First off, it's extremely easy to read, and easy to actually pictures the descriptions, without having any tech knowledge. Though having some airfoil knowledge, and being an F4u fan does help to understand the incredible maneuvers, that would be impossible, without the Alpha! It made me laugh, cry, cheer, and kept me way more than interested! It also left me wanting more! I'm happy to place Allen as an author, in the same conversation as Tolkien, King, L'Engle, Chalker Etc.! There were actually even parts, and style, that reminded me of the Well of souls series! Overall, great story, and actually very original!
The protagonist is brilliantly crafted, flawed yet fearless and the "Zone Engine" itself is one of the most fascinating concepts I've come across in years. It’s rare to find a novel that feels both cinematic and deeply philosophical, but this one does it with style. Think Inception meets The Matrix, but smarter.

Van Camp’s prose is as sharp as a Planck-length scalpel. Concepts like non-locality, temporal inversion, and zero-point manipulation are made not only comprehensible but exhilarating. But what sets this book apart is its human core; the characters aren’t just passengers in a wild thought experiment; they are inventors, rebels, and dreamers driven by awe, grief, and love.
Cold fusion’s promise turns to peril in The Zone Engine. Van Camp’s disparate heroes face corporate thugs, secret agencies, and cosmic mystery. One sacrifice echoes through time in a gripping rescue mission.
This book had everything I love science with real stakes, rich characters, and moments that genuinely made me tear up. I especially loved the young prodigy character totally believable and not just a token genius. And that final twist? I did not see it coming.
This book isn’t just a read; it’s an experience, one that lingers long after the final page. If you love smart thrillers with emotional depth and mind-blowing ideas, The Zone Engine is your next obsession. Highly recommend!
