A Royal's Soul

Rate this book
When rare magic awakens in Percy Flores, everything changes. Once overlooked, the half-witch is now at the centre of a conflict that could unravel the balance of power across the kingdom.

To protect her, Selene Borealis—vampire princess and heir to the throne—is forced to act. Bound by a soul match she never wanted, Selene will go to any lengths to keep Percy alive… even if it means abandoning everything she knows.

As danger closes in and rebellion rises, Percy finds herself caught between the brutal politics of the Houses, the legacy of her vanished coven, and the darkly magnetic woman who owns her heart—as much as she breaks it.

But some truths can’t stay buried. And when secrets bleed into the open, both women must choose between survival and surrender, loyalty and love.

Book Three of the Soul Match series is a slow-burn dark romantic fantasy that blends power, peril, and desire in a story of witches, vampires, soul bonds, and what it means to choose love when the world demands anything but.

Frustrating Percy has no agency in the relationship and in the story.

This book seemed like an in between book. Not much happened and there was not much development in the relationship or world building. Why is intercoven magic forbidden in this world when the witches live in covens? This world and the technology still feels confusing. The first book had them fighting with swords. This book had automatic weapons. It honestly makes it harder to take seriously why people are might be afraid of Party's new magic or even how purebloods still have so much power with the level of technology.

It honestly felt like Selene regressed a bit. She was more controlling and belittling in this book. She speaks about how she loves Percy but her actions say otherwise. It's abusive.

Despite wanting to marry and have children she still treats Percy as if she is beneath her. Last book it seemed like Selene was going to enoble her but this book she is treated more like her slave again.

The bdsm without mutual respect left a bad taste in my mouth. Percy may be kinky but she doesn't want to be her slave or real pet. It feels like Selene forces her and we are just told Percy is into it. And other times she is clearly not ok but she just blames herself for being 'naughty'.

Percy gives into the bad treatment acting like it's her fault for having feelings and opinions of her own.
I don't know why Percy loves Selene so much. It was honestly pretty bad and others have started pointing out how bad it is but Percy doesn't see it.

There was also a lot of continuity errors. House Flores also had land in the last book. And there were a few other minor things.

And yet despite all this I still want their relationship to work some how. I want Selene to evolve and treat Percy like an equal not a possession even if they have a kinky bedroom life.

I received a copy of this book as an ARC reader

I need to start off by saying that Selene Borealis has done nothing wrong in her life and I love her and want to protect her from the world (even if she doesn’t need it)

As far as the book is concerned, Percy needs to stop her self pity and actually acknowledge that she’s got a social standing even if she started as a low class. Surely it would have clicked by now that being related in any form to the princess gives her a privilege.

However, I’m really enjoying that she has started to use and grow her magic. It’s also kind of endearing that she remains this kind and pure even if it borders naivety.

WE ALSO CANNOT FORGET THE SPICE 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I thoroughly enjoyed every single scene and I need more thank you very much.

And the ending??? I had to take a good fifteen minutes to process, I can’t believe I have to wait to see what happens next I’m so hyped!!

There’s a reason it’s one of my favourite series, the dynamic between the MCs is a dream come true.

Percy…

As Percy and Selene’s story progressing we are learning bits and pieces about Percy and her background. This story ends on a huge cliffhanger. It did not end in a good place.

I must say that in this book I barely recognized Percy. I knew her character was growing in depth and character. It is time to dig into her background and see how her and Selene move forward in a new world. In order to do so, Percy must change somehow. A revelation of sorts must happen. Like emerging bloodlines. Is she part nobility? What has been hidden from her. Who is she exactly? It keeps hinting at being the great great granddaughter of a Prince. And somehow what happened to the Flores Coven? Why and when did they disband? there is much explaining to do.

Percy’s immaturity and young age began to show in this book in the series than any other. It is the first time that I didn’t really care for Percy. She acted like a brat more than she ever had in previous books. There were so many times where I didn’t really care for her and wanted Selene to send her home or something. It is starting to feel as if Selene is more committed to Percy than the other way around. Percy has been acting as if she was not kidnapped, almost killed a couple time, and then the latest with things happening here at The Arden Estate. She acts as if she doesn’t know Selene. She acts as if Selene is actually abusing her. She has become rude, ungrateful, disrespectful, immature and easily led astray when it matters the most. She keeps acting like she doesn’t understand the importance of keeping her identity a secret and not drawing attention to herself. She was quite literally silly when it came to Katrina. She allows things to get under her skin when she shouldn’t.

Selene could have done better with a different soul match. I am currently NOT connected to or Team Percy at this moment. I only feel and understand Selene. And now that we have met Adamantia and Sasha adding more to the mix is great.

Hopefully, the next book will tell us:
Who is Percy?
Where is the Flores Coven?
Who was Persephone?
Why did the coven disband?
Why did they leave Percy behind?
What exactly is this new power?
Who is Sasha to a Flores witch?
What happens to Selene?
Where is Katrina?
Is that Dylan?
Where is Ana and Heidi?
What happens to Adamantia and Sasha?
What happens in the maze?

God, where do I start with this. My thoughts are reeling. I'll start by saying I went crazy when I realised this book was out and I'm so disappointed. This book is dealing with the aftermath of trauma so its way more emotional than the first 2 books, which I loved. But how they're dealing is infuriating. Princess is back to being abusive and flower girl is just plain stupid. And I mean that not in the endearing way but the way that is super annoying. What I find interesting is how it gives me opposite kind of feelings, like yes, she's isolated and kept in the dark most of the time, so yes, understandable but dude you've seen enough of the world already to know it's not a nice place? Same with Selene, yes we get you're trying to protect her but you're so overdoing it. Promising never to hurt her and keep doing just that. At this point I feel like we're keep making excuses for both of them. I was really impressed with the maze. And it got hurt, potentially destroyed before we learned more about it, it made me so sad. I really hope it won't be it's end. Ah and Dylan. I was waiting for him during the entire book, feeling like he's about to be back and I hate him for it. And again, Percy's naivety calling him a friend after everything he put her through. God I wish Selene did skin him alive after he touched what didn't belong to him, he annoys me so much it's not even funny. Can't believe the book ended on such a cliffhanger either. I'm sure I'll read the next book but I don't know if my heart will be in it. Probably will reread the first two books as I did many times before though.

My rating: 3.5 Stars

I was really excited to get an early read, especially since I’d been waiting for the sequel for quite a while. The change of setting was a nice surprise—I loved seeing the story expand and dive deeper into the world the author has built. I really hope we get to explore even more of the different clans and covens in the future, especially the ones connected to Percy.

I also really enjoyed the introduction of new characters. It was interesting to meet purebloods linked to Selene, as well as a few fresh faces around Percy. That said, I did miss some of the characters from the previous book—I’m hoping we’ll see them again in the author’s next work.

If I had one main critique, it’s that this installment felt more like a setup than a full story. It gave me the impression of being the first part of something bigger—like an extended prologue laying the groundwork for what’s still to come. I liked that we’re starting to see more of Percy’s powers, and I can’t wait to see them in action, but I would’ve loved to see them play a bigger role already. Her relationship with Selene is also going through changes, and while that added some interesting tension, it felt like the real development is being saved for future books.

I also found myself wishing Percy would start moving through this world with a bit more awareness. By now, she knows it well enough that I’d love to see her gain more confidence, make sharper choices, and stop being so easily caught in other people’s games. I’m really hoping the next books give more space to her growth and let her shine a bit more. At the same time, I’d love to see Selene improve in how she communicates—so many of their struggles seemed to come from misunderstandings or things left unsaid, and I think that’s something worth exploring as their bond deepens.

That said, I still really enjoyed the read. The spicy moments were beautiful and well written, and I’m hoping they’ll be explored even more in the next installment.

I’m definitely excited to keep going with the series, and I can’t wait to see how these characters and their love story grow.

I liked the first book and loved the second one—but this one was a hard read. I almost gave up on it, but I kept going because I wanted to see the purpose behind the setback in their relationship, or where the author was trying to take it. Turns out, it led nowhere.

The dent I left in my couch blissfully rotting away for three days rereading and reading books one two and three was criminal. Would 10/10 recommend. 😈

In book 3, Selene and Percy’s relationship is more center stage than before. It changes in a way that I didn’t expect but fully enjoyed. How it evolves is both believable and deeply relatable. Their struggles, growth, and eventual discoveries feel authentic and appropriate for the new environment outside of the Academy.

However, Jeffrey made sure to keep the tantalizing bits that I’m sure we have all come to love between these two untouched. You’ll still put this book down feeling like you need a marking session of your own.

What truly makes this series top tier is Jeffrey’s unparalleled talent for bringing every character to life. Whether you find yourself loving or despising them, each character feels vividly real; which in my opinion, is a feat that few authors achieve.
It is that skill that elevates her world building and keeps me invested in the characters’ storyline.

I was giggling. I was rolling my eyes. I was consumed. Is book 3 going to be what you expect? Probably not. But it will not disappoint!

Can’t wait for book 4!.

fkn cliffhanger UGHHHH

i feel there is still no growth in the characters. i’m getting bored. Selene needs to open up and Percy, while a little better in this book, still needs to stand up for herself and stop giving into Selene so quickly.

i’m intrigued about this new power of Percy’s tho!

Love this Series.

Selena and Percy. Selena is pureblood vampire. She is set to become Queen. Percy is half witch. Of the Flores coven. Granted with ability to grow plants. They are soul matches. And they love each other. But there are always issues. Start with the 1st book and enjoy. There is great world building. Enjoy.

This wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025. Another book in this series no way. The first two books I read about two years ago were a guilty pleasure of mine and I was truly excited to read more despite the rating I gave both.

I do think this is the best book out of the series so far. But oh my did Percy get on my everlasting nerves. I liked how her sassiness came out more in the book. But I desperately wanted her to… I don’t know … fight back more stand her ground. But every time I thought that was going to happen she just gave in so easily to Selene. It was kind of sad and sooo frustrating. I hope to see more backbone from Percy in the future regarding her relationship with Selene. And don’t get me wrong Selene frustrated me as well and needs some development, but Percy really grinds my gears in this book especially towards the end.

Despite the rating, I will be continuing the series it’s just something about it I need and want to read more.

I had to go back and reread the first took books in the series because it's been years between the book 2 and 3. With that said, everything was fresh, and I was able to dive right into this book without having to think back and try to remember past interactions.

I really enjoyed the latest book of this series. Percy is starting to come into her own with her power that is independent of Selene. The relationship between the two seems more forced than the other two books. Yeah, there's plenty of sex, but that doesn't mean there's intimacy. I get both Percy and Selene's perspectives on their current situation in that regard, but it makes Percy seem like she's twelve and Selene felt colder than the first book.

Relationship stuff aside, the magic was almost really flipping cool. I say almost, because there weren't any conclusions, just more questions. I'm dying to know more about the Flores coven and Percy's family on both sides. I was also really disappointed about the maze. It was built up to be something amazingly powerful awesome and mysterious that was hinted at that maybe Percy's new ability might unlock something epic, yet it could be blown apart my basic bombs. Kinda made it lame.

Four stars instead of five because the relationship situation. At the end of the first book there were hints of a soul match being something truly special, second book was a progression on that and then the third book it was like I was reading a romance between high schoolers.

I read all three books back to back and am obsessed with this series! This one is probably my favorite because Percy is stepping into herself more. I like that she’s becoming a stronger person on her own and learning about her new ability. While her development is slow, I enjoyed her stepping out of the weaker role she’s played in the last two books. I do enjoy the dynamic between the two, but Selene constantly keeping her in the dark is SO annoying. I’m hoping by the next book, there will be a newfound respect and trust from Selene for Percy. While they both have their roles in their Dom-sub relationship, it would be nice to see Percy grow into the stronger character she’s capable of being. It would also be nice for Selene to not underestimate Percy so much, and I think that has to do with Percy still being kind of “weak”, so maybe she sees her as too vulnerable to give that to her. But all in all, I want to see their bond fully formed because they could be the strongest power couple, especially if/when Percy embraces her new ability.

All in all, love this and cannot wait for the next book!!

I received this book as an ARC reader. I could’ve cried from how happy I was to finally get my hands on Book 3—it felt like I’d been waiting forever, and it was so worth it.
I was so impatient to dive into it because I absolutely loved the evolution of the relationship in Book 2. I especially adored how Solene became sweeter, and I was really looking forward to seeing more of that growth in this installment.

That said, the only downside for me was that I didn’t quite find the same Solene I loved in Book 2—instead, she felt more like the version from Book 1, if that makes sense. But honestly, it fits. The way the characters are growing together, and the struggles in their relationship, felt real and relatable. And considering the political situation they’re facing, it’s actually quite justified.

This book is absolutely breathtaking—packed with action from the very first page to the last. I loved it and the direction the story is taking. I can’t wait for Book 4! Thank you, J.K. Jeffrey—you did it again.

The spice is good too 🫢

I received an ARC from this book.

I couldn't wait to finally read it and find out more about the story. I'm a huge fan from the first two books and now also from the third :)
I loved the story. It was super interesting and thrilling because you don't know what to expect. Both of them need to work on themselves and their relationship. It may seem a little harsh sometimes, but both of them seem to be traumatized from further events in book one and two.
I'm super happy that we finally got book 3, and I can't wait for more to come 😊

I liked the first two books even if they had their flaws, but this book just kinda sucked. all the worst aspects of the first two books were amplified. with Percy and Selena’s relationship being worse than ever and not in a cute way. Also political plot taking up a lot of space when i don’t care about it and was not developed well. Also Percy just seemed so much worse in this book, much more pathetic. like recognizing when she’s being treated poorly but just taking it from literally everyone.

Haaaah. I'm a sucker for vampire romantasies, that's why I'm still here. And holy moly I don't know if there is a chapter without Percy crying. And sadly, the plot is veeery thin and the book seems to be only a preparation for the next one. But yeah, I'll read that too, because I would really love this series if it was just a little bit better.

Finally! We have a new book in the Soul Match series. I was so excited to be given an arc to read for an honest review.

This book felt a little different from the two before it. For one, the Academy plays a much smaller role than in previous books. The focus on the relationship between Selene and Percy is also more of a central part of the plot, and it's not all lovey dovey swoony stuff this time either. Selene and Percy have rushed into their relationship up until now, and are now experiencing some growing pains. They are needing to find a new balance and their personalities clash because of it. This isn't always pretty either. Selene has become less soft suddenly, leaving Percy on uneven footing. They've both given into habits that aren't very good for who they are as a couple, especially in public. So, some people may come away from this book a little upset about Selene...but keep in mind that they live in a very different world than we do and have different mores and expectations.

The last way this book is different from past books is that the true threat in the book for Slene and Percy doesn't pop up until the end, when before it's popped up closer to the middle with time for one to rescue the other. This time things don't occur until the end and we're left with a cliffhanger. Ugh. Hopefully the fourth book won't be too long this time.

We spent very little time with our usual cast of characters. A new, small cast of characters is brought in specifically for this book. And, I definitely don't like them as much. That isn't to say they aren't good additions. They help expand the worldbuilding for the series quite a bit, and give more nuance to Selene's life before Percy. Hopefully they all make it out of the cliffhanger in one piece.

I thoroughly enjoyed this newest book and plan on buying it to support the author as soon as it's out. This is one of my favorite series out there and I look forward to more from this author.

J.K. Jeffrey continues to weave a sapphic fantasy that feels deeply intimate, thrillingly political, and emotionally grounded.

We return to Percy, our beloved flower witch, and Selene, the fiercely possessive vampire princess who owns and adores her completely. Their relationship remains the heart of the story—tender, passionate, and filled with that rich balance of power and vulnerability that I love so much. It's rare to find a sapphic couple written with this much intensity and care. Every kiss, every act of devotion, feels earned and deeply felt.

The stakes are higher than ever in this installment, as political intrigue weaves its way into every corner of their world. With the noble houses scheming and Percy seen by many as a pawn, there’s a real sense of urgency, but what makes it even more compelling is how Jeffrey uses these external pressures to deepen the characters. Percy and Selene don’t just survive the tension—they grow through it, together.

And yes, the intimate scenes are as sweet, explicitly passionate, and emotionally charged as ever. Every moment of closeness feels both loving and claiming, which is everything I look for in this kind of dynamic.

It was also such a joy to see familiar faces again, Heidi and Ana, who I've missed, and to be introduced to a wonderful supernatural lesbian family. Sasha, in particular, is an absolute treasure.

I'm especially intrigued by Percy's evolving magic. It's eerie, beautiful, and a little bit haunting. I have a feeling that the next book will hold some truly exciting reveals about the nature of magic in this world, and I can’t wait.

Could take my eyes off and read this in one sitting. 8/10

Quick note before I dive in deeper there shall be no major spoilers in this review.

Now first and most importantly Selene and Percy are a joy to read. Their relationship is unconventional to say the least however it is clear that they love each other very much and are willing to … idiotic things (lets go with that) for one another. This is very important as this books further expands on their connection.

Selene is very clearly struggling with her nature but she is starting to get a grip on herself and Percy. She is taking the reins *wink wink* and making sure she doesn’t go off the rails with herself because one she has always been controlling and two she will lose it if something happens to Percy.

Percy on the other hand needs to do a bit of growing up. I had hoped she had learned that she now holds a high place in society alas it is not be yet. She is still get used to getting her life uprooted from simple flower girl that lives near the shores to the Princess practically consort whether people know that they are each others soulmates or not.

As for the plot, I quite enjoyed as we are thrown into another setting away from the Academy partly due to Percy’s ignorance and partly due to Selene’s paranoia (although not without merit). My main complaint and why I took a star off is because the book felt like it was a bit of a setup for the next one and cliffhanger demanded there be another chapter from whoever’s POV before the book finished.

Despite all that cannot wait for book four!

A Dark, Sapphic Fantasy That Sinks Its Fangs Right Into Your Soul

I don’t even know where to begin. A Royal’s Soul is everything I didn’t know I needed in a lesbian paranormal fantasy. The story is dark, magnetic, and richly layered with political intrigue, forbidden magic, soul-bonded romance, and just the right dose of emotional chaos.

Percy is the perfect underdog heroine, half-witch, underestimated, and suddenly thrown into the center of a kingdom-shaking conflict. And Selene? Don’t get me started. The vampire princess is equal parts deadly and tender, a brooding force of nature who you know will break your heart… and you’ll thank her for it.

Their dynamic is pure slow-burn tension. It’s not your typical insta-love (thank the gods), but something deeper, complicated, raw, and messy in the most human way. The soul match adds emotional weight and real stakes, and the way Jeffrey writes their connection? Unmatched.

The worldbuilding is also top-tier. I could see the Houses, feel the rebellion stirring, and taste the danger in every corner. The lore around witches, vampires, and magical hierarchies is immersive and fresh, perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses, From Blood and Ash, and House of Earth and Blood.

Yes, there are dark themes (check the content warnings), but they’re handled with care and depth. The emotional payoff is worth every page.

I’m honestly blown away. This book didn’t just tell a story, it commanded attention. If you’re craving a fierce, queer fantasy with heart, grit, and soul… this is it.

What happened here?

I really loved the past two books in the Soul Match series. Yes, the editing was atrocious and the plots were never that deep, but the relationship between Selene and Percy was sweet and spicy enough that I couldn't help but want them to work out.

Unfortunately this third installment completely derails the narratives and character development of the first two. It starts off confusing and unclear and doesn't get any better over the course of the novel. The plot is based around a ban on inter-coven magic which is never mentioned in the previous two books even though it would absolutely have come up. Nothing much of consequence happens plot-wise either, at least until the very end of the book.

Again, I know these books have never had the most thought-out plots, but it's not like the spice is much good in this one either. There's only a few half-baked scenes and Selene always initiates them to distract Percy from her very real concerns about their relationship, which feels completely at odds with the ending of the second book. If takes Selene from hot and dominant to just plain icky. And the characters' first scene with toys was something I was looking forward to, but that also just fell entirely flat.

This was probably one of my most anticipated novels for the last while so maybe my hopes were too high, but it just didn't have the magic of the first two books for me. Hopefully book number four will be better.

Selene and Percy are officially a couple!

Selene, the vampire princess, has finally accepted the soul match she thought she never wanted and now she must balance her budding romance with her royal duties. Meanwhile, Percy, the covenless witch, struggles to control her magic when she discovers that she is far more powerful than anyone realized. The third installment of J. K. Jeffery’s romantic fantasy series continues to deliver and even elevates sizzling spice scenes as Selene brings a whole new level of intensity to the bedroom.

I adored the introduction of fresh characters and the new setting adds a whole new layer of fantastical elements that immerse the reader’s into Selene and Percy’s world. If you are a fan of sapphic romance, then this series is an absolute must-read because their romance is a heart-pounding, toe-curling whirlwind of ecstasy, while the thrilling adventures had me on the edge of my seat, breathless with anticipation. This book completely captivated me, and now I desperately crave the fourth. Fair warning: this book ends on a cliffhanger!.

“A Royal’s Soul” by J.K. Jeffrey marks the third installment in the series, and with it comes a noticeable shift in scenery and tone. I appreciated how the author stepped away from the familiar school setting, introducing a new environment and additional family members. These changes brought a fresh dynamic to the story and added some much-needed depth and color.

One of the most significant developments in this book is Percy’s transformation. Well, well, well—she's finally found her voice. It’s clear the author is aiming to grow her character, which I respect, but I found myself with mixed feelings about the person Percy is becoming. While growth is essential, her new direction didn’t entirely sit right with me. At times, it made the story less appealing, and I struggled to stay fully engaged with at least half of the book because of this.

Overall, while I admire the bold changes and continued world-building, A Royal’s Soul didn’t resonate with me as strongly as the earlier books. I'm curious to see where things go next, but I hope Percy’s development finds a more balanced footing.
