Taming the Dragon's Heart

The moment I meet my new boss, I know I’m in trouble.

I’ve never worked for a dragon shifter before, but that’s not the half of it. Evan’s scorching good looks set me on fire and tempt me to break every rule in the book.

This isn’t like me. I’m always the professional one. The good girl. I don’t fall for bad boys, and Evan is more dangerous than most. I’m almost certain his nightclub, The Dragon’s Den, exists solely for his personal pleasure.

But I can’t work out why, when he can have anyone he wants, he looks at me like I’m the only woman in existence. Except there is someone else I know who means the world to the surprise baby daughter who was left on his doorstep.

He claims he’s not cut out to be a father, but I disagree.
And I’d know. Because I’m the new nanny…

Taming the Dragon’s Heart brings you all 4 sizzling books of Mariah and Evan’s electrifying love story, now bundled into one irresistible edition! Get ready for passion, danger, and a connection that will leave you breathless.

I did actually like the story but found the book far too long. The extent of bedroom scenes meant I was scan reading through parts of the story.

Okay, so I went into this thinking, “Cool, dragon shifter romance, probably some heat, a little danger, maybe a cute baby.” I was not prepared to fall headfirst into a four-book rollercoaster of swoony chaos, fiery tension, and one broody dragon-daddy who made my knees weak and my heart ache.

Let’s talk about Evan—my new favorite hot mess of a dragon. He’s all danger and dominance with a past that makes him guarded, cocky, and a little reckless (especially when it comes to running his smokin’ hot nightclub). But beneath that alpha swagger? Yeah. There’s a heart in there—one he doesn’t even know how to use until a baby shows up on his literal doorstep and I get thrown into the mix as the nanny.

I loved Mariah. She’s not just a by-the-book good girl—she’s someone who feels deeply, who sees through Evan’s walls, and who stands up for herself even when everything inside her is screaming to give in. Their chemistry? It’s instant. But what really got me was the emotional slow burn underneath all the delicious tension. Watching them both try to navigate this baby, their explosive connection, and a world of danger? Ugh. Catnip.

And let’s not forget: DRAGON. SHIFTING. SCENES. Yeah, I said it. Evan’s protective instincts are next-level, and when that dragon side comes out? Good luck not melting.

This book gave me everything—found family, reluctant parent vibes, boss/nanny forbidden heat, and a redemption arc that hit me right in the feels. It’s spicy, it’s sweet, and it somehow manages to balance all that fire with a whole lot of heart.

By the end, I was rooting for them like crazy, swooning at Evan's transformation, and absolutely loving how Mariah held her own from start to finish. If you’re craving a dragon romance with teeth, tenderness, and a touch of danger? Taming the Dragon’s Heart is your next addiction. Trust me—I didn’t want to come up for air.

I really enjoyed Taming the Dragon’s Heart. As someone who loves slow-burning shifter romances with emotional layers, I appreciated how Roxie Ray brings the characters and their day-to-day world to life. The bond between the leads felt genuine, and I liked how their relationship prioritized both their connection and the well-being of their child. It made the emotional moments land in a meaningful way.

That said, I do think the series could’ve been tightened up. By the third book, things started to feel a bit repetitive—especially with the romantic scenes. The spice is solid (I’d call it a 3.5), but some scenes began to blur together because they followed a very similar rhythm and phrasing. While I enjoyed the chemistry, I found myself wishing for more plot movement and less repetition.

What kept me reading was the emotional growth and the way the story explored transformation, trust, and the weight of responsibility. The worldbuilding has some interesting rules that shape the characters’ decisions, and I appreciated how those shifted over time, especially as the story explored what it means to change—by choice or otherwise.

All in all, it’s a tender, immersive read with a lot of heart. It didn’t always need four books to get there, but I’m still glad I stuck with it.

Three stars is very generous (should be 2.5) because the storyline dragged in every single book and took a completely implausible turn. Too many sex scenes also made a slow-moving plot nearly unbearably tedious, as if sex is used to distract the reader from the poor writing. I scrolled through probably a third of the last two books. I was also disappointed that there was almost no pack life, and very little shifting happens even during a rescue scene, which makes being a shifter seem irrelevant.

I also noticed big contradictions. An important concern was Mariah having to accept that she would never have children with Evan because humans and shifters can't procreate. This was when the plot focused on an illegitimate baby being the tool Thomas (the antagonist) would use to accomplish his goals. The objective switched halfway through, and Thomas has activated a dormant gene in Mariah that turned her into a dragon shifter. That's, only possible because her great-great grandfather was a shifter. So, the whole "impossible to get pregnant" trope is nonsense? (The clan's reaction of incredulity is dumb because if Thomas could find out about the shifter-human child, then the whole shifter world should have at least considered it as a possibility, even if the offspring was a human. And we're supposed to believe that this miracle only happened in one bloodline?)

Thomas intends to sell the serum that turned Mariah into a shifter to wealthy human men who want to become predator shifters by using her blood to alter it so it will work on them. Almost every participant in the previous experiment died (and this serum augmented with Mariah's blood hasn't been tested), but we're supposed to believe wealthy men won't care about risks. Ridiculous!

Roxie Ray has become a very hit-or-miss writer. Each time I give her books a chance to show they're enjoyable, I am disappointed.

Unexpectedly finding an abandoned baby on your doorstep that you didn’t even know you had is the dilemma MMC dragon shifter Evan Guerrero finds himself in.
The co-owner of a SoHo club, The Dragon’s Den it was a New Year’s Eve one night stand that had made him a father, and DNA testing proved it.
Not ready for that kind of a responsibility and with a constant battle to keep his dragon in check the sleepless nights with baby Sofia are starting to take a toll.
When one of his employees recommends her friend MFC Mariah, a nanny looking for a new job Evan jumps at the chance.
Their first meeting proves to Evan that its going to be difficult keeping things professional with Mariah even with his best friend and business partner Masons warning, no fooling around with the new nanny after she is hired. They both begin walking a very fine line because there is no denying the attraction they both feel.
This is a nicely written series that is now combined into one solid good edition and unfolds with passion, emotion, intrigue, suspense, drama, tragedy, danger, surprise revelations, and family dynamics, that is a thrilling, entertaining, hard to put down read I enjoyed!

Taming the Dragon’s Heart ( Dragon Rebels series) includes the following books previously released individually:
Dragon daddy’s nanny part 1
Falling for the dragon daddy part 2
Claimed by the dragon daddy part 3
Dragon daddy protector part 4.

While I liked the idea behind the story, as overdone as it is, I had the same problems I've had with every other Roxie Ray book I've read through Booksprout. Namely, that the FMC and MMC are pretty one-dimensional, the primary "conflict" keeping them from getting together is the MCs themselves using nonsense excuses or the old miscommunication trope. The biggest issue I have, and the one that takes me out of the story every time is the inconsistency, or blatant contradictions, in details. All these books have felt like they would have really benefitted from being run by an editor, and maybe the author would benefit from keeping more detailed notes about when things happen, (especially what days of the week) where characters are, and what they're doing, because there's only so many times a person can stand up without sitting back down first, or walk down the same flight of stairs in a couple of paragraphs. I really hate being critical of stuff like this, but when the discrepancies happen within paragraphs of each other, on the same page, it just makes me think the author is either lazy, doesn't really care, isn't paying attention, or is using AI. And I really hope it's not that last option. Whatever it is, I'm about at the end of my patience with this author, and I wish I knew which one of the people sharing this pseudonym it was, so I could just start avoiding all the books under the name that they wrote.

I instantly fell in love with Evan and Mariah. This book contains all four parts of their story and I was so invested. I liked how shifters were apart of the human world but also separate. Evan really struggled with his dragon and the partial shifts cracked me up at times. The character growth in Evan is unmatched. He goes from the playboy living the high life who lets no one in to a doting father and partner. I swooned every time he learned from his mistakes and opened his heart to Mariah. I really felt for his struggles at being a new dad and how he turned to Mason for advice whenever he was struggling. He not only grew in his relationship but also as a father and alpha. The chemistry between Mariah and Evan was amazing. Even as their bond grew and they evolved in their relationship, it was still so much passion and fire. They had their struggles but they learned from them. They have some great teasing and banter. I loved watching their little family grow especially for Mariah. She always felt unwanted and only had her bestie for so long. Her caution felt real as their circle grew and their family expanded. I really enjoyed the variety of family dynamics explored in this story- from illegitimate sons and heirs, to secret affairs, conversations around being able to have kids, and betrayal, this book has it all. I cheered for Evan and Mariah as they found their happy ending.

Taming the Dragon’s Heart by Roxie Ray is a collection of four books together into one. This is nice because there are no cliff hangers and there is a HEA. Taming The Dragon’s Heart is the love story of dragon shifter Evan and human Mariah.
This is an enjoyable read because there is so much character development for Evan in the length of this novel. He starts out as a rich playboy who finds a baby at his doorstep to a protective alpha in love with one woman. When he initially hires Mariah as his nanny, he has no idea he will fall head over heels in love with her.
Taming the Dragon’s Heart has a few story lines that weave together to form an interesting novel that is not just a paranormal romance but also action, and suspense, with a good dose of drama.
I have read several of Roxie Ray’s shifter novels, and this one was unique from the others I have read. I enjoyed it and thought it was well written with an interesting story and a good amount of heat.
I received and an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

First off, this is a very, very long book and that is honestly the reason I am giving it 4 starts instead of 5. I think this book could have gotten rid of 100 pages of filler very easily and been a fantastic book. Evan and Mariah did not start off a match made in heaven that is for sure. But Evan needed Mariah as a nanny for his newly found baby girl. Evan is a dragon shifter and was not known for keeping it in his pants until the day he came home and found a baby on his doorstep. He is need of a nanny and Mariah has just ended her previous placement was was looking for a job. Evan is immediately attracted to Mariah but knows he can not jeopardize his boss/e,employee relationship. Over time the two come to appreciate each other as people and possible partners. I did enjoy the story over all and it did keep me entertained.

5/5 Spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

I found out after the fact that this was originally published as a series of shorts, I'm really glad they're combined together because itakes for a decent sized novel and feels pretty organically written with them all put together as a single novel. This is my second Roxie Ray book and I'm loving it. Her characters feel organic, they don't feel forced I could see myself acting and responding like the FMC would and the build of Mariah and Evan's dynamic is also great. Would definitely recommend this book and the author in general, I'm super excited to read the next book I have from her!.

Dnf at 52% - I love Ross I hate Ross I love Ross I hate Ross

I can't deal with the melodramatic soap opera pancake attitude. Annalise is the only reasonable character and she's barely on page. The MMC is essentially a dirtbag for the first 30% of the story. The FMC is a wuss who flip flops between love and despair but never grows a backbone strong enough to actually tell MMC to get bent. The alpha storyline is inconsistent and bizarre at best. There's very little world building to explain the societal norms until suddenly the author needs to force plot direction, and when that happens it feels forced. It doesn't feel logical at all.

I will adjust my previous statement about Annalise - Jaxon is also a reasonable character from what little I've seen so far.

4.25 ⭐️. I liked it and enjoyed it. Didn’t love it where I couldn’t put it down. Too long and could have been cut down more. Just skimmed over the 🌶️ parts after a while because it was same same. I would skim over Evan and his doubts after a while and then Mariah and hers. I understand how they ended up being who they were and not trusting. I just didn’t need to read about it every other chapter.
There were dark scenes and there were sad 😭😢 ones.
I didn’t understand Jax because it seemed like he was supposed to be more with his fascination with Mariah and then he would disappear then just show up again and be a hero. It was like he was going to be a bad guy then it changed to a good guy. 🤷‍♀️
I loved the characters in the clan and how they all meshed. The forgiveness. ❤️ The love 💕

Evan has an unexpected package delivered to him that changes his life when a baby is left on his doorstep. It is proven that the baby is indeed his and now he needs someone to watch her. When his partner suggests Mariah things changes again for him because he knows there is no way that he can keep things professional with her. Will these two succumb to their inner feelings and getting a chance to find happiness together. This story had me cheering for Mariah and Evan. It is a great shifter story that is descriptive, well written along with characters that I enjoyed reading and connecting with.

This was such a good series. This book contains all 4 books to Her Dragon Daddy Boss. Follow along with Evan, an alpha dragon shifter, confirmed playboy, club owner and new single Dad and Mariah, the young human nanny who's written off love, determined to never be dependent on a man. Each book picks up right where the previous book left off, so you don't have to worry about cliffhangers. Just turn the page and jump right into the next book. Evan's and Mariah's journey is not easy as they face obstacles within each book. The complete story has a nice flow and a good pace that will keep you moving along from one book to the next.

As always Roxie has created a fantastic world peopled by interesting individuals. This boxset follows the growing romance between Mariah and Evan and their fight against a psychotic madman.

Mariah is a hardworking, sunshine individual completely in contrast to Evan's grumpy, playboy persona. However as they get to know each other, whilst they care for Sofia, they find their attraction growing. Just as things are settling an evil from the past appears.

An all consuming roller-coaster of a read and the story is all in one boxset. A thoroughly enjoyable series.

Taming the Dragon's Heart by Roxie Ray is a paranormal, dragon shifter, work-place collection of Mariah and Evan’s journey. This is a well-written series (Dragon Rebels) that had me engaged from page one. This story drew this reader in and kept me there with its compelling characters, layers of intrigue, and wonderful world building. I loved the blend of close-knit friendships, paranormal, fantasy, intrigue, romance, and spice. Mariah and Evan traveled through danger, emotions, past experiences, and new adventures to find their happy ever after. Their story is a fantastic read which I recommend.

A dragon shifter who has no desire to settle down or have a family - Evan is enjoying life. But one night changes everything - when months later Evan finds a baby on his doorstep and is suddenly elevated to the status of dad.

Taken off guard Evan quickly discovers that being a dad means long sleepless nights, and he finds he's not able to keep up. Then he finds a nanny - and she is the next big change in his life.

An unlikely love story that unfolds in the between the pages of every day life.

I found both the female lead and male lead characters in this series to be strong in mind and spirit. The choices they made were pretty smart. I love how the male lead chose to become a family man over being a playboy. It was great to see how tender and devoted the main characters were with each other throughout the series. An HEA of the sweetest kind. You’ll have to check it out to learn just how sweet it is.

Oh how this series had me from the first book. Roxie Ray did a fantastic job with this. Evan a dragon shifter has a one stand then finds a baby girl on his door step lol now in a panic of what to do he finds help from his business partner and best friend Mason who seeks out a nanny Mariah. The attraction is like a live wire , but Evan will not mix business with pleasure. But it’s inevitable. So much passion , love , danger lurks around every corner. I loved this series so much.

I love Roxie Ray! And I am in love with all of her dragon shifter books. I read a lot. And I’ve read a lot of shifter books. But there were always the typical wolf shifter and nothing more. So I really enjoyed myself when I read a dragon shifter book worn by her. Ever since, I’ve been reading them all. And Omgosh was this one a thick book! There was so much going on. Twists, turns, action, chaos. I was just so engrossed. I absolutely loved this one! I’m looking forward to continuing with this author. So much fun.

Evan and Mariah are scorching hot together. Mariah finds herself being Evan’s nanny, after Evan finds himself a dad. After a baby girl is left on his door step.
Mariah doesn’t usually go for the bad boys, but this hot and sexy dragon shifter is hard to say no to.
This is one hot sizzling, full of passion, action and danger.

This is the story of what happens when Even learns he has a baby and Mariah the nanny hired to help him out. Queue the hots for each other and the typical nanny falling for the boss story but with a dragon shifter twists that brings oh so much more drama and intrigue to the mix. Had me laughing and groaning at times and wondering if they would ever get a break from it all. A fun series with good characters and lots of drama to keep things wild and interesting.

There is a whole lot going on in this book. This is about Evan and Mason, who own the Dragon's Den club together. Evan finds out he's a dad and gets Mariah to be his nanny. Things heat up between them even though they try to stay professional. This has a lot of action and heat. Shifter stories are so good especially about dragons.

Obviously not for me.

Slow to the point of tedium.
Predictable and slow.
Loads and loads of sex. Used as filler as far as I could tell.

And seriously…. I’m paraphrasing here but you get the idea.

I’ll protect you, no one will touch you….
Okay well they won’t next time.

Next time.

so so good

Loved this story, family, loyalty, and love

I didn’t dare reach for her yet, not sure my heart could take it if she pulled away. “It’s an apology, Mariah. I am so, so sorry for how I acted earlier, and I wanted to do something to show you how much I care. I know it doesn’t make up for what I did, but I want you to know I would never hurt you. I can’t say how sorry I truly am.

I really enjoyed this story. Mariah and Evan had many struggles to overcome - from a psycho alpha dragon to heartbreak at a loved ones death. The story was broken down to parts and it flowed well. It was a longer book that I am used to but enjoyed every bit of it. It's well worth reading.
