A razor-sharp, neon-noir thriller, Jeffery’s contemporary crime drama is a cry for justice for women on the wrong side of a system built to protect the wealthy and powerful. This gritty, suspenseful play will keep you guessing until the very end.
The Extractionist was an excellent play and I'm so glad I got to read it. I really hope I get the chance to see it performed some day.
The back of the book describes it as a "razor-sharp, neon-noir thriller" and I think that fits it perfectly. The characters are really interesting and the story had some great twists throughout. The commentary on the treatment of women by society, by powerful men, and by the law is powerful and rings far too true. I also thought it offered some interesting insights on the behaviour of cult leaders and cult members.
The settings were so varied that it was hard to imagine how some of it would work on stage, but that just makes me more curious to see how it would be performed and what a great director and crew could really do with it. I feel like it would make a great movie as well.
Highly recommend this for anyone looking for an exciting but thought provoking play.
