The Science Is Sleep Adds Years to Your LifeRecent studies have drawn a direct line between quality sleep and lifespan extension. Research from the Harvard Medical School and the National Institute on Aging suggests that poor sleep increases the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, metabolic disorders, and even early death. In fact, a 2023 study published in The Lancet found that consistently getting less than six hours of sleep per night could shorten your lifespan by up to six years.
On the flip side, people who prioritise high-quality sleep tend to live longer, have better cognitive function, and maintain youthful vitality well into old age. Ever heard of the Blue Zones—the regions where people regularly live past 100? One common thread among them? They sleep well—deeply and consistently.
