Having realized his feelings towards his classmate, Amane chooses to keep them hidden and preserve the air of friendship he and Ryuuji have already. Yet, each moment spent with him, even if it’s just studying, only causes Amane to fall harder. Until after dinner one night, Amane confesses-unable to hold back his true feelings any longer. But will Amane get the answer he hopes for from an Ambushed Ryuuji...?
The only complaint I had about Vol. 1 is that we don't know much about Ryuuji, but Maru Kubota immediately rectifies that with this volume. Their interactions with each other are so sweet and earnest that you can't help but root for them; I could not stop squealing the entire time I was reading this. That scene where Ryuuji sees Amane off after dinner, along with the one at the fireworks, made my heart skipped a beat. In terms of art, something that stuck out is how hatching is used to create texture. It makes the scenes so much more vibrant and lived-in. Easily one of my favorite ongoing BLs right now.
THIS IS WAY TOO CUTE! I really, really love how both Amane and Ryuuji deal with their feelings. The way Amane confessed because he couldn't hold it in anymore, to Ryuuji asking for some time, they're so in love.
This series is one of the most wholesome adorable things I’ve read in the entire year. Amane and Ryuuji are such sweethearts and there were times when I was just smiling while reading the panels. My only gripe is that it felt a bit rushed if I’m being honest.
I don't know how it's possible for something to be this ridiculously sweet without getting too sappy. But somehow, it works.
The complete lack of drama continues...I do wonder how it will stretch into multiple volumes if there's not going to be anything pulling against their relationship, but for now it's just a really nice, calming story about a young gay guy finding love and stability in a totally unexpected place.
Ryuuji is an amazing guy, really. Not great at school, but incredibly hard working, reliable, level-headed, and very mature for his age - something he got from his dad but also had seared into him by that early loss. He feels responsible for his mother and little siblings now, and for the restaurant his dad had entrusted to him when he was just a kid, so most of his energy's going into taking care of other people.
But when Amane comes along, they form an immediate, surprisingly strong friendship, with Ryuuji finally starting to want something that's just for himself. He accepts Amane's sexuality without question - I'm not sure where he got his open-mindedness, but I think he's just the kind of person who's very laidback about everything and doesn't judge other people. Maybe something he got from his dad, too.
He's less sure what to do when Amane actually confesses to him, particularly since there's no ask involved in the confession. So he pulls Amane aside and tells him he needs to know exactly what he means and what he wants so he can think about what kind of answer to provide. Their friendship doesn't particularly seem in danger, regardless of the outcome, which leaves Amane free to be more true to himself and honest about his feelings.
The fireworks scene was lovely. And it really works for Ryuuji to say he doesn't know if he loves Amane like that, but he does know that he missed him a lot over the summer, and if a "boyfriend" label means not having to come up with excuses to see him all the time, then why don't they go with that. Loved him asking Amane for permission for a kiss after Amane had done the same, because he's new to relationships and thinks, going by example, that's what you're supposed to do.
It's a very sweet first love. I'm not entirely sure how I can see it stretching out into a lot more volumes, but I'm definitely interested in the journey.
Also loved Ryuuji's family immediately adoring Amane. Moving to this little town really was the best option for him.
Amane takes a leap and admits his feelings to Ryuuji, but runs off right away, afraid of the past repeating and the loss of their friendship. The last thing he expected was Ryuuji sitting down with him and calmly asking him to explain what he means and what he wants from their relationship. We also get a lot more backstory on Ryuuji and why he works so earnestly at the family restaurant. It's also rather adorable how Ryuuji's entire family adore Amane, who seems to be starved for family attention and love. There's a rather sweet progression with an underlying friendship that doesn't suddenly change or disappear just because they're coming from different places initially. If there is one thing that Ryuuji is good at that helps center Amane, it's his insistence that they stay on the same page and he never judges or punishes Amane from his thoughts or feelings, but instead validates them while still taking the time he needs for himself in a thoughtful manner that doesn't hurt their friendship.

Definitely enjoyed this one more than the first. It being a romance manga, there's not much to comment on besides the main relationship, which I think is cute but relatively two-dimensional. I wish the author would let us take the time to get to know these characters on their own before jumping into the dating and romance aspect.
My main criticism is that there's no tension, no questions. The main character (who has supposedly given up on falling in love) has now immediately fallen for and is now dating the first person he ran into after moving (in the first like three pages of the story). It's fluffy and sweet, but not engaging to me personally.
Really sweet and innocent for the premise of one of them being a man whore. I love them and I like that it is dual POV. They are so cute together and I love the family parts of this volume and the festival. What is a romance high school manga without a sweet festival? They are so cuteeeeeeeeee.
Oh and the cat is cute. I think the stamina jokes are hilarious and I am not tired of them yet. I hope he can start to heal a bit of his hurt he has felt in the past.
I really love Ryuuji and Amane's characters in the manga. They’re totally different from the drama version, haha. In the manga, they feel more alive, and I can really feel their chemistry. Ah, they’re so sweet!
M'ha faltat un pèl de química entre els personatges, però entenc que és un slow burn de manual amb una transició d'amics a amants molt gradual. Tot i així, una història la mar de tendra!!! :3
i just LOVE the two main characters man :( i love them individually and i love them together!!!! this is exactly what mg heart needs to read right now <3
