Wow. Becoming a Lion is one of those books that sneaks up on you—you think you’re reading an inspirational memoir, and suddenly you’re seeing your own fears, relationships, and struggles reflected back at you in the most unexpected ways. Liz writes with a rare mix of honesty, humor, and heart. She’s not afraid to share her brokenness—her irrational fear of vampires, messy fights with her husband, the loneliness of being a “lone wolf,” or the crushing grief of losing her father. But instead of leaving us there, she gently (and sometimes fiercely) points us toward courage. The animal metaphors are brilliant. Who hasn’t “played possum” to avoid conflict, or chased the wrong “lamp” like a moth mistaking it for the moon? These images stick with you. And by the time she gets to the lion—oh my goodness—you’re ready to rise up and roar right alongside her. This isn’t a stiff, self-help “10 steps to courage” kind of book. It feels like sitting across from a friend over coffee while she shares her wildest stories, and somehow you walk away braver because of it. I’d call it part memoir, part pep talk, and part spiritual adventure. It’s uplifting without being cheesy, raw without being heavy, and deeply encouraging without ever feeling preachy. If you need a reminder that courage is in you—that your scars can be your strength, that your fears can turn into treasures—Becoming a Lion is the book to read. Honestly? I think this one is going to inspire a lot of people to roar louder. 🦁✨
Liz is such a beautiful writer. Her playful but thoughtful exploration of life is a refreshing drink of water. She makes you feel seen and known and present. The narrative here pairs beautifully with the visuals and paintings in this book!
What an honest, creative and inspiring read! Becoming a Lion challenged me and left me eager to live more fully. This is unlike any self help book I’ve ever read.
