly reminiscent of pulp aesthetics, possesses a deliberate charm that adds to its appeal. If I were to offer a critique, I'd say the execution could have been polished a bit more. But overall, it's a refreshing to see a graphic novel set within the Indian context, brimming with such ambition.
The art and colouring by Gaurav Shrivastav and Prasad Patnaik are truly fabulous. They bring alive the story in all its gritty, gory, larger than life panorama.
The story is something which we have seen and is predictable however the plot twists and sub plots keep you interested throughout. It has a social commentary regarding the plight of poor tribal people and how their voices are never heard under the might of the greedy, power hungry rich people.
P.R- 3.75/5 A good read overall. It's gore, horrifying, and touching at times. It maybe something not totally different or new but it keeps you engaged mainly due to its fast pace. The illustrations are top-notch and elevates the impact of the whole story. I hope the upcoming series (based on the comic) is as good as the book. Recommended!!
