Take Heart for Teens is a 366-day devotional that helps readers grow a deeper, stronger faith by taking their real troubles to the real God.
Friendship struggles, academic pressure, busy schedules, questions about the future—where can you turn when life becomes overwhelming? Even as a teenager you know how difficult life can be—with struggles coming at you from all directions, inside and out. No matter what your day holds, you can take heart because the Lord is with you. He hears your cries for mercy and knows your every need. He guides, helps, and strengthens you every day. He is your true north.
Through this year of short daily devotionals from the writings of David Powlison, teenagers will learn how to go to God to ask for the help you need and take hold of the grace he offers. God’s promises are true and the resurrection of Jesus guarantees that no matter what you may be facing, you can live in real hope.

I received Take Heart for Teens compliments of New Growth Press in exchange for my honest review.
Take Heart for Teens is a devotional for teenagers adapted from the late David Powlison's Take Heart devotional. Powlison was a biblical counselor and writes with gentleness and compassion. This book includes a brief devotional for each day of the year. Each devotional begins with Scripture, and a few begin with the lines of a hymn.
The content encourages teens to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus in the midst of the many things they are likely experiencing. The devotions conclude with a Take With You section, which includes an encouragement crafted by the editors of the book. I found the one on page 14, especially encouraging. It says, "In John 1:5, it says, 'The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.' This is a promise to you. There is no darkness in your life that the light of Christ cannot reach. Take heart. You are not alone."
This is a devotional for teens, yet as an adult far removed from the teen years, I was greatly comforted by its content. If you want to help a teen grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord, I highly recommend purchasing them a copy of Take Heart for Teens.
Take Heart for Teens encourages young readers to spend daily time with God to deepen their faith and reliance in Him. This is a thick book with one-page daily devotions. Don’t let each devotion’s brevity fool you—though they are only a page long, they’re packed with spiritual truths that inspire readers to walk their daily lives in “awe and wonder.”
I love devotionals—especially those that are labeled with each day of the year, from January 1 to December 31. I used to be intimidated by dated devotionals because—what if I miss a day? Easy. With only one-page readings, it’s easy to play catch-up if you get behind. But why miss even a day when each reading only takes a few minutes and provides a full day of encouragement. It’s a blessing to be reminded that God is always there.
This book makes a wonderful Christmas gift for teens. The end of the Christmas season brings in a new year, and being reminded to spend each day closer with God is a priceless gift indeed!

In Take Heart for Teens, David Powlison presents daily devotions designed to strengthen your teen’s faith. This book will help them rest in the Savior and grow up in God.
Written with warmth and wisdom, it encourages teens with the hope of the gospel. Each page includes a short Scripture passage, a brief devotional thought, and a “Take With You” point of application. It’s a sturdy structure that helps teens develop the habit of thinking about God every day.
Heart and Hope
What impressed me most was the overall sense of hope Powlison draws from the gospel. Anxiety, fear, and evil are addressed with grace, faith, and God. This book speaks directly to the heart of youth with the hope of the gospel.
As a preacher and teacher of the youth at my church, I read this book and said “Amen,” while praying for my students. Take Heart for Teens will bring comfort, peace, and joy as it points your youth to Jesus.
