Eternal Dreams

Rate this book
Infinite Existence encompasses all—even the dead. Kana and Ratchet find themselves broken and isolated, tasked with picking up the pieces after a failed revolution. The memory of a lost friend both haunts and inspires them. Each determines a path they must follow, knowing it could pull them apart—or worse, set them against each other.

The pressure to fulfill one’s duty clashes with the desire to honor another’s sacrifice. Titanic alliances are on the verge of forming, while equally formidable adversaries lurk in the shadows. Will the threat of immortal servitude be enough to unite their efforts, or will their selfish desires thrust them into the hands of another?

Bloody action, wicked technology, and a strong emotional core blend together in this thrilling sci-fi adventure. A fantastic sequel to one of my favorite debuts.

Themes of loss, loyalty, inequality, and friendship run rampant in this emotionally charged and action packed story of rebellion.

The character depth only deepens as the story closely follows two friends facing incredibly trying times.

Other things that I loved in their story were the intense action scenes, crazy creepy creatures, cyberpunkish technology, and the bantering between friends.

Highly recommend it if you enjoyed book 1 or are a fan of the Red Rising series.

If you love Marvel movies, Star Wars, and sci-fi dystopian stories like Red Rising, then this might be right up your alley. I think it’s an enjoyable story for readers who want characters you can really sink your teeth into while also getting fights, training, and Titan suits (read and find out 👀).

This is book two in a planned trilogy, so fair warning that the story is not wrapped up at the end of this book.

The story pacing for me was a little off kilter, especially if you jump into it immediately after book one like I did. Book one has such an explosive ending that then going into this one was a huge adjustment. Where book one gave a lot of attention to the societal issues at large, this book shifted focus to Kana and Ratchet and their own personal narratives. At times I felt impatient to get back to the big picture and some of the big reveals we had at the end of book one.

All in all, there’s plenty to enjoy in this series!

A hard-hitting, emotional follow-up to the spectacular Lost Souls. It's not a great entry point - I've read the first book and it still took me a bit to get fully immersed into it. But it fleshes out the world introduced in the first novel and expands the scope of the story immensely. Eternal Dreams grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go. It's personal, getting into the narratives of the side characters from Lost Souls, but pushes the main societal overhaul plot forward too. Definitely a good choice for anyone looking for a sci-fi adventure!

Filled with action and intrigue and set in a distant future on the Rings, this sequel left me with a bigger picture of life on the rings, with more mysteries to unravel in a future installment.

I do think the author had done some more "showing" and less "telling", but could still use more work. I also think more characterization might've helped with that. For example, there's two characters whose relationship I wasn't sold on as it felt forced/rushed.

The action scenes were good, and some of the twists were great.

If you're into dystopian futures with cool armored suits, mysteries, and crazy characters, give this series a try! Rating is a 3.75 rounded up

Eternal Dreams is a fantastic sequel novel to Lost Souls. It not only shines in its place in the series, but also as its own book. I had the pleasure of beta reading this book, and read it again after release. I have to really emphasise the growth in Ryan's writing here. This is the kind of book that feels so much more substantial and fleshed out than LS, and really cements Ryan in the indie SFF scene as an author to watch. I loved every second of this book, loved the downright creepiness to the secret puppet masters, the blossoming love between two of the MC's ... it really is a feat to one-up a debut, and that's just what Ryan has done.
